It was my second visit at Margaux and JW Marriott. Restaurant is modern well designed. Bar area is my favorite. Just elegant, comfortable, nice ambiance. Tasty cocktail also no alcohol good selection 🍷👌 Service polite and nice. Food is OK / good. Beautifully served attention to the details, I really appreciate. I my opinion and other guests after eating 6 meals, is lacking flavor, flat taste. Breakfast buffet is not great too. For this price I expect would expect more. My opinion is base on comparison to Hilton and other Marriott’s. Bar is Great 🔥👌

Service and food were both top notch. Little pricey but perfect for a night out celebrating. Enjoyed the views of the river while dining

So fancy and so professional. Despite wearing very casual clothing we were treated with care and the food was amazing. The crème brûlée!!

Been coming here for years and have always had a fantastic experience. Today we had brunch for my father’s birthday and the service was fantastic. Food is always excellent as well. Jason, the GM, went above and beyond to accommodate our party and made us feel at home. If you do the buffet they have an absolutely charming chef his name is Elvis. His chef skills are amazing you can tell he has a true passion for the culinary arts. Wish I could leave 10 stars. Cheers and happy new year!

It was our first time in Grand Rapids, we were there for the auto show. Decided to give Margaux a try and boy are glad we did. I cannot say enough about this place, the atmosphere was beautiful, the food was EXCELLENT! Even better was the service, our server Melissa went out of her way to make our experience amazing!!! Shout out also to Catherine, for great conversation! We were invited back for brunch the next day and it was just as good! We will definitely make the trip again just for Margaux.

TLDR: We’ve been here multiple times and have never been disappointed with the cocktails, food or service! It’s a beautiful environment and atmosphere inside the JW Marriott hotel downtown Grand Rapids! We’ve been visiting this bar/restaurant for over a year now, sometimes out of convenience due to the location and until last visit for The Emperor’s New Groove, my absolute favorite cocktail ever created, that I DON’T have a photo of and that they JUST took off the menu 😭😭😭 However, they have many other delicious options which I’m happy to try. This visit, I ordered the Strawberry Blonde (which I loved and ordered a second) and he ordered the Margaux Signature Old Fashioned - the first try with Makers 46 and second try with Buffalo Trace- he preferred the Makers and I preferred the Buffalo 😝 He ordered the full size Caesar salad (add blackened chicken breast and shrimp) and I ordered the accompaniment Macaroni Gratin- which he ended up ordering a second portion of for himself 🤤 because it was so satisfying! I forgot to take a picture of the dessert menu, so I can’t exactly remember what we ordered for dessert but it was a fantastic chocolate cake/ mouse/ gelato with caramel sauce. All of it pieced together perfectly! They have a large selection of top shelf liquors, a very friendly and attentive staff, and a beautiful view of the river. UPDATE: We have visited a few more times since my review, so I thought I’d do a quick update! We stopped in for Mother’s Day brunch (since both of our mothers were out of state) and it was lovely! The price was more than usual because the buffet included more than usual on account of the holiday. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT skip the omelette station! The chef (my sincerest compliments) made me the most delicious omelette I’ve ever had in my life, and was such a lovely gentleman! I’m rarely impressed with anything because I’m me 🤣😫, but he and the staff at Margaux never cease to impress. The brunch pastries were absolutely delicious. Another highlight was the smoked salmon. The meats were supposedly scrumptious as well (I’ll take his word for it since I don’t eat meat 😅). Last highlight- the sherbet mimosa was super refreshing and not too sweet. Our next visit was for birthday dinner with friends, and we sampled quite a few cocktails. We revisited the strawberry blonde (lovely and not too sweet), the Mr. Pink (one of my new faves), the Aurora Borealis (the visual reminds me of Halloween, and when it starts mixing, you can really see the appropriateness of the name), the What’s Up, Doc? (I would have never ordered, but after having a sip of it from my friend’s drink, I may have changed my mind 👀), a Dirty Martini (reported to me as “as expected”), and an East of Eden- I was hesitant to order this drink because I generally don’t love cucumber, but I’m all about trying new things, and it was very refreshing). We ordered the Cheese Plate, as we usually do, and I can’t say enough how happy it made me to not see the duck pate on the board 😬. Being on the cheese! 😅 The birthday girl ordered the Filet Au Poivre (reported to be wonderful), two of us ordered the Crabe Royal (and, oh my, was it flavorful! Definitely a new favorite for me), and one of us ordered the special which was a 45 day aged 12 oz New York strip steak. He subbed the frites for Macaroni Gratin. He said that while the steak was good, it feels cold on the outside and he would have preferred it charred for flavor. He did admit that he generally prefers a filet mignon, and does not prefer this cut, so while the steak may actually be great, it wasn’t his favorite. The staff brought my friend a surprise birthday treat, which I had a bite of and it was SO GOOD- a very rich flourless chocolate torte-type thing with perfectly fresh berries. We’ll be back soon! There is valet parking available, otherwise you can park on the street or in the parking garage.

