We visited after our lunch nearby because the donuts looked scrumptious from afar. Even at 1:30pm, they still had lots of selections available. The donuts were fluffy and soft. - custard: it was creamy and had perfect sweetness - raspberry donut: The raspberry jam was plenty and very good (not too sweet with a little tartness).

Google
I recently stopped by this donut shop and was really impressed by the quality. The donuts were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly crafted, with a great variety of options. The maple bar and blueberry cake donut stood out as my favorites. I’ll definitely be back for a reliably great donut every time.

Google
Lovely place with very nice workers. Apple fritter is 11/10. Nice apple flavor. Not too sweet. Good crunch with the glaze. Glazed donuts were soft and had just the right bite. Would definitely come back here.

Google
Best donut shop in Sacramento. Try their blueberry donuts. So tasty! Always fast service. There isn't any place to sit but there is a coffee shop across the street.

Google
Normal donuts. Apple fritter could use more apple pieces. Cake donut was fine. Pretty small selection. I'm not sure what everyone is crazy about, I guess it must be nostalgic for people born & raised here. No seating, takeaway only. Super cute exterior but the donuts are pretty typical for an independent shop. Good, not great.

I had never been to Marie's Donuts, even though I understand it has been around for a long time. I was in Sacramento visiting my daughter and her family and I decided to take my young grandson there because my wife's name is Marie! I was expecting a sit-down place, but instead it's just a little building where you order your donuts from a window outside. But that was fun. The donuts were tasty and fresh. The lady who was working the place (Marie? Probably one in a long line of "Maries".) was very friendly and kind to my 4-year-old grandson. I had wanted a cream-filled donut (as opposed to a custard-filled donut) but they didn't have any. When I asked, the lady said "No problem, I can make you one." She then took a donut and filled it with cream, just for me. It was great! I would definitely go there again.

Google
Loved meeting Linda - she will remember your order if you are a regular. No tables, but lots of parking available. AMAZING donuts, reasonable prices.

Google
Light-textured donuts, cheap, open very late. The cream was a little artificial tasting but still more real than Krispy Kreme. The hot chocolate was from a bag one of those sugary ones got very from a nice bank, not worth it for 2.50.

Yelp
Marie's Donuts on Freeport Blvd is a donut shoppe that has all the classics. If you're looking for a place to get your traditional donut done correctly just the way you remember, then this is it! When you go to Marie's Donuts you'll find a beautiful old school building with vibes from yesteryear. To order, you walk up to the window and select the donuts you want. There isn't an indoor seating area here, so just keep that in mind. The service is great and friendly. It was also quick! I can imagine this place being very popular in the morning and orders need to be fulfilled in the fastest way possible. In terms of donuts, this place has the kind you remember fondly. They don't try to do anything crazy or over-the-top. These donuts are delicious and perfect in their simplicity. And really that's all you need!

Yelp
The donuts are about average, slightly over given their unique white filling and how they present the yeast donut with a sandwich approach. Something different. The white cream runs much like Cool Whip in texture and flavor. I'm not a big fan. Average is good. Below average not so and above is better. The service is nice and the people are friendly. Of course this is a local fave spot and I appreciate the local entrepreneur versus larger corporate or grocery store versions.

Yelp
Lots of choices and they do carry donuts with nuts (which is wonderful)!!!. I find that some donut shops, the donuts are two heavy and not light and airy like they are here. They just started selling mochi donuts as well and they considerably much cheaper than Mochinut and taste just the same. Not as many flavors for topping for those...yet? Excellent custard, lemon, and berry fillings that aren't too sweet. They have a blueberry donut which is also delicious. The service is quick and friendly and they also seem like they enjoy their jobs, which in turn makes the shopping experience so much better.

Yelp
YEAH ICED CAKE WITH SPRINKLES. I grew up with Winchell's and that was my favorite, yet it's like a unicorn and so hard to find. I only opted for three donuts from their wife selection; 1 iced cake with rainbow sprinkles 1 old fashion with cherry frost and 1 chocolate iced cake with rainbow sprinkles. $1.25 per donut SAY WHAT that's a steal for the quality of these beauties. They have a nice perfect crust that seals in the moist shift cake underneath. I would drive an hour out of my way for some Marie's Donuts. I'll def be returning for more donuts before I leave SacTown on Friday.

