Chicago restaurant and bar openings for Spring 2019 | Eater Chicago

"A fast-casual concept offering Nashville hot chicken and fried fish inside grocery locations, with menu items ranging from spicy or oven-roasted Nashville-style chicken sandwiches to Jamaican jerk and shrimp po'boys alongside comfort sides like smoked-gouda mac and cheese." - Ashok Selvam

After a long day at work, I really enjoy the options from the hot bar & the olive bar. The dill salmon was a little on the dry side on the day I had it. However the fried shrimp, macaroni and cheese, asparagus were good! Coming here is a healthier alternative for me instead of going to a drive thru just to grab something.

Fantastic Shopping Experience at Mariano’s in Park Ridge! Mariano’s in Park Ridge is one of the best grocery stores around. The store is always clean, well-stocked, and beautifully organized. The produce is fresh, the bakery smells amazing, and the deli offers a great variety of quality items. The staff is friendly, helpful, and genuinely attentive, which makes shopping here a pleasure. Prices are reasonable for the quality, and checkout is usually quick and smooth. A great all-around experience every time!

Google
This location of Mariano’s was massive! I’ve been to other locations before, and they have never been this big. My favorite aisle was the aisles with the different international foods from around the world. You could find everything from other countries that you might not get out just regular grocery stores. There were a lot of deli options and fresh produce.

John B.

Google
Good grocery store close to our hotel. Prices are a bit high but they have a great selection of items and food. Their homemade glazed donuts for 0.99 is awesome! Most of their cashiers are teenagers that looked like they are forced to be there. No smile and zero kindness.

Zeko S.

Google
Many selection of food to choose from and also the gift section is the best!

Steven R.

Google
I was being followed by a Racist security while shopping. When I confronted him about following me he stopped and quickly turned around as if nothing happened. This unacceptable. He clearly followed me everywhere I went until I said something to him. Please do better.

Isaiah Bradford I.

Google
Still good, mostly. Some times the produce can be a little off or picked over. But it's still our main go-to store. The employees are ALWAYS super helpful and friendly.

Todd H.

Google
I really like this location. There are frequently great 2 for 1 deals that my family enjoys. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and its usually a quick in-&-out for me. The 14% tax on groceries sucks, but that's IL/CookCounty/ParkRidge combined tax rate for ya!

Yelp
I'm so extremely impressed with the Mariano's in Park Ridge! It not only offers underground parking but has a fully stocked inventory of goods which in my opinion, is why we choose our locations! No crossing your fingers or having to settle or go without! Great deli, bakery and staff! I was so grateful to Shawn R., the overnight manager, for his guiding me down aisles I was unfamiliar with in my search for my items! He was so efficient and his friendliness and courtesy motivated me to review this store! He made a chore so much more pleasant and sets a great example for all of us! My gratitude goes out to Mariano's In Park Ridge and a sincere thank you to Shawn R.

Yelp
Store is fine. Not enough checkers. For the price Im paying there shouldn't be a single self checkout. The outside of the store was pretty bad. The north side of the building that has parking was littered with a bunch of trash. I could easily of filled a 30 gallon can. Clean up man! Come on. You're letting this look like ghetto.
google avatar

Aesha E.

Yelp
It's fine, though Mariano's in general has gone down in quality since they first emerged on the Chicago grocery scene. This location can fulfill orders quickly, which I really appreciate. The pick-up spots were hard to find at first; they're near the Higgins side of the parking lot. Though they have a lot of surface parking, they also have some underground parking as well.
google avatar

Yelp
How in God's name do you NOT have baggers in a store on a Sunday? Or a Saturday even. Really? I guess Kroger is too stingy and cheap to hire them! I'm going to Jewel. Bye!

Richard M.