It was our second time here and everything was fantastic again! Appetizers, entrées, and desserts were so good! The scallops appetizer with the butter was cooked right and didn't complicate or hide the main flavor I was looking for. I couldn't stop eating the passion fruit champagne sorbet - blasting with flavor! Plus the sliced apple flambe was fun to watch being made in front of us and all the flavors and varying temperatures blended well (I.E. the warm apples & sauce with cold ice cream).

Definitely one of the best dinner experiences, my man Patrick went above and beyond to make sure we had a memorable birthday evening. The views from the balcony are out standing, the breeze from the river makes it even better ! We had the hearth roasted sea food for 2, $85 . We tasted bitterness in every bite because carbon from roasting , but the crab was juicy and delicious. Patagonian king Prawn was cooked well and juicy. Lobster tail was good. Old fashion was fantastic. Sparking wine is good. Surprise birthday cake was perfect !

Yelp
My wife took me to Margaux for Father's Day brunch. We've visited their brunch before, but this time it felt lacking. They only served breakfast items for brunch and had a shortened lunch menu. The brunch bar closed at 2pm, so make sure to arrive before 1pm to enjoy a hot and fresh selection. The cost of the brunch is $32. Since it's in the Marriott Hotel, it's well lit, has a nice, upscale vibe, and is located on the first floor. They also have an outdoor patio that feels cozy and offers views of the Grand River. We decided to order from the abbreviated lunch menu. I had a tasty Double Hamburger called the Dek Double Burger, upgraded it with truffle fries. My wife chose the Lorraine Quiche, which was okay. She got a very small piece for a high-end price of $19. We both ordered water. They had a nice selection of the usual brunch drinks and a healthy variety of wines, beers, and cocktails. Overall, the service was good. If you use the valet service, which I recommend, make sure to get your parking ticket verified for a $2 discount.

Yelp
Stopped here for a drink and chat with the girls. Patio was awesome with a great view of the river and blue bridge. Server kept our drinks full and the fries were great and a huge portion!

Yelp
Birthday brunch for my wife afforded me an opportunity to seek out a great brunch option and Margaux did not disappoint! Nestled into the beautiful JW Marriott hotel downtown with window views overseeing the Grand River, the ambiance was relaxed and vibrant with beautiful chandeliers and artwork. As for the food - despite a wide selection on the menu, we elected to go with the buffet option and at $29 was not inexpensive, but once we saw the offerings (and learned that it included coffee and juice), we knew it was actually a bargain. While I was focused on the amazing bagels with salmon and capers, the birthday girl enjoyed a freshly prepared omelette prepared in front of us by the kind and amazingly talented Chef Elvis. Add onto that two cups of to go coffee and you get two very satisfied customers.

Yelp
I was visiting Grand Rapids recently and stayed downtown. Wanted some kind of nice breakfast before I hopped back on my plane to head home. Was able to find this place within walking distance of my hotel, so I popped over. When I arrived, it took quite a bit of time for someone to come out and actually seat me. The interior is kind of small, so they didn't have any tables available. I offered to sit at the bar instead. I was enticed by the promise of a "breakfast buffet" - but once I arrived and took a look at everything, it didn't seem worth it for the price -- I unfortunately don't a bottomless stomach! So, instead I ordered the Belgian waffle - it was light, flavorful, and came with lovely compotes of syrup, cream, butter, and a sort of jam topping. I tried all of them and enjoyed each one. Service one I was seat was quick, friendly and pleasant. Overall, a good experience.

Yelp
Came to Margaux for a nice dinner while in Grand Rapids for a work trip. The restaurant was not busy late on a Sunday, but our service was great. It is a super nice space and fun to see the food cooked in the kitchen. I had this boar pasta dish that was to die for. It was unlike anything I had tasted before, but it was delicious. I also had strawberry sorbet for dessert which was very refreshing. Great spot with great service!

Yelp
Visited Margaux for an anniversary dinner. They offered champagne upon arrival to celebrate! Staff were very attentive and helpful with navigating the menu. We were happy with all the food- but recommend saving room to try out their dessert! Great place to go for a fancy dinner downtown GR!

Yelp
Wonderful surprise! Wasn't expecting much for service on a Thursday afternoon but staff was great and attentive! Beautiful space. Food hit the spot too

Yelp
I love Margaux--from the atmosphere to the music and the service, it's all a 10/10 for me. It's the perfect spot for a date night or a get-together, with a romantic and calm vibe. Our food was delicious, and the drinks were just as good. I have nothing bad to say, nor have I ever heard anything bad about Margaux. It's truly one of my favorite spots in Grand Rapids, and I can't wait to try their igloos!

