The 19 Best Restaurants In Milan - Milan - The Infatuation

"Marchesi 1824 is a legendary bakery with three beautiful locations: the original is near Castello Sforzesco, the second in the Montenapoleone fashion district, and the most recent one opened inside the Galleria. If you’re looking for a quick pause over a macchiato at the bar, head to the original—at the Galleria, there’s table service for all-day breakfasts or aperitivi. The panettone is a must (Milan is, after all, the birthplace of panettone). The classic version is available year-round by the slice, and there’s always a seasonal flavor like candied chestnut in the fall. Don’t be surprised if you see an overwhelming amount of Prada here—the brand purchased Marchesi almost ten years ago, and had a strong hand in their classy expansion." - elizabeth de filippo jones

Marchesi 1824 is an absolute gem in the heart of Milan, located inside the iconic Galleria. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a beautiful, elegant interior that perfectly blends classic charm with modern sophistication. We tried a variety of pastries – the lemon, raspberry or hazelnut pastry, the lemon meringue tart, and the chocolate puff pastry – and each one was absolutely delicious. Rich in flavor, fresh, and beautifully presented. The coffee was also excellent. I ordered a cappuccino with lactose-free milk, which was a great option to have. However, I had requested it extra hot, and it arrived just warm – the only small disappointment in an otherwise lovely experience. Still, I would absolutely recommend a visit if you’re nearby. It’s a wonderful spot to enjoy a refined Italian coffee and pastry experience in a stunning setting. ✨☕🍰

Totally a fun spot to visit while wandering around Milan, the pastries are to die for and the sweets are endless. We purchased 2 mini cream puffs, small crispy sweet puff of pastry filled with fresh whipping cream. The mixture of crisp and cream is perfect. My partner also ordered a tart with a glazed strawberry that he absolutely loved. Beautiful inside and just a fun spot to explore.

Google
A beautifully designed space with a luxurious green-themed interior that offers a calm, relaxing contrast to the lively energy of the galleria outside. It’s the perfect spot for a coffee break—we stopped in and also sampled their bakery and ice cream. Both were excellent, even if the prices lean toward the higher side, which is expected given the premium location & image. Service was top-notch: attentive and professional. The only things that could be improved are the indoor temperature (a bit warm) and the choice of music they played which didn’t quite match the serene atmosphere.

Google
A very chic and touristy spot right in the middle of the Galleria. Prices are much higher than at similar bakeries, and the portions are incredibly small. It’s worth visiting just to soak up the atmosphere, but not ideal for eating desserts—you barely get a taste with just one bite of each. We managed to find a table inside with a minimal wait on a Thursday afternoon but I am sure it is packed on the weekends.

Google
Went here for breakfast, but needed to wait, so came back for brunch and was so glad I did. The pastries are slightly pricy, but they are really fluffy and tasty, as well as visually appealing. The view is great and the interior is aesthetic. I definitely recommend this place and don’t be discouraged by the wait—it’s so worth it.

ESB NYC

Google
A lovely spot for breakfast in the center of the Galleria Vittorio Emmanuel, the room is beautifully decorated in soothing green colors, and the staff could not be more professional or accommodating. You can really tell that they want to make sure you have a wonderful experience. The pastries are top-notch and the coffee was good. If you are lucky enough to get one of the tables overlooking the crowds below in the galleria, you can have a wonderful time. Not cheap, but you are paying for the location and the quality of the food and the excellent service.

Google
A truly charming spot – amazing coffee, desserts, and atmosphere This place completely won me over. Both the coffee and desserts were outstanding, and the view and location are simply stunning. The interior design is beautiful and cozy, and the coffee is top-quality — a real, authentic Italian espresso experience. Definitely a must-try if you’re in the area. The only downside is that it can get crowded, and you might have to wait for a table. But it’s absolutely worth it.

A beautiful Milanese gem! Marchesi 1824 blends elegance with tradition. The pistachio pastry was absolutely divine — rich, delicate, and perfectly balanced. Paired with a smooth espresso in such a refined setting, it was a perfect breakfast stop on Fashion Street!

Yelp
What a gem of a find. While this place is expensive, it is worth every bite. The ambiance, the staff and the food were all delightful. It is a fun and posh environment that everyone should do at least once in the Galleria! Hope to go back for an afternoon tea.

