"Yes, Mariposa is a restaurant in Neiman Marcus. However, it’s also a popular lunch spot among locals who make a ritual out of the complimentary popovers, lobster club, and Ala Moana Beach Park views. A beloved chef recently took over the kitchen, and the food’s never been better, specifically the kiawe smoked pork chop and pan-seared salmon ochazuke with risotto that’s finished with green tea. Come for the sunset lounge menu, Thursday through Saturday, when you can have that same salmon ochazuke, along with the garlic chicken sliders stuffed with mac salad that’s basically a plate lunch in sandwich form. Good luck eating it neatly under the cathedral ceilings and palm fans in the elegant open-air dining room." - Martha Cheng

First time visit to the ‘sunset lounge’ before going to see the Waikiki fireworks. Patio looks out over Ala Moana Park and while the Blvd is quite busy with traffic, the restaurant is high enough (3rd floor) that it fades to background white noise as you enjoy the fantastic sunset views. Service was friendly and attentive and the food was great. We went with sharing several small plates: lobster rolls, poke, truffle fries, shrimp, and hamachi ceviche, all of which were delicious - we couldn’t pick a favourite. Cocktails were also good, particularly the brother’s sour, which was served in a tall glass (I was expecting more like a NY sour in an old fashioned glass) but still very good. The only disappointment would be the desserts - nothing wrong with the cheesecake or chocolate-macnut tart, just kinda ‘meh’ when compared to the other food we had. Being at the mall there is PLENTY of parking! All in all, enjoyed it and would go back - I think it’ll be a good place to take visitors, especially on a Friday - either before the fireworks, or if you go a little later, to watch the fireworks.

First I want to say the front desk for dinner service was exceptional! The two gentlemen and the tall lady who run the front with a very friendly and gracious manner, were a delight. Smiles on arrival and warmth on exit. Service is without a flaw! Attentive and swift. Server was around when needed and the server assistants filled the gaps. The view from the lanai can’t be beat! You get to enjoy the sunset and fireworks on Fridays; both were a spectacular display. However the lunchroom vibe cannot be ignored. Big open space with tables make you feel like you are in high school, prison, retirement home or any combination of the three. The place that the edge was lost, was the food! It was just ok. Lacking any notable flavor, every dish was very bland. In fact, it reminded me a lot of hospital food. No fun textures, just mushy mushy mush mush cafeteria style food that is easily forgettable. Noticeably, the quality of ingredients, you can tell they cut corners wherever possible to maximize profits. The drinks were also extremely weak and disappointing. Stick with water. Or a tiny $10 glass of beer. I have no intention on going back although the view and service were pleasant, the lack luster menu and dishes we tried, left nothing worth dipping back into. Glad it’s busy and popular, not sure why.

Just found my new go-to spot! We had the salmon ochazuke (so yummy and flavorful), creamy corn chowder, pumpkin gelato, and affogato with choc chip cookies – and yes, they’ve got decaf! Drinks were on point, and our server made the whole experience top-tier. The complimentary chicken soup and bread was a nice touch! If you’re into good vibes and even better food, this place is a must. Full vlog review is up – check it out for more details! Oh and free parking at the mall! 10/10

Far exceeded my expectations! The service was impeccable! Raymond, our server, was exemplary and significantly contributed to our enjoyment of our experience with his attentiveness. When we couldn’t decide between two desserts, Raymond immediately brought us both to look at! And he never let my ice tea get more than 1/4 empty! The food was easily one of the best of our trip to our surprise and delight. The warm popover is a unique and fun way to start our meal. The scallops were the most delicious of our trip (including San Francisco and Hawaii). The restaurant and view is a lovely haven and we look forward to our return!

Lunch date with a friend. This is located in Neiman Marcus. The view is beautiful and very spacious. The decoration is simple and very nice. We shared crab pasta and it was nothing special. We also ordered fries and it was delicious (better than the pasta). Ordered a Vietnamese steak salad and the ration was off (small amount of thinly sliced steak and way too much greens. I am huge fan of their popovers and it was perfect. Definitely worth the a try at least once. Please share your thoughts.