Yelp
Service was outstanding for our Thanksgiving dinner at Margaux. Our server was attentive, and genuinely friendly and helpful. Thanksgiving dinner was served via a buffet with all the trimmings for $65 per person, not including drinks. Our $14- $17 drinks were well-made with flavors perfectly balanced. Unfortunately, most of the trimmings for dinner were a miss for all four of us. Sometimes traditional holiday foods are not only ok, but welcome. There's nothing wrong with serving stuffing and mashed potatoes and gravy alongside the gourmet selections because guests love choices. We enjoyed trying a little of everything, but when it came right down to it, the only things we all enjoyed were the drinks, a couple of the pastas (the boar sausage in the orecchiette pasta was fantastic), beef from the carving station, rolls, and dessert. Those mini desserts were scrumptious! Several of the sides were cold unless you scooped from the bottom. I've decided that turnips and radishes should never be roasted, and green beans should be cooked until they're at least a little tender. It also would have helped if we had been given a table for four with a tablecloth instead of a couple round two-seaters pushed together so that we were sitting 2-3 feet from each other and right next to the carving station. Thankfully, our server helped make our dinner enjoyable and the woman at the hotel's reception desk made our night end on a high note with her cheery demeanor and offer to take a family photo in front of the Christmas tree.

Yelp
We were able to get in here before a matinee at DeVos despite tons of college graduate roaming with their families! They had an amazing looking brunch buffet but we orders off the menu. My mom couldn't stop raving about the fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and we demolished the truffle fries quickly because they were so delightful. I loved my Ceaser salad with anchovies, and the aperol spritz was refreshing. Our waiter was helpful and attentive without feeling pushy. The space looks out onto the river

Yelp
Nothing negative to report. Food was good, ambiance was good, and service was above par. We had very pleasant interactions with the chef and a few members of the service staff.

Yelp
Enjoyed eating outside here for lunch and looking at the river. Salad and chowder were great. The bar at night is amazing perfect drinks and bar manager very friendly. Never even knew an outdoor bar was here so was happy to discover it. Will definitely be back next time in Grand Rapids.

Yelp
Just ate here for dinner and was not impressed; the food was tasteless and expensive by any measure. Staff was nice and offered to provide extra plates to split our food, and we agreed. Little did we know they'd charge us extra per dish for a "split fee." They should at least indicate they charge such a fee on the menu. They don't. In short: Margaux is mediocre and overpriced. I have had much finer meals in Grand Rapids (with better atmosphere) and would not recommend.

Yelp
Came for drinks ahead of our dinner reservations. Super fast service, really friendly and great cocktails. The cocktails were fantastic - Smoking Peach and Pursuit of Snap-Pea-Ness. Yummy! If you are in town in Grand Rapids and are near the JW Marriott, stop in - you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
We were staying at the JW Marriott and booked dinner at Margaux and started with some excellent cocktails at the bar before getting our table. The endives and bleu d'auvergne salad was excellent. Bitter, sweet (from the apple) and delicious with the bleu cheese and champagne vinaigrette. The escargot was completely the opposite. The escargot themselves were rubber and, instead of butter to dip your baguette into, these were served in beef broth. The broth was very good, but far from what I expect from an escargot dish. Our mains were the day boat scallops and the braised wile boar ragout campanelle. The scallops were fine, but not exceptional and the campanelle was oddly sweet and bland. Unfortunate. As a side we got the macaroni gratin, which was probably the best thing we ate that dinner. We did not get dessert.

Yelp
Such a fantastic dining experience. We came here for our 8 year dating anniversary and they did not disappoint! The menus were specially printed to say happy anniversary and we were greeted with champagne to celebrate. We were even given a special dessert! The food was all fantastic. The appetizers came with a baguette and salted whipped butter. The mussels and broth were DELICIOUS! The presentation in the pot was so fun. The escargot was perfectly cooked- not chewy at all. The steak tartare is prepared tableside which is fun to watch. I preferred this with the bread provided with the escargot instead of the crispy bread it comes with. For dinner we had duck and lamb. Both cooked and seasoned perfectly- 2 slices on each plate. Absolutely nothing bad to say about these. The food was coming out slower than expected (we were there about 2.5 hours), so our drinks ended up being comped as well which was very kind of them. We didn't mind waiting between the courses but our server felt it was too slow.

Yelp
Margaux is located on the first floor of the Marriott past the elevators. I've had the AYCE breakfast here, but I wanted to try out the lunch menu. I chose to sit outside by the river. It was quite windy, so I had to make sure my menu didn't fly away. Also, there were a bunch of bugs with long wings flying around, but that didn't bother me. It was a new menu, so the staff didn't know if they had everything ready. I went for the burger. Great beef flavor, soft bun, slice of cheese, and very fresh veg. The fries were nice and crisp too. I loved the burger. It had a good meat to bun ratio and it tasted very fresh. I'll definitely bring my plus 1 for lunch next time I'm in town.

Yelp
Came for a glass of wine and enjoyed my experience. I feel I need to come back for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and anything in between. Staff was friendly, prompt and knowledgeable, and the entire restaurant is just beautiful. Can't wait to come back for more!