Yelp
Pasticceria Marchesi is a high end pastry shop owned by Prada and this particular location in Milan is in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping center atop the Prada store. The interior exudes sophistication, luxury and refinement. I stopped by for breakfast to sample their offerings. Cappuccino (€5 = $5.50 USD) - The cappuccinos here are smooth with a strong coffee flavor. They taste amazing and are perfectly executed. Maritozzo (€7 = $7.75 USD) - This came highly recommended by my server and is a brioche bun with a cream filling, topped with pistachio and a chocolate. It was a unique pastry that I hadn't tried before and popular in Milan. Omelet & smoked salmon - (€18 = $20 USD) - Light and fluffy the omelet was good, and complemented the smoked salmon. Although like everything here, it was over priced. Overall, the restaurant is beautiful and expect to pay for it if you dine in. To my surprise, I found most of the locals having their cappuccinos and other baked goods at the large stand up coffee bar at the entrance, which had no seating. Prices there for the cappuccino are much more reasonable (€2.20 = $2.40 USD).

Yelp
Pasticceria Marchesi was named one of the best bakeries in the world. When Mink saw that in an article, she immediately told me to add them to our itinerary. We were going to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and Duomo di Milano so we decided to go to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II's location. It is diagonal from Prada in the center. You can also look for Louis Vuitton and Dior as it's across from those stores but upstairs. You could walk the stairs but they do have an elevator. When you enter, you'll be greeted by a hostess. It's best to have reservations if you want a table. We opted for the table tops and standing since we didn't have reservations. They tell you to walk around to see what you like then walk back to the cashier to order. There are mainly two pastry stations, a bar area and the seating area. After deciding on what we wanted, we went back to the cashier as instructed. He was extremely friendly and was very helpful in ordering. Once you pay and have your receipt, you go to the first pastry counter and the staff member there gets all your pastries. If you ordered a sandwich, they make it fresh from their kitchen and someone brings it out to you. Don't ask me how they know but they know which order goes to who. I was quite impressed. You bring the receipt to the bar area for your drinks. They do come around to collect plates and cups but you can also put the empty cups by the bar area when you're done. Everything was good and they are definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
You can walk up to the counter and order to go or eat at the table top or make reservations to dine in. We made reservations a day before to sit and have lunch, everyone was welcoming our servers helped us pick just what we wanted for lunch. The cafe was trendy and you could people watch from the window. The food was delicious, a perfect stop to relax in between shopping and site seeing.

Yelp
The was the first coffee shop recommended to us by our Italian photographer. It is located on the 2nd floor of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II mall, above one of the Prada stores. To enter, you need to take the stairs or elevator at the observatory entrance, next to Prada. This coffee shop overlooks the Galleria, which can be fun to people watch. They offer a quick, cheaper counter service where you stand at the standing tables, or you can have sit down service, which is a little more pricey. The cappuccinos here are amazing, I don't know if it's Italian cappuccinos or Marchesi that makes it so great! It contains more milk than an American cappuccino and tastes much smoother. The pastries are also very delicious. We've tried a whole grain plain croissant, regular plain croissant, chocolate croissant (Nutella filling), and a pistachio bun. The croissants have a slight lemon flavor to it which makes it unique but super tasty. We loved this place so much, we even came back the next day! Overall I highly recommend Marchesi, the drinks and pastries via counter service is affordable and great value.

Yelp
Pasticceria Marchesi is on the second floor (above Prada) of the world's first shopping mall, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. If you order from the front and stand at a table, the coffee items are much cheaper than if sitting and dining in! This is a really cool coffee shop and has a lot of pastries to try as well. Since it's located in an exclusive and luxurious mall with all high end shops, it has an elevated feel to it. +Croissant for 2,50€ - This croissant is not as flakey or buttery as I am used to, but it had a slight lemon flavor to it. It was the most unique croissant I have ever had... and I loved it. - 5/5 +Cappuccino for 2,20€ - I guess I have never had a quality cappuccino in my life because this was incredibly smooth. Highly recommended (before 11 am for breakfast)! Apparently, Italians will look down on you if you order a cappuccino any later than this. - 5/5 I would highly recommend checking out Pasticceria Marchesi!

