"This chic, contemporary-style lounge bar-cum-restaurant near the Grand Harbour boasts fine views: on one side, you have the bay with its small harbour, and on the other, the old town of Valletta. Even if the weather isn't favourable and you need to dine indoors, the glass walls offer a lovely view. The menu features an intriguing marriage of Asian specialities and Mediterranean dishes, and enthusiasts of Japanese cuisine will find the most famous offerings of sashimi, nigiri, and sushi rolls. Perfect for a relaxing meal, with an extensive outdoor space that adds to its appeal." - Michelin Inspector

New Restaurants added to The MICHELIN Guide Malta 2022

"This cool, contemporary, glass-fronted restaurant enjoys a special location at the edge of Kalkara Marina, where its tiered terrace boasts breathtaking views out over the historic Grand Harbour. If preferred, guests can dine in the vaulted interior, overlooking the open kitchen. The seasonal menu mixes Mediterranean food with Asian influences in a style they call ‘Mediterrasian’, so expect everything from sushi and seafood to pork belly or pasta. Most of the great quality ingredients are sourced locally and the restaurant features a hydroponics wall where they grow their own herbs and vegetables. Start with a cocktail before sharing a few small plates; then move on to dishes like honey-glazed duck breast, red snapper saltimbocca or sea bass with champagne, coconut & yuzu sauce. Portions are generous and plates are colourful and vibrant, with an abundance of beautiful flavours. It’s a fun, lively place which attracts all ages, and the friendly, attentive team are only too happy to help." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

It was an amazing Birthday Celebration Dinner. Sushi is delicious and we tried Asian Starters which were simply amazing as well. Benedetta was our table host who made sure to make our experience one to remember. She took care of us, always with a smile, impeccable communication and service was excellent. All the other staff were super friendly as well and the place is simply beautiful & relaxing. Thank you! We will surely be returning again 🥰 Top Notch!

Fantastic restaurant in the three cities. Beautiful location, amazing food and excellent service. We have been many times while living in Malta. Our last meal living here we chose Marea and our server Jason made it extra special with a custom aperitif and had a special song played for us! It was such a special experience. Thank you Jason and Marea for a great last meal in Malta ❤️

We had an amazing dinner at Marea! The service was outstanding, and I want to give a special shout-out to Benedetta, who made our evening truly memorable. She was incredibly kind, attentive, and gave us great recommendations — we followed them all, and every dish was spot on. The sushi was fresh and delicious, the salad was full of flavor, and we really enjoyed the white wine and a non-alcoholic piña colada. Everything was perfectly balanced. We finished with some delicious desserts that were the cherry on top of a perfect meal. Benedetta’s exceptional service truly made the experience even better. Thank you for such a lovely evening — we’ll definitely be back!

We had dinner at Marea and while it wasn’t exactly what we expected, it was still a memorable experience. We chose to sit inside, though the outdoor area looked much more inviting.. next time we’d definitely go for that. The indoor atmosphere felt a bit bright and busy, almost like a canteen and it was quite loud. The service was a little distant and we did feel a bit overlooked at times. That said, the sushi was absolutely amazing. Fresh, beautifully prepared, and truly delicious. Because of that, we’d happily try Marea again, maybe just through their delivery service or by sitting outside to enjoy it in a more relaxed setting.

Great service and atmosphere, staff are very helpful. Just a bit disappointed from some lackings on the menu, but overall the food is really good. Also, flavour panacotta from the dessert menu doesn’t have a vanilla flavour

Definately exceeded expectations! Service and food were both great. The atmosphere was lovely. Definately recommend you book a table outside. We will be back.

Honestly, the absolute worst restaurant I have ever been to in my life. It may not be the worst in Malta, but I usually only visit good quality restaurants. Firstly, let’s start with the best element - service. The staff are generally pleasant and friendly, however, we didn’t really get much assistance from them. We were a big group of 10, so it was quite a challenge to coordinate orders, but the staff didn’t try to help us with recommendations or top our wines up. The ambience - the restaurant had a very unpleasant smell of raw fish/seafood - almost like a fish market, which is very off-putting for dinner. Because of the lighting and the glass used, we really couldn’t see the view of outside which was of Sant Angelo. Now, the food. The absolute worst element of Marea and honestly deserved a negative 5 stars. I’m not sure if we were there on a bad day, or the other reviews were from people who never ate real sushi in their lives, but every single item was absolutely awful. The rice used in the rolls were severely undercooked - the rice was RAW in the middle and there was crunch with every grain, not something you want in sushi. The fillings & toppings on the rolls were… totally forgettable - bland, bland, mushy, bland, and bland. The Spicy Tuna with rice crisp was extremely oily (since the rice was undercooked and not soft enough to properly compress - probably not that the cooks even knew how to anyways given the standards of the kitchen) and the topping was, you guessed it, BLAAAAAND. If you want better sushi Lidl probably would be the next best option. The fried noodles was supposed to have roast pork but there were none, and again bland and oily. See the theme? Also, they only serve one brand of water - San Benedetto, arguably the most disgusting tasting water. When it came to the tea selection, no mint/peppermint, and every selection was caffeinated and dehydrating, except for an awful fruit tea. It truly bewilders me how a restaurant can be this damn awful, but it truly is the worst meal I’ve ever had in a restaurant. If you have standards, stay far, far, far away from this place.

Fusion restaurant. The pork belly baos are really good and so were the seared scallops. As main we got the beef filet, the fish and the linguine pasta dishes. Flavours and presentation were top tier. We sat outside, facing the harbour at sunset. Perfect. Book in advance as the outdoor tables may get taken quickly in the summer. Great staff and service. Good selection of wines too. Including local wines from the island. Desserts were also pretty unique in flavours and presentation.