Getting to the restaurant was a little bit of a process but the hostess was incredible. She met us in the mall and showed us the way since the regular entrance was now closed. To start the special bread they make in house is out of this world it’s like a croissant and french toast had a baby and they give you a strawberry topping to go with it. We ordered the lemon pepper shrimp as a starter and it was delicious. The shrimp were large, and the sauce was incredible. I ordered the salmon and it came with risotto, I savored every bite! My friend ordered the Kobe Steak - it was not bad but the salmon was definitely better. I would definitely come back again.

The food is delicious and well prepared, the ambience is casual yet upscale in terms of quality of service. The server was friendly and quick to get us settled at your table with popovers accompanied by strawberry butter which tasted delicious. The food came in at the right temperature and tasted delicious. The dessert had real eatable flowers which was a nice touch. Overall great value! Love it!

Love the popovers and corn soup. Had a great dinner on Thursday with excellent service from Scott. Went back with friends on Saturday evening and had great service from Scott & Laurence. Both times we all enjoyed our meals and the live music.

Yelp
Every visit five star! Start out with super attentive and efficient service by John and partner. Had a nice stop over by Server Yoon to greet us as one in our party knew her personally. Our group of seven enjoyed everything from popovers and a palate cleansing consumme, appetizer to cocktails to most memorable entrees. Bu the time we got to dessert service we were just too full to order anything. Thank you Mariposa for making my friend's birthday celebration a special one with a gifted slice of deeelucious macadamia nut pie (I know delicious as she shared with entire table! ). Thank you Yoon for the thoughtful and tasty appetizer! Mariposa, where I enjoy dining when celebrating!

Yelp
I've been to Mariposa many times over the years for impromptu lunches, business meetings, pau hana fun. . .even goodbye parties and galas. I was so sad to see the recent changes. The staff, as always, were spectacular. The popovers still come with the whipped butter and are handed out without hesitation by the same friendly servers. The menu and the food changes are awful. I arrived with my boyfriend and two friends for an early dinner around 5 pm. We were celebrating and catching up before the UH game. We went to the website and looked at what we were planning to order, but were shocked when the new menus were handed out. These menus were not the same ones on the website. First, the size of the menu, hardly overwhelming to begin with, has been whittled down to maybe a dozen items. A few salads with two options to add a piece of salmon or a piece of chicken. One person in my party was so confused, she thought the side protein order was an entree and asked what it came with. There was then a choice between risotto, a whole fish and something else. I was completely perplexed. The whole fish was described as coming with pickles and some sort of Vietnamese vinaigrette. . .there was a cheeseburger and a chicken sandwich. That's it. Two of the items on the menu of 12 included truffle. I hate truffle, so I went with a house salad and salmon. One friend did the same. My boyfriend and another person in our party got the fish. The fish looked awful. It was a whole fish, supposedly seared, but it looked unappetizing and flaccid, with a tiny cup of pickled onions and another cup of what looked like herb sauce. No sides. No starch. Nothing. Is this Hawaii or what? The two guys asked if they could have two sides of rice. The poor server said, she would have to ask the new chef who just "revised" the menu two weeks ago. The chef said no. So, they guys, desperate to wash the taste of the fish down, decided to order the risotto. They ate about four spoonfuls. The salmon was fine. The green salad was fine. My coffee at the end was the best part of the meal. Our friends took us out here and they spent an insane amount of money on two salads and two boiled fish along with a couple of desserts and coffee. I am not sure who the new menu was designed for, but I can tell you that it definitely does not have local people in mind. I'm not even sure if it has visitors in mind. There seems to be no synergy, presentation, variety, or thought to what is being served. I used to go for the crab salad, the beautiful consomme starter, fabulous fries, magnificent ochazuke. . .and even the tasty seafood curry. I came for the view, the music, the popovers, the service. More than anything, this change makes me sad. I mourn the time that I had and know I will never eat here again.

Yelp
I took my hubby here for his birthday in November. I loved it so much that we came for Valentine's Day. Luckily, we had reservations for lunch as they were packed solid. I wanted to do dinner, but they had a special pre fixe menu that didn't offer the laksa curry that I wanted. I could only get it during lunch, so here we are. The popovers with the strawberry butter are just divine. I had two, lol. We shared a bowl of the corn chowder $11 and it was delicious. I got the seafood laksa curry $38 and the hubby got the wagyu cheeseburger $24 with fries $5. The curry was great as usual. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't use the big manila clams like last time and used the small clams instead. The hubby said that the burger was just ok. He actually didn't finish it. The service was top notch as always. You can't go wrong dining here.

