This place is a staple! My favorite is the Chile Verde, eggs, rice and beans! And a bottomless cup of coffee ☕️! It's the best!

The waitress was amazing. Our food was cold when they reheated it and made my tostada fall apart. The shredded beef was absolutely amazing. The rice wasn't very good. Sort of bland tasted like oregano. The chili Rihanna comes out of a can. Very disappointing.. The lady at the counter was rude 😡 but our waitress was amazing.

Need breakfast on the cheap to get the day started? Then this is the go to for $1 bean and cheese burritos. Meat burritos are still a steal at $4 each (as of Oct 2025). They now have a cool little shed you can walk up a get burritos pretty quick. They start at 7am and run i think till noon? Not sure. Ive been there as late as 10am and they still sell them. Definitely at least a try it out once. Odds are it'll be on your go to list too. If you have e the time to sot and enjoy a plate of food, you won't be disappointed with the food otherwise cozy vibe.

Merced sure has a whole lot of Mexican restaurants, I was like a kid in a candy store..couldn't make up my mind which one to go to! So I asked around a bit, and learned a lot about a few of the favorites, but if you want the best burrito in Merced you got to hook up with Marie's Méxican Kitchen, and that's exactly what I did, and Iet me just say this about that huge burrito...it was Amazing! 5 stars all day long ☆☆☆☆☆

I went to the restaurant and I ordered as I always ordered every restaurant a steak burrito with everything on it and I asked the waitress what goes on a steak burrito she told me steak lettuce beans I I asked her did they serve peppers she say yes cook with onions I said I would like that And also sour cream. I did not ask for chicken on my burrito. I got chicken and very, very small diced up steak then the lady was arguing with me on the phone like I didn’t know what I ordered. It was a young girl that didn’t pay attention to what I said, and she talked real fast that I couldn’t really understand what she was saying she act like she really didn’t wanna wait on me, but the food is very good

Great Mexican food and also great service. It's hard to come across a place that can have both these days. The building it self is old but don't judge a book for it's cover. Should be considered a Merced landmark.

Really like this place! Been going there for years, the burritos they sell in the morning at their stand outside are fast, convenient and yummy!

Worst burritos I have ever had. Ordered 3 chorizo and egg burritos and they were not what I ordered. It was potato and sausage, no chorizo at all. Will not buy there again.

I was back visiting the area and it was morning time so I knew I had to drop by Marie's to grab some affordable burritos to have during a golf round. The to-go only burritos were still the same price as a couple years ago. $1 for bean and cheese, $4 for the breakfast ones, and $5 for the asada or chile verde. Each come with a small container of salsa which is a must have for the burrito. The burritos themselves are simple yet pack a lot of flavor. The chile verde is my favorite. Tender, flavorful pieces of pork, really tasty. The bean and cheese for $1 is an absolute steal. Solid flavor but I do wish they put a little more filling in. Overall, if you are in the area in the mornings and need a quick yet tasty and affordable bite, this spot is worth checking out for their takeout burritos at least

Homemade Mexican food at its best! Family owned and run. Friendly staff! Delicious food! HOMEMADE FLOUR AND CORN TORTILLAS Lovely decor and relaxed atmosphere. Locals love this place.

I failed to take a pic of my food but I got just a basic breakfast with scrambled eggs and hashbrowns. I loved being able to have chips and salsa with my bfast. Marie's salsa is super good and being able to put it on my eggs and potatoes was a bonus. Also of note is this is my dad's favorite breakfast place in Merced and he is notoriously picky when it comes to his potatoes and eggs. The owner came out to chat which was nice, although my dad is one of her favorite customers so that helps lol.

I recommend everyone and anyone try their authentic Mexican food! I mean it. My boyfriend decided to have costillos and eggs, ooh lala, spicy good! Tacos, tortas, and menudo on Sunday. The waitresses/waiters are all very friendly and customer service oriented. The ambiance is casual, and can be a romantic dinner too. While listening to Mexican music. Have fun and enjoy your day or night with family and friends at Marie's Mexican Kitchen.

I had the Caldo De Res plate. As I discover New Mexican restaurants this is my measure. I soup had plenty of vegetables squash, potatoes, carrots. It was a nice sized bowl. I added red chili peppers and oregano which seemed to take it to another level. Be forewarned it was very flavorful and warmed the soul you'll need extra napkins.

The food is good. The service however was awful. Came here once the lady that was our service was terrible. When we got seated she asked us what we would like to drink. My wife asked for a Soda. She never brought it. Never checked up on our table once throughout the whole time. If she did she would have known she never brought the Soda. We finished and she never brought the check. We got up and went to the front to pay, she still charged us for the Soda, although she never brought it. I obviously told her she never brought it and she removed it. Then she still had the audacity to ask for a tip. Hilarious.

