The 20 Best Spots In Northeast Philly

"This takeout-only deli has two locations in the Northeast, Mayfair and Woodhaven, and you can get some of the best hoagies in the city at either. All of their sandwiches are must-orders, but we’re big fans of The Brous Avenue. It packs pork, provolone, lettuce, and roasted peppers on a long and soft Italian roll. It’s large but not messy, so you won’t need every napkin in the paper aisle at Target as you scarf it down. What you will need is your phone nearby, since you’ll be texting everyone about it in all caps when you’re done." - candis mclean

Google
I love this place. My mom used to take my sister, brother & I there when we were younger. We've been going there for a long time. They've always made GREAT Hoagies. Very nice staff and pretty fast! One stop shop for a great lunch or quick dinner ideas. They have fresh steak for a quick cheese steak dinner, great desserts, Stromboli, meatballs, red sauce... The whole nine. The hoagies are fat and they have those great seeded rolls! Very enjoyable place! Highly recommended!

Google
I love this place fir their food and always had a great experience until now so that's why I still rated it a high score. The woman who answers the phone is so rude . She was annoyed from the second she answered to the time she hung up. Kept interrupting when she asked questions then started having conversations with other people while on the phone.I don't usually write reviews but customer service is a huge part of their business. Hopefully they were just having a bad day and it's not a normal thing.

Google
Primo hoagies on 6600 block of Frankford take debit cards in case you wouldn't happen to have cash in your pocket. This place only takes cash that I know of or Apple pay but I have a Google phone 🤑. Good clean place, no bathrooms, parking curbside but you can go around to the back and park at the China Market. very expensive but they put a lot of meat on this thing you will get the itis so share your Hoagies LOL

Google
Been patronizing this place for over 20 years at the original location and this is one place that has stayed consistent with amazing quality, great selection, nice staff, and fair prices. $9 for a “half” sandwich may sound like a lot for some, but they are HEFTY. Will normally get one hoagie to split with someone or eat half for one meal, save the other half for another. Can’t beat it!

Google
I love Marinucci's chicken salad. I tell anyone with ears to order and try it. I serve it at parties. I placed an order yesterday through an app for a chicken salad hoagie, and received someone else's order. This is the 2nd time in a few months they did this. The woman on the phone tried to lie and say my delivery person picked up the order amongst a bunch of orders himself, but I spoke with him and he insisted that the store workers were the ones who were passing out the orders to the drivers. Then the woman changed her story and said they did hand the bags to the drivers. The lady on the phone was rude and didn't seem like she cared at all that they messed up and wanted me to go to the store to pick up a replacement. No thank you. You all messed up so you should fix it by having one of you staff deliver it personally. The lack of professionalism and accountability from these people have me rethinking ever ordering from here again.

Yelp
Superb hoagie experience! Seeded roll, freshly sliced meats, sharp provolone and roasted red peppers. Staff was helpful and shop was clean.

Yelp
Ordered delivery through Grubhub a couple of times. Probably won't order from here again. I ordered a bologna sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and mayo on white bread. The bologna was not good, the sandwich had too much mayo and they should have used leaf lettuce, not shredded. Evidently, they only use Dietz & Watson meats and they are not my favorite to begin with, but for bologna you need a more specialized German product. That said, Oscar Myer is better than this. lol I could only eat half of the sandwich. The potato salad was okay. My husband ordered a roast beef special on rye and it was so sloppy he had to take it apart and reassemble before he could eat it. He didn't want cheese, but you HAVE to choose a cheese on Grubhub so I did but added a comment to say NO CHEESE. There was cheese. Why allow comments if you don't read them. The last criticism was that there was not a pickle with the roast beef special. I don't think I have ever been to a deli around here that doesn't give you a pickle with your sandwich! All around not a good experience foodwise and there are way too many other places to choose from.

Yelp
I've been working up in the Northeast now for two years and I've tried my fair share of delis in the area around me searching for perfection. I've had a couple of hits and misses and I realize the hits for me have certain things in common. It may have taken a while for a Marinucci hoagie to land on my desk but it finally did and it was special. I knew this place was pretty legendary and it's for good reason. First of all the half is a damn whole. You'll only need a whole to share or for leftovers because this jawn is packed!!! And I like the way it was made. The roll, perfect, the meats sliced thin, the lettuce was shredded, the onions were also paper thin helping me tolerate their presence because I usually don't get them but they go well with the Italian meats. Speaking of Italian there was also a peppery spread on this sandwich that gave it a kick. I definitely need more Marinucci's in my life.

