We always love our experience at Mariachis. The ambiance is cozy on the inside, spacious and energetic in the outside seating (which is covered and climate controlled). The chips are always fresh and brought to the table almost immediately. But the thing that separates the chip game at Mariachis is their homemade hot salsa. You have to ask for it, and it's not for the faint of heart (it's hot!) , but it is absolutely amazing. The food is prepared fresh, delivered while it's hot, and in ample portions...even the lunch portions. The prices are reasonable and the waiting staff is friendly and attentive.

I had wondered why the restaurant’s parking lot was consistently full. After my visit, the reason became clear—good food at reasonable prices. I ordered the beef and cheese dip, three soft tacos, chicken soup, guacamole, shrimp, and Mexican steak. Every dish was enjoyable, with moderate portions and plenty of flavor. The only drawback was the limited selection of Mexican drinks, but that’s understandable given the restaurant’s family-friendly focus rather than a bar atmosphere.

We’ve only come here one other time, and both times what’s sticking out and making the visit memorable is the staff and their efficiency and quality. Not sure if it was manager, or owner, but the older gentleman man who greeted us and also served our table was patient and friendly. Food was good, price was good. Will be back!

Google
Very affordable Mexican food! The restaurant has a homey feel with TVs scattered playing Saturday football. The staff were very kind and our food came out quickly. The food didn’t have a ton of flavor but it got the job done. 👍🏻

Google
My husband loved his monster burrito. My combo of a burrito and enchilada was real good. My meal came with rice and beans. The prices were very reasonable. Four of us ate for under $65. Next time we're in Sumter, we will definitely be stopping in to Mariachis. Our waiter, Remy or Ramy, was Johnny on the spot. Great service .

Lisa R.

Google
I have never had faster service anywhere I've ever been. We ordered our food and within 2 minutes our fajitas were at the table. I'm not even joking... My boyfriend and I looked at each other thinking they brought someone else's food because it was so fast.

Greg M.

Google
Our server was Victor and he was great. The food was ok and the atmosphere is standard Mexican fare. My daughter had shrimp fajitas and they were not good. The chicken soup was good.

Google
So nicely done and we will be back with the big family next month. Such great people & terrific food!!

Yelp
Always busy!!! Great customer service!!! Quick order service of rice and beans and hot crunchy chips...salsa was mild. To go order was fast.

Yelp
Great chips, great salsa, good food, but the cheese they use is really poor quality. Food would be better if they used better cheese.

Yelp
My mom and I had a late lunch at Mariachi's in Sumter recently, and it was delicious. We were in town visiting my dad at a physical rehab center nearby, and even on a Saturday and an off hour (3 PM), it was busy but the service was prompt. We started out with the complimentary chips and salsa, and the salsa had a kick to it. If you like mild salsa, you may need to request it or order cheese dip, guacamole or something else, but the salsa was perfect for us. I had a Lunch #21- Quesadilla Sincronizada. Don't ask me how to pronounce the name of this dish, but it was a quesadilla that had shrimp and cheese inside, along with veggies pouring out. It came with a guacamole salad as well, so I definitely got my greens in. The portion was large and the price was right. My mom had a Lunch #13, Pollo Borracho. This dish consisted of grilled chicken with peppers, onions, and sauce on top, salad, and rice. She gets similar dishes at the Mexican restaurant close to home, and she liked this. It was also a large portion. Our server was nice and prompt with getting us menus, chips and salsa, our food, and the check. The glasses of water were huge and we didn't need any refills, nor did we need to-go boxes, but he checked on us anyway. Hopefully he won't be in the rehab center too long, but if he is, I'm glad we found a Mexican restaurant close by.

Yelp
The food was a pleasant twist on Mexican. One dish; Pollo Loco (crazy chicken) had some Chinese veggies. The lunch fajita was excellent; too much food, but yeah. Decor was simple Mexican cafe type. The waitstaff was well above average. Courteous, professional .

Bynum K.

Yelp
By far my favorite Mexican restaurant around. food and service is always great and the prices are hard to beat!

Heather T.

Yelp
Restaurant is old, outdated and dirty. We sat inside the restaurant at a booth- extremely cramped and felt like you're sitting ontop of other diners. Smells like a cheap cleaner they use inside the restaurant. Waiter continuously wiped his nose on his shirt while serving us. I was so grossed out. Didn't matter if the food was good or not after everything else, I was too grossed out to have an appetite.