Best breakfast burritos, and for cheap! You can choose from chorizo, sausage, bacon, bean, etc. Their salsa is also the best!

I knew when there was a line outside it would be a great Mexican restaurant. The food is not disappointing, I found my go to place when I don't feel like cooking! Such a cute restaurant, the service we received was top notch! Oh my God did I tell you how delicious the food was!!!!!! I'm very picky about Mexican food since my Mom's was the best! This reminds me of Mom's home cooked meals! Did I tell you their flour tortillas are home made! Highly recommend Marie's Mexican Kitchen

Wonderful old school experience and food! We were staying at the El Cap hotel and took a walk to get a sense of the neighborhood-saw this place and knew we were coming here for breakfast. Can't remember the last time I had enchiladas for breakfast and it was all amazing. He had the enchiladas (one cheese and one ground beef) comes with egg and beans. The enchilada sauce is the dried chilies style, not the tomato style, very good. I had Huevos a La Mexicana, which came with beans and either homemade flour tortillas or (for a bit more) homemade corn. I went with flour and they were delicious. The salsa had a kick, chips were ok, but the mains were the stars. I thought the beans were great, that more soupy style, very tasty. Staff was very nice, interior has a homey vibe, outside they've got a to-go burrito bar, which looked interesting. Was just passing through, but would take the time to return. Only open till 2, so plan accordingly.

I have not been here in years, but this restaurant was amazing the food was get, the service was amazing and the ambiance was quaint.

Rude. Spend $60 on mediocre burritos to go. I asked for a bag of chips and salsa to go. Other patrons sitting at tables all had chips and salsa given upon sitting. I went to parking lot to give the chips and salsa to my daughters in the car and they when I walked back in they said $5 for chips! I will never come back again.

Marie's Mexican Kitchen is a landmark restaurant that has been serving delicious and amazing cuisine in downtown Merced, CA for the last 30 years or so. It's a favorite restaurant of local Merced "foodies," especially those who are early risers, and enjoy a fine breakfast, just like you'd enjoy in a loncheria in Tijuana, Mexico. As you enter the restaurant, you'll be greeted by friendly staff, and seated at your table of choice. The dining counter dates back from the 1950's when this restaurant was "Hamm's Restaurant," which was a popular Merced diner during the 1950's to the 1970's. Too bad I didn't take photos "back in the day..." I would have preferred to enjoy my breakfast at the counter, and I wasn't pleased to see it encased with a plexiglass barrier, dating back to the COVID days. On that note, I took my breakfast to a friendly table... The first page of the menu offers breakfast, which includes some of the most authentic Mexican cuisine offered in Merced. Marie's Mexican Kitchen opens every day of the week at 07:00 for breakfast, so if you're a lover of a great Mexican - or American - breakfast... Marie's is "your" restaurant. From the "Breakfast" section of the menu, I went with "Steak and Eggs." You get your choice of hash browns or beans; I went with refried beans, as after all, I was enjoying breakfast at a premiere Mexican restaurant, located in downtown Merced. You can choose between flour or corn tortillas or several varieties of toast... I went with corn tortillas. Muy sabroso! "Steak and Eggs" is essentially "Carne Asada and Eggs," just like I've enjoyed during countless dining adventures in small loncherias in Mexico. My breakfast started out with a cut of carne asada, which is seasoned, marinated steak, thinly cut against the grain of the meat, and grilled to perfection. The steak was exactly like many steaks I've enjoyed during my travels to Mexico, so if you're looking for authentic carne asada for breakfast, Marie's Mexican Kitchen will be your restaurant. The steak was tender, juicy and made for the perfect "main event" for this amazing breakfast. Refried beans for breakfast? Oh Yes! ... refried beans are a breakfast staple at any Mexican loncheria and refried beans are on the breakfast menu at Marie's Mexican Kitchen. The beans were creamy, delicious, cooked in lard - just like in Mexico - and simply delicious, and made for an outstanding side dish to this enticing breakfast. Hash browns are offered on the breakfast menu, in case you're not interested in getting your day started with refried beans as your side dish. The breakfast includes two eggs fried to your choice, and I chose sunnyside up, as I like to begin my day, along with my breakfast on a cheerful note. The eggs were fried as ordered, and truly made for a great part of today's breakfast adventure. The menu offers toast, which is always great, but you're dining at a Mexican restaurant, so why not go with tortillas? Flour or corn tortillas are offered, and I went with corn tortillas. All tortillas, both flour and corn are made in-house, from scratch, and are made by hand, by the talented staff. I found my corn tortillas to be simply AMAZING! ... they were warm, fresh, and had the "earthy" taste that only a freshly made corn tortilla can provide. I've already talked about the corn tortilla chips and salsa... and the Pacifico Mexican beer was for dessert, and the frosted mug made my breakfast worthwhile in every way. Mexicali meets Merced at Marie's Mexican Kitchen, as the breakfast was identical to the same breakfast you'd enjoy if your were dining in a loncheria in Mexicali, Baja California. The breakfast was simply delicious, as the steak was cooked to a moist and tender juiciness, the eggs were fried to order, the beans were flavorful, and the fresh corn tortillas rounded out this delicious meal! Truly a breakfast to remember... How many Mexican restaurants do you find in Central California that are open daily, from 07:00 to 02:00 in the afternoon, with a menu that showcases a full array of Mexican breakfasts? Marie's Mexican Kitchen is a Merced icon, and truly a unique Mexican restaurant. Every day of the week, enjoy a delicious Mexican breakfast, with menudo served on weekends, at Marie's Mexican Kitchen, located in downtown Merced, CA. Absolutely amazing Mexican food. One of the best in town. Our go to place for breakfast on Saturday morning. The staff is always friendly and attentive. Definitely one of our favorite places to eat.