Yelp
It was such a cute little place that sits over Prada with a nice view of the Galleria! The service was very nice and the food was delicious and fresh. The Chocolate/Raspberry cake was OUT OF THIS WORLD! Was a bit over priced but it's a nice experience overall, expect a bit of a wait (30-45 min) if you don't have a reservation.

Yelp
We stopped by this beautiful place to cool down, grab a drink and a snack and we are so glad we did. This place was lovely! It's located right inside the galleria, it was beautiful inside and out. Staff was very friendly and kind, even though they deal with a million tourists a day, they treated everyone with respect. There were so many lovely treats we would have loved to try but with the heat outside, we didn't have much of an appetite. I will definitely be returning if I ever come back to Milan again.

Yelp
Come when the line is not too long, have a nice pastry and a coffee and then continue shopping:) this place is very friendly and beautiful and is still cheaper than some bs American coffee chain. It's one of my favourites because of the quality of their pastries and the delicious coffee. However, it's in Prada and could easily be snobby, it's not at all. Just very sweet people. Only warning: it is full of tourists so go after lunch or for a quick breakfast.
google avatar

Elissa D.

Yelp
Cute cafe to visit for a shopping break. A bit overpriced but that is to be expected for such a highly trafficked area. Cappuccino was delicious and would order again.
google avatar

Nadia A.

Yelp
The place is very crowded and quite upscale. The best way is to order and eat while standing. The cappuccino is very good and delicious sweet.

Martin Q.

Yelp
The staff was very attentive, assisted in making choices and recommendations. The breakfast was delicious and the pastries... The pastries are insane, so good. And the Galleria is a beautiful place to visit and have breakfast.

Yelp
I had a bad experience here. First, yes what we ordered was good. 2, they have a convoluted ordering system which is manageable but my problem was during paying. The lady after she gave us our change informed us that the Euro bills we were using to pay with, she could not accept. Out of curiosity I asked the reason but she would not answer. So I handed her another bill, which she also refused. The bills were not ripped, torn, soiled or otherwise indistinguishable from any other bills, yet she would not take a 10 or a 5 euro note. So.. after we handed her these bills and after getting change back for the amount we gave her, she then says she won't take them. So we pay with a 20 and get change back. It was not a good experience and it felt like she was running some kind of scam. The very next place we went to we inquired about the bills and the staff didn't understand either why she wouldn't take them. I feel like we overpaid for what we got. Like i said, the coffee and pastry were nice but this experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I would not return when so many other local shops can produce the same quality but better, less convoluted service.

Yelp
You can't go wrong with Marchesi, an institution in Milan. Every single pastry I tried over the years was worth it. Today I tried a pear chocolate tart, which was fantastic and a single serving sbrisolona, a crumbly almondy cake, exactly as I like it, crunchy and not sandy, as many other ones I tried. Absolute perfection. Marocchino was delicious too, served in a normal espresso cup, rather than the classic glass, but it was probably the best marocchino I had up until now. The only wrinkle in my opinion is the cashier/order organization, if you don't sit at a table. You have to get your receipt first and then order, but the pastry cases are very far away, very disorganized and not friendly. Typical mess at the espresso counter, no line, you have to elbow your way and shout your order. Despite that it's a 5*, quality is top. Highly recommended!

Peter D.

Yelp
Beautiful decor, interesting, authentic , quality food at moderate price, plus very helpful and pleasant staff. The evening we were there, they also had live music in the background. A great choice for dinner in Milan.
google avatar

Sar P.

Yelp
This has been my favorite pastry shop for years (prior to prada purchasing) and they have delicious baked good - coffee and the staff is friendly -
google avatar

S L.

Yelp
So confusing and staff rude. You have to order right when you walk in and then show ticket to bakery staff. We didn't understand at first and they acted like we were dumb. There were no tables to sit at but by the window there appears to be a bench like thing connected to it. Turns out you're not allowed to sit there and a worker told me and another woman to get up. And after all of this the pastries weren't anything special. Save your time and money and go somewhere else!!
google avatar

Rubeena J.

Yelp
A beautiful venue overlooking the galleria. Great place for tea time. The service makes it all the better. They noticed I was pregnant and instead of making me wait, they sat me down right away. Definitely a place worthy of a visit.
google avatar

Meeka A.

