Where to Eat and Stay in and Around Granada

"Set in a 19th-century mansion within one of Granada’s most attractive urban settings, this spot focuses on traditional cooking where fresh fish takes center stage; with Chechu González at the helm, it’s an ode to top-quality ingredients from the sea, mountains, and local kitchen gardens, and to Granada’s and Andalusia’s love of sauces—the tasting menu draws on stocks, salsas, and escabeches to create unique combinations of flavors." - The MICHELIN Guide

María de la O

"Occupying a small 19C mansion with various options on offer (gastro-bar, private events etc). The cuisine here has a solid technical base enabling it to explore different textures and flavours." - Michelin Inspector

Really enjoyed our dinner here. The space has a cool, understated style and the atmosphere never felt stiff. The tasting menu was well put together, and you can tell they put real care into working with local products and regional flavours. The wine pairing fit nicely without being over the top. Service was friendly, attentive, and easy to talk to. Overall, a very solid spot and definitely worth checking out if you want something special in Granada.

The highlight of our culinary experience in Granada. We tried the tasting menu and the seafood courses and the duck were exceptional (the one lamb course was not quite to the same level). The wine paring was a revelation of local Andalusian wines and well paired with the food. We’d highly recommend.

I am a Korean guest who dined at Maria de la O a few days ago, and I can confidently say that the meal was not only the best in Granada but one of the finest experiences I’ve had in all of Spain. The food was impeccable, the ambiance of the restaurant was beautiful, the wine pairings were well thought out, and above all, the staff were exceptionally professional, courteous, and truly passionate about what they do. I have visited several Michelin-starred restaurants in Barcelona, but none of them came close to the experience I had at Maria de la O. It was more than just a meal—it was a memorable and inspiring experience. I sincerely thank the wonderful team at Maria de la O for providing such excellence. If anyone is considering a reservation, I wholeheartedly recommend it. Even from faraway Korea, I will continue to support Maria de la O. Thank you.

This place is truly exceptional! If you want to have a unique and gourmet fine finding experience then this is it! We had the tasting menu and their foods are not like anything you can imagine! We also had wine and it was so good !! Their service is also amazing. I can’t believe this was only 75E per person! And we were there for almost 2.5 hours. Not sure how they make any profit. In the USA I would have had to pay $600 Plus at least per person for this kind of dining experience.

We were tired of getting into “tourist traps” for dinner and wanted some place that serves the taste of local produce and cuisine. Yes, this was fine dining, but an amazing opportunity to taste the local food and wine. Before I go into the dishes- their tasting menu has a lot of dishes!! You’ll be full at the end of it. All dishes were great. Great service and highly recommend this place. Appetizers- all great options. Partridge fritter had an amazing texture on the outside. Amazed at the tomato juice one as it was so mild but yet powerful with the capers in it. Main courses- Beans with cod- hard to imagine Lima beans used in the soup. The cod soaks in the juice which is a great pairing. It had some kind of herb oil drops on it. Octopus- my only gripe was that the paprika in the soup wasn’t cooked which makes the soup extremely spicy. If the spice is tempered in oil before the broth is added, it should have a nice and toasted flavor. Duck breast with anchovy- Amazing! Green pepper sauce and snapper- the sauce blew my mind. I never thought of butter and padron peppers as such a killer combination. Fish was perfectly cooked with a crispy skin. Pickled corn soup- the soup itself was amazing and unique. Chef to think about whether some seasoning to avocado can improve the flavor. Desserts- 1- Croissant and loquat- perfect combo. 2- cherry and almonds- the textures were great. Nibbles- 1. Cherimoya - it’s a fruit with a very subtle flavor. I don’t think I got it at all. 2. Acid mandarin- again, I couldn’t taste the mandarin. 3. Mango chocolate- I would skip the milk chocolate inside and fill the cup with mango custard. 4. Beets and white chocolate- amazing!