Yelp
Mariposa never fails. Sunday lunch was perfect. I love the relaxed feel overlooking Ala Moana beach. Service attentive and efficient. Of course the usual popover with Strawberry butter along with a delicious savory cup of Consommé was served first. I tell you this is so comforting. Best part? You can have more popovers if you want! Ordered the Waygu Cheeseburger and fries and the seafood Laksa curry. Of course since we're brunching cocktails are a must. Cheeseburger flavorful and nice portions. Laksa curry had a nice spiciness along with prawns, scallops, clams and salmon. Mixed with julienned veggies and a nice broth. Dessert saved for next time.

Yelp
Girls after Christmas Luncheon. Reservations made on Open table so convenient. Drove up the Ramp on the Ocean side thats by Mortons, drove to the right past entrance for Neiman Marcus and parked right in front of the elevator that will take you right up to mariposa. Gorgeous views on the patio, delicious pop over. Prices are a little more expensive, but the view and ambiance are great for girls lunch or a date. I had the Chicken Milanese, pretty delicious. My other friends ordered the beet salad and ahi salad. Both looked appetizing and large portioned. Service was a little slow but the guys refilling water were really prompt. Great restaurant having both indoor and outdoor seating.

Dianna R.

Yelp
Perhaps it was a bad day because I remember the service being better in the past. My party was seated against the windowed wall and the sun was quite hot. They also did not listen to the request to split the check. On top of that, we needed to ask for another pop over and one of the people had their order forgotten. Occasionally we inquired about the menu, but the staff would just walk away. The food was so-so. Their dessert and soup were wonderful, but the main dish I had that comprised of chicken and couscous fell flat. Very little couscous and the tomato sauce that went with it was overpowering. It wasn't offensive, but it was just not worth ordering again.

Michi S.

Yelp
As always the service is top notch. Our waiter was attentive and checked if we wanted to eat more popovers. I love popovers with strawberry butter and their consume soup. It is flavorful and tasty. I love the ambiance and decor in the restaurant. I usually order the lobster club but it is getting pricey so decided to try the Waguburger. Burger was juicy and cooked just right for my preference.

Yelp
Having lunch with my hubby. We love to do our date over here. Just make reservations on OpenTable. We love all the food options over there. Why I like coming here because they don't rushed you. You get to enjoy your food and do some catching up with friends and family. The view is the plus. Don't forget on Friday they offer fireworks. Pretty nice there. My favorite is the scallops and Louis salad. Don't forget to try the pop bread and order plantations ice tea. They also do parties here. On 2020 November. My mother book 40 of my close friends and family for my 40th birthday there. Customer services is great there.

Yelp
Another amazing meal here. The service is great, food amazing and view is the best in town. We had the braised duck and Vietnamese salad. Their signature chicken broth "tea" is great as a starter. Highly recommend if you're in the area. Nothing better than a great meal with ur beautiful woman.

Yelp
Some things never change...I had forgotten what a gem of a spot this is! Swung by here on a whim my last trip back home late summer and have to give it a late shout out. The Sunset Menu now covers all of 'dinner' time here. I think they in turn reduced their hours...so come early! We arrived as soon as they opened and it was perfect. The view, the leads up to sunset hour. The comfortable seating, the solid service. My parents are very particular but even they admitted it was one of the highlights of my trip. Everything we ordered was divine (for a party of 3, our server helped steer us int he right direction with the 'musts': *Corn Chowder *Lobster Roll *Garlic Chicken Sliders *Fries *Macadamia Nut Tart *Cocktails: Sparkling Pineapple martini and Mango Mint Colada Of course accompanied by the famous warm popovers, solid service, and just an overall VIBE. Big fan.

Yelp
Great place to come with your family and have such a beautiful dinner with a great sunset view. I came here to celebrate my girlfriend birthday dinner with her family; the food was good. The service was fast and friendly always making sure we were happy with our experience. I ordered the wagyu burger, it was delicious and shared appetizers amongst each other.

Emily D.

Yelp
I took my family here for a family birthday dinner. We enjoyed the waygu burger and steak frites, both of which were delicious. We also had the truffle fries which were addictive. The scene was relaxed (I loved all the fans on the ceiling) and there was a beautiful view of the ocean at sunset. I removed one star for the service. Our waiter seemed distracted and hurried and forgot to bring one of our items. Overall, we would come back! The service didn't ruin our experience compared to the food and atmosphere.