Yelp
Came here because there was an issue when i was checking into my room during my Marriott stay so they gave me a free breakfast voucher! Overall the food here was pretty solid for a breakfast buffet and the service and ambiance of the restaurant is amazing. They have a breakfast menu that you can order from but I was short on time so i just stuck with the buffet. The Belgium waffles and bread pudding were soooo good but the eggs just tasted like most hotel buffet eggs. If i was staying here again I would definitely come here for a quick and upscale looking breakfast to start the day.

Yelp
We arrived a little earlier Grilled FiletGrilled Filetthan our reservation and they were good with that. The ambiance was fine and we really liked the open kitchen area. Was good to watch the chefs not being rushed but methodical as they went about their craft. At first glance the selection was a bit light in options. We were hoping for a little broader selection. My braised boar campanelle was exceptional. Perfectly done and a perfect portion, not overwhelming. My wife got the peppercorn filet medallions and they were really good but there was far to much pepper that they were encrusted in. She had to scrape a lot off and still too overwhelming with so much pepper taste that she couldn't taste the filet much. I tried it and agree. We took most of it home and had to 'doctor it up, to calm it down'. We both feel that if you get such a great cut of meat it should be the event, not the surroundings. Also we did get the flatbread which was great! Very flavorful. Service was very good and timely. Very friendly waiter but when we first got there I ordered a glass of wine and she almost did but then ordered a cup of coffee first. He never asked us again if we wanted any other drinks but our water glasses got a lot of attention. Overall very good but we were expecting great.
google avatar

Marianne G.

Yelp
YUMMMM.. The food here is SO good. Unfortunately, they had a very small menu, so we were kind of forced on what we got. But that flatbread was amazing. The drinks were good as well. The service was pretty good - nothing crazy in either direction. Obviously, the prices here are high. That's expected. But we left very full, and had a lot of food to take home with us.

Yelp
Summery of my review: EAT HERE !!! My boyfriend and I like to try out new "fancy" restaurants for special occasions. I reserved a table here for his birthday this year and the whole experience was incredible. Reserving a table was easy, and when I called requesting a certain spot in the restaurant, they accommodated us. We got the cheesy pesto flatbread as an appetizer and it was just alright, but our main dishes (steak frites & roasted chicken) were AMAZING! My boyfriend is a big steak guy and he said it's one of the best he's ever had. I tried it as well and agree. It has this incredible crust around the outside that really enhances the flavor and texture. My roasted chicken was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. I got coffee and my boyfriend got an old fashioned and they were both amazing as well. Our server was very kind. Our table was just a little circle table with a candle in the middle but it was cute and romantic, just how we like it! They even gave us a free dessert for his birthday. We will absolutely be going back!

Yelp
Gluten Free - Yes, item specific Casein Free - Yes , item specific **Covid Time Travels- experience may vary based on local rules, including capacity. Margaux is the JW's restaurant. Due to Covid restrictions at the time, seating was limited and spilled out into the main lobby seating area, as well as on the terrace in addition to the main dinning and bar area. Breakfast: * While they may have a breakfast buffet, if you have allergies, you may find ordering al carte the safer option. Thankfully, they were able to accommodate a Gluten Allergy and make pan fried potatoes. ***Make sure you verify how items are cooked, because they may end up having cross contamination. Dinner: - They were surprisingly able to modify a handful of their items to be GF. The chicken and ribs were two such dishes. If you have to substitute a side, the Michigan asparagus is the way to go. -Their drink menu offers a nice selection, but be warned, they are dangerous. The drinks are smooth, and the alcohol is easily masked by other ingredients. Tips: **Make a reservation if you wish to dine at a specific time, especially if they are still limiting capacity during your visit. **They have GF Udi's bread. Just make sure to ask for it.

Yelp
We came here for the seafood tower and we LOVED it! :) Tonight my friend and I had a reservation for dinner through the opentable app. We were seated immediately and ordered some drinks and appetizers. My holiday margarita was good but pretty strong. My friend ordered the Winter cosmo which had a sugar cookie in it! That's something I haven't seen before. For appetizers we tried the mussels and snails! The snails were an interesting texture for me but I loved the flavoring they had.. and the mussels were amazing in whatever white wine cream sauce they had been soaking in! It was so good in fact, that we dipped the rest of our complimentary bread in that white wine sauce instead of pairing it with the butter it came with haha. Next came our seafood tower! We ordered the petite size because our server thought it would be plenty for the two of us. The petite sized seafood tower had one half lobster tail, 4-5 scallops, 4-5 shrimp, maybe 8-10 mussels, 2 prawns, and a cluster of crab legs! Definitely a good size for two people. Our server said the grande size is basically double what you're ordering for when you get the petite. I really enjoyed the sauce that came in as well! As we were finishing our tower up, our server brought out some freshly made pasta from our chef saying he didn't want our sauce to go to waste :D and we ate some pasta mixed with that sauce and was tasty! For our entrees, we ordered the rainbow trout and the Scottish salmon. The salmon was in a flaky crust and I really enjoyed the texture of it! Never had salmon made in a pastry before! Dessert was amazing! I ordered the Chêvre Cheesecake which has crushed caramel, rhubarb coulis, strawberry compote, and a spent grain graham cookie crust! Soooo amazing! I loved the flavor of the crust so much and texture of the crushed caramel. So crispy and good. I would like to say our server Liz was the absolute best! Very kind, attentive, and took the best care of us tonight! Honestly, all of the staff was very kind and wore masks. Tables were spaced far apart. We had more than one staff member check on us to see we were doing well. I will definitely come again someday:) Parking tip- use the Marriot parking garage! They validate your parking!:)