My family has been coming to this location for over 40 years. It has changed owners a few times, but it has always remained a place of nostalgia and delicious to me. My first choice for Menudo in Merced is here. It is flavorful, substantial portions and the tortillas are hand made. I ordered guacamole for the first time and it was absolutely made fresh when ordered ... it was obvious, because we needed to add more salt. I like knowing it wasn't scoped out. It was FRESHLY made. My husband go to is the nopales and eggs. He sticks with his favorite items here no matter what time of the day. If cleanliness is important to you like me. You will feel comfortable here. The staff are always busy but friendly and welcoming.

Excellent pick-up service. Delicious burritos with house-made flour tortillas. Salsas are also yummy with a zingy kick.

This is my third time here and every time the food is excellent service is fast and waitresses are very friendly, I would say this is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Merced. I still need to go back to try the famous enchiladas !

What a wonderful little Mexican Restaurant. I've always known about Marie's Kitchen, however even though I lived in Merced for five years it took me moving away and visiting back to try it out. We stopped in today for some breakfast, I had a traditional Chorizo burrito, which I love. They also have a little stand out front(cash only) for some grab and go burrito's.

So, had a biz meeting last week and my supier asked for Mexican food. Haven't been here in a while, easy to find, figured WTH. Service was good but candidly, the food was just OK. I got a carne asada quesadilla and my Vendor ordered a chicken enchilada plate. Both were flat tasting and needed salt. The quesadilla was small and had nothing but cheese and meat, no accouterments. The enchilada was the same, sauce was good though. I'd say hit up a taco truck and save a few shekels and get better food.

Okay, was on a business trip to Merced and skipped out on dinner the night before. My co/worker and I knew that we were not taking breakfast at the hotel so we searched Yelp and decided on Mexican breakfast over a regular diner. We scoped out where our next audit was taking place first then looked for breakfast. We were thinking breakfast burritos and then just breakfast because of the time eating establishments opened. Marie's Mexican Kitchen made the very short list of establishments serving breakfast around 7. I got excited when we drove up and there was a line of construction workers and medical workers outside the door. I got nervous because I thought maybe they were not open....but no...Marie's had a line for customers getting breakfast burritos. Okay, you know it has to be good for the number of people in the line and if you see construction workers, it's going to be the bomb! We walked past the line and entered and automatically I knew. Chips and salsa were sat on the table and I tasted the salsa and it was on. We were served coffee and I knew I wasn't getting a breakfast burrito, I was going all out full Mexican breakfast. I ordered the machaca and eggs which came with my choice of hot tortillas and refried beans. I was in heaven! My co-worker ordered the chilaquiles and they were done right! While we were there this man came in and picked up an order of burritos. His total was $64 and it looked like there were over 25 burritos in the bag. I can probably live without seeing Merced again, but Marie's Mexican Kitchen is definitely worth a stop!

Very, very good food here. A must stop for great service and great Lunch menu. The staff is very friendly and patient, they will suggest and help you if you are uncertain about a menu item. You cannot beat the prices either, great location right on Main Street. Did I mention, they are one of favorites?

I really like this place when I crave enchiladas and eggs for breakfast. Their tortillas are homemade and the service is always super friendly. The coffee is decent and they have a burrito counter in front that serves up super fast pre-prepared burritos to go. The bean and cheese one is so cheap it's ridiculous. I think it's a buck fifty. Come on now. You can't beat that!!!