Hope S.

Yelp
First time back in a long time. I love the large dining area and option for indoor or outdoor seating. Reservations easily available. Service is good and very attentive and friendly. Food came out fresh and tasted delicious! Ordered the wagyu burger and fries. Nice place for lunch or dinner with family/friends with a variety of options.

Dan T.

Yelp
My favorite standby for lunch. Puff turnover and consommé started the palette flowing. Ambiance was lively and upbeat. Server was very polite and service was spot on. Scallops were perfect and guest enjoyed the cheeseburger. Kona coffee gelato was a great ending to another perfect meal!

James L.

Yelp
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Been super busy with work and school and never really had time to spend with my family and friends. I had a lunch break that day for 30 mins, the server Raymond was an exceptional server always double or triple checking on our table making sure we were receiving our food in a timely manner and if the food tastes great! The food was amazing, it's always perfect at Mariposa! The bread is phenomenal and the soup was perfect temperature. The burger was a perfect medium and had a good bite to it with a refreshing salad on the side. Crab pasta was so delicious with real crab meat and pasta cooked to perfection! The outdoor vibes was definitely the vibe and gave a perfect Hawaii atmosphere! On for a beautiful date? Take her out here!

Judy C.

Yelp
I've been to Mariposa many times throughout the years mostly with friends, co-workers, for lunch gatherings, retirement celebration, baby shower, and birthdays but with the other half maybe a total of 3 times. Our work schedule does not work out and sometimes I feel bad if I dine there without him. This Mariposa review is for my most recent visit, my lunch date with the other half. As I was looking back at Facebook memory photos of our last Mariposa lunch, which was close to 10 years ago, I text the other half and we set a date so we could both request off, officially its a date! hehe. I called to make reservations on the day of our lunch date and luckily we got a last minute reservation. I remembered a spontaneous visit to Mariposa, the way for table was over hour which we couldn't wait. They close for lunch so last call is close to after 2:30 pm. Our favorite table is outdoor, love the outdoor view Ala Moana Beach. It could get hot but it was fine by me. The inside seems more loud and has more food traffic. My favorite and I am sure everyone's favorite is the Popover! & I can eat more than one! I really need a popover fix once in a while. This is the one reason I miss Mariposa so much. Besides the popover, I always. Always order the lobster LBT sandwich, ( @marketprice) and corn chowder. I always want to try the other menu items but I can't give up on the lobster BLT sandwich. * lobster sandwich is not available during Sunset hour & dinner. I saw an Instagram post for the pork chops which I really want to give it a try next time, I will have to do a back to back visit, hehe. During this recent lunch date, We got our usual order: corn chowder, lobster BLT, macadamia pie and their signature plantation iced tea. The corn chowder is tasty and they use Kahuku corn. The BLT, loved how serve the lobster chilled with the good stuff, bacon, avocado, roasted pepper, on a sweet bread. Biting in to that sandwich was OMG, wow! I love the plain fries! First time we tried the macadamia nut pie and brought back memories of Angelo Pietro days. Loved the crispy crust and macadamia nut, love that it wasn't as sweet. I really enjoyed the plantation iced tea, don't forget to order it with a shot of vodka on the side. My favorite Mai Tai drink! Besides pigging out on the popovers & our meal, We were super stuffed! The wait service and waiter was just great, before he closed our bill and said goodbye, he mentioned "I hope to see you back sooner, not another 10 years" All in all, I always LOVED my dining experience here, definitely can't wait to be back again! Reservations are recommended, look for the popover guy to request for more popovers & just enjoy!

Claire H.

Yelp
I love having lunch here! I always look forward to starting our lunch with popovers and consume! Their Plantation tea is so refreshing with the pineapple and guava juice. Today my sons ordered the Ahi sandwich and we all shared the Hurricane Seasoned Fries. They liked their sandwich and said they would order it again. I ordered the Pasta Crab. It's a little spicy but still delicious! Service is always prompt and courteous!

Verna A.

