The 21 Best Bars In Lisbon - Lisbon - The Infatuation
"Maria Caxuxa is located inside a former bakery and playfully mixes old and new—there’s a wood-fired oven at the end of the bar, stone arches, and vintage furniture that somehow doesn’t look out of place with the bar’s strobe lights and galaxy-themed wallpaper. Whether you're headed here with a few pals or plan on befriending some strangers, this spot is a fantastic, charming, and centrally located bar where you can dance to ‘90s music and share a bottle or two of Portuguese wine. It’s also one of the best bars in the city to order a caipirinhas, an icy lime and sugar cane liquor drink." - rita geraldes
Maria Caxuxa - Review - Bairro Alto - Lisbon - The Infatuation
"Bairro Alto is the epicenter of Lisbon's nightlife—it’s where you’ll find groups of friends hopping around between bars, restaurants, tattoo parlors, and late-night shops. And while many Lisboners have gradually started to seek less-touristy alternatives, you’ll still see locals having a drink or two at Maria Caxuxa.

"The most popular bar in Bairro Alto This is one of the biggest and most popular bars in Bairro Alto. However, despite having so much space, a crowd still gathers just outside the doors to have a drink and a chat. If you want a seat inside, try to arrive early. Secondhand furniture, antique sofas, and old radios create a retro atmosphere; posters of cultural events hang on the walls and there is an old wood oven as a reminder of the cake factory that used to exist here. The music is mainly electronic or jazz."
Quiet Bars in Lisbon’s Bairro Alto Neighborhood - AFAR
"Housed in a former cake factory, this cozy, living-room–like spot mixes an endearing mishmash of tiles, marble, and art to create a homey, slightly cramped atmosphere where parties of four might squeeze around a table for two. Vintage sofas and live music ranging from acoustic guitar to electronica add character; cocktails are straightforward rather than groundbreaking, and the mellow community of locals and visitors — plus posters promoting upcoming concerts and workshops — are the real draw while you sip a capirinha." - Nicole Antonio
"Plenty of bars will vie for your attention in Bairro Alto, Lisbon’s nightlife hub, but don't overlook Maria Caxuxa. A wood-burning oven and vintage machinery pay homage to the bar’s past—a circa-1946 bakery—bottles are illuminated on bar shelves against the backdrop of a world map; and wallpaper, movie posters, and sofas give the space a cozy, informal feel. A chilled-out alternative to Bairro Alto’s more rambunctious joints, Maria Caxuxa is a good spot for a beer, coffee, or a simple cocktail." - Alia Akkam
Friendly staff, amazing music and a diverse crowd. Music goes from modern pop up to rock classics. Great place if you are looking for meeting people in the city.

Its a nice bar, the music is a mix of old and new pop music which we love. The bar tenders were friendly, especially the gentleman who was turning 55 last weekend (sorry forgot his name) he was so kind and friendly. Will return on my next visit to Lisbon.

Visited this bar on a Thursday night, very unfriendly and unwelcoming locals within the bar. Lacking atmosphere, drinks weren’t very good made with flat fizzy drinks and even suspected they used a cheaper vodka than requested. Tasted like cheap vodka in a branded vodka. We left the drinks and went somewhere else.

Maria Caxuxa bar is popular with a mixed crowd, busy, lively, with DJs until 3am on weekends. (Looks quiet during the day, but those brown doors are painted rainbows on the inside!)
Maria Caxuxa, Rua da Barroca 6-12. Thurs, Fri, Sat 22:00-02:00 (03:00 on weekends)

Great neighbourhood bar / locals are the majority of their customers.
Friendly service and fun place to hang out especially if the weather is lovely and you can be outside.

I don't drink so I can't comment on the actual bar, but their wifi came in clutch when staying at a nearby hostel with an awful and unstable connection.
Thanks random bar for keeping your wifi open!

It seems the place is open back again with the easening of restrictions in Lisbon. We were inside. Music was okay. And drinks are average. It missed its old hype. This place was a gem.