Yelp
Came across this spot while exploring the area. There was a short line outside and we gave it a shot. Person who helped us was friendly - looks like a family-run business. Ordered just about 1 of everything they had to share. Overall the donuts were really tasty, and not too sweet. The custard filling wasn't too sweet at all (like most other places). Everything was fresh and tasty. Will come back next time I'm in town.

Yelp
Arguably the best donuts in America... A must have treat!! Pro-Tip: Get one that includes chocolate

Yelp
Marie's Donuts is definitely a Sacramento staple! You can't be from here or visit without stopping by to get some of the yummiest and freshest donuts! I've been going to Marie's ever since middle school. Their little stand is known and loved by so many locals and tourists! They always have the friendliest staff as well. You can't go wrong with any donuts they have here but I would say my favorites are their apple fritters and any glazed donuts. I'm not usually a fan of cake/old fashioned donuts because they tend to be dense/dry but I will eat Marie's because it's not dense at all! Their glaze isn't over sweet or thick which I love.

Yelp
Couldn't help popping by since I was next door. Love that this is an establishment that has been around since the 50s. It was also fun walking up to the window (as opposed to was liking into a donut shop. The donuts looked like typical donuts you might find elsewhere. There was only one that looked different. Turns out I was the same as an Apple fritter but different in texture. I'm not a big donut fan but this felt like a nice local experience. And who can say no to a donut!

Yelp
THE BEST! Yep, I said it. It's a south Sacramento institution. Been getting these for decades. Not as much as of late since our kiddos no longer go to the nearby neighborhood school. It's a no frills kinda place. Here's an easy decoder on hours. They're closed from 4pm to 11pm. Other than that OPEN! They have your late night to overnight to early morning to mid afternoon covered.

Yelp
We went back to Marie's for the first time since before the Covid shutdown and it was sill great. As I said in my prior review, it's a long-standing, old-fashioned doughnut place which has been around for decades, a wooden building with only ordering at the counter outside. The doughnuts are all excellent. The glazed and chocolate raised doughnuts, creme or custard filled doughnuts, and the old-fashioned doughnuts are among the best we have ever had. Texture and crumb are perfect, with a crispy exterior and an interior which is moist but not too moist, properly dense but not too dense or bready. 5 stars for the doughnuts and glazes. They have a nice fried-dough flavour and the glazes and frosting are excellent in taste and texture as well. I'd prefer it if they did a creme-filled chocolate as well as creme-filled glazed, but they have a good custard-filled chocolate. The custard is good but not outstanding. 4 stars.

Yelp
Best donuts in town!! Plenty of options and the service is great. Would highly reccomend.

Yelp
Marie's is a Sacramento donut staple. I found myself having a sweet tooth at 3am and drove right past Yum Yum for Marie's. I'm not sure what time they open, but I know they are open late night/early mornings and generally close at 4pm. Coming at 3am, I got super fresh donuts that were warm, soft and dare I say it....moist. I've tried other shops around this hour and I'm almost positive I've gotten the day before donuts, but this place never fails me to get fresh ones. There can be line at normal people functioning hours (I'm a night owl) so try and get there early to get all the good selection of fresh donuts.
google avatar

Ginger D.

Yelp
Sacramento staple!!! Yum!!! Almost always a line but so worth it! You can get a dozen doughnuts for under $20. Everyone who works here is so nice! Fresh, amazing doughnuts!
google avatar

Adam H.

Yelp
Had to pop out and show my peoples how good the donuts there are. A local sacramento classic and their service is solid. Honestly can't complain. If you want a fresh local donut then come here, if not head over to your local donut chain.
google avatar

Dave M.