Yelp
I recently visited Mariposa for a client meeting, and I have to say, it's one of the best places to hold a professional gathering. The servers were incredibly attentive, refilling our waters every 15-20 minutes, which I really appreciated. One of the highlights was the complimentary bread--it was delicious, and they offered refills, which was a nice touch. I ordered the scallops, and they were simply outstanding! The dish came with mashed potatoes topped with their signature soup/sauce. The flavors were perfectly balanced, not too rich, which is just how I like it. I'm not usually a fan of mashed potatoes, but these were exceptional! We chose to sit outside on the balcony, which offers stunning views of the ocean. It was a bit hot, but the breeze made it comfortable. The setting was just wonderful, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. Overall, I had a fantastic time and would definitely come back again. Highly recommended for both business and leisure dining!

Myra G.

Yelp
The food is always good. Service was on point! We were seated I. The patio! It was beautiful and it was nice to celebrate my friends birthday Mariposa. I love coming here, it has great food, great service, and a wonderful view.

Ray L.

Yelp
Super busy lunch today at Mariposa but we managed to get a table in some relatively short wait. Joey was our server and provided top notch service for us. The food came out quickly, good temperature and delicious.

Brie S.

Yelp
Mariposa is a fabulous lunch spot located in Neiman Marcus. It's a beautiful open air space with natural wood interiors and a lovely outdoor terrace with sweeping views of Ala Moana Beach Park. The menu is elevated with a wide array of soups, salads, sandwiches, and upscale entrees such as a braised duck leg and crab pasta. I am a seafood lover and opted for the crab pasta that exceeded my expectations. It was so flavorful and jam packed with crab. The spaghetti was cooked perfectly al dente. The service was wonderful and their team was very attentive. This spot has a lively atmosphere and was bustling with a large lunch crowd. Make reservations on OpenTable to avoid a long wait time. My friend and I had such a great experience today and it remains consistent with previous visits. I'm shocked Mariposa doesn't have higher ratings on Yelp!

Cammie M.

Yelp
Their menu was delicious and I enjoyed their ambiance The staff was extremely helpful

Zaira C.

Yelp
I recently dined with my mom and sister for the first time, and it was a pleasant experience overall. I enjoyed the complimentary and flavorful chicken broth with bread! The only ask I have is for the menu book, cutleries, etc. to be checked before setting it up on the table; we had to ask our server for replacement, which they were swift and apologetic about. Little things like that are fixable, so I'd still recommend dining in. It's also understandable because we were seated outside where some factors are out of the establishment's control. Other than that, the food was amazing! I highly recommend the Salmon Ochazuke. It was very flavorful, light but satisfying. I think they're a reservations only food establishment, but it wasn't busy when we dined in. Two ways you can enter Mariposa: through Neiman Marcus and the side of the building where a door with their name hanging. Take the elevator up that leads you to their little liquor storage area.

Fran P.

Yelp
I took my friend out to lunch for her birthday, and I didn't realize how busy they were, so I did not make reservations. The only seats available were at the bar. Well, what a lucky turn that was! Alex was such a joy! He could not have taken better care of us, or treated us more like queens. Although the food was great, I would go back just to see him again! :)

Sherene H.

Yelp
Been here before but first time since covid. The menu has changed completely and the prices have gone up. I used to get their pasta with goat cheese all the time but now it's not there. The popovers are consistently delicious though with their strawberry fluffly butter. The restaurant has indoor and Lana is seating facing the ocean. I ordered the lobster club and didn't know it didn't come with fries but it was delicious! Definitely a cute place to come with friends for lunch or brunch! Tif you're lucky you can get a beautiful view of the beach as well! Service was prompt when we had 15 people. We preordered our food so it came out quick! There is a time limit even with a huge party though. They are constantly busy! They even made a vegan dish for my friend.

Keala P.

Yelp
The managers are awesome and very polite to my staff when they visited for my bosses birthday. Everything was preordered and ready when they arrived. Excellent services.

Milton K.

Yelp
Prior to Covid, I would conduct business lunches at least once a month at Mariposa. My clients liked their salads, popover and selection. This was my first time back, since Covid began four years ago and very little has changed. Like all restaurants, prices have gone up and I noticed that they're not as busy as they used to be with a line at the door. We decided to share the crab pasta and the salmon ochasuke. Our waiter was very nice and had the kitchen split it and placed them in separate plates. He asked us if we were celebrating anything and provided a complementary slice of their macadamia pie for my guest's birthday. As always, service was excellent, and the food was good. You now have a lot of choices at Ala Moana. Mariposa will be on the pricier side. Yelp
This review is for their laksa curry. This hands down is my favorite place to get laksa. The tiger prawns and scallops were poached perfectly just the way I like to eat them. Service is always fantastic and 5 stars.

