San Francisco’s New Restaurant Openings - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Mariposas is a walk-in Peruvian restaurant in SoMa. The space feels like a pseudo-rainforest with a giant plant wall, a turf floor, and a bright neon butterfly that commands the room. The menu is full of Peruvian classics like anticuchos, lomo saltado, and arroz chaufa. " - Ricky Rodriguez

Yelp
Great food! Not exactly authentic Peruvian food but close. Great for date night! Service was good, seemed a little understaffed on the day we went but it might not always be like that I hope.

Yelp
Food was really great! Service was decent, no complaints Ambience, BEAUTIFUL Went here for my birthday brunch, didn't have enough seats to fit 15 of us but they managed to fit us .

Yelp
I came here several months ago for a friend's birthday. The food was excellent, and the menu had a wide variety of traditional dishes that were incredibly tasty. The empanadas were excellent, and the lomo saltado was probably in the my "Top 3" of lomos. The decor and ambience could not have been better. We were there pretty early in the evening, so the place was not crowded. Taking off once star because, while the service was quick and attentive, it was a bit too attentive, as the waiter started staring at me, and made me and my friends uncomfortable, so we left a bit earlier than we would have otherwise...

Yelp
Ambiance is nicely butterfly themed and music isn't too loud. Service was pretty quick, it was a weeknight dinner with a conference happening nearby. Food was very ok, and definitely did not taste Peruvian. I've had better Peruvian food in the city. POLLO A LA BRASA was overcooked and dry. It needed to be marinated. Fried rice dish was akin to a Chinese restaurant. Empanadas were well spiced and fried.

Yelp
We came to Mariposas because it was closed to our hotel and it was labeled "Peruvian". The place is nicely decorated and fun. Service was pretty quick, friendly and quick. We ordered "arroz chaufa" and "arroz con mariscos". Both were good, and beautifully plated, but nowhere near the real Peruvian traditional flavors. To be fair, my husband made a change to his chaufa (originally made with chicken in this restaurant) and requested beef instead. The meat was delicious! Juicy, and perfectly cooked. But again, it didn't really taste Peruvian. He was somewhat disappointed, since he is from Peru. Nice meal, but it didn't blow our minds.

Yelp
For some reason I lost my previous review of this restaurant, but I wanted to reiterate how great it is! The ambience of this place is beautiful with kind and inviting staff. Every dish we ordered was delicious, so anything you decide to get is bound to taste great. Along with their desserts, and I'm not even much of a sweets person! The highlights would definitely be their sangria to drink along with their delectable and juicy chicken dish I got with sides of fried rice and salad tossed in a savory dressing. Honestly, any of their cocktails are yummy, so if you just wanted a place to sip and chat with friends and/or family this spot would be great for that as well. Please do yourself the greatest pleasure by visiting this establishment! I can't recommend it more!!!

Yelp
We came back again!!! I can't forget how the food tastes so good!!! I loved the bartender so much of how he makes our drinks so unforgettable delicious!!! I will keep coming back !!! The pisto, chicha, marukuya sours and the sangria were the best I've ever had!!! All the servers were attentive and service was prompt, friendly. and the butterflies around the restaurant were so enjoyable.

Yelp
Found myself in SOMA one night, determined to have Lomo Saltado. Yelp pointed me to Mariposas. I wasn't expecting much, Mission Street after all, but wow, whimsical space. Music! Butterflies! Neon! Very welcoming place. So of course i ordered the Lomo, seriously the best of Peruvian restaurants IMO. Tender strips of steak, just the right amount of onions & tomato, not too heavy-handed with the balsamic, not too salty with the soy sauce. And there's plenty of sauce. I usually don't order delivery since all those convenient Grub Hubs, etc charge the restaurant 25%. My excuse several times has been i'm tired, I don't feel well, it's rush hour, blah blah, guess that ship has sailed. I'm now ordering delivery. My only complaint with the meal is the small amount of rice. The Lomo Saltado is large enough for two, the rice barely one serving. Anyway, Mariposas is definitely destination-worthy. Support Local!