Yelp
By far my favorite Mexican food establishment in Sumter. A shame they are closed on Sundays. My recommendations: 1) Fajitas on rice (or fajita nachos if you prefer). The meat is tender but has that browning from the grill that makes it absolutely delicious, and the Mexican rice is always perfect and they smother it in a plentiful dose of melted white cheese. You can specify with or without peppers and onions, and with steak or chicken (or shrimp), or even mixed. 2) Steak or pork chile colorado. Their red sauce is boss. This dish is pretty much my litmus test as to whether a Mexican restaurant knows what they are doing. Most of their other food offerings are great as well, but honestly pretty standard given any good Mexican restaurant. I will add that their molcajete, chimichangas, and shredded chicken in general could be better, but those aren't really my thing anyways. Just FYI if those are your go-to entrees then you won't be overly excited as they are pretty average, in my opinion. The service is always amazing, and I have had every server they have ever employed tend to me and my family, and I don't have a single complaint over 10+ years of eating there. To be fair, we are regulars and they all recognize us. The decor isn't anything special, but we have never waited to be seated even when the place is packed, which is astounding in itself. They do have an outside patio with tables if that's your thing, so they can seat very large groups outside. Inside they just have booths. Food rating: 5 stars simply because of how good their outstanding dishes are. Service rating: 5 stars for previously stated reasons. Ambience rating: 3 stars. The place is clean and functional, but don't expect to be blown away by art or architecture.

Yelp
Me and my family decided to come out for the first time and I can already tell this will be my new favorite restaurant! The place was busy but our food still arrived quickly and hot. The place was clean and the staff were all very respectful.

Jan R.

Yelp
Very nice group of workers here and Excellent Food. I always order the Quesadillas but am ready to try something else others have recommended. The parking lot is always packed which makes me think this place is a favorite for a lot of people.
google avatar

Charles R.

Yelp
Really like this Mexican place too but anytime you have a big crowd you have to sit on the outside covered deck space in plastic chairs. I don't really like plastic chairs. Food is generally similar to any Mexican place, quantities and taste is all very good. Again plastic chairs is not a good thing.

Yelp
Service was slow and the experience is inconsistent. Been there three times, only 1 visit was "ok". Others were not good. Again this is regarding service. When the order is taken and given correctly to the kitchen, it's good, but they seem to push the speed and not the experience. Bar is slow and we always seem to get food before our drinks.

Gabriella D.

Yelp
There's so many options if you get there around 5:00 it's not packed your food is fast and they almost always get your order right if you wanted Mexican I would most definitely go here!

Dorian C.

Yelp
Hands down the best Mexican restaurant in Sumter. We stopped in the day after moving in and we were quite impressed. We went during the week and they weren't busy but the food and service were excellent. The chips for salsa were fresh cooked but we learned they have a secret salsa you can ask for if you don't like that generic tomato stuff. The special salsa definitely has some kick so eat at your own risk. Since that first visit we also ordered take out and again the food was great. Definitely will be our go to spot for Mexican food.

Yelp
Went here for the first time with a large group on Cinco de Mayo! One of our party arrived early because there are no reservations allowed and we knew it would be popular. It was about a 45 minute wait but we were able to all sit together at 6pm! We dined and drank out on the patio. My only complaint for that is that it would have been nice to have a fan or an open window for some breeze because the sun was shining in and there were a lot of people so it got warm in there. The service was phenomenal - order accuracy, speed and efficiency, delicious food delivered hot. Our server also kept the margaritas flowing and regularly offered us more water. I had the fish tacos with a side of avocado and 2 lime margaritas which were on special. The tacos were delicious. I moved the filling from 1 taco and split it between the other 2 but then I ended up eating the third tortilla anyway because they were delicious. The avocado was perfectly ripe and had lime juice on it. The beans and rice were tasty and hot. The margaritas were some of the best I have ever tasted. I'll definitely be visiting again but probably not on Cinco de Mayo and I'll take my family next time. Great restaurant - give it a try!

Yelp
I love mariachis we go multiple times a week normally it's quick, good, and great workers.