Yelp
Service-5* Ambiance-5* Food-4* Been here several times. Great service and nice to look out at the ocean while dining. Will be back.

Yelp
Excellent upscale bistro located in the Neiman Marcus in Ala Moana Center. I've been here a couple of times with my wife and her family, and the food is always excellent (along with the service). The most recent time, I got the pulled pork sandwich, which was delicious -- also came with a crudite salad, which tasted very fresh. We also got a side of truffle fries for the table -- the first batch came a little lukewarm, but the waiter cheerfully took it back to the kitchen and came back with a piping hot order (which tasted great). Besides the food, another highlight is the view -- the side of the main dining room facing Ala Moana Blvd is open to the air, and affords a lovely view of Ala Moana Park and its beach. If you can get a table right by the railing, do it -- it'll make you enjoy your meal even more!

Ric C.

Yelp
"A long time ago... in a shopping center, in Honolulu... It's been a long time since I had last visited the Mariposa. The food and service was always great, it was always a higher end alternative in the AMC. So recently in 2023, on a whim, we decided to have a late lunch when we found out tables were available. After parking our car, we took the elevator at the Ewa/Makai which took us to the 3rd floor and the restaurant. We had the crab salad, the corn chowder and the Mariposa punch. A simple, light meal to tide us over for dinner. The crab salad was balanced nicely and the corn chowder was delicious. The punch definitely quenched the thirst. The food was delicious and the service spot-on. We would definitely be back when doing a "long" shopping expedition at Ala Moana Center.

Lorene P.

Yelp
Delicious plantation iced tea and holiday special king crab pasta. Server Hunter kindly split our Laksa curry and Mariposa Chopped Salad . The Mariposa burger was as its usual finest and huge accompanied by veg sticks and seasoned hurricane fries. We ended w their Affogato prepared with Illy exoresso and vanilla gelato and a scrumptious baked-to-order Chocolate Chip cookie w ground coffee beans. We appreciate Hunter!!!

Yelp
Six ladies gathered for lunch to celebrate and honor our dear friend's birthday. Filled with delightful conversations and laughs. High ceilings and spacious seating are ideal for group get togethers. Choice of indoor and outdoor covered seating. Popover: First complimentary popover served made a great impression! You're able to enjoy a perfect popover with chicken soup served in a tea cup for savory moment or whipped strawberry butter for sweet tooth craving. Second complimentary popover offered and graciously accepted toward the end of my meal appeared darker on the outside while inside was definitely undercooked, custard, egg texture. Crab Pasta: One of their specials served for lunch. Absolutely loved the fresh crab served generously and evenly proportioned to enjoy with hints of spiciness that didn't overpower taste buds. Our server engaged in conversations with us. He checked to see, offered water refills and anything else we needed. He served complimentary Macadamia Nut Pie for our birthday friend. Majority of us tried a small bite. This is the first pie I've seen that featured macadamia nuts galore. Scrumptious, crustless and paired well with light whipped cream. Ideal for macadamia nut lovers. Be prepared for menu and dessert options change and vary from time to time. Restrooms on site. Quite cool to take a private elevator directly to third floor.

Naoto U.

Yelp
It's a good place to have a nice business lunch. One of my favorite places. The pricing point could be a bit high for lunch, but considering the view and the quality of service and food you get, you cannot do much in Honolulu. Their lobster club sandwich was excellent today.

Jerry E.

Yelp
It has been a few years since my last meal at this fabulous place. Very pleased that it has markedly improved for the better, including more than a few familiar & popular dishes. Ordered their plantation tea and it was spectacular and the best part was unlimited refills; fantastic deal! Really amazed by their superb staff whom provided unparalleled services, notwithstanding the place was pretty packed. Their seafood curry and the pork chop were marvelous, and of course, their famous complimentary baked good continued to be unrivaled; had two servings and still could use another one. No doubt that we will return again down the road.

Jason Y.

Yelp
Decent service and tasty cocktail, but sadly the food fell extremely short. They had an "off the menu special" steak dish. I was asked how I wanted it prepared and replied medium-rare. The orders were repeated for accuracy and I heard the same. Upon receiving said steak, it was obviously WELL DONE. Not even close to the order. It was also already sliced, so the cooking had stopped and the kitchen sent it out knowing damn well it was nothing close to the correct temperature. Pics don't lie. Flavor was great, but damn it was dry.