Yelp
Recently enjoyed a birthday dinner in one of the Margaux igloos. They are spacious, well heated, have great lighting for your insta pics ;), and even come with a speaker for you to play your own holiday tunes while you dine. (Or just T-Swift's new album on repeat like us, you do you lol.) Aside from the great atmosphere, we enjoyed the following from the menu and each dish was exceptional. If you're an Oyster lover, you MUST try these! The champagne gelée is truly something special. Cheesy Pesto Flatbread Oysters Truffle Fries - GINORMOUS portion and the table's collective fave dish of the night Caesar Salad w/Pan Roasted Salmon Campanelle (Pasta) Gnocchi Parisienne Caesar Salad w/Grilled Chicken We also shared a bottle of BUGEY-CERDON "LA CUEILLE" over dinner - recommended by our incredible server Liz, after we shared that we preferred sweeter wines. It was a huge hit! Our experience wouldn't have been what it was without Liz - WE LOVE YOU! They also DO validate parking if you park in the JW Marriott parking ramp. Be sure to give your parking ticket to your server with your bill to get validated! They also have four new igloo experiences, including a Let It Snow spiked coffee & hot cocoa bar. Will definitely be back to try that!

Yelp
Wonderful drinks and beautiful setting. We got the charcuterie board and it was definitely lacking in both presentation and item offered. For 21 dollars, I'd expect an explanation of what each item was and maybe some olives or fruit as well. We also both had salads. I will be back for the drinks, the food was meh.
google avatar

Caitlyn L.

Yelp
The outside area of the JW, formally known as 616, features a small yet high quality brunch menu and a half dozen cocktails. The Sunday brunch scene is popular yet not overflowing with people. I really enjoyed the ambiance of the igloos in mid March. Though the menu is quite small, the quality of the ingredients more than makes up for it. The pesto cheesy flatbread is definitely a 10/10. My partner also loved the mushroom flatbread, but I hate mushrooms so I wouldn't be a good person to ask. I really wish the service was a little more attentive and that the cocktails targeted a little bit of a younger crowd. They should think about adding bottomless mimosas to the menu.

Yelp
Margaux for the win!!! This has to be the best restaurant in Grand Rapids. We have been having breakfast, lunch and dinner here for the last 4 days and EVERY meal has been stellar. Great food. Great staff (especially Liz). Overall 5 stars. I mean how can you have 12-15 meals at a place with no complaints. We eat in a lot of hotel restaurants and I can't remember when we had such a great dining experience with such consistency. BRAVO CHEF!! #foodie #grandrapids #goodeats #finedining #margaux

Yelp
Margaux is the cafe inside the JW Marriott. We had breakfast at Margaux four days in a row. Hostess: Nice hostesses, generally quick to seat. But on the weekend reservations for breakfast are a must. Food: The cook is incompetent. Every day of our four days something was completely botched. Day 1- potatoes were so over salted they were inedible. Day 2- Potatoes tasted frozen and eggs Benedict sauce was 50% lemon juice- ugh! Days 3 and 4- eggs were completely undercooked. We specifically asked for our eggs to be fully cooked because early in our stay the eggs were runny. Got worse after we made the request to fully cook them. Service: Average to above average Ambiance: French bistro style Value: for botched breakfast at $20 / plate, not a very good value. Overall cleanliness: above average Tip: if you can't get a table for breakfast and really want breakfast, ask for it to go. One morning, we ordered ours to go and ate in the Concierge Lounge on Floor 23