Yelp
Terrible customer service. Can't honor a digital price unless you do the coupon in app. However cellphones don't work very good inside of this bomb shelter of a concrete building. Bewildered "customer service" reps can look up the coupon and see it is valid but "sorry, I can't help you unless it comes up on your phone". This was said as they literally watched the phone struggle to have the thing come up in their lousy app. Will head to Jewel instead.
google avatar

Manski E.

Yelp
One of the best place to shop. The store is clean and they have daily sale of some items. Helps you some some bucks. I noticed there are some police assign in the store. I wonder why. Maybe this location is frequented by some shoplifters which make it bad.
google avatar

Mark Y.

Yelp
I wasn't mugged in the parking lot and I didn't experience any of the staffing issues others have so I have to say I enjoyed my visit. It's Kroger owned but looks like it was inspired by Whole Foods. Sushi, bakery, deli, pizza shop, smokehouse, guacamole bar. Stan's Donuts. There's a huge selection and prices aren't bad. Bonus: Our Ralph's customer loyalty number works.
google avatar

Craig D.

Yelp
(3) ~ Still A-OK...They really need more Natural & Organic Products to get a higher score. The layout is also confusing...

Jordan K.

Yelp
I was in the mood for a refreshing beverage and decided to stop into the starbucks. upon entering I was greeted by a pretty brunette girl. I think her name was Talullah? She gave outstanding service and hastily made my drink with perfection. Will definitely be back again!........she was lowk a baddie too ngl
google avatar

Jeff A.

Yelp
In Chicago and needed some items to bring to a backyard BBQ. When I lived in ChiTown this used to be a Dominick's grocery. Mariano's is WAY classier! Almost akin to a Central Market or Market Street grocery in DFW. Also they are affiliated with Kroger so used my rewards card for discounts! They had awesome wines, cheese and cracker l plates and charcuterie boards. All pre made. Nice!!
google avatar

Yelp
Never buy the sushi from here. The so called crab smells rancid. The brown rice used for the rolls falls apart and the whole tray smells like it went through a outside seafood market through and through. The wasabi is not like light green in color but in lime green. I didn't even bother touching that thing. The wasabi looks like dried blood blob from the Hulk. The ginger was dry and tasteless. Sorry not sorry for the sushi. Mariano's has decent prices for groceries when on sale. The other cooked food that are available are decent but the sushi do not waste your money. Again, avoid the sushi at all cost, unless you want diarrhea or stomach issues.

Yelp
Talk about falling off... When this Mariano's first opened, we had a live piano player, plentiful cashiers, a bar downstairs; now it is more a rest-stop for ride share drivers and others, you're more likely to hear someone playing music on their phone, and the checkout lines are long as they only have a few register lines open. If you are a regular, the regular staff are nice with you. The food is fine. The deals with the BP gas rebates are solid. Guess just try to come during early hours.

Enrique V.

Yelp
Want it to buy a cake from the bakery and the ladies working there was mopping the floor, no acknowledgment from her and 5 minutes passed and I asked her for her help getting the cake, she said give me a minute, and kept mopping for another 5 minutes, I asked her again to help me getting the cake and she said I need to finish cleaning, she said 5-10 minutes, I told her I could not wait for her that long but she just didn't care and I end up leaving, she looks like she didn't want it to be there, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. Will not go to the store again!!!

Yelp
We were missing Ohio until we walked into Mariano's which immediately spiritually transported to our beloved ACME. I stop in to grocery stores frequently to grab lunch. The grab and go sushi is often good and there are specials. We took the two for ten special and chose Parmesan garlic chicken tenders/boneless wings not sure what they called them... and green chili chicken tamales. The report on the chicken was "Wonderful!" My tamales were okay. I'm a tough audience. What they lacked in flavor they made up for in price and convenience. There was nothing wrong with them... just not special. The portions were huge on both. 6.99 usd for one or 10 usd for two. Easy peasy. The produce is fresh and wonderful if it is to be judged by these grapes. This is a little far to drive for us, but we will be back.
google avatar

Matt H.