Yelp
Based on the reviews of this place I wasn't expecting much. I really only came here because I was starving and really craving Mexican food, but I must say that Mariachi's blew my socks off! Everything about my experience here was wonderful from the food to the service and I was in awe. First I had the complementary chips and salsa which were brought out immediately with my water I had ordered. The salsa was fresh, flavorful, and not too spicy and had the restaurant style salsa consistency. The chips were awesome and you can tell that they fry them in house. To pair with the salsa I ordered their queso dip which was equally delicious. I could have sat there all night and feasted on just the dip, salsa, and chips but knew I had to order something a little more substantial or I would have cleared them out of chips! I ordered the chicken ala parilla which consists of grilled chicken breast, guac salad, sour cream, pico, rice, and beans. My first bite of chicken made me really respect the chef as the chicken was grilled excellently, holding in all of its flavor and moisture. Along with the amazingly tender chicken, the rice and beans were the perfect balance of flavor. From what I could taste and see I believe they use different kinds of peppers in the rice that gave it a rich flavor. The food was far beyond what I have tasted before at typical Mexican restaurants and you can tell that the kitchen puts a lot of extra effort in the dishes they serve. The prices of the food only enhanced my experience here even higher. Almost all of the meals are under $10 and have plenty of food to feed someone with a big appetite. I can't wait to come here again to try their margaritas! Unfortunately, I came here on a Sunday which is their no alcohol day. Along with margaritas, their drink menu also had various domestic and imported beers that were all at a great price point.

Yelp
Attention people of Sumter: This place is going to kill you with all of the salt that is placed in their food if my chicken fajitas is indicative of how they season their foods. I ordered the chicken fajitas, with extra corn tortillas. I took one bite of the chicken, and my mouth began to feel the burn of salt. The inside of my mouth began to feel like someone poured an alkaline substance in my mount. My head is pounding. I could not and did not eat the fajitas. It was very unpleasant. Too much salt on this food was an understatement. I felt like high blood pressure and heart attack were on their way. If this is how they season their foods, Mariachi eating will cause bad health results. I threw away the fajitas - waste of my time and money. I will never ever never ever eat at this place again. Never ever. It's is a slow death coming. Be careful people of Sumter.

Christopher S.

Yelp
The food is great, service is excellent and their margaritas are perfect. Mariachis has a great atmosphere too

Yelp
This is my favorite place for Mexican since Angels on Main closed. Hard to say what my favorite item to eat is there but their Hot Salsa is GREAT
google avatar

John D.

Yelp
Have really enjoyed 10 or so recent lunches here--all Atkins style, modified molcajete (no chips, rice, or beans). Food and staff are wonderful. But it was really annoying yesterday to have two flies buzzing round and round my plate. Ugh. Will need to insist on being located further back from the front, near the kitchen? Owner/staff solution? Maybe bug zappers near the entrance and patio doors? Well, on to "Plan B" (back table, away from doors to kitchen) next time!
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
Not a bad local spot. Taco Tuesday is the best here. The menu is also packed with dishes that are great as well. They do not have a bar but do offer alcoholic beverages. The staff is always friendly to us and the service is quick. If you live in the area and haven't made it here you should try it out.

Sarah B.

Yelp
I've been dinning here for 5 years hosting business lunches and dinners as well as personal outings. Unfortunately, this will be my last time visiting. I tried to call in an order on my home at 9:14pm. A hostess answered and put me on hold, I finally arrived at the restaurant at 9:28pm, no one ever got back on the phone so I hung up and went inside. The hostess asked me "What do you want?" To which informed her I had been on hold almost 15 minutes so I was here to place my order. The hostess bluntly said "we're closed now"; however, their hours say 10:00pm. I informed her again I had been on hold since 9:14pm and it's not even 10:00pm to which she rolled her eyes and just stared at me. The management should really invest in replacing the front of the house. They are driving excellent customers away.

Therese S.

Yelp
This place was so good! The staff was very friendly and our food came out fast! The chips and salsa remained full prior to the food arriving. We both ordered spicy Bloody Mary's and they were so good! The food was delicious and the portions were big! I also loved the variety the restaurant offered.
google avatar

Jerry R.