Yelp
The food here was excellent. We reserved a table here as part of our final baby moon trip and were not disappointed. Our server Esvin was top notch-- super attentive, friendly and welcoming. My husband ordered a sparkling wine for his aperitif and the server noticed the wine was flatter than he'd like. He immediately came back out with a fresh bottle of wine and poured him a new glass of bubbly wine. He provided great feedback and recommendations on the food and drinks and even had the bar make me a custom mocktail. The drink was wonderfully refreshing and invigorating especially on a hot summer day. We ended up ordering the flatbread as an appetizer, the filet medallions and the gnocchi and for dessert the chocolate passion fruit delice cake. That flat bread was probably one of the best prepared we've had at a restaurant. Soft center, crunchy bottoms and crust and the perfect balance of Parmesan cheese, toppings and sauce. Every bite was a scrumptious morsel of sun dried tomato, basil pesto and the satisfying crunch and chewiness of the bread. My gnocchi was also fantastic- It was topped with some crunchy breadcrumbs and just enough sauce to perfectly coat the little pasta potato chunks. My husbands filet was also very tasty- the two Medallions weren't cooked perfectly medium, but still Acceptable. The dessert was also expertly prepared and came plated beautifully even to go. The gold Flakes on the chocolate ganache added an exquisite Royal touch to the dish. Another unexpected bonus- our server accidentally dropped some of the flatbread when packing it to go for us and proactively asked the kitchen to prepare us a whole new flatbread to go to Make up for it. Honestly, with the stellar food and above and beyond service, we couldn't ask for a nicer place to go For fine dining. The one drawback that probably is hard to control is the temperature inside the dining room. With the room facing the west and having floor to ceiling windows, it was quite hot in the dining area. Otherwise, this place definitely is a gem. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Friendly service, beautiful dishes and silverware, elegant interior, and tasty menu. Margaux was great for my birthday dinner! We ordered quite a few dishes and got free champagne for a birthday toast. I would have to say that the mussels are at the top of my list from everything we ate. The French Onion Soup was not bad, Campanelle was good but quite salty, Charcuterie offered a nice selection of items, and Shrimp Cocktail was very fresh (though we were a bit taken aback when we compared the portion to the price..). Not pictured is the Scottish Salmon which was good but also quite salty. For drinks, the Strawberry Mojito was nice but a little strong for me and the Grapefruit Old Fashioned was too boozy. We brought our own cake for dessert at the end of the meal and they charged $3 per person for cutting and plating. We parked in the JW Marriott Parking garage and Margaux validated the parking ticket for half the price.

The food was very good as was the service. The ambiance is okay, it's a hotel restaurant which for me always have a challenge to feel cozy. They indicate they validate for parking but didn't cover half of the cost for an hour and a half of parking. Which at about $100 per person for the meal left a bad taste in my mouth, pun intended.

Yelp
I just want to say thanks to Grand Rapids Elite Ashley L and her great review of Margaux's brunch. After reading it I knew I wanted to take my boyfriend for an early birthday outing. We had been going to the Cygnus brunch the past few years, so it was great to find an alternative. I made a reservation online but there were only a couple other groups while we were there at 11 on a Saturday. The former Six One Six space is completely redone and is really pretty! One side is airy and bright with tall ceilings, and the other side is a little dimmer with soft seating and cozy vibes. I loved the space and felt very comfortable there. The buffet is smaller than the old Cygnus buffet but they had plenty of breakfast options as well as some lunch items, which was great. We tried a little bit of everything and my favorites were the croque monsieur, housemade vanilla yogurt, and the made to order omelette which was one of the best omelettes I've ever had! They also had waffles, baked goods and pastries, mini desserts, club sandwiches, beef sliders, pasta, blintzes, bacon, sausage, and chicken sausage, breakfast potatoes, charcuterie and cheese, fresh fruit, and housemade smoked salmon. You can also order omelettes or eggs however you like them. Our server Liz was so friendly and attentive! She even brought over a special birthday dessert for my boyfriend, which was such a nice touch. I highly recommend the weekend brunch at Margaux for a special occasion! At $30 per person it's really a steal for the quality of food and service you receive.

Yelp
I expected better. It was just ok. Not great. But ok. Service was just ok. Not great. Food was just ok. Not great. The ambiance is nice. But on a windy day they sat us near the door to the outside. So every time the door opened a big gust of wind blew in. We were the only ones in the restaurant at first. An early dinner. So we should have asked to be moved. Then about 1/2 through our meal they sat 2 more parties right next to us. The rest of the restaurant was still empty. It was awkward. For the money I would go somewhere else for a fancy dinner.

Yelp
We reserved an igloo for a date night. The igloos hold 4 ppl with a $200 minimum spend. We went on the night where there was a wind advisory and the igloos did not move one bit!! The waiters and the items they brought out seemed to get blown hard by the wind but not the igloo, it was study like a little house!! My drink was just ok, didn't feel it was up to par with what I expected but the wine was good. We both got the NY Strip, there are only 6 main entrees to choose from, and felt it was good but not excellent. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. It was nice for a date night with the water view but don't think we would come back for that however inside when we were waiting for valet, there was live music and a fun atmosphere so we will return for that.