Yelp
Marie's is always great! I've bought dozens of dozens of raised and fancy donuts for family and friends at work. Perfect frosting, super-fresh, usually still warm when I bring them in. They always have my favorite: chocolate crueler. If you haven't been to Marie's, you are missing out.
google avatar

Yelp
Marie's Donuts is an iconic spot in the a sacramento area. They recently got a bit of a refresh with a new mural on the back of their building- super cute!! They take cash and cards, though there is a little extra charge for using your credit card. It's all outdoors, you grab a spot in line and let the staff know what you want through the window. There's always a great variety available, including seasonal options. These aren't super fancy with all the bells and whistles and decorations that you'll find at some newer spots- but- they're classic donuts done very well. My favorite are the chocolate cake donuts, but everyone I go with has their own favorite. In my mind that means they're all good. Depending on when you go there may be a line, but they do a good job of getting through them quickly. The parking around here is also mostly street parking on the residential streets, but I typically find a spot pretty easily.

Yelp
I don't give 5 stars too often BUT this place... Walked up at 2am and we ordered a few items but I'm craving custard. They didn't have anything with custard filling ready but i had to ask and the person in the back said he can make one with a glazed donut for me. Omfg that's service! Quick, simple and got what I wanted! Yay for Marie's!
google avatar

Gregg R.

Yelp
My classic quick trip to grab donuts before work spot. Great place to stop for a mixed donuts and make all your coworkers happy. Really can't go wrong and really love just getting the mixed and trying the variety. Service has always been great and have never dealt with a long wait. Parking can be a slight issue but the crowded and cars move pretty quick. This part of land park is a great area and this location is just part of the fabric of the area. Staff has a great chill vibe and it's an all outdoor get up and go location.
google avatar

Yelp
Happy we picked up some donuts before heading up the hill.. We used to stop in on the weekends for the Apple fritters and the glazed. Never had any bad experiences or with the donuts. I love donuts! Thanks Marie's for serving Sacramento all these years!

Muoi H.

Yelp
Large varieties of fresh baked donuts! I'm a big chocolate cake donut lover so that's what's I got ! Light fluffy cake donut but lacking chocolate flavor ! I would definetly come back to their their others type of donuts ! Customer service was great!
google avatar

Teana R.

Yelp
These donuts are amazing sugar donuts and the glaze so good so soft and not to mention the warm and i love the hours they are open we came late one time and pleasantly surprised to see then open and have a variety so late
google avatar

Markus R.

Yelp
The location is great. It is in the Land Park-Curtis Park area by a couple other restaurants and businesses. It's right across from a light rail stop. It is also near the high school and the zoo/park. Their hours are a bit strange but that is probably normal for bakeries since they want to their inventory to be fresh for the morning crew. I like how they almost specialize in that late-night type of vibe. Pro-tip: they are actually open slightly earlier than their posted hours (can vary though) so they can be cash only from 11PM-12AM. Once they 'officially' open, you can start using a card. You order through a walk up window and you can see the baker making donuts in the back. They have a wall of donuts you can choose from that all look delicious. It's a very picturesque and iconic place to visit. This should be considered a token for Sacramento that all locals need to come to once in their life. The ambiance is phenomenal. Just great vibes. The employees are nice and you can tell the establishment is a family run business that has been handed down by the generation. You can tell a lot about an establishment by how they do their glazed donuts. It's a simple staple that you almost can't get wrong and Marie's does it oh so right. My donuts were fresh and warm. Slightly crunchy on the outside but very soft on the inside. You can taste the love that went into preparing the donuts. I've been coming here for years and will most certainly be back. The prices are affordable at around $2 a donut (depending on what you get). You can certainly walk out of here under $5 and satisfy your sweet tooth making this a ($) for me. You really get a good deal for the price. Bottom line/TLDR: a quaint little shop that is a must come for the late night crowd.

Yelp
I loved the strawberry glaze on the regular sprinkled donut but preferred the dough on the glaze donut so i was able to order it on a glazed donut and wow!! not only do the donuts look pretty but taste amazing!! super soft biting into it. The workers here are so sweet and the donuts are cheap. Will be coming back for sure !!
google avatar

Ann L.