Yelp
Camarones a la "diabla" hit the spot. They said the only spicy item on the menu so ofcourse I went for it. The recipe is a bit different from the traditional one I'm used to but still good. After all I asked for it so I can't complain. They use a Chile morcajete salsa so it has the blends of union, tomatoes and Jalapenos and possibly red peppers with green tomatoes.
google avatar

J D.

Yelp
Still the best mexican food around. However today the service was horrible. We notice not as many people today (Sunday) I ordered a Margarita but they don't serve alcohol on Sunday's. Thats ok but you need to take the huge sign down out front that says "Try our Margarita " Getting back to the service normal the service is top notch. Not today

Yelp
Mariachi's was an okay Mexican restaurant. It wasn't amazing but it would definitely soothe my Mexican cravings. They have an off area in the back that's somewhat of a patio but somewhat indoors. It's technically the outside of the building that they've built as part of the restaurant with a plastic exterior. The food is good and the portion sizes seem to be average based off my experiences of other local Mexican restaurants. The servers kind of left us alone for the most part, I guess because there was 8 of us, but was nice. The whole experience was kind of just subpar.

Jazmin J.

Yelp
Very average food. The first and only time we've been here, the service was terrible. The waitress was incredibly unfriendly. To the point it ticked me off. We didn't complain. However, we will not be returning.
google avatar

Miguel A.

Yelp
I'm used to Mexican restaurants in San Antonio but when your craving Mexican come to this place. Fresh salsa and hot chips served right away. 9 different flavored margaritas made fresh for $1.99 Monday-Saturday. The Mexican kabobs were good with fresh grilled vegetables. The beans were a little less appetizing but flavorful. The Little bit of everything plate is made for two people unless you have that kind of appetite. The Mariacha Burrito is massive and filling. Service was awesome and checked on us frequently. Prices are very reasonable.
google avatar

Keyla A.

Yelp
The food is Good. They have a lot of Variety of Mexican Food on the Menu. We stopped here to eat something and continue with our trip to Fort Lauderdale after Hurricane Irma.
google avatar

Diane Y.

Yelp
Everything was amazing and delicious! Service was fantastic! Chips and salsa was never empty - nor were our drinks! The chicken and bacon fajitas are "to die for"! I will definitely have that again! We had a large group and each person was taken care of like they were the only one! Great place for a meeting or party!

Taegan T.

Yelp
Has the best cheese quesadilla with a side of beans and rice omg with a sweet tea like sheesh the best I definitely love this restaurant!!!!
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
I have yet to find any dish that I like here. Having lived in south Texas, it's below average Mexican food. I have tried it a couple of times and will settle for my Mexican fix somewhere else.
google avatar

Robin F.

Yelp
Not very good Mexican food, have eaten there several times both before and after there renovation, (I had high hopes after the renovation) it is pedestrian Mexican food at best for those who don't know any better. I used to live in Texas & California and have traveled to Mexico and South America many times so I have a rather high bar for "real Mexican cuisine" which this is not, also the Drinks were flat, thankfully I found Las Palmas in Sumter which is infinitely better, with fresh Coke products and some how a cheaper price.
google avatar

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
I'm only giving them 2 stars because I made a special order and they did it. Their enchilada sauce is the most bland I have ever tasted. It tasted like tomato paste with a hint of onion. There was also very little of this "sauce" on the enchiladas. As you may have guessed, I ordered enchiladas. The tortillas were tough. Probably because there wasn't enough sauce going on. Their rice reminds me of Rice a Roni Spanish rice. Not horrible, but not good, either.
google avatar

Roxanne K.

Yelp
This place has always been consistent and they treat you like family. Busy as it gets in here and I wish they serviced alcohol on Sunday! I used to eat here back in 2005, 06, 07 and when I went back this time it was like I never left! The food was exactly the same and the place looked the same. It's just easy to be here, easy to order, food is fast and hot. It's not Mexican street food, but it's what you'd expect from texmex.

Aleesha S.

Yelp
This meal was disgusting and it made me cry how poor the cheese was because that I give one star
google avatar

Nancy B.

Yelp
Had lunch there yesterday and my food was delicious. The service was fast and kind. The prices were very good for the amount of food you got. Our waitress was most attentive, kind, and answered all my questions. The only thing I did not care for was my side of beans ... but that was just a personal preference .... I had the Sweet Burittos (one shredded chicken and the other shredded beef). Absolutely wonderful. When I go back I want to try the Sweet Nachos ....