Yelp
The vibes inside were great! The decor was so fun and my friend and I sat in the cage type chairs close to the window (prime people watching)! The service was great as well, super attentive and helped answer some of our questions. The food was okay, I personally didn't like the lomo saltado because the fries were more soaked than usual. The chicarron de pollo was delicious but was just chicken and a dip, no additional items were included with this so it felt like an appetizer.

Yelp
We came here for our pre-New Years dinner with our friends. This restaurant looks small from the outside but has more seating in the back for bigger groups. It has such cute decor and the staff are very friendly and accommodating by describing the different foods. Here is what we had: Chicken and beef empanadas: Nice crispy shell, packed with meat... definitely one of the best empanadas I have had in awhile Ensalada mixta: regular salad but delicious. They have salad dressing to go with it, but I loved it just with the lime and olive oil. Refreshing! Chicharron de pollo: like chicken nuggets but on another level. Paired with lime squeezed on top and their special dipping sauce, totally a pleaser for both young and old Half chicken: I believe they are known for their roasted chicken...I have to say it tastes like the ones they make in the Philippines. Nice and juicy with flavor throughout Lomo Saltado: Wok-fried succulent strips of beef, sautéed with vibrant vegetables and zesty spices, over french fries. Served with jasmine rice - this was good, the meat was nice and tender. Although the sauce was a little overwhelming for me, if paired with rice it is perfect. Platano Frito: plantain bananas that adds a nice touch in between all the different foods we tried Arroz con leche: the best Peruvian dessert I have tried. They told us it is a homemade recipe. This has a unique taste that brings back memories of my own Philippine dessert called suman. Definitely worth having at the end of your meal. Overall I will definitely go back and suggest you try it out if you are in the area.

Yelp
What drew us to this place, were the birdcage chairs, I want one of those in my work office! And then we looked further in to see these large topiary green walls with largely lit butterflies. We did a quick check online for food/drink pictures and saw some drinks with butterflies in them and we were sold. When we got there on a weekday, there was a lath party of 14, a few other couple and us, not too crazy busy. We quickly got our drink orders taken in addition to our food orders. The ceviche came out first, fresh, lemony, zesty. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the chips were nice and crunchy. The drinks came and then our main courses shortly after. The rice in the Arroz Con Pollo was flavorful but not too overpowering, and the chicken seasoned well. As for the Lomo Saltado, the meat was IT! Seasoned well, meat was nice and soft, though I didn't quite care for the fries that were served with it, as they were mushy and soft in texture. I'm used to a more firm fry, and grabbed some of my colleagues' rice to eat with this particular dish. My colleague ordered another drink in the middle of our entrees, but didn't quite receive that, until we mentioned something to the server. So then, the server came to give us that drink plus another one, to try out. But, by then we were quite stuffed. Overall, the service was alright, had it been a little tighter, would've given this a 5-star, but it may have been that they were a little short-handed with the large party taking up majority of the restaurant's attention that evening.

Yelp
Burger was surprisingly good! Stopped her for a casual weekday lunch and overall was impressed by the place. Interior decorations are a bit intense, but the place hits home on the food and service. Mariposas burger was pretty solid, and I really enjoyed the egg on top. Fried plantains had a nice crisp to it as well. Two other people got Lomo Saltado which is one of their popular items. Staff was pretty friendly and prices are reasonable. Wait was pretty reasonable for lunch. Surprisingly the place only had 2-3 other tables at 12:30 -- not sure if thats par for the area, or if the diner next door pulls in all the local business.

Darla G.

Yelp
The food was very good, especially the chicken! Service was solid. Most appreciated that they did not try to hurry our large group who were enjoying the food and enjoying each other's company! A block from Marriott Marquis. Much more affordable than many options near convention center and very tasty.