Yelp
Long lines. No checkers or baggers. Most Mariano's are ok I'm not sure why this one is always so bad

Trevor J.

Yelp
I spend $12,000 a year at this Mariano's. They have lost me permanently as a customer. Staff too lazy to allow me to replace two defective products because it was not 8 am yet. I will take my business elsewhere.
google avatar

Kimberly S.

Yelp
HORRIBLE customer service. Get home and notice I do not have a bag of potatoes. The bagger was holding them and chatting with the checker and forgot to put them in my basket. I never go to this one so I called and asked if they could send the credit to the one on Golf Road. You'd think I had just asked them to comp me a year's worth of groceries for what they put me through. $3. That's all I asked for since my chicken dish now had to go potato-less. The manager FINALLY got it done but man oh man...never again. I'd drive to Volo to avoid this Marianos.

Nancy L.

Yelp
Sells rotten chicken with looks like a changed label. Customer service Manager had no explanation. I will never shop there again...can't trust them.

Ursula K.

Yelp
First, the good news. Pluses include some wonderful employees, a good assortment of produce, nice cheese department, good sales on meat and fish, and prepared food items. The floral department is lovely as are the floral designers. Now for the rest, never enough cashiers or baggers. Oddly the self checkout is always fully manned. Several times I've asked the question and been informed that's the store policy. I don't use self checkout unless I have just a few items. Overall, it's not good customer service for sure. Never have this problem at Trader Joes or Jewel in Park Ridge.
google avatar

Jack F.

Yelp
'Mike' in the pharmacy is super friendly and super helpful. Underground parking is very convenient in poor weather situations. Plenty of stock and choices throughout the store. I cannot comment on Bakery or Butcher areas. aisles are not very clean, and carts are filthy (and have been for years now) most employees are not very helpful or pleasant
google avatar

Susie Q.

Yelp
The rule I rarely go here, thought I would try because their fresh basil is a little cheaper than the other places around here. The cashier appeared that she didn't even wanna be here. Place not that busy. I had to lift so thinking if she doesn't like it now she only has about 45 more years that she has to work. Meanwhile, only one cashier open unless you want to self serve. There was one person ahead of me, and it took 15 minutes before I got to mine being taken. I think that's a little excessive and the manager should be ashamed. There I said it.
google avatar

Brendan B.

Yelp
Where do I start. The meat counter is disgusting. The guys behind the counter wearing masks that a filthy. Currently they want everyone to self check out. So there's a massive line of people for the single cashier. Keep it up and there won't be lines. I'm done shopping here.

Ryan M.

Yelp
The store is filthy, and stay far away from the deli. Meat is expired, spoiled and the associates have poor sanitation habits.
google avatar

Denise S.

Yelp
I live in Park Ridge and shop at the store 3 times per week at least. The management is horrible. The store itself is filthy. I have a Mariano's rewards account. I purchased something that was labeled 2 for $9.99. When I went to the total after putting in my rewards account, each rang up for, $5.99-$12. My total bill was $102.51. The person ringing saw the total. She had a manager come over and the manager supposedly voided them both out but the total bill was STILL $102.51. The checker just stood there. The manager said, "I don't know. I don't know what your original total was." The manager's name was Evelyn. I get that grocery store workers are underpaid. But here's the thing, grocery stores have made HUGE profits since COvID started. Train your staff properly. Make sure the sale items are marked properly. I hate this store.
google avatar

Elias S.