Yelp
We stumbled into this classy little hotel bar/restaurant while taking a moonlight walk along the river in downtown GR. Although the food smelled amazing, we just had cocktails, but what a treat! All of the drinks were handcrafted with a high attention to detail. I tried the Costa del Glasgow which included a sprig of Rosemary that they scorched while it was in the glass. This resulted in a fragrant rosemary scent with every sip... mmmmm. My husband tried the Green Mile, and was equally impressed. This unique cocktail has green chartreuse, with cinnamon and vanilla notes, for a spicy, herbal vibe. Really delicious! Make this your date night destination, and you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
A beautiful modern French restaurant inside the JW Marriott, beautiful and classy and spacious with a water view. It's nice after a long day at work or conference, come here ti chill at the bar, good cocktail list, impressive wine list for the area, and tasty food. Wagyu Beef Sliders with mushrooms, horseradish cream & fried tuffled potatoes, just the right amount of a mini-burger, portion control is key. *lVietnamese Fresh Shrimp Spring Rolls with Jumbo Lump Crabmeat, pickled vegetables, peanut pesto & chile jam - I was impressed to see this on the menu. The Pork Tomahawk was perfectly cooked. Grilled Filet of Beef with caramelized onion-bacon jam, red bliss mash, asparagus & red wine reduction, hubby loved it. Stir Fried Confit Duck of shiitake mushrooms, carrots, onions & ginger, stuffed in fluffy bao buns over red cabbage slaw with black vinegar sauce, such a tasty dish for those who has more refined palette. Their 3 prix fixe menu is only $26.95 week days if you come before 6:30pm, and only $36.95 after 6:30pm, this is such a bargain. Service was great when we were here twice in a week. We will come back if we have work in town again! And definitely staying at at the JW Marriott, you can charge to your room, earn points for your Marriott Bonvoy too!

Yelp
Why is the escargot spicy I gotta have a bunch of words so I'm just adding a bunch of words to have more words. The escargot is green and usually escargot does not look like this. There's nuts in the escargot

Yelp
I didn't have the chance to dine in at Margaux during my short stay in Grand Rapids, but I was able to get a hot chocolate to-go. It was one of the best hot chocolates I've ever had. Super creamy, perfect balance chocolate and milk, and definitely not made from a powdered mix. Give it a go on a rainy day! The hostesses at the front are very kind and welcoming. The restaurant looks nice from the outside, and the dinner menu looks pretty good, too.

Yelp
Margaux! French! Bistro!!!! Put those three words together and boom - full on food and drink explosion. Want to eat in an igloo? - well bring your best Inuit suit and come on in. Want some freaking awesome old fashions - put on that top hat and dance like Fred Astaire with some cherry bitters! TRUFFLE FRIES!!!! Is it France? No, but Grand Rapids will do. Now on to the service... The great...the bartenders - super cool and make good drinks The just ok...the host person - look, I am all for making sure you have enough room for everyone - but it's a buffet breakfast and there are plenty of tables open - telling me we only have an hour to eat is ridiculous - get it together - really did not appreciate the attitude - plus person was wearing a mask, which is cool with me, but make sure to enunciate - couldn't understand a word person was saying The great - waitstaff - once past host person - waitstaff was super friendly and attentive - great service!!! So overall a five star French experience - now time for some French fries!!

Yelp
This was an amazingly creative restaurant. I shared a few dishes with a friend which was great because I got to try more and everything was amazing. We had the octopus which was cooked perfectly and the prawns to start. We then had the lamb loin and the salmon. The lamb was extremely tender and tasted amazing. The salmon was probably the best I ever had. It was very buttery and just fell apart in your mouth. I would definitely go again!!

Yelp
The worst meal I have had in a while. The winter salad was bland and definitely was suffering from the winter blues. The salmon was and the vegetables were so oily and underwhelmed my taste buds. My husband had the white fish and felt it was meh. The children's menu grilled cheese was shameful. The chef needs a PIP. The service left lots to be desired. Won't be visiting again for dinner. I do enjoy their breakfast and brunch buffet.

Yelp
This is a French restaurant in the lobby of the JW Marriott. We are Bonvoy Marriott Elite members and received complimentary breakfast at this restaurant. This is a cute petite restaurant with an outdoor seating area. The staff were all very nice. I think in the past this might have been called Six-One-Six. A few locals and online article recommended Six-One-Six as a must place to eat. Even though the name changes, I was looking forward to trying Margaux. The first day I had the Belgian waffle ($16), the employee said it is the best. It was okay. The waffle had no crispy edges and flat, normally they are fluffier. The compote of berries was very good and the tartness complimented the maple syrup. The second day I ordered the ($18) 2 eggs and asked for fried eggs be cooked 80%. They come out almost raw and the whites were not cooked. The potatoes also tasted like they were frozen potatoes. The third day I decided to try the eggs benedict ($26). Finally eggs cooked right, but the hollandaise sauce had way too much lemon juice added. The Enligh muffin was not toasted properly so it got soggy. The ham was very good though. Again the potatoes tasted frozen. I asked the waiter, he was they should not be frozen, but he wasn't sure. Our last day it was so full, we ordered our food to go. I asked for fried eggs cooked all the way, again not cooked right, runny, but this time the potatoes were fresher tasting and had a slight crisp to them. I will say the jars of honey, raspberry jam, and orange marmalade are delicious. This is the best orange marmalade that I have ever had. The jams are the perfect combination of sweet to tartness. If they offered just toast with jam, I would prefer this. For the price of the food here, it is not worth it. Looks pretty, but majorly lacking in execution and taste. If you cannot properly cook an egg or execute breakfast, there is no way I will eat dinner at this place. Tip: If you are staying at this hotel and you want to guarantee a spot for breakfast, make a reservation. Our last day here there were no openings for guests. We did order to go. Thank you hostess for allowing this.

