Best Kid-friendly Restaurants in Denver | Eater Denver

"With a gymnastics studio, playground, toy store, and much more to bounce around between, the Stanley Marketplace is a one-stop activity shop for families, made all the better by numerous dining options. One of the tops for tots is this empanada shop, which dishes up a wealth of hand pies both savory and sweet: Even picky eaters are sure to love the ham-and-cheese and the banana-and-Nutella versions." - Eater Staff

"Lorena Cantarovici puts all the heart and soul of her native Argentina into the hand-crafted and hand-held stuffed pastries on which she’s built an mini-empire. Though some locations are temporarily closed due to the pandemic, the Platt Park original is still churning out 15 different types at $4 a pop, including breakfast versions stuffed with scrambled eggs and potatoes, and various meats as well as staples like chicken with chimichurri and creamed spinach with parmesan as mozzarella. For a change of pace, there’s stellar tortilla española." - Eater Staff

We were very excited to see this place and try a variety of empanadas for the first time. They had quite a few to choose from as well as desserts. Tasty empanadas but I guess they didn't have any sauces, or they didn't offer them to us. My daughter thought hers were very dry tasting. Seating is outside only. No drink refills or table service. This wasn't a problem for us, but I wanted to point this out for the review.

Have been in here a couple times and love everything so far! Espresso drinks are well done, staff are super friendly, and the empanadas are delicious! Clearly have their recipes dialed in because it's all super flavorful including the sauces. So glad this place is in my neighborhood!

Google
Same great food and service at the newest location as at the others. The chorizo Espanola is a good choice for breakfast and there's a large selection of empanadas as well including a breakfast empanada. The pears in marsala are my favorites. This location has espresso based coffee drinks too. Service was friendly and helpful. They warmed the Spanish omelet for me. The location is small, but nice. There are no tables inside but there is outdoor seating. There are a few off street parking spots on either side of the building an a few on street right in front of the shop too. Right now, there's a lot of road construction going on in the area.

Just moved in down the street. Upon arrival, a nice woman held the door and greeted me. Loved the music playing. Lovely display case - showcasing the delicious food. The Corn and The Argentina were delicious. Great way to start my day. I will be back!

Google
I usually go to the location in Stanley market. I was near by this location. I was very disappointed. I love getting the pear empanada usually it has real pears, but here it was like a jelly the bread was hard not tasty at all. The egg and potato empanada was ok 5/10

Google
Very special and great experience. Placed a large order for pick up. When got back to work and divying it all out, noticed that instead of the half dozen banana empanadas, only 1 made it into the box. Called back and staff apologized and then she asked where I was located and packed a new 6 pack and brought them to my work. Truly wonderful effort on the part of the staff. Always been a big fan of Maria's but now will give them even more business. Especially with the Colfax construction disaster.

Google
I had high hopes because of the hype but was a little disappointed. I tried a few and it was pretty expensive for a twelve pack. My favorites were the beef and the corn. I might have rated higher if I thought they were a good value, but the quality didn't match the price, in my opinion.

Google
Maria empanada had a booth at gay pride today so I bought a beef, chicken and a chorizo. All of them are excellent. I knew I would eventually find a place that had good empanada, thank goodness there’s one really close to where I live.

Yelp
First of all, the empanadas are really incredible ! I've tried to try as many different kinds as I can, but my two favorites are the Chorizo (w/ Mexican sausage but it's not very spicy) and the Argentina (shredded beef, onions, etc.) They also have several vegetarian options as well. And the desserts ? I've only had one, but as I finished it was SO delicious I was actually licking every morsel off the paper it came on ... lol It's not a big place on Colfax (just a few blocks down from Colorado Blvd) but if you want to eat there, they have tables & chairs outside to sit down at. The construction on E. Colfax has been a bit troublesome but they are still open every day. I found they have a lunch special (you can get this special anytime, any day). It consists of 2 empanadas and a drink of your choice, all for $11.99 ! I have taken advantage of it several times now) ! Best of luck to this family owned business. I happened to meet one of the owners of Maria's today, and he's a sweetheart. As for regular employees, they are very pleasant always, and very helpful as well, answering all my questions patiently. Please check out Maria's Empanadas, you will be so glad you did ! Another thing I love: they were the FIRST to start "stamping" their empanadas with the name of the empanada you ordered. Another empanada restaurant actually copied this "stamping" technique, but Maria's was the original creator of stamping the empanadas ! (See pic).

Yelp
Small cute clean place with great empandas and friendly staff in Congress Park area (Colfax & Clayton). No seating inside really, but nice outdoor seating area. We got six to try a variety, but they have a lunch special two empanadas and a drink for $11.99. I enjoyed most we tried . Sierra and Maria were favorites. The beef, spinach and Diego were good too. but did not really like the caprese, think it was sun dried tomatoes vs fresh, which I'm not a fan of sun-dried. Glad there are more locations of this local favorite opening up. Glad this is within walking distance as we will go back.

Yelp
This location is their newest store. It is a takeout place only but I saw 3 small padded benches with micro tables to sit inside. The north facing patio has a cinderblock wall separating you from the sidewalk & Colfax Ave. They offer their full range of empanadas and sweets. Today they were donating a portion of their sales to the East High School Girls tennis team. East High is about 2 blocks away, so I would expect lots of teenagers until summer break. As a result of the extra customers, they were mostly sold out of empanadas. I noticed one of the staff persons retrieving empanadas from the freezer and going into the back to heat or fry them. I saw a heated storage cabinet, but it was getting emptied. They offer 3 flavors of Tractor Beverage Company soft drinks and expresso coffee drinks. There are 3 parking spots on either side of the building. Or park on adjacent which have no restrictions.

Yelp
This place is adorable. Service was great, food was yummy and everything was a 10/10. My favorite was the Maria empanada will absolutely be back.

Yelp
Delicious! We tried a few and the Argentina with sweet chili mayo was my favorite. They were all good and I'm excited to go back to try more flavors. Everyone was very friendly too.
