Marechiaro

"This smart, elegant restaurant, which has a particularly romantic ambience in the evening, has been serving top-quality fish in Bolzano for over 20 years. Prepared in traditional Italian style, the dishes here focus on the flavour and quality of the fish and seafood on offer, most of which comes from the Mediterranean. The two friendly brothers who run the restaurant are originally from Naples, which explains the specialities from Campania and the excellent pizza which also features on the menu. A simpler selection of dishes is available at lunchtime." - Michelin Inspector

The food was great but the service was really below the expectations for such a restaurant which is Michelin Stars rated. We really had to wait for a long time to place the order, for our food and as well for the bill. They did not even manage to serve all the dishes at the same time. One of us had a primi piatti and two of us had a pizza. Normally you serve the primi piatti first if you have more than one course..but they knew from the beginning that we only have one coruse and even then they did not manage to bring the food together. Also they were not able to bring the dessert together with the coffee, which should be the standard in such a class restaurant! Really disappointing this evening!

Comically terrible dinner at Marechiaro. Easily the worst gambero rosso I’ve ever had. I cannot recommend this restaurant, especially after being charged for an accidental wine glass breaking. Nor have I heard in my life charging a customer for breaking a wine glass.

I dined alone and the service was quick and the waiter let me taste the wines before choosing as I was wanting a local wine and was not familiar with the wines of the area. As I don't speak Italian the waiter made an effort to speak in English which was great. My prawns were fresh and could have only been improved with a sauce but lemon and olive oil were on offer and it all tasted great.

The atmosphere is calming and beautiful, the staff is attentive, and they all do an amazing job. I loved all of my visits! The pasta, the fish, and, of course, the pizza are delicious! And the wine list is amazing! It's had to find a better one in Bolzano. I can highly recommend a visit.

I do not recommend Marechiaro. The Gambero Rossi did not meet expectations. It was not good. One of our stemware broke, not our fault, and they charged us 45 euro, we asked to have the charge removed but they charged the card for the full amount anyway. The check came and it was impossible to decipher because the charges didn’t match what we ordered, nor some of the prices on the menu, and the server was of no help. For €130pp, it was a very unpleasant experience. Amazing oysters and good pasta. The pizza oven was not operating during our visit.

Known for their seafood, but some of the best pizza in the world

I recently had a rather unusual experience at Marechiaro in Bolzano. The atmosphere was quite tense, as the manager could be heard loudly criticizing the pizza maker, which made for an uncomfortable dining experience. Halfway through our meal, we noticed several staff members leaving, though we were unsure of the reason. At one point, the manager served our plates, but rather than placing them carefully, he simply dropped them on the table without any effort to arrange them properly for us. The squid was excellent, and the pizza dough was good, but the flavors were not impressive. Unfortunately, the sea bass was overcooked and disappointing. Overall, the restaurant felt overpriced for the quality of the food and the dining experience

During our stay in Bolzano, we tried several restaurants that were praised as first-class in various gastronomy guides. Of all of them, the Marechiaro restaurant impressed us the most. We were impressed by the outstanding fish dishes, the carefully compiled wine list at fair prices and, above all, the attentive and professional service. The atmospheric ambience rounded off our culinary experience perfectly. Unfortunately, we didn't try the pizza dishes, but what we saw on the neighboring tables looked very good; we'll make up for that on our visit. For us, the Marechiaro restaurant is one of the best in the city and the surrounding area, and we would recommend it without reservation to anyone visiting Bolzano.

Yelp
Went to this restaurant tonight. The staff doesn't speak any English and there is no menu in English. We made a big mistake and set down anyway. We ordered pizza which was ok and came straight away. All other dishes went from bed to wrest. The lack of communication led the a very disappointing dinner. Service was terrible and the plates came out without any order or separation between the courses. In a nutshell, don't come in if you don't speak Italian or German. Otherwise expect to eat whatever comes out from the kitchen with no ability to communicate to the staff. The owner is only interested in being paid and is not open to any discussion. The one star is only for the pizza