Chris B.

Yelp
My main reaction after eating here was the feeling that it needed better cleanliness standards. Our party was seated on the patio and several flies kept buzzing around our table, which was annoying. The chips that were brought out were pieces from the bottom of the bag. The food was only so-so, not terrible but too salty for my taste and very few healthy options. The wine was a joke, very, very cheap. Most of all, the restaurant could really stand a good cleaning and needs to maintain it.
google avatar

Dayana M.

Yelp
Coming from a mexican this has been the best mexican food in sumter not that its the best ive ever had lol Waiters are friendly also If you want mexican come to this place
google avatar

Kya W.

Yelp
Waiter that we always see is the worst. Can you say no CUSTOMER SERVICE. Literally, every time we order he never listens to the order completely. So of course it comes out wrong. We tried come multiple times but we always seem to get him and he's ruining our like of the restaurant. He definitely in need on one on one classes. If you don't have time management skills then that job isn't for you.
google avatar

Jeff T.

Yelp
Sweetest sweet tea of any Sumter restaurant. The Mocajeté Fajitas is to die for. Our wait-people were friendly, and very attentive. I never wanted for more tea, and they kept my son awash in tortilla chips for the nicely spicy Cantina Style Salsa. If I could afford it, I'd go there every week. By afford it, I mean, if I could afford the weight gain. And, I can't. But, when I want to eat out, it's Mariachi's when I want a taste of Mexico.
google avatar

Nicholas S.

Yelp
One of the, surprisingly, plentiful selection of Mexican restaurants in Sumter. I go to Mariachi's when we have a sizable group; seating is plentiful both indoors and outdoors on the covered patio. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the prices are very affordable -- with large portions. I am a Mexican raised in the southwest, so although nothing here compares to home-cooked Tex Mex, the food is tasty and a large menu is sure to accommodate even the pickiest of eaters. Try the queso con chorizo-- it is a great appetizer to start your meal.
google avatar

Dark K.

Yelp
I rounded up from three and one half. I have a soft spot for the non chain restaurants so sue me. The food was pretty good and the portions were larger than most. Thats right you heard me these folks arent selfish at all. I may have a food baby after this and I don't fill easily. The wait staff is outstanding. I was promptly greeted at the door and shown to my table. My waitress arrived within a minute of my being seating and was sincerely friendly. My food arrived quickly. The flavor didn't knock my socks off (in all fairness its not easy to do) but it was just as good if not better than commercial chains i have visited. The prices here are pretty good too. The bottom line is that I would eat here again and recommend this restaurant to family and friends. The menu has plenty of items i would like to try. If you have never been I say give it a go.
google avatar

Kristi K.

Yelp
Food was ok. Water tastes awful. Probably won't come back. Service was slow. Booths are very tight and small.

Gloria Benton D.

Yelp
The food was okay. Beans were very bland. The employee chatter and screaming in front of the restaurant where we sat was uninviting and took the pleasure of out meal away. The employees sat in the booths right next to us. Very unprofessional. Wont be back.

Phillip B.

Yelp
I really hate this place now. I have been go to mariachis in sumter sc for quite some time now on a very regular basis. Say anywhere from 3-4 times a week. Tyey done lost my business. I would go hungry than eat at this establishment. Dont get me wrong: the food is always great but some of the waiters/waitresses need alot of work as far as their manners go.see: awhile back my wife and i had a awlful experience from this one certain WAITRESS. She is white with short hair and lots of tattoos on her arms . this waitress is a real smartmouth. And i promise you as a customer: you wouldn't want to deal with her either. this waitress has no business working in the restaurant business.
google avatar

Joseph K.

Yelp
This was a decent place. Just your basic neighborhood Mexican restaurant. It pretty much had the same menu as a thousand other Mexican restaurants.
google avatar

Jessica V.

Yelp
Good food and decent prices- but I'm only giving 1 star due to an over friendly waiter. He made the atmosphere very uncomfortable for me and my kids.
google avatar

JP S.

Yelp
apparently resurrected in another location.... Nothing GRANDee on this one. Usual photocopied menu. Probably the best around the Sumter area. Good service, friendly crowd. Foot is HOT... spicy and temperature.
