Just finished a fabulous weekend getaway at Keswick Hall and dined at Marigold for our anniversary dinner and two breakfasts. Definitely have mixed feelings about our experiences here.
Ambience: 5/5 cozy, great views, beautifully decorated without being pretentious
Food: 4/5
Favorites: warm shrimp salad (flavor bomb!), lamb shank (wow), cocktail/mocktails, dessert
Average: tuna tartare (not very fresh) , seabass (overcooked, same flavor as your average asian restaurant)
Service: Initially 4/5, later 1/5
Service for our 1st night's dinner and breakfast #1 was good. Staff was overall attentive and offered good recommendations.
Day 2 breakfast was absolutely disappointing for a restaurant of this caliber.
We were given complimentary continental breakfast for 2 adults at Marigold as part of our hotel package with Hyatt. Included is coffee, juice, and "assortment of pastries." We weren't expecting anything extraordinary since this was free, and paid for an additional egg/protein dish since we had a long 5 hour drive ahead of us. What was brought out as the "continental breakfast" was a small salad plate with 3 snack sized pastries: 1 mini croissant, 1 mini chocolate croissant, and a small piece of fruit bread. (keep in mind, the day before, we had the same breakfast with double the pastries so each person can sample their own). When I nicely asked the server for an additional mini croissant, she said "this basket is meant to be shared between two people, if you want extra, you have to pay for an additional continental breakfast." I was flabbergasted. I again asked if she meant ordering continental breakfast for TWO people (normally $32) means sharing this small plate of 3 mini pastries. She looked at me dead in the eye, and said "yes, whatever is in the basket is meant to be shared, if you want any additional pastries, you'll have to pay extra."
I did not expect a restaurant of this caliber to be nickel and diming us. Especially when we were here celebrating our anniversary and have already dropped a few hundred dollars at the restaurant the day prior. We weren't asking for a free drink or a fancy breakfast, merely to not have to tear each bite sized pastry at breakfast. At least cut it in half if it's truly meant to be shared! It wasn't even so much as not having the pastry but the mere attitude of the server that was truly disappointing. This truly left a bad taste in my mouth, of what was otherwise a beautiful weekend at Keswick Hall.
I later clarified at the hotel front desk, yes, they should have at least served double the pastries as this was suppose to be breakfast for two people.