Yelp
Very classy establishment with amazing customer service. I think it's a must see when visiting Milan. Food options were okay. Some of the desserts weren't as exciting as I expected. Wish there were more hot options. But overall loved it and you can take some pretty nice photos here
google avatar

Crystal R.

Yelp
Very good service, and they do speak English here. Had a small wait to get in, but once we were in we were promptly seated. You can browse the options in the glass cases or choose from their menu, though the menu has no pictures. The chocolate mousse cake I had was was quite nice, very fluffy and rich flavor. I also had the mocha coffee, which as an American is very bitter and tastes nothing like regular mochas, so be aware. Overall great service and my husband enjoyed his coffee. The bathrooms are unmarked in the very back, and also be aware that they are both men and women in the same room, just the toilet itself is marked differently. One stall for each gender. They share sinks. Would come again to try more options.
google avatar

Armin A.

Yelp
Oh this place is awesome!! We were by here walking around and I saw the sign and new I was going for some tasty sweet. So we went upstairs to get seated. FYI the price on the menu downstairs is different than the price at the table. To go vs. seated. I would certainly go back again. We tried many different sweets and they were all delicious so you can't go wrong with anything. Just do it!!

Antonio F.

Yelp
Excellent food, pastries and outstanding service. Plan to visit again but at the Gslleria mall.

Yelp
Beautiful, classy, fancy pastries located inside the Milano Gall. 2nd floor above Prada. Make reservation if you want a sit down or may have a standing table.
google avatar

Andy P.

Yelp
While shopping at Prada, the lady asked if I had my coffee yet. I inquired and she recommended the caffe upstairs. We upstairs without reservations but they sat promptly which was nice. Think it's because I bought something downstairs and came up their private elevator. Upon walking in, you will be greeted with a beautiful display of bite-sized desserts and sweets. The host was prompt on getting our table. The seating was beautiful with the lit background as seen from my post. We ordered from their simple menu and the waiter added a table cloth to our table and redecorated to a formal dining setting. If you look around, you will see their walls decorated with their packaged products under an elegant case and display. It was an amazing environment. Quite romantic too. One thing I love about their food here is that it's not heavy. My Ham Carpaccio and the Smoke Salmon tasted amazing. Vinegar and Oil combo went well with the bread. With a little bit of cracked pepper and salt, our dining experience was perfect. The mini Cremè Puff had so much character. Loved it. I would recommend this place for anyone who wants to have a simple yet elegant meal with another.

Yelp
It is the best latte macchiato I had in Italy with rum baba and tiramisu I will go there everyday during my stay in Milano
google avatar

Jeffrey C.

Yelp
This is truly the way to live! Just another reason why Milan is one of the best food cities in the world, my personal opinion. Truly a haven of sophistication and refinement, even with the occasional family of obnoxious tourists! So when in need of a little caloric pampering after shopping, make the effort and treat yourself, even if just for a coffee. Not sure how anyone could have such restraint, however this is a must! So civilized and well deserved.
google avatar

Joanne T.

Yelp
It's in the middle of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele shopping mall next to the duomo cathedral in Milan. The shaking cappuccino and latte macchiato with the rum baba is so good. The food we ordered including salmon salad, ravioli, and spaghetti are excellent.
google avatar

Mae F.

Yelp
Beautiful cafe inside the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping mall! My husband and I visited this place during our short stay in Milan. I loved the fun set up of the place (luxurious decor that reminds me a bit of Laduree) and the numerous choices for snacks, desserts and drinks. They had a few kinds of gelato, different kinds of croissants, tarts, pastries and bite sized chocolate treats. We got a croissant with creamy custard, latte and espresso - all were delicious and our bill was under 6 euros for it all! The space is divided up into an area for people that want to sit down and dine in (prices were jacked up a few Euros for each item) and another area with stand up tables for people on the go. The staff were nice despite a bit of a language barrier and we never felt rushed when we tried to figure out what to get at this place. Highly recommend for photo ops and the cuteness of this place!
google avatar

Helen Y.

Yelp
Disappointing that one of the staff members told us that "it was not possible" for our daughter to sleep on the sofa seat even though our waiter was kind enough to seat us there so she could lay down. As a result, we had to wake her up. The table next to us didn't seem to mind, no other patrons seemed to complain so not sure what is the problem. Rude man! He needs to learn better customer service and maybe from his own staff members!