Joan L.

Yelp
Best hoagie & sides. Service is excellent. Like that i can order lunch meats sliced. Like their catering & delivery. Thank you.

Yelp
The customer service, AMAZING !!!! From the time Denise took my order till it was time to pay. You can tell they're family oriented, enjoyed their job and made sure every customer in the store felt welcomed. I'm new to the area as a Practice Manager but I will be treating myself weekly to buy a hoagie, cake or chips from them. The prices are reasonable and well worth it. I highly recommend but don't all run there at once, I only get 45 minutes for lunch. I thought my neighborhood had the best, this place blows them out the water. Lunch meat fresh, roll fresh and the garnishes, even more fresh. I can't say enough about this place. I was told the owners mom is the once who calls you when your food is done and collects the money, she so sweet. I didn't care what she charged me, I was paying...lol #loyalcustomer

Yelp
Had one of these DELICIOUS hoagies at a birthday party!!! If I didn't live so far away I'd be ordering them and eating them everyday . All the ingredients were perfectly balanced; I didn't have to add seasonings! Roll was sooooo fresh--all the ingredients were fresh! I can't comment on the service--or ambiance because this was on the menu at a party; but I definitely give the food a THUMBS UP!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I would give zero stars if I could for the customer service. Apparently there's a policy where they won't put tomatoes on half sandwich but no one told me that when I ordered so when I picked up my $60 worth of hoagies, there was a bag of tomatoes on the side. I explained to the person at the counter that I wantEd tomatoes on half the sandwich and not on the side; and I asked her if they can put them on the sandwich for me before she rung me up; and they told me no "they don't do that" but they gave me tomatoes in case I wanted to add them on. So I left. i'm not paying someone for a product that is not what I want. If I wanted to make my own sandwich, I would; which moving forward, I'll do before I ever come back. Used to be neighborhood spot that had amazing guest service. Guess they don't need to care about the people that supported them over the decades anymore.

Yelp
I only been here twice and each time the ppl here are nice and the food is always good, definitely not a disappointment.

Yelp
These are some of the best hoagies in Philadelphia. Personally the Italian is my go to, I just can't seem to go with anything else. The rolls are phenomenal (I always go seeded), the meat is perfectly thin, the cheese has some flavor and the vegetables give enough crunch to perfect every single bite. Lettuce, tomato and onion (white onions not red), some vinegar and oil, salt and pepper and oregano...I'm in heaven. The staff is always great (and helpful if you're confused on what to do). They get busy during lunch so either order ahead or be patient. Go with the 24", it'll feed you for a while and these things hold up well in the refrigerator.

Yelp
We Love this place! Fast service, clean establishment, and fresh products! Good pricing for hoagie and sandwich trays for all occasions!

Yelp
I hadn't had a hoagie from Marinucci's in over 20 years until a recent Eagles tailgate (thanks to Phans of Philly) brought back some tasty memories. In the late 90's/year 2k, Marinucci's was a regular visit by myself and co-workers. Those hoagies were so packed, the guys would remove some of the lunch meat and save it to make lunch for a couple of days! I remember them being the size of a football and not being able to wrap my mouth around the roll to get a bite. Good memories and they always had great prices and the nicest people behind the counter. I stopped in the other day for a repeat and the place looks pretty much the same as I remember. You order on the left side of the deli counter, wait until your called and pay to the right side. There was an army of staff behind the counter cutting rolls, slicing meat/cheese, building the sandwiches and wrapping them tightly. It's a beautiful sight! The inside has chip racks, shelves with snacks, coolers with drinks, desserts, sides and a retail Dietz and Watson condiment rack. On this visit I went with The Nucci - Our classic Italian hoagie with prosciutto, sharp provolone and roasted peppers $11.60. I got mine on a seeded roll with lettuce, tomato and light oil/oregano. Their rolls are different than most you'll get, they have a toasted honey grain flavor with a slight sweetness to them. It's very distinct to me. Meats were capicola, peppered ham, salami, pepperoni, prosciutto and sharp provolone. The roasted red peppers sit on the bottom and were delicious. I'm really glad these guys are recognized as one of the best hoagies (some say legendary) in Philly. They were excellent back in the day and still are so they've certainly earned that title. I promise I won't wait that long to visit again! Marinucci's is a rare example of getting great service, quality AND quantity for an outstanding price.

Yelp
Always the best. The only thing is, they put a little too much meat. I don't wanna have to crack my jaw open to eat a hoagie and if you ask for light meat, they give you nothing off, which is kind of ridiculous. That's the most expensive part of the sandwich, but all in all I just take a little bit off and make a sandwich later with it and it is one of the best hoagie places in the northeast.

