Yelp
Let me preface this by saying my rating is based more on customer service - versus the food.
Intro / History
Saw mouth-watering photos on social media. Decided to pick up food for us (including J and his daughter) while I was in the area.
Interior / Exterior
Parking can be a bit challenging because there are a LOT of other businesses crammed into this plaza. Didn't really move past the bar area but the restaurant appears to be spacious with a few large rooms aside from the main area. The seats at the bar were a bit closer than these hips liked, but most people should be fine. Lol.
Customer Service
When I first dropped in, it was 3:30pm. I had perused the website / menu previously - and knew what I wanted, so I was confused / surprised when I didn't see the desired items on the menu. I asked the bartender and she explained that they only offer a limited menu, daily between 3 - 4pm while the kitchen transitions from lunch to dinner. I've never experienced this and there's no mention of this on the website, so I'm writing it here to give others a head's up. I decided to run my grocery errands and come back. I went to Kroger's and Mums & Pups - the ladies at Mums & Pups said the food was very good, described it as elevated bar food - but told me that the wait could be a little long.
I came back after 4pm and placed my order. I did notice that the 2 hostesses could stand to be a little more welcoming. They were fine with me - but I noticed them being a little condescending and snarky with other guests. And they did that weird thing where even though there were 2 of them - they would never speak to guests independently. So, if I'm standing there waiting to ask a question, hostess 1 is talking to another guest, but hostess 2 won't step aside and speak to me, instead - she stared and scowled at the guest while hostess 2 was talking to her. Then she stood there silently and listened to their whole exchange. Maybe one of them was training the other one, but it felt really inefficient and it created a sort of awkward, mean-girl dynamic for the guest(s).
The bartender was extremely friendly. She acknowledged and greeted everyone as soon as they sat down. Provided complimentary cups of water and she was SUPER patient with me and ALL my modifications. Lol. She moved quickly and efficiently.
Food
I ordered:
Front Porch $10 - (chicken breast) toasted sourdough instead of bun, plain, add lettuce, tomato, mayo
Truck Burger $13 - toasted sourdough instead of bun, cheddar instead of White American cheese, toppings on the side, add lettuce, tomato, mayo
Kids Chicken Tenders & tots $8
The Front Porch was fine, not super filling. They forgot the mayo, so it was a bit dry.
The Truck Burger (ultimately refunded) was a bit of a debacle. Instead of putting the toppings on the side. They put the hot patties and lettuce in one box. They put the untoasted sourdough bread in another box. I had to ask for toasted bread, pickles & secret sauce. Later, I realized that they used white American cheese instead of cheddar, so J couldn't eat it.
The kid's chicken tenders included only 2 tenders, but the portion of tots was pretty generous for a kid's serving. At first glance, it seemed like 4 tenders, but the 'other 2 tender' were just blobs of fried breading. Tator tots are already seasoned, so the generous portion of coarse salt, made these a bit hard to eat. I snagged a few while driving - so it saved me from eating them all. Lol.
Price / Value
Ok. So. I don't know if this is Covid-pandemic-supply chain-inventory scarcity-thing. Or a Whitlock Ave thing. Leases ARE insane in this area, but I was kinda surprised to pay $14 for a burger with no sides. My chicken sandwich was $10, no sides. And honestly - it was NOT a lot of food.
Overall
Even though I didn't have a great experience, I appreciated the owner's genuine response and actions. I think they have some bugs to work out, but we'll be back when J is all healed up and we're able to dine in.