Yelp
When only the best will do, this is the place to come for all your donut needs. Handmade from scratch with love every single day! The people here are among the nicest I have ever encountered. Always willing to go above and beyond. No photos here because I picked up a care package order to drop off for a friend. PS these really do make an excellent part of a care package.
google avatar

MJ V.

Yelp
Went around 2pm. There was no line. There were 2 workers. The friendly, young gal greeted me. Outside area was clean. They still had a few donuts left. I chose a maple bar, chocolate bar, raspberry filled powdered donut and sprinkle donut. I ate the maple bar and it was soft and yummy. My children had the other donuts and they said it was delicious.
google avatar

Francisco V.

Yelp
Marie's is my go to for donuts, I honestly can't remember the last time I went anywhere else. They are open late night/early mornings so it's perfect for midnight munchies or on the way to work. They have a nice variety and they are always fresh. My only gripe is parking. This place can have a line and parking fills up quickly.
google avatar

Danielle L.

Yelp
If you know, you know! This place has been a staple in the Sacramento area for years. Whether it's a donut, muffin, or bear claw that you want, they've got it. The lines tend to be a lot longer on the weekends, but trust me when I say that the wait is worth it. My faves are the maple and chocolate bars, the old fashioned maple, and their special pumpkin donut that they will have on occasion. The owners and people working there are always so kind and very quick. If I had to say anything negative, I would only say that the parking situation is awful for the amount of people that come here, but again, it's worth it!
google avatar

Mark F.

Yelp
Could have been a lot better. Donuts were all cold except for the glazed ones. I got there early, well early enough to think they would have fresh donuts. Nope, not fresh at all. The French Krullers tasted like a day old and I didn't like the blueberry donut and I've never been to a place where I didn't like the blueberry donut until today. These are going straight to the garbage. Update: Updated it to reflect how bad they were from two stars to one star. Absolutely disgusting.
google avatar

Angela A.

Yelp
Best donut spot in Sacramento hands down! Their donuts are reasonable priced and seriously always fresh! Great service and always friendly staff! They are usually busy but the workers are fast! I'm here at 11:30 am and they still have super fresh donuts on a Sunday afternoon! So many flavors to pick from! If you haven't had Marie's yet, you're missing out!
google avatar

Madeleine L.

Yelp
Good donuts, good coffee and good service. Had an old fashioned donut. Although it was cold, it was clearly fresh and had a slight lemony taste.
google avatar

Mark F.

Yelp
On the way back from lunch outside, Grandma insisted we stop to pick up 5 apple fritters on the way home, just for her. Maybe to share with friends later. Didn't ask. $2/each. Huge and best price in town! Raised 5 McClatchy High grads. Marie's was/is a memorable part of their high school culture. Of course Marie's Doughnuts are fantastic. Long live Marie's
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Marie's Donuts has great donuts. They are tasty, always fresh, and are a must if you are in the Land Park area. My colleagues always suggest, bring donuts from here, and rave so I had to try them!! The staff is friendly, they are always accommodating, and will assist you with exactly you are looking for. The only downside is the location. The shop is an an awkward location, parking is very limited, and the area is high traffic especially in the morning. I suggest going early to get a parking spot, beat traffic, and get some great donuts. I highly recommend Marie's their donuts and service are superb!!
google avatar

MsMrn D.

Yelp
This place has the best crullers. Tucked in a neat neighborhood. Awesome prompt friendly service. Tasty and delicious treats!
google avatar

Pritika C.

Yelp
Delicious donuts and terrific service! Some of my favorite things about Marie's is that they're open late, the sugar donuts are delicious, they take phone orders, and the staff are friendly (this is probably my favorite thing - seeing the friendly faces).
google avatar

Julie B.

Yelp
Marie's is a staple donut shop. They recently had a mural painted and made it a great photo opportunity with some sweet treats. There's a $5 minimum purchase for card payment, 1/2 dozen was $7.50 with card. There's some parking spaces in the front lot but no seating, however it's right across the street from a coffee roastery so convenient small business coffee and donut pairings! Also huge Apple fritters and friendly owners.
google avatar

Robin O.