BD M.

Yelp
Oh. My. Goodness. Our relatives in Milan took us here for coffee & pastry after lunch and we LOVED it! Never knew this pasticceria was tucked away in Milan - so we climbed the stairs, not expecting much. We walked into something that felt like it was out of a storybook! A colorful and beautiful cafe, overlooking a square. Coffee delicious, and they brought out a lovely three-tiered cake stand of assorted sweets with each one more delicious than the previous one! Absolutely must visit if you are in Milan.

Niki L.

Yelp
Sublime in every possible way. The pastry, the coffee, the grace of the service. Despite the long queues it was worth it

Sam M.

Yelp
Excellent drinks, and exceptional desserts. I'll be back tomorrow. Try the pistachio cake or the strawberry cake.
google avatar

Allen H.

Yelp
Excellent food and pastries. It's on the pricey side but well worth the stop. It's located upstairs above Prada. There are two Prada stores across from each other. It's in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II mall. The service is exceptional. Extremely polite and fast.
google avatar

Dilys S.

Yelp
We were constrained by time so we got it's gelato from the gelato stand right at the entry way to the pasticceria and after our visit to the Prada foundation observation deck. The pistachio was extremely nutty - rich and velvety and delicious. The creamy one is more like an orange soda with light creaminess and fragrant refreshing citrus taste. It was really good! Kind of like the filling they use in the sfogliatella (lobster tail pastry)
google avatar

Mari S.

Yelp
This place beats every Parisian bakery I have ever been to, forget Pauls, forget Laduree and forget Harrods in London. I absolutely loved the treat tower, my coffee was perfection, the dessert, just everything! Was seated by the window overlooking the shops and the service I mean overall 5 stars all the way! The bathrooms are gorgeous too.
google avatar

Roshni P.

Yelp
Cute quick coffee and pastry shop. A nice place to stop for a quick cappuccino before shopping. There is a standing area (cheaper) or seating if you prefer.
google avatar

Laura E.

Yelp
Pasticceria Marchesi has various locations in Milan but this is probably the most beautiful one location wise. Located right above the Prada store on Galleria Vittorio Emanuele (it was actually bought by Prada) you have a wonderful view onto the galleria from the cafe. The pasticceria has a bar where you can drink your coffee or eat your cornetto (those are the prices that you can find at the door when you enter the building) but you can also have a seat in one of the plush green chairs (higher prices here). The interior is just marvelous! Super luxurious, waiters wear sleek uniforms and everything is just super beautiful. We ordered cappuccino, soy cappuccino and a slice of fruit cake. Coffee was great, cakes was delicious and almost too pretty to eat. Service is attentive and just the way you would expect it for an Café like that. For two coffees and the cake we paid 25€, so definitely not cheap (cake alone was 10€) but you do definitely pay for the ambiance as well. If you feel like treating yourself and taking a break from the hustle of Milan City Centre then this is the place to go! I am coming back!
google avatar

Christine D.

Yelp
Wander into Prada, find a staircase and somehow you're teleported into one of the coolest cafes in Milan. The wall and furniture finishes were as impressive and delicate as the menu of light eats and sweet treats. The cappuccinos were delightful and I can only say that wandering can take you to the best places.

Frank L.

Yelp
The location is unbelievable, with a fantastic view over the gallery below, but it's the food and the coffee that brings me back there every time. Marchesi is open every day of the year. The staff is wonderful: they remember my order even if I stayed away from Milan for a few months! To me, this is where I find the best espresso in town. Granted, it's not the cheapest place, but if you order "al banco" (at the counter), prices are very reasonable. At breakfast I enjoy their "brioches" or a "girella", at lunch their small but tasty and very fresh sandwiches, in the afternoon one of their delicious pastries. And dinner? Haven't you read what I just wrote? You think I'm still hungry?
google avatar

Hailey M.

Yelp
This place is beautiful! Definitely a tumblr/Instagram/Pinterest photo spot. The food& beverages are not completely overpriced either. Espresso is 5€, my smoothie was 11€, I know it is more expensive but my smoothie and my sister's cappuccino, and mom's ginseng was really really good. The pricing includes the atmosphere, but it is so worth it. They offer soy and almond milk which I haven't seen often. They have a great assortment of candies pastries and food. I wish I lived near here I would come back again and again.