Yelp
I was meeting my friend Carlos for dinner. Since he was driving up from San Jose, I was thinking this might be a good spot to meet. It's not only located near the mammoth Fifth & Mission garage, but it's actually within the structure on the Mission side. So there was the convenience factor, and the other aspect was that we both like Peruvian food. Otherwise we knew nothing about this place. Let me first state first that our server was so nice, a courteous young man who was obviously trained very well. Carlos and I decided to share a couple of plates starting with the $14 Chicken Empanadas. Two conveniently came with an order that included a side salad and a ramekin of creamy aji sauce (photo: https://yelp.to/p5g6f33yJ5). We were both somewhat disappointed that the filling was overcooked. The flaky dough was pretty good though. The $8 Papas Fritas was what we expected, a pile of French fries drizzled with cheese sauce, mayonnaise, and ketchup (photo: https://yelp.to/_RWqxebQHy). More soggy than crispy, the potatoes were filling us up before our entree arrived, which we didn't realize included French fries. Not a bright move on our part, but we never seem to get enough fries anyway. Each of us ordered the $15 Pollo a la Brasa, the quarter chicken (leg & thigh) portion, which indeed came with a cup of fries and also a side mini-Caesar salad (photo: https://yelp.to/KEJrZwQL1t). The chicken was just a tad too overcooked to satisfy with the skin a smidge on the charred side. Compared with an established place like Limon, the poultry just lacked the moist tenderness we were hoping to find. Oh well, the server was nice. FOOD - 3 stars...tendency to overcook the hot food AMBIANCE - 3 stars...kinda 70's...green with colorful butterfly lighting SERVICE - 4.5 stars...the server should stay TOTAL - 3 stars...middling Peruvian food in a garage RELATED - Exploring western SoMa? Yelp
We went here in a Saturday after the matinee. There was only one server /bartender in the entire restaurant. We started with drinks- old fashioned and pisco sour. Then it took 35 minutes to get our food!! We ordered yucca fries, ceviche Classico and chicken empanadas. All the food had good flavor, but the wait was too long. Don't come here if you are in a rush, they do not move fast.

Yelp
It was my first time at this Peruvian restaurant. We had a surprise baby shower party in the afternoon on a weekday. They set up a tables for about 15-20ppl in the middle of the restaurant for us. It was perfect. This place is cute. Once you step inside it's like you're sitting outside. The walls are decorated with green foliage (not real), gigantic lit butterflies are on the wall, & the ceiling has different colored butterflies. There's a huge bar and a few TVs, which all of them were on the Olympics. The staff was great. The veggie empanadas & anticucho veggie dish was good and tasty. The veggie dish was a pretty good portion as well. The Yucatán fries didn't have much taste and the dipping sauce it comes with didn't have much taste either; but, the crispness & texture of the fries was just right. Finally, the chocolate cake was so good. We all shared it but I could've eaten the whole piece of cake myself. Also, we ordered some sort of warm rice dessert dish. Several people loved it. It was good but I preferred the chocolate cake. This place is great to meet up with friends or have a small party. I would come back here again!

Yelp
Mariposas is a pretty unique spot to grab a bite. We had a reservation, but it seems like they were keeping track of reservations on a random piece of paper. So, there was some confusion around our reservation when we arrived. On top of that, their decor is quite bizarre. Cheap butterfly lights taped to the ceiling, glowing plastic butterflies on the wall, and plastic plants lining the whole place. Despite the quirks and confusion about our reservation, the food was excellent. If you're looking for a restaurant with a classic ambiance, then this place isn't for you. If you want some fantastic Peruvian food, look no further.

Yelp
We had a reservation on a Wednesday night and glad that we did. The place is small so it filled up very quickly. It's decorated floor to ceiling with plenty of little cute spots for photo ops. The Arroz Con Pollo was tender, juicy and flavorful. Presentation of the dishes were very beautiful. Due to how busy it was it did seem like dishes came out at random times and not everyone in our party had their meals together but overall it wasn't too bad of a wait.

Yelp
Good food, subpar service. I ordered a standard arroz con pollo, my preferred dish at Peruvian restaurants. The food was good, not great. The chicken was less flavorful than I'd expected. Luckily the sauces helped mend the gap in seasonings. The ambiance is basic: the walls are covered in faux foliage and large, light up butterflies. Only slightly disruptive as one of said large butterflies hovered in my periphery throughout the meal, but nothing to write home about. I was disappointed in the service. While the waitress was perfectly polite and even friendly throughout the meal, I was met with not one, but two surprises when the bill arrived. First, I requested additional sauce while eating and was charged $2 for it; the waitress did not say that there would be an additional charge and neither did the menu. Second, while ordering, I specifically requested the happy hour menu (it was in poor taste that the waitress did not provide it alongside the other menus when I was seated, but I digress). The waitress specifically told me that margaritas were the only cocktail included during happy hour pricing (despite the menu implying all cocktails were, but again, I digress). Yet, when I received the bill, I was charged full price and told "only the classic margarita was included in happy hour, not the flavored margaritas." Dubiousness of their happy hour pricing aside, the waitress failed to make this distinction when I ordered so being charged full price for the drink was an unpleasant surprise. Unfortunately, the subpar service I received means I will not be returning.