All of the star aligned for me to try this lovely restaurant. I was in the area, hungry and it was before 2pm (did not know they closed at too). When you walk in it's small but cozy. The staff was amazing and the food was very delicious!

One of my favorite places to go in Merced. The customer service is great and the food is very good.

I don't know if this is a family owned restaurant, but they have a waitress that I have gotten when I go and she never get it right. I first she looks like she don't want to be there, so she took my order I told no ice on my water she brought my water with ice. Then I asked her for some hot spicy sauce for the chips and she bring the chips, I had to ask her 5 minute later for the other sauce. Then my wife asked for her coke when she brought us our food . My wife was half way done with her food before she brought the drink. Then we are eating and she did not bring napkins I had to go and ask for napkins. Been there a few time like the food but service is no good. I figure your job to to give good service, but that why I think they might related. I only put one star because I could not post this with out putting at least 1 star

Not sure how this place has good reviews... it's dark and musty inside, the server was rude to us. The prices are high. The food took way too long to come out and wasn't even hot when we got it. I ordered the enchiladas and got food poisoning. I got so sick from this place, I will never go back.

We stopped here on our way home. The breakfast was great. Food was fresh. The most authentic Mexican food service was great. We would definitely stop by on our way home again.

If you want some good authentic Mexican, stop in here. Their enchiladas remind me of home. Their green chili and eggs hit the spot when you've got the craving. And the grab and go burritos in the morning outside can't be beat, I mean come on, $1 for a bean and cheese?! Amazing.

So delicious! They were a bit busy but still helped us with smiles and apologized for being busy. The food was amazing and tasty! It taste just as if it were cooked at home and the mole I had was bomb! 10/10 recommend!!

If I could leave zero star I would supposedly this food was supposed to be good NO!!! The salsa was so hot can't even eat! Even the food was spicy I couldn't even eat either!! The beans where so watery like they add water to extend the beans so they have enough for their customers. The flour tortillas where terrible really hard and rough!! The hash browns ughh everything DISGUSTING IM NEVER GOING THERE AGAIN I CANT EVEN UNDERSTAND HOW THEY ARE STILL OPEN!!! Other Mexican restaurants much better than this absolutely terrible!!!

I've been coming here since it was Sinaloa back in the early 80's. I've thoroughly enjoyed it, then Covid hit. Staff has come and gone. The tastes have changed. There's no longer a consistent enchilada sauce. I have beautiful memories oh Maria's from the past. Their other food is still good, however it was the enchiladas that brought me back decade after decade. I'm a big fan of their tacos, Chile Relleno's and Spanish omelettes just to name a few. I keep the five stars because I'll not let Covid destroy a restaurant due to changes that were forced on so many businesses.

This is one of those gems that I love to find. On the outside you would probably just walk by as it's in a very old building. But the inside looks super clean which is very comforting. This restaurant should be called Micocina because it feels just like my kitchen. I gave them the ultimate challenge, I ordered the chili Verde, and almost always I get let down on this dish. For some reason people think salt should be the number one ingredient, but not this restaurant. These guys know how to make a chili Verde that isn't all salty. It was very tasty and the rice and beans were good, and the homemade tortilla was noticeably above average. The staff was super nice, the home made table salsa was excellent. I will come back here again and try some new stuff. I was told the enchiladas were good and I'll bet they are!

Stopped for breakfast, almost didnt because of the reviews but glad I did. Quick breakfast breakfast Burritos. Chorizo qas ordered by my son and ge gave it two thumps up. I ordered Macha and its was packed with flavor. Very inexpensive.

Decided to try for dinner as we have had the breakfast burritos before and they're chili verde is pretty good. I loved the inside decor of the building the seating is spacious. It felt homey like my Grandma's kitchen! Our waitress was nice and attentive. We ordered Marie's Big Burritos (their wet burrito) and carne asada fries. The burrito was delicious. I ordered mine with chicken and the chicken was really good, shredded chicken breast. The portions were huge and prices were good. We all left full and happy! We will definitely be back

Amazing Food everytime I'm here! My go to is the Menudo! The service is Great very welcoming Ladies & the atmosphere is great! Thank you & keep up the great work.

The ambiance and service were nice unfortunately the food fell short of great but rated good. I would try it again if given the opportunity. We tried the menudo and a plate of chilaquiles with breakfast potatoes. The potatoes were a little undercooked and needed a little salt. The green chilaquiles were tasty if you like the flavor of tomatillo. The menudo needed a little salt and more flavor. Maybe it was just an off day.