Yelp
Went with the Gracie Marie today with a cream soda. I ate half for lunch today and probably the other half for lunch tomorrow.

Yelp
ABSOLUTE 5*****ACROSS THE BOARD. I have been going here for more than 15 years and have referred all family and friends. Never a bad moment.

Thomas J.

Yelp
i order on Grubhub the hoagie seen to be premade i ask for seeded roll and receive regular roll . i order 2 hoagies only received one but grubhub did credit The missing item. The quantity of meat and cheese seem to be less they used to have an excellent Nucci hoagie.

Yelp
Consistent in quality, quantity and service! The staff is always welcoming and friendly. I love a place that gives you lots of options. They have sandwiches and hoagies. You can get Wheat, White, Rye, PoppySeed or Plain Kaiser, Steak and Club rolls. You can also make it a wrap (choice of Tomato, Spinach, Wheat or White). The rolls aren't too thick where it taste like it needs to be scooped out. I always order the Half which is 12 inches and that's plenty for me. If you want to share it have a hoagie that you can eat off of for a few days upgrade to the 24 inch. My favorite go to is the corned beef with the Italian blend cheese on a seeded roll. The meat isn't salty tasting, it's always fresh, plentiful, sliced nice and thin so it's always tender and never chewy. Deeeeelicious. My husband loves the corn beef topped with prosciutto. The prosciutto is a little too salty for my taste but it's a great choice if you're a fan of prosciutto. I have no real cons about this spot other than for some strange reason if I order delivery I can never get the kettle chips I requested, instead they send the plain chips. Even after placing the other online and calling to confirm that they will send the kettle chips, I still end up with the plain. I know they sell the kettle because I'm able to pick them up when I visit the store but I don't know what to do to get them delivered. This spot is still 5 star regardless!

Miriam P.

Yelp
The Nucci is top of the line hogie. The flavors make you so happy. I highly recommend Marinucci's and the Nucci, you will love it.
google avatar

Theresa M.

Yelp
Like my husband said today - Now that's a Philly Hoagie! We don't live here now, and I come home more often than he does. So, when he does come home, he looks forward to all the tastes of Philly. I chose Marinucci's today for the hoagies, and we were both very happy I did! He loved the Italian Hoagie and I enjoyed the Grace Marie Hoagie (Turkey and Ham). The rolls were fresh, stuffed with ingredients, and big enough to share or save some for later. I've been to this location multiple times and have always enjoyed my food. They are also great for catering - Check them out, you won't be disappointed! Staff are always friendly and helpful when I go, as well. For a small store, there are plenty of items to choose from. A real deli! And, plenty of street parking, too!
google avatar

Ty C.

Yelp
This is an excellent diner in the heart of the best of Northeast Philly! I've found that when it comes to diners, the service can make or break it, regardless of how good the food may be. Well, fortunately, this place excels in both! The ambiance is comfortable and homey. Give this place a try. You won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Wendy C.

Yelp
Hoagie paradise! And I thought that wawas had good hoagies... These hoagies are amazing! They come really loaded with meat and lettuce. I was surprised on how big a half hoagie was (12 inches). I also got a potato and egg salad which was okay. They also offer desserts and you can grab your own pickle from the barrel. I really enjoyed my hoagie! There is plenty of street parking on the street as well as a parking lot behind the store which is used by the Asian businesses around. Although this is mostly for take out, I did see that there was outdoor seating.
google avatar

Delvia W.

Yelp
Heard of this place and was in the area and starving so I decided to give it a try. Parking: Street parking in a residential area so pack patience. They have a patio for outdoor seating but it didn't look like it was open. Service: Order takers were pleasant. Food: Bread, meat and toppings are fresh. Only issue was that I asked for extra mayo and got home only to find that there wasn't hardly any mayo on my sandwich; anyone who loves a sloppy hoagie with the mayo dripping out the back, knows how hurt I was. I don't like using the mayo from home on my hoagie; it just doesn't taste the same as the deli's mayo. Drink: lemonade made by dillonades. The drink has fresh fruit. $6 for 16ozs though. Overall I enjoyed my experience and will definitely go back.

Yelp
Always good Lots Of meat and the rolls are Always fresh Their chicken salad Is the best especially the one with the walnuts

Yelp
The hoagies are always fresh, the employees are nice, and they play good music. My favorite hoagie store.
google avatar

Mike Z.