Yelp
Hi, We are such regulars at this restaurant. Last time when we were so disappointed at the changed, limited menu that we left a review on Open Table. I saw there was a vip mark next to our review. What I am trying to say is we dine in here that often. 1. Last time we had a whole fish dish. I've never seen that awful looking whole fish at any restaurants we've ever dined in. And the taste was terrible and so fishy. That dish even attracted flies I've never seen at Mariposa. 2. Since this is our go-to place we couldn't give up here. So we tried again. The new chef added some extra dishes which are still not that attractive except for the original dishes. We ordered Mariposa salad with salmon. Really?!!! Do you guys really want to put your name on this salad? Just some of the leafy vegetables and tiny piece of salmon which had no taste. And the dressing also was disappointing. Your chop salad used to be fantastic! I honestly think it's unethical to charge that price on that poor quality salad. Let alone the fact that portions got smaller. I saw one gentleman had salmon ochazuke. That one's portion got way smaller than before. The burger was the only safe dish we could order so we ordered it. I asked medium well but it came with something between medium rare and medium. It already took so long but we had to wait again since I sent it back. 3. We still think the new chef doesn't understand the identity of Mariposa. Of course he wants to add his touches to Mariposa, but he should respect many local regulars! We heard he used to work at a four seasons hotel restaurant in mainland. Before we even heard that we thought he tried to morph Mariposa into a five-star hotel restaurant or such a high-end restaurant. Such luxurious item dishes and small portion like experience dining. If he wants to do that, that should come up with quality. I am sorry to say that the new chef's new foods are not that level. We are regulars at Noe, Oahu four seasons' fine dining restaurant. We are very experienced diners. 3. We saw another party disappointed at the new menu. It's not nice to see our amazing staff frustrated at serving customers because regulars are not happy with changes and food and longer wait time. I am really upset you guys take away my go-to place. Mariposa's prices were a bit pricy but they were reasonable considering the taste and quality of the food. So, it was worthy. Now I don't see any value to pay those prices for your food. I honestly feel that you rip off the customers and do not appreciate customers business here. Aren't you guys losing customer for dinner already? That's what I heard. The amazing view premium wouldn't save you forever when your foods are not good enough. Please respect the customers' business. Thank you.

Yelp
Food and service were excellent. I had the salmon Ochazuke which was full of flavor. The bread and broth given pre meal were an added bonus.

Yelp
Lunch with a friend/colleague. We were seated on the terrace with a gorgeous view of Ala Moana Beach Park and Magic Island. Started off with their fresh pastry and a cup of hot broth to clean the palate. My colleague enjoyed her Salmon Ochazuke and I enjoyed the Crab Pasta daily special. The house salad was very fresh. Our desserts were also very delicious. Our servers were excellent, knowledgeable, and accommodating. We had a great time!!

Yelp
A vendor treated us to lunch at one of our favorite venues ... Mariposa in Neiman-Marcus. We sat at a table adjacent to the glass separating the inside of the room from the lanai as we prefer to dine inside. Two of us ordered a glass of Belle Glos Balade pinot noir ($22) and one other ordered one of Mariposa's signature cocktails whose name escapes me. Whatever, it was a colorful drink. Two ordered the Crab with Pasta special, one opted for the Salmon Chazuke and I tried their Duck special. The food came in short order and the food was so beautifully presented. My duck was well cooked and flavorful. It was a petite portion, but perfect for lunch. One of us had dessert; a mango cheesecake. We (I) always enjoy our time at Mariposa ... the service is attentive but not obtrusive; the space is airy and the wall of glass makes the space warm and welcoming in spite of the austere décor and furnishings. Whether for business or pleasure, lunch or an early dinner, Mariposa is a place I can recommend.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I took our other girlfriend here for her birthday. It was the birthday girl's first time to Mariposa and she was excited and hungry! Let me tell you the lunch started out poorly, but the manager Bruce did make up for it and turned it around! Firstly, my girlfriend and my drinks came out first and the birthday girl's did not. Our meals came out but birthday girl's did not. When it did it was wrong then took a long time. I had the Vietnamese, rare beef salad. My girlfriend had the salmon salad, and birthday girl had the duck special. We all did like our meals. Manager Bruce comped birthday girl's meal and gave us complementary desserts. We still like the venue, but uncertain how consistent the service is. Manager Bruce was great and can only do so much. Ultimately, it's always a team effort.