I was meeting a new business owner to go over photos and eat lunch here. He lives in town and likes it a lot, as does his brother, who joined us. Everyone seemed very friendly and a couple of women told us to sit at any unoccupied table. We sat in an empty section where I could get the computer out to look through the photos. The menu was full, but I didn't see everything--we were distracted by 900+ photos. The woman who waited our table asked us for a drink order, and I learned that they had Piña Agua Fresca, so I ordered that. Later, I asked for a carne asada taco, ground beef enchilada with red sauce (there is a sign outside about the enchiladas), rice and beans. She brought chips and salsa. The chips didn't seem to be fresh or warm, but handmade still. Considering that it was around 100 degrees F outside, I knew what warm was. The salsa was good. The food didn't take a long time. It was hot and good, but not great. I really wanted it to be great, especially the enchiladas. The enchilada sauce was very, very good. Unfortunately, none of the tortillas seemed great and the taco's (medium-sized) tortillas were not freshly fried. I'd give it a 3.5 star rating, if that was possible, because of the service. However, they didn't offer us refills on our drinks, even though they were $2.50 each. Update 2016.02.16: Went into the restaurant about 7 p.m. The back area was closed and no customers seemed to be there. The waitress was friendly and I sat at the counter, which is pretty much where I like to sit in restaurants. I ordered D-3: two enchiladas with beef and red sauce, and a Mountain Dew. She brought chips and salsa, a place setting, and my drink right away. Probably obviously, the food arrived very quickly. This time everything tasted very good. I'm not sure what happened the last time but these enchiladas were very good and of course, the sauce was very, very good. The tortillas were not at all limp or soggy in any way, and they had a good flavor. With everything, it was a bit over $13, which is a bit much, even with rice and beans, compared to the SF Bay Area, but keeping such a good restaurant going is worth more.

Marie's is must when looking to enjoy a Mexican home cooked meal! You can truly taste the love in their dishes! The restaurant is in its original spot which exudes vintage charm and the interior is absolutely adorable decorated with beautiful bright colors and art! I've never had a meal here that I didn't like. Today I had the chicken enchilada lunch (highly recommend) and my daughter had the Chile Colorado plate. Our meals came in a very reasonable amount of time and the waitress was a sweetheart! I'm planning to go back for breakfast next time! Fun fact; There is also a stand outside where you can pick up a quick bite to eat for those on the go! The only thing that I would like to see changed is that perhaps they stay open a little later for the dinner crowd.

The food was not bad. We ordered two enchiladas with rice and beans as well as one Jamaica and one Horchata. The Enchiladas was not bad but could be a little bit better. The Jamaica was really good!

Fast and easy breakfast. Just go up to the cart and you can get a quick breakfast on the go. They also serve single canned sodas to go with your burrito. Definitely recommend.

if you love Mexican Cantina food, it is worth getting off Highway 99 to eat at. Or if you're local and haven't tried them yet. The place is incredibly clean, the food is insanely hot, not spicy, which is a huge plus and earns four stars on that alone. We will definitely come back here.

This is the second time I've been here! The first time I thought, "Hey a pink Mexican restaurant - let's try it!". For some reason, I've had positive experiences in pink restaurants. Anyway, had lunch here today. The refried beans are yummy! Home made, and the rice is tender - not dried out like I've experienced at other restaurants. They are known for their enchiladas, so I had one with shredded beef. Basic, but delicious. Greg ordered the chile verde burrito. Made with pork, the flavoring comes across as authentic. Every employee there was female! You can tell which customers are regulars too. Some of the male ones like to chat with one employee in particular - we noticed her the fist time we ate here about two years ago! Next time we do a road trip down 99, we'll drop in again!

Went there twice recently, and I ordered the chorizo and eggs with beans and flour tortillas. The chorizo had good flavor, and I liked the beans. I also ordered a pancake, which is not something I would think would be on their menu. They are my favorite by far, just delicious. It is the reason I went back a second time. The service was fast, and the workers were friendly.

Save your money. This place is not good at all. I could of made better Mexican food at home. Beans where awful and they had a sign in the front door " Hiring Cook no experience necessary " No Wonder !!

First time visit this afternoon for lunch and it was a good one. Great service and nice decor. Excellent enchiladas, rice, & beans. Decent price and our waitress had fast service even though it was starting to fill up. My beer was in an ice cold bottle served with an ice cold mug and it went well with my meal. Hubby & I will be back.

Sooooo good , came to Merced for vacation, so was looking to eat Mexican authentic food. Found them on yelp so decided to give them a try . Their posole & menudo exceeded my expectations! Had to go Back the next day to eat more . Told all my family that had also gone from out of town and they also went to try it out and loved it .