Yelp
I like Mariano's but why everytime I want a a Chicago Dog from Sammies there's not a person there. I guess they dont wanna sell their food
google avatar

Yelp
Today my daughter and I went to this Mariano's to visit their Guacamole Bar. We were greeted by a rude employee named Laura. When we walked up to the Guac Bar - instead of being greeted by Can I help you - we were greeted rudely by "What do you want". When my daughter stated what she wanted - she was rude to her and told her to go look around the corner. Now - all of the ingredients were there for the salsa that we were going to buy. I asked her if she still made the salsa fresh there and she just seemed annoyed. Reluctantly - she fulfilled my request and when finished just slammed it on the counter - no thank you or anything. I did report her to the Asst Store Manager who said that she would have a talk with her and she did give my the salsa at no charge which I appreciated. I have visited this store many times and purchased guacamole and salsa from their a lot.....never have I experienced anyone so rude. My daughter was so upset. And it took everything in my to keep my composure.

Amina M.

Yelp
Alan the manager is extremely rude. I asked the cashier where the bathroom was when I walked in so that I can use the bathroom before shopping, and he screamed at me to "hurry up we're about to close". Would definitely never recommend shopping here again.
google avatar

Jenni S.

Yelp
If you need a bakery item, go see Irma. She's really great. She will take her time with you and make sure you are over the moon with your cake/cupcake/etc.
google avatar

Larysa K.

Yelp
Post is only about the flower shop, less about the store as a whole. The women who run the flower shop at this location are incredible and so so so talented. Compared to the few locations in the area, this one is the best, they are always stocked and always seem to be the only store in the area who always has flowers , even at 1PM On Mother Day! I have been coming here for nearly 4-5 years now for flowers for any occasion and they've been coming in clutch each time. I constantly get compliments on the flower arrangements I have these ladies create , put together or wrap. Yesterday, I found this beautiful Bouquet already made. I couldn't pass it up. See the pictures!! Customer service with these ladies feels like I'm dealing with my own friends or family members. Very caring and understanding women.
google avatar

Mary C. A.

Yelp
The pharmacist and pharmacy techs at this Mariano's are wonderful. Patient, kind, thoughtful and never rushed. I don't think I've ever had better service at a pharmacy. Thank you!
google avatar

Koury K.

Yelp
5 stars rating just because of Melinda at the bakery and her amazing customer service. We got a few items from there; good but not Italian, the sign is not accurate, maybe the names are Italian but the taste is all American. Not bad but not what you would expect. All in all was a good experience here.
google avatar

Travis M.

Yelp
My wife asked me to buy vegetables and fruit because she wanted to make a vegetable and fruit salad. She took care of our son so she had no time to go shopping. And luckily I have no work to do. I went there early and there were only a few customers inside. I went straight to the selection of produce. I'm amazed how there is a different variety of vegetables and fruits. It's so easy to buy vegetables and fruits since it's all fresh and I will not be picky in choosing. One inventory grabbed my attention. I saw a pack of sushi. This was my favorite. So I bought 2 packs of it since my wife also eats this. I'm happy that I bought everything I need. My wife will prepare vegetables and fruit salad. Can't wait to taste it.
google avatar

Wanda H.

Yelp
The last time (a couple years back) I reviewed this Mariano's on Yelp, I was completely disappointed with the Deli offerings. However, one man has given me reason shout "BRAVO!!" His name is Alex and he makes the sushi daily at this location. I thought I'd try the King Crab Maki. OH MY GOODNESS!! Talk about doing the foodie happy dance and moaning like Bobby Wiley at Dr. Marvin's dinner table!! Wow! I've already started spreading the word at work. Be aware, though. You won't wanna share but half a tray was very filling! So, if you do share, ya might wanna do that with your significant other...I'll leave that to your imagination. Yes! It's like THAT!
google avatar

Rob W.

Yelp
I'm pretty new to the Mariano's experience... maybe 6-7 months or so. There's a couple of downsides to this store. First, in my opinion the layout is kind of awkward. It's a little hard to navigate and find items here. I've also had issues with coming across items that are out of stock. Ordinarily, I'd shy away from a place with those issues. But what keeps me coming back are the employees here - they're pleasant and helpful. Their positivity and attitude make up for some of the difficulties I've encountered. One more thing - the underground parking is a bonus on bad weather days!
google avatar

Danny C.

