Marguerite’s Jerk Bistro

I came here on a whim and the first thing I have to say is… WOW. I came right at closing and the owner, who was a sweetheart, was nice enough to take my order just before shutting the door. I got the oxtail meal, and the person with me got the jerk wing meal, sub rice for fries. Every aspect of this meal was amazing. The rice and peas with the fresh thyme was the perfect touch. The plantains were ripe and crispy on the edges, just how I like them. The cabbage was just right, tender without being completely overcooked like it often is at other places. The oxtails were truly falling off the bone, and the flavor?! Whew. Just enough spice. When I opened the box I thought I needed more gravy (I’m definitely an extra gravy kinda girl), but I didn’t! I needed nothing. I will absolutely go back. (I did not get to try the wings because I was too full but they smelled phenomenal)

Friendly neighborhood joint with delicious comfort food, good service, and generous portions. We had the Jerk Chicken and the Curry Chicken, and they were both great. Can't wait to go back on a Thursday night for the Oxtails!

I decided to check this place out since it’s a short walk away. I ordered the “belly full” chicken curry and a lemonade for $21. I received a bowl that was mostly rice and not a lot of chicken, probably 4-5 small pieces including lots of bone. Would be fine for a lunch-sized portion but for the price I was left very dissatisfied and definitely not “belly full”.

Me and hubby stopped in because I wanted Jamaican food and so glad we did. Got our food to go and end up eating it in the truck so good, the owner came and talked to us and pointed out her family photos on the wall which I thought was super nice she was so nice and pleasant, I can’t wait to go back. BTW my curry and hubby’s jerk platters were super amazing.

Ordered a Brown Stew Chicken meal. Seems only available on Fridays. Plantains were good. Not too oily and plenty sweet. Cabbage was excellent...good bit of flavor and not treated as something just to fill space on your plate which I appreciated. Seems maybe a hint of coconut or coconut butter in it. Rice was solid. Good texture, grainy as I prefer it. So why only 3 stars you ask. Well the chicken was WAY too salty; to the point where it was borderline inedible. This is coming from a person that has definitely been told that I like my fair share of salt. So would I be back? Maybe give em one more chance but I sure wouldn't order the brown stew again.

Good food and nice people! Got the jerk chicken dark meat, so tender. Loved the beef patty, big and FULL I’m a sucker for good coco bread too. The cabbage was more like lightly cooked cabbage salad, different than what I was used to but good nonetheless The smoked Mac and cheese was nice surprise as well. Would definitely recommend

The lady at the counter was very nice. I ordered the curry chicken and the mac/cheese. The mac/cheese was fine, but the curry chicken felt like jerk b/c my mouth was on FIRE!!!!! Like I couldn't even enjoy the flavor b/c of the heat. And there was literally NO CHICKEN, just potatoes and rice. About 20% chicken and 80% rice/potatoes. And for $17 just for the chicken, I expect more protein. I'm very disappointed. If I'm in the mood I might give this place another shot, but not anytime soon. Sorry, I wanted to love this place, but after the first visit, not so much.

This wonderful place was recommended by a reliable source. It surpassed my expectations. I got the fried red snapper w/ cabbage, beans and rice and the best plantains I have ever tasted. I went there on Sunday and I can hardly wait to go back on Thursday. Please, please, please continue to season and serve the fish like it was cooked on Sunday. Thanks Marguerite