Yelp
My best friend and I accidentally stumbled across this place right before we went clubbing. I've never had Peruvian food before, so I went in completely blind. First off, the decor in here is SO CUTE and so whimsical. The butterflies on the wall and the egg-shaped/cage chairs are to die for! Our server promptly came over and took our food/drink orders. I'm a very indecisive person, so I always like to ask the servers what their favorite selections are. We ended up getting the Ceviche de Classico, the beef skewers, and the vegetable skewers. For drinks, my bestie got the Pisco Sour, and I got the passion fruit margarita with tajin. Everything was SO tasty and yummy. We had to ask for more chips because we couldn't stop eating the ceviche. My bestie even DRANK the remnants of it. It was that good. And the skewers with the chimichurri? I think I died and went to heaven. I was so sad when I finished I wanted to get more, but I also didn't want to be too full before going out. We asked to speak with the chef to give them our compliments, but we ended up seeing her through the kitchen window and profusely showing her love that way Thank you so much to the staff of Mariposas!!!! I will definitely be back. This was a delightful find on an adventurous night out :')

Yelp
Whoever designed the place really likes butterflies. Just come see. The food was incredible as well as the service. Very welcoming and a great casual place to meet up with friends for a great drink as well. Try the mango margarita.

Yelp
Ceviche Classico was delicious. Also loved the pisco sours (delicious and beautiful!), but don't drink the art; it's gelatinous. I forgot Jalea is fried, but that's my fault. Empanada sampler was a crowd pleaser too. Was able to walk in and grab a table. Not too loud. Friendly and fast service. I'd definitely come back for a convenient and yummy meal.

Yelp
Ambiance cheesy. Food was good, better than appeared. Problem.. my partner arrived a around 15min before me. Restaurant was empty. The moment she walks in... she is told they have NO availability. Odd, but I had made a reservation, so tragedy averted. She was placed on a back wall. Ok, so here's the weird on icing... during our dinner approx 1.5hrs they received other patrons. No one else was turned away. Stay to finish a total of 2 hrs... they still had approx 4 tables unfilled. While the food was good, I love Peruvian food, and the service was attentive.... I can't suggest this restaurant.

Yelp
Food was delicious and generously portioned. Took me back to Lima! Definitely recommend

Yelp
A beautifully decorated restaurant in the heart of Mission Street with excellent customer service and visually appealing dishes. However, the chicken was disappointing, mostly skin and bone, very dry, and lacking in flavor. The only highlight for me was the yuca fries.

Yelp
We had lunch here on Saturday after seeing the Christmas tree and store decorations in Union Square. We ordered the ceviche classico, beef empanadas, and I had the lomo saltado as my entrée. Both the ceviche and and empanada were good. The lime juice cooked the fish meat tender. The empanada was mainly for my son's meal. It beef meat was flavored well and the empanada was crispy and flaky. The lomo saltado dish was also very flavorful. It had lots of onions, fries, and large portions of beef. My son liked the sauced fries and beef. Served with rice on the side, it was a filling dish. Though pricey for lunch, this was a greet place to enjoy a nice meal.

Yelp
Solid little spot in the city. Good is always solid, staff are nice and I've never had a bad experience here. Good little spot to escape the hustle and bustle.

Yelp
This place is small but the food was so good! Came out here for sibling night and we had a blast. The quarter chicken was so tender and we got so full on the appetizers (ceviche was fresh and the empanadas were delicious!) I'm not sure what the green sauce was, but was so good and had a nice kick so we ordered extra! I love how convenient this is to parking and the other bars around the area.
google avatar

Corina D.