Yelp
Great sandwich. Go get 1. There is no better sandwich in the area. Got 1 to go for later that day.

Yuh H.

Yelp
hands-down, the best hoagie in the city from quality to customer service. I love everything about this place

Rodney L.

Yelp
The very best in sandwich and Hoagies in the northeast you can get Dietz&Watson lunch meat there to all ways good and fresh.
google avatar

Patricia K.

Yelp
First time ordering from Marinucci's, we ordered hoagies for pick up. Pick up time was 15 minutes after placing our order. We order a Italian and two turkey hoagies. We were waited on right away and everything was ready. The hoagies were very good. The roll and meat were very fresh and was plenty. We will definitely will order again.

Lily L.

Yelp
The best hoagies which are chock full of lunchmeat. Not crazy about the extra $1 charge for seeded roll though. FYI, the Mayfair store hoagies have much more meat in their hoagies than the Woodhaven location and it's worth the longer drive to Mayfair for the difference. They really should state that pickles cost extra.
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
Was going through my old reviews, and saw my 4-star for Marinuccis, and wanted to right that wrong. My one and ONLY knock on "Nuci's was that the building was small and claustrophobic. Well, since my review, they have actually updated the store, and made things a little nicer and open. (As open as they can anyway; it's not a dine in spot, so how much room do you need?) What's even more, is that I've NEVER had a even slightly unpleasant dining experience eating here. Their hoagies are the gold standard, and it's not even really close. Marinucci's is the Hoagie King, and the 5 stars are well deserved.

Yelp
On the same square as 1st Asian Supermarket in Mayfair, Philadelphia, in a corner brick two story, stands Marinucci's Deli. Those of you familiar, already know that it is a high volume higher quality Italian hoagie gold mine that creates stuffed sandwiches loaded with Dietz & Watson meats and cheeses, and a few signature pieces. Those of us who haven't been there before yesterday now know that this place is a legendary Philly landmark (30 years in this location) that turns out among the best Sammies in the city. I stopped in after a heavy afternoon of food shopping next door, and ordered two "small" 12" torpedos with Rare Roast Beef & Provolone and Roast Turkey & Swiss, both dressed with lettuce, tomato, mayo, oregano, hot & sweet peppers. Both To Go. Weighing in at about one pound each, we tore into the roast beef on the drive home. It was spectacular! The meat was fresh and tender, the provolone mildly tart and dry, that combined with all the accessories for a dynamic and delicious bite and chew. The best way to attack this zoftig big boy was with two hands and aggressive squeeze and stuff into the mouth, just like with a cheesesteak. We tag teamed it, my partner holding it in front of my face, while I grabbed with one hand and directed it into my mouth. It only worked at stoplights, but a couple of large bites did the trick. No fuss, no muss. Only a sesame seed from the roll jumping off the bread onto my lap before slipping to the floor. The Turkey & Swiss was just as good. Top flight ingredients and delightful eye opening taste. Both were good for two meals apiece, so we finished them later that evening with good brew and jalapeño chips. Marinucci's is one of those Philly joints that leave a lasting impression and a strong desire to return whenever in the neighborhood, which fortunately is about once a month. The corner of Brous and St. Vincent is a true destination for everyone seeking variety in their low budget culinary exploits. Vietnamese, Chinese, Boba and Marinucci's all in one square of Mayfair is a foodie's dream come true.

Joe B.

Yelp
Best hoagie in the area. The Mayfair location is head and shoulders better than the others.

James S.

Yelp
Great hoagie. Very fresh! Wasn't your run of the mill lunch meat but real turkey. Nice ripe tomatoes too

Xantha A.

Yelp
Amazing hoagies!!! I did a search beast hoagies in the northeast and they showed up we went and tried and have been faithful customers!
google avatar

Judith W.

Yelp
ambience of the small sandwich shop is that a Philadelphia. The smell of Philadelphia deli the pickles, the potato chips potato salad, desserts. A fine collection of local sodas, and an extensive menu. The services quick polite and patient. I love this place.
google avatar

Felicita M.

Yelp
This place always has a line when I buy from here. Their sandwiches are always fresh and taste delicious. They're very generous with their portions. For my Gluten issue I just get the hoagie without the roll and they put in a container for me. We love this place.
google avatar

Ms. Critic T.

Yelp
Highly annoyed, my order was wrong. The white guy at the front was annoyed and had no customer service, no eye contact. I tried to ignore the treatment when I went there on several occasions, but its not just me. They way they treat white customers and black customers is different, period. The cashier barely wanted to touch my hand. He dropped the money into my hand from a distance. No one there has any customer service.
google avatar

May T.

