Marcus Samuelsson’s spot for updated comfort fare in a relaxed setting that has a bar.
"At the Marcus B & P in Newark, we pay $20 per hour. That’s almost double New Jersey’s minimum wage of $11 per hour, because we know essential workers deserve higher pay while putting their health on the line, and coming as close we can to paying people their worth is part of how we climb back from this crisis — and also begin to address the issues of economic justice and fair pay, which go to the heart of the sweeping systems that the ongoing protests aim to address." - Marcus Samuelsson
"At Marcus Samuelsson’s downtown Newark restaurant Marcus B & P, he’s worked wonders with mac and cheese, locating his version somewhere between Roman cacio e pepe and the traditional soul food rendition. It’s gooey and salty, sharpened with cracked black peppercorns and topped with extra shaved pecorino and bread crumbs." - Robert Sietsema
"Marcus Samuelsson’s Marcus B & P has been open a little over a year northwest of downtown Newark, and has established quite a following. It’s not a bad walk (or a cheap cab ride) from the PATH station to the comfortable restaurant that seems decades older than its actual age. The giant fried chicken platter is a tour de force, and even the cornbread, with its giant schmear of butter on the side, is praiseworthy. But the chef doesn’t stick to soul food. The dorowat rigatoni adapts the Ethiopian national dish, while a jerk cauliflower, hemmed in with lentils, provides a new take on a Jamaican dish." - Eater Staff
"Marcus B&P is another restaurant by Marcus Samuelsson located in downtown Newark, which is also undergoing revitalization." - Olee Fowler