Yelp
I was looking for something sort of niche for a dinner date with my best friend when I came across this place. When I saw lomo saltado on the menu, I was sold, as I haven't had it in a while. We ordered the lomo saltado and arroz con mariscos along with a cocktail each. For dessert, we tried the arroz con leche. All of the food was tasty, but there's definitely a bit of shrinkflation going on. The portion sizes were about 2/3 the size of other Peruvian or fusion restaurants I've been to that serve lomo saltado, and the price was about 33% higher here than at those places. We didn't order an abnormally large amount of food, just 2 entrees, 2 drinks, and 1 dessert to share, but the check would suggest we ate somewhere way fancier.

Yelp
Had a meeting where the lunch was catered by this spot. Amazing! I had the chicken and beef empanadas, fries, Peruvian rice, and chicken, some kind of beef stir fry and white rice. But the sauces made everything perfect! Yum!
google avatar

Yelp
Great Peruvian option near Moscone center. Went for a business lunch so I didn't take pics. Lomo Saltado, fried rice and empanadas were all fabulous

Yelp
I went on a weekday, and it seemed a bit understaffed. The owner/manager was the only person who spoke English at the time, so we had to wait awhile for our orders to be taken. Once we got our orders in, everything else went smoothly. The food was good and we enjoyed talking to the owner about his restaurant and the other one (Bocado) that he owns. Very friendly place in a convenient location. The decor is very on-theme with butterflies everywhere

Yelp
This gem of a restaurant was empty when we arrived for an early 11 AM lunch on a Saturday! Inside is so charming and whimsical, the whole restaurant just made me smile and feel good. The servers were all polite and helpful pointing out special features of this newish restaurant. I loved everything about this restaurant. Great service, fresh food, delicious flavor combinations that are well balanced, good portion, sizes, fair prices. This restaurant is still waiting for its liquor license to be approved.... as of February 2024. This restaurant is a walkable distance from the Orpheum theater.
google avatar

Venkat R.

Yelp
Mariposas recently opened up near downtown and as you walk in it has a very garden like theme with butterfly LED lights and images everywhere . We happened to be the only other group dining there so pretty much had the whole place to ourselves Unfortunately they didn't have a liquor license yet but the chef was kind enough to improvise and made us horchatas which weren't on the menu . For food we started with the empanadas which were delicious and fresh . We followed up with the lomos Saltados which was juicy and well seasoned. We also tried the arroz chauf, albeit a vegetarian version which was flavorful. All food portions were large and super filling, the prices are slightly on the higher side for the appetizers, but the staff was very accommodating and made the experience well worth it. Overall this would be more of a group gathering than an ideal date spot. As the establishment rolls in new improvements and gets their liquor license setup I'm sure it's going to be a popular spot,

Yelp
I made reservations at Mariposas for a party of 10 for pre-party and dinner before the Fluffy show at Chase Center. Mariposas was a 15min. drive to the Chase Center so not far at all. The place is very cute with butterflies theme. It really brightens up the place and the photos come out really nice too. The food was SO good that all of us forgot to take photos of them - we just started grubbing hard. -----Appetizers: we ordered empanadas, Ceviches and this popcorn chicken that looked like calamaries....the kids ordered that so I didn't catch the name. All the apps were delicious. -----Mains: I had the Beef Lomo Saldado and it was on point! My SIL said the quinoa dish was the BEST quinoa she has ever had. My cousin ordered the rotisserie chicken and the portion was so big that he ended up sharing half of it with everyone else because he wanted us try how good it tasted LOL. All the dishes were tasty and fresh! -----Drinks: they have very limited options but it served us all very well! I tried Peru beer and it was nice and crispy. The service was exceptional! Our servers tended to us from start to finish. Forgot to get their names but they were a great team that worked together to get orders, serve them and took turns taking care of us. I will definitely come back here when we head to the city again.

Yelp
Came here during the week around 2PM. It was empty, just my friends and I. The decorations are really cool and pretty. Despite it being empty, the service was just okay. We waited a while to be acknowledged and then after sitting waited before our order was taken. Our food and drinks took a while to come out. My friend ordered a mango lemonade which was pretty yummy. Food wise I got a half chicken with rice and yucca fries. My friend got half a chicken, as well. The chicken was cooked well and was juicy. The yucca fries were good and crunchy and not greasy. My friends really enjoyed the rice and it was just fine to me. The purple sauce was the star of the show for me. It tasted like olives and it really did it for me for some reason. Overall, I felt like I would have preferred different sides that were not all carbs but it tasted good. After our meal, the waiter brought us complimentary arroz con leche. I don't usually like arroz con leche but this one was good. It was warm and a great consistency. The fresh fruit really elevated it as well. Overall, it was a fine experience. Nothing to complain about, but not my fave.