Yelp
The best donuts in town and ESPECIALLY the best when they are so hot and so fresh! There is always a line but so worth it!
google avatar

Leslie T.

Yelp
I love this place! Fresh doughnuts and affordable price! The owners are always welcoming and gave a free doughnut!
google avatar

Annie Y.

Yelp
A local gem of a donut shop in Land Park! You got to love the awkwardly painted standalone building on Freeport Blvd. with a small window to place your order. Donuts are made fresh daily! As I stand in line in front of the glass window, ogling the trays and trays of donuts, I can't help but wonder how they make so many varieties. They have your classic donuts (glazed, chocolate, old fashioned, etc.) and fancier ones like apple bars and apple fritters. They got it covered! In addition to the donuts, I always pick up a dozen of glazed donut holes. Reasonably priced and open 7 days a week!
google avatar

Pritesh P.

Yelp
Folks now this is one of the best stops for donuts for my family.Friendly customer service with super fresh donuts from the oven.

Carleton F.

Yelp
Dad would pickup 20 dozen every day to sell at his Pardi Mkt grocery store in Dixon!! Customers loved them.
google avatar

Lisa W.

Yelp
Solid donut shop! It's been at least 3-4 years since my last visit, and this was a much better experience. There were lots of donuts to choose from at 11am, but they were all out of chocolate old fashioned. Like any donut shop, the earlier in the morning you come, the better the selection and the quality, although every one of our 4 donuts was top notch close to noon. They were fresh and delicious, and the fritter had that nice crunch on the outside. I love that you don't have to walk into a store - just walk up to the window and order. If there's a line, don't fret - it moves VERY fast. 10/10 will be coming back!

Grant N.

Yelp
Best apple fritter I've ever had! Very fresh. Friendly service. No dine inWalk up or drive through service only.
google avatar

Kenna S.

Yelp
Such a gem in Sacramento! My partner used to live down the street from here when he was a kid and would grab donuts all the time and the workers just adored him. When we went, they still remembered him after all this time! Wonderful staff, friendly and kind. Donuts are out of this world, so soft and flavorful. Wish I could have these all of the time!
google avatar

Vincent G.

Yelp
Best in the buisness for good ole fashion REGULAR donuts. Not those gucci maple bacon craziness here. Glaze, Old Fashion, Bars, fritters etc. You want real donuts? Here you go

Kathryn T.

Yelp
Best maple bar anywhere. I mean anywhere. Why does Yelp require so much verbiage to post a review?
google avatar

Lealand T.

Yelp
Hands down the BEST donuts in the Sacramento area. Their strawberry cake donut is only served on weekends, but it's worth the wait.

Bruce H.

Yelp
Old school donuts with the original tastes. One of the best donut shops out there that actually has donuts that are not overly sweat and use real blueberries for their blueberry donuts which are my favorite. They also have a special blueberry donut only for the weekend but order ahead or else it will be sold out before 11am on Saturday and around 1pm on Sunday. Line moves fast because it is a walk up window. The only issue I have is the parking situation can get a little crazy. I would ignore the people giving such low stars saying they are expensive even when they do have low prices. Most donut shops are getting expensive out there.

Big Daddy C.

Yelp
Solid selection. Fresh and tasty! Coffee is solid too. Please add cherry fritters on wknd. PLEAAAASSEEE!!!
google avatar

Sheila F.

Yelp
I've had this place bookmarked prior to moving out here from the Bay Area and finally got the chance to try it the other day. WOW. I haven't had donuts like these since I lived in the Bay Area. Definitely the best donuts we've had in Sacramento so far. I wish they had many more locations dispersed in the areas there does not seem to be very many donut shops where we live. They have a great selection of donuts, they produce large amounts so they did not run out of any while we were there. And, they are very efficient and have many people working to keep the lines moving. You can tell this place is an absolute gem. It's family-owned and when we visited they had MANY regular customers. They are definitely beloved in their community. I would look forward to making the drive over here anytime for these delicious pastries.