Yelp
First thing you should know - this restaurant is inside Neiman Marcus. I got the Mariposa salad with grilled chicken and it was DELICIOUS. The view was beautiful (ala Moana beach). With the meal they also serve their Yorkshire pudding with strawberry cream cheese AND consumme (chicken stock as a palette cleanser?) and both were surprisingly good! Excellent service, good views, BEST food.

Yelp
I haven't been to Mariposa in years. Went with a few friends for lunch. Our server John, was great!!! I got the Salmon ochazuke which is: pan roasted salmon with ochazuke risotto, ikura and japanese pickled vegetable relish, green tea. My friend didn't want her ikura so they put it in a separate dish and she gave to me. Yum!!! The salmon was tasty and risotto and pickled vegetables with the green tea fused all together. So delicious.

Yelp
We came here for a private event in 2018 hosted by my international wine and food society - hawaii chapter club. The menu was designed to be paired with wines brought in from Flanagan Vineyards. It was an excellent private event that lasted well into the evening. We were served Cured Kona Kampachi, Hamakua Mushroom Gyoza, and a Roasted Beef Tenderloin Roulade.

Yelp
I dined in at the restaurant on 10/20. Couple days later I checked my credit card and I saw the wrong amount that I got charged so I went back to the restaurant for a receipt. I talked to them and asked them to check for me but I don't get any reply's from them till today! Maybe they are too busy or just trying to ignore???

Yelp
Since Ms S had an errand at Ala Moana, I quickly checked Open Table if there were any open tables for lunch... Yes! So we started with a round of cocktails, the Afternoon Sunset - a twist of an Aperol Spritz - for Ms S and the Brother's Sour - like a refreshing whisky sour - for me. We always start with the Hurricane Seasoned Fries - I love my fries with a mayo-based dip while Ms S is all about ketchup and the fries are always plated with the ketchup on her side and the mayo on my side. Ms S had the Crab Pasta which was a special on a previous visit but now has made it to the regular menu while I selected the Smoked Salmon Salad, a lighter but filling entree. As long as it's not difficult to secure a table, we'll continue to dine at Mariposa...

Yelp
The atmosphere of this restaurant is amazing, but I don't come for the atmosphere. The reason I only rated it 3 stars, it could be a 4 but I may need to go back a second time to see if the experience is the same. I had made reservations and the 5 of us were seated at a half booth with two chairs, nice seating. We were given our menus and water, offered popover and chicken broth. Chicken broth was amazing and warm. Popover tasted a bit burnt but it was good. Our waiter came to take our order. When he was taking our order he gave me this vibe of "we don't belong in this kind of restaurant". We are locals and try to go to new restaurants and taste new things for special occasions. Anyway, we ordered and the food tasted good. For the price of the scallops, we would've thought it was jumbo scallops but it wasn't. We were given a dessert menu and the waiter said he was bringing a dessert for the birthday person. I said ok thank you! We got a slice of macadamia nut pie with a candle. When the check came I was a bit shocked! We were charged 20% gratuity, not sure if they made it aware to customers somewhere. Then I checked our bill and he charged us for the birthday pie!!! If I knew he was going to charge us, he could've at least gave us a choice on what we wanted. Not sure if I'll be going back cause I know ow of better places with better service and food tastes just as good for less.

Yelp
We held my friend's bridal shower here today and everything went so smoothly. The Manager, Justin, was highly responsive and executed everything that I had requested for the party, including a very specific food order due to health restrictions, to perfection. In fact, when they delivered the food, he brought it out the dish himself. Amazing!! The service we received from Hannah and the rest of the staff at the restaurant today was above and beyond. I've always loved Mariposa for its bright and happy ambiance, yummy food, good service, and of course, we can't forget the popovers. :) The impressive experience today just validated my love for this place. Everyone who attended had a great time and raved about the experience. Thank you Mariposa!

Yelp
This is my friends and my go to restaurant for delicious lunch or special occasions. Let's start with the consume and popover! I can eat only those two things and be so happy. But my favorite is the beet salad or something hearty the ochasuke salmon or pork chops. Make sure you leave room for their delicious desserts. The staff are amazing and fun! Love Mariposa!