Anne G.

Yelp
Stunning place, really beautifully decorated and lit. Gorgeous furniture. The empanadas were scrumptious, the vegetarian one was our favorite. We had the Mariscos ceviche and my friend thought it was fabulous, but I thought it was just ok. Wait staff were super nice and helpful.

Yelp
Tucked away in one of San Francisco's liveliest neighborhoods, Mariposa isn't just a restaurant--it's a vibrant celebration of Peru's culinary soul, rotisserie-fired with passion and layered with deep, aromatic stories in every bite. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted not just with the mouthwatering aroma of slow-roasted meats and exotic spices, but with genuine warmth. The staff at Mariposa are as unforgettable as the food itself--welcoming, attentive, and deeply knowledgeable. Whether it's your first visit or your fifth, you're treated like family. They don't just take your order--they guide you through the experience, offering recommendations that feel personal and spot-on. Their passion for Peruvian cuisine radiates in every interaction, and you can tell they're proud of what's coming out of the kitchen. Need help pairing sauces or deciding between sides? They've got you. Allergies or dietary needs? They listen, and they care. Now, let's talk food. The star, without question, is the rotisserie chicken--gloriously crisp on the outside, succulent and dripping with flavor within. It's not just cooked--it's cared for. The seasoning cuts deep into the meat, with citrusy brightness, slow-smoked depth, and a slight, teasing heat that lingers lovingly. Pair it with ají verde, and you're in heaven. The creamy, spicy green sauce is electric--a punch of jalapeño, cilantro, and lime that turns each bite into a little revelation. Sides like the yuca fries--golden, thick, and perfectly salted--or the arroz chaufa (Peruvian-style fried rice) add even more dimension to the experience. Vegetarians aren't left out either. The grilled vegetable anticuchos are smoky and charred just right, and the quinoa-stuffed peppers bring earthiness and soul to the plate. And let's not skip dessert. The lucuma mousse is otherworldly--silky, dreamy, and delicately sweet, with that unique Peruvian fruit giving it a signature finish. One spoon in, and you understand why this fruit is nicknamed "gold of the Incas." Mariposa isn't just dinner. It's a full-blown expedition. It redefines what it means to eat out--it's storytelling through food, a cultural exchange told rotisserie-style, and an experience that lingers long after the last bite. Whether you're a Peruvian food aficionado or a curious first-timer, Mariposa is a must-visit. The bold, soul-stirring flavors are only rivaled by the heartwarming hospitality. It's rare to find a place where every detail--down to the smile you're served with--feels intentional.

Yelp
Good food. Good value for the money. Good service from the owner and team. However, the restaurant was cold. I don't know if that would stop me from going back but take it as a word of caution.

Yelp
Mariposa is a Peruvian themed restaurant which leans heavily on the 'butterfly' theme in its decorations. I found the decor whimsical and engaging. I had the ceviche and quarter chicken and was well satisfied with both. Our server was delightful and friendly. I would revisit

Yelp
My love and I had the MOST sensational dinner here on Saturday night. The hospitality is outstanding, and the food- oh my goodness, such stunning vibrant fresh flavors using impeccably fresh ingredients STRAIGHT from Peru. You will not regret coming here, we just wish we had been hungrier, because I could have ordered everything on the menu and cocktail list. The decor and ambience is so cool and pretty with these gorgeous butterflies that light up- you feel like you are immersed in a beautiful jungle- selfie queens indulge! (Check out the bathroom, it's so cute!) I thoroughly enjoyed the Ceviche Carretillero- it was zingy, fresh and the Choclo added a moreish savory creaminess. The Chicken Tallarin Saltado which is a noodle dish, was absolutely umame and delicious. We also got the Chiccaron De Polo (fried chook) but like you haven't had before- as for ALL the sauces, including spicy- they are delicious and the chicken was moist, crunchy and perfectly cooked. I had the Chicha Sour cocktail- it paired more than perfectly with the food and I really enjoyed trying chicha for the first time- give me more!! Mariposa's is known for their chicken, and we can see why!! If you love, need or are craving chook- get thee here quickly!! The also have a duster restaurant serving upmarket Peruvian- I'm making a beeline here next time too. Thank you so much for having us, we will definitely be back next time we are in San Fran!