Yelp
I first have to say I've been a loyal Mariano's customer for a long time and I will maybe still frequent other Mariano's, just not the location in Park Ridge. I understand everyone is under stress with covid-19 and things are going to be a little slower so I am usually patient during these times. However, I went shopping for myself and my elderly mother and it took several hours to get everything I needed. I checked out and told the cashier I would have to do two orders and she seemed bothered by this. Anyway I brought reusable bags from home and Holly, the cashier, barked at me that I would have to bag the groceries myself. No problem. As the groceries piled up I asked if she could just bag them in paper. Once again she rudely told me they don't have paper. Ok she bagged then with plastic. At this point a bagger came for assistance and asked what I wanted him to do and immediately Holly said "he doesn't know what he wants". This is when my patience ran out. The manager on duty was nice enough but did make excuses for her and never apologized. Needless to say I will her set foot in that Mariano's again and I'll think hard about ever shopping there period.
google avatar

Urs M.

Yelp
The sausage and peppers at the hot bar is delicious! ...Oh wait! I'm supposed to do an intro and not dive right into it. Who cares? As I was saying~ THE SAUSAGE AND PEPPERS AT THE HOT BAR IS DELICIOUS! Are delicious? There's multiple sausages and peppers, but it's one dish. I don't know. Grammar blah blah. My favorite part about visiting Chicago is shopping at Mariano's. I love their selection! I love that they have gelato and mochi ice cream! Their pre-made dinners are worth the price and the quality is just, muah! -chef kiss- I love their sushi. I love their poke. I love the salad bar. I love the cheese station. I love their produce. I love their meats and seafood. Love. Love. Love. They're pricier than other grocery stores in the area, but I feel they are well worth it. The staff has always been lovely towards me and super helpful. Also the OSCAR MEYER WEENIE MOBILE shows up sometimes! How cool is that?
google avatar

Luis A.

Yelp
I'm nice but like please don't put me down before I even finish my question. Very displeased with the staff, cutting me off when I'm asking for help.

Carole A.

Yelp
Let me start by saying I do very much like your store in itself and the nice variety of products, meats and produce provided. The problem I have comes into play when you're actually trying to get OUT of the store! Mariano's, why in the world don't you hire cashiers and baggers? it's ridiculous! This isn't just an occasional issue either. This is almost an every week issue! I was on your Park Ridge store today and once again there was only one cashier working with one line open. The line kept getting longer and longer and yet it remained just one line. I know for a fact I stood in line for a good 30 minutes. I've been in there on other occasions in the middle of the afternoon where there is a long line, one cashier and sometimes there's not even a bagger. So, now that one cashier not only has to run your groceries thru, she/he also has to turn around and BAG all the groceries! I'm not sure what's going on. is Mariano's on a real tight budget these days! All I can tell you is this is a terrible inconvenience for all your customers standing there trying to just pay for their groceries and be on their way to continue their day.

Yelp
This location of Mariano's is definitely a hit or miss. From the few times I went to this store my experience would be always good but not the recent experience I had the last time I went in here. I honestly like their selection of every product as well as its price however, their staffs are just really something and there would be staffs that are extremely rude for no reason at all. Not all of their staffs are rude and in fact I like their staff in the bakery section who is definitely the different among the other employees because the staff in the bakery, I forgot the name is very friendly and helpful. Before I went to the rude cashier, I actually liked their fresh produce and the fresh pastries I got form their bakery. This location is really nice when it comes to their products and their selections of it but they definitely need to improve their customer service.

Sue B.

Yelp
I shop here frequently and normally do not have any problems, but today I received the worst customer service at the guacamole bar. There was a new girl working the bar, I ordered a guacamole. I watched this girl literally mutilate the avocado as she was trying to cut it open and remove the pit. As she was scooping out the avocado, I noticed quite a bit of brown in the flesh. I asked her to remove it and she said she couldn't. I told her I did want my guacamole made with all the brown from the avocado, so I would like her to cut a new avocado. She told me she couldn't do that. I told her that I didn't want the guacamole then and she could keep her brown fleshed avocado. Really poor customer service. Mariano's need to train their workers on what good customer service looks like.