Yelp
I've enjoyed many a meal at the old "616" but have not made my way to Margaux yet. I probably should have waited longer. The menu was extremely limited and I understand that. Supply chain and lack of employees have affected nearly every type of business. But....at a place of this calibre, I expected much better preparation from what was being offered. My criticisms are focused solely on the food. Two of us ordered the Peppercorn Filet prepared with a pepper crust and cognac peppercorn cream. We both ordered our steaks medium rare - they arrived medium well. Saumon en Croute was also ordered. This dish featured Scottish Salmon in flaky pastry with sauce vin blanc. First, the flaky pastry was black on the outer edges signifying a grossly overdone condition. The salmon was very dry and tasted what I would imagine cat food tasting like if I was ever to try cat food. White wine sauce-must have evaporated. How this dish ever got out of the kitchen is beyond me. I can understand one order out of four having a problem but three out of four is a bit much. After we had begun eating, our server asked if everything was OK. I mentioned the overdone steaks and a manager promptly offered to make new ones. Here's the problem. When you're dining with friends, making an issue by sending food back especially when almost everything was not good detracts from the overall experience you hope to have with your friends. As I mentioned, this review is solely about the food. Our server was excellent and we appreciated the manager's involvement. I've always thought great service can make an average meal pretty good. Not this time.

Yelp
Margaux is a luxe restaurant tucked inside of the JW Marriott of Grand Rapids. The decor is very modern and sleek. The atmosphere itself is elegant but relaxed. The high ceilings and big windows will make you forget that you're in a small space. Seating is spaced out well. The kitchen has an open concept so you're able to watch the chefs prepare your food. Our server, Liz, was awesome! She was very helpful with break downs and recommendations. She was also very fun to talk to. We started out with the escargot and the mussels. The escargot was very buttery, garlicky, and tender. Delicious, I must say, but I couldn't stomach the fact that I was eating snails. Lol. The mussels were amazing! The white wine sauce that came with it was finger licking good, so good, that we had Liz swing by with extra bread so we could soak up the last of the sauce. We then ordered the petite seafood tower. The petite was definitely enough to split between two people. It was very good with the right amount of spices. We also got some complimentary pasta from the chef so our sauce wouldn't go to waste. :) Fair warning so, it's going to get very messy. But thankfully, you'll get a nice hot towel to clean off with. For my entree, I got the rainbow trout! Omg...delicious! It was tender, flaky, and soft with a light lemony buttery taste. Dessert was the Chocolate Marquise! The chocolatey mousse-like texture went so well with the candied hazelnuts. I felt like I was eating the lite cake version of a Ferrero Roche. Yummmm! I had a great experience, next time I'll try to reserve a dome for outdoor dining. Also, if you parked in the JW Marriott, ask your hostess to get your ticket validated. :)

Yelp
We had a lovely dinner at Marquax for my last birthday! I loved the experience and the food. We booked our meal in one of their outdoor domes. Even though indoor dining was an option, we thought it would be a cool experience and we were right! Check out my photos of the dome and view them below. For our appetizer, we had their Pesto flatbread- really good and the kiddos ate it too. Our entrees included the Clam Chowder, Filet, and Petit Seafood Tower. Everything was very good but I wasn't blown away by any of it. I was blown away, however, by the drinks I ordered. I tried their Winter Cosmo which came with its own tiny gingerbread man- so cute and delicious. And I tasted one of their warm apple drinks (server suggested) and it came with the most adorable donut on top. For dessert, we had the cheesecake and their raspberry sorbet. The cheesecake was one of the best I have ever had! Highly recommend!

Yelp
This was our final stop in our 5 restaurant strolling dinner - sweet end to a great evening! My sister made OpenTable reservations for 845p here and check in was strange. There was a group of 5 men waiting near what we thought was the host stand. After 5 minutes of waiting, we walked into the restaurant and asked a group of servers to seat the guys and us (separately). Then we were told our table was getting ironed - huh? Then, we got seated. It was a weird way to start our experience but after that, everything was amazing! While we waited for our server, we saw a tablecloth actually get ironed with an unplugged iron - I guess the tables do get ironed :). I loved the wallpaper and the muted colors of Margaux - total 360 from the bright and flamboyant 616 that it used to be. I also would love to steal the hanging light fixture in the semi private room - so beautiful. I think moving semi private to the back wall really opens up the restaurant and makes it look way more spacious. We got desserts, cocktails and coffee. Allison was a great server - very kind and friendly. Cheesecake was so creamy and I loved the tang of the chèvre. Chocolate marquise was so fluffy and smooth and rich. My sister ran into her friend from elementary school and he sent out a flatbread and round of champagne - thanks, Justin! Overall, really fun experience. Great atmosphere and loved living the boujee life for 1 hour. Loved dining next to a group who ordered the seafood tower - we got to eat vicariously through the scents wafting from their table :)