Yelp
Cam and I decided to try out Mariposas for date night , we are a couple of foodies who love trying new restaurants and giving our honest opinion. The decor in Mariposas is super adorable , a mixture of elegant with simplicity. I personally love flowers and butterflies so the theme is something I love. The service was nice , they were very attentive and greeted us within a decent time. They are also pet friendly which is a plus if you like to bring your fur babies with you , we left ours at home :) but there was a couple dinning with their beautiful golden retriever. As far as the food some flavors where great and some could use a little bit more of seasoning or crunch but it overall the food taste was 9/10 . The food prices ranges from $11-30. The food came out in a decent amount of time as well . We had 4 of their dishes which we enjoyed , but are over all favorite would of have to be the ceviche carretillero ! That leche del tigre is amazing ,we definitely recommend you try it . We each had one drink and the drinks were definitely tasty and delicious. We did not have dessert as we were to full but definitely will give them a try next time.

Yelp
Awesome food. Finally, a good rotisserie chicken , love ceviche, yummy lomo saltado, pisco sour delicious and unforgettable aroz con Leche dessert Easy parking and on your way to the movies or after or plan your shopping downtown The owner is a young entrepreneur, and He is nice and attentive. He works helping the kitchen and serving tables as well as it should be to make all guests happy. The sign at the door says no dogs allow only service dogs. I go there often, so please don't complain if you see me with my very well-behaved service dog with an official tag . After all, We live in SF. Therefore, we are protected by law.

Yelp
I took my team to Mariposa's for a work lunch, and everyone raved about it! It was easy to make a reservation for our large group of around 15 people, and the table was ready and waiting when we arrived. The decor is eye-catching and fun, and the service could not have been any better. Everyone we spoke to was friendly and patient as folks navigated the menu and asked questions about portion size, ingredients, etc. The food came out pretty quickly given how many orders we had! Everyone enjoyed their meals, and several of us asked for to-go boxes to take leftovers home, because the portion sizes were fairly large and a great value for the price. I can definitely see Mariposas being an excellent choice for the "dinner" part of a dinner and a movie date!

Yelp
$30 for the beautiful scenery. Great service with three parties in including me at 2:35 bathroom is really nice too! The food was delicious. A little saltier than my liking but was cooked deliciously well! I'd come bag with a date!

Yelp
We walked in and were warm welcomed with the exotic ambiance. The butterflies and bachata hand in hand with the Lomo and Ceviche proved for an amazing first-time experience at Mariposas! Must try!

Yelp
This area of the city is a little quieter these days compared to years past, but Mariposas is a bright light and an enjoyable place to eat for dinner or for drinks. The interior is a cool garden motif and the service was very good. We shared a loaded fries dish (we weren't super hungry). It was a sizeable portion, very shareable. I would like to come back and try more options on the menu.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I just went her today for a nice mellow dinner and when we walked in, the place was very colorful and welcoming. The co-owner let us sit wherever, so we pick a nice table by the window. The co-owner then came over after helping some other patrons and took care of us right away. We even asked him how long they had been open for (6 months) and he shared more about his story and experience. The other owner then came over and greeted us and we had a nice conversation for a few minutes. They are so friendly and welcoming and you can tell they work so hard at their craft. We ended up ordering the Arroz con Pollo with Cilantro Rice and the Arroz Chaufa. The dishes came out pretty quickly, within 10 mins and they were nice and warm - not too hot. Both dishes were full of flavor and the plate portions were very generous. The Arroz con Pollo came with a full chicken leg that was still moist and the meat pulled on so easily. The cilantro rice was light and not overwhelming with too much cilantro. The Arroz Chaufa had a nice savory taste with chicken pieces (no extra charge) and and melted when I took a bite. We even received a complimentary chocolate cake dessert to share. Such an nice gesture. Overall great time and lovely experience to meet the owners/chefs - hard working people who cook with their hearts! Will definitely come back!