Yelp
Great local grocery store with a wide selection of more unique items. Such as organic produce section and healthy choices throughout the store. They have many products, very good quality of the meats and plenty of fresh vegetables, fruits and very nice selection of cheese to purchase. Spectacular liquor selection with some very good bourbons and whiskeys.. I was happy going on Mariano's grocery store because, I have carries many of my favorite products and the pricing is reasonable. .Their selection of foods was great and impressive. Check out was easy and fast. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Mariano's store is a perfect place to buy all of your needs in your every day used.
google avatar

Rachel W.

Yelp
Definitely not my favorite Mariano's, but in a pinch it works. For some reason I don't find the layout of this store easy to shop. Maybe it's improved over the past few years, but I much prefer the Mariano's on Waukegan & Golf in Glenview or the Mariano's at Golf & Mt. Prospect in Des Plaines. Great for prepared foods and a nice libations department.
google avatar

Miles A.

Yelp
All I have to say is thank god there's an underground parking lot because the ground level parking is so god awful
google avatar

Miriam J.

Yelp
My review is specifically for Irma in the bakery. I have been meaning to leave her a review awhile back but keep forgetting. She is awesome at decorating cakes and for me cupcakes. I can tell her what I'm looking to create and she always pulls it off. The Mariano's bakery on Elston never seems to come through. I always ask but whip cream frosting and twice they told me at the last minute that they couldn't do it. Only butter cream which I hate. But Irma can! Thanks again!

Sophie M.

Yelp
ordered online received confirmation the order was ready for pickup arrived around the scheduled pickup time and I checked in waited and waited and waited one hour later several calls to the store still no order other customers came in after me and got their order what is going on? no direct answer to any call to the store computer crash. not the first computer crash for this store. what credentials do store people have to fix computer crashes? why make promises of the order coming out in five minutes? an hour later no order. online orders a paid for online. If you picked the order let me have it and do your computer adjusting on your own time. finally left. called to let the store know I had left. the assistant manager shouts to someone else "she left" to me he says "you will just have to come back". that statement IRRITATED me no end! explicative Mariano's should have thought of other options once they knew they had a problem the "friendly" Mariano's people should have figured out how to make things right give a customer options Mariano's has their own trucks for deliveries use them to deliver I come back and the manager comes out with the order. tells me he was nothing but nice to me. Nice? define the word. I don't think it is nice to use my time not answer direct questions.

Yelp
HEYY be who u are for your pride dont hide. Clearly Marianos is homophobic!!! What! Why is that. I came in w my cat wearing a rainbow harness and they called me a f*g and verbally harassed me!

Danielle B.

Yelp
I went to this location to purchase some wine for me and my girlfriend for a date not. I was followed throughout the store by the manager for no reason. Was I purchased my items and left Me and my girlfriend were stopped by multiple police officers with their guns drawn saying that the manager called and accused us of threatening him with a gun. Obviously this was not true nor did we ever speak to the manager. This was a purely racist action. We were told we were free to go by the officers. This is fully unacceptable. Racially profiling.

Tatyana L.

Yelp
This is the second year in a row I've used the bakery team for my son's birthday cake. This year they created a cake to go with his construction theme. Very happy with the results!

Yelp
My first time to Park Ridge Mariano's. Had to take my car to fix couple minutes away. The five stars is given to the lady who made the fresh guacamole tonight. She's polite and she's so nice to let me try it first after she has mixed the ingredients to see if i like the flavor. So yummy! Haven't walk through the whole store yet so I don't know about the food or other things. But I see a lot of customers wandering around the hot bar. I'll definitely come back for the guac hehe;)