Yelp
Yo, these hoagies are THICCCCC AF!!! I was craving an italian hoagie (as I mostly all the time do) and happened to come across the Marinucci's listing on Yelp. We couldn't help ourselves and ordered "the nucci" and the regular italian hoagie. Opted for the "half" (12") for both hoagies and was thoroughly and happily surprised when we picked them up. The bag itself was hefty AF...these half hoagies are at least a pound each! We split the half of the nucci and nearly wasn't able to finish our half of the half! The hoagie is full of meat and flavor. Slap on a few hot banana peppers and you are more than good to go! Highly recommend this place - definitely my new fave italian hoagie spot in this city!
google avatar

Lorraine B.

Yelp
This is take out only but, the sandwiches are great they really pack them. You can call ahead and place your order or, do this in person. Lunchtime is very busy.

Jeanette C.

Yelp
Excellent food delicious. Courtesy employees. Food made to you. No issues fun family
google avatar

Joshua P.

Yelp
Want a really good hoagie jam packed with meat & cheese? Look no further! They make one of my favorite Italian hoagies in the city. Worth every single penny considering how much they give you! If you live around here & you're not visiting here when you want a hoagie then you don't know what you're missing. The staff is usually super friendly & welcoming. The shop definitely gives you a mom & pop feel-warm, inviting corner store type vibe. You can tell the people there care about the place they work & how they make your sandwich.
google avatar

Apephanie P.

Yelp
One of the best hoagies I've had in a while. I just kept talking about them to anyone who would listen lol. The wait wasn't long at all I waited about five minutes after ordering. Parking is on the street so it shouldn't be an issue to find a spot. Hoagies are pretty big. Definitely big enough to share if you're not starving but even after that still shareable. I cannot wait to return to get another one. Not much to say but try one!! Pretty small spot that sits on a corner block.

Kat A.

Yelp
My favorite Sammie spot. The hoagies are always so meaty. The people are pretty nice and the desserts are good :)
google avatar

Natalie S.

Yelp
Good hoagies but sometimes they are not prep in a clean way. The staff be eating and talking over your food. They also don't change gloves after. Done don't even where gloves.
google avatar

Dennis F.

Yelp
No doubt this is the best deli in Philly. It is very clean and their food is always fresh. I've never had anything bad here. If this place is anything, it is the benchmark to all other delis as to how they should look and operate. They are expanding their locations so that should show you how good they are at what they do. If I can offer a suggestion, open up a Marinucci's in Bridesburg in the old Lachowicz's. You guys will do very well there. Bridesburg can use a good deli!

Yvette D.

Yelp
Restaurant is very clean. The food is delicious and always fresh. Sometimes parking can be a challenge.

Tiara B.

Yelp
My co-worker told me about Marinucci's months ago but due to their hours and my work hours timing has been difficult, but today I finally made it! And it was WELL worth the wait! The prices are a little higher than most but typically quality products are. The seeded rolls are my favorite, super soft, sweet and delicious which really compliments the sandwich as a whole. Just some critical feedback to offer; there were traces of turkey meat on my veggie hoagie, assuming because the cheese was maybe sliced on the same slicer as lunch meat, maybe consider making a change to the way items are prepared to avoid situations like that not only for customers preference but also certain allergies. That's the only reason I didn't give 5-stars. Anyway, I will definitely be back!

Melissa S.

Yelp
The hoagies are great. The meat is always fresh and rolls are perfect! You may encounter a bit of a wait but it is worth it.
google avatar

Daryl G.

Yelp
They ask you what you want on your sandwich you say everything..They don't tell you it's extra so after your sandwich is made they yell out your name then ask would you like any pickles peppers??....Im confused these toppings come on a hoagie or sandwiches when you say everything...Just cause it's your business how can you decide what goes on my sandwich after it's made...And i was charged $7 for Tuna on rye and that only had about $2 worth of tuna on it nowhere near filling or satisfying i will never return here nor recommend this place
google avatar

Nikki C.

Yelp
A Philly goal of mine is to always have a good hoagie spot in every part of the city just in case I need it. Marinucci's is my NE one for sure! Love the good customer service. When I looked in the back there were like 10 people rolling out hoagies and making sure orders were pushing through. That's what I'm talkin bout! The inside has your usual corner store gems: tastykakes, chips, iced tea, etc. Parking may be dicey but it's a residential area so you should be okay. I'll definitely be back!
