Yelp
I found this Mexican restaurant called Mariscos Altamar, which was about half a mile from my hotel, the La Quinta hotel suites. I did not want to walk far or call an Uber for such short distance. Plus, it was raining.
And so, I decided to come here for lunch after a rainy morning that lingered into the afternoon that day in November 2024. It was a Monday of course. But I was on vacation in Albuquerque, so I tried to find something authentic and something interesting for me to have for lunch. But that said, I came here around 12:45 PM and the place was not really crowded, so I got a table almost immediately. My entire experience was about one hour or so. I ended up getting two strawberry margaritas, during that time I was like why not. I looked at the menu, which was pretty expensive and extensive. What caught my eye was the oysters. I ended up having that just to try. For my main entrée I got the Carne Asada tacos. The entire tab was close to $60 if not more. At the time I didn't care. I was on vacation. The vibe here was interesting and the ambience was quite enough to where I could just enjoy the mood of the day here at this restaurant. Not sure if they have Wi-Fi here but it is what it is. I enjoyed myself for about an hour eating my way through the oysters and the Carne Asada. The oysters Was pretty good actually. It never gave me an adverse reaction after the meal, which was so good. Thank you to the people who cooked and prepare the oysters. It was definitely a welcome treat while on vacation. Also the margaritas as well, those are tasty.
The overall experience here at Mariscos Altamar Mexican restaurant was good and uneventful. It would have been better with someone I know accompanying me for lunch, but that's moot now. I myself enjoying the Carne Asada tacos. Although the margaritas were top notch, it blended well with the oysters. The restaurant itself was clean, and the staff was very friendly and got the order to me within 20 minutes after ordering. Even the decor of the restaurant was kind of festive. They had paintings and other Mexican themed items on display. The good news is that they have also a restroom. I actually used it before and after the meal, which was good. For the most part, it was a good lunch for sure. I may have gone a little overboard with the alcohol, but it was definitely in the moment kind of thinking, and the check clearly showed it. And so, if you're ever in the area of Albuquerque, New Mexico near the airport, and crave authentic Mexican food, or just maybe a few rounds of margaritas, consider coming to this rocket spot at any time of the day. They will be glad to have you for sure. It's too bad that I had to leave, or else I would have or more margaritas and just be flatline for the rest of the day. Thankfully, I stopped lol. I'm sure this place is a hidden gem especially on Friday and Saturday nights.
Mariscos Altamar authentic Mexican restaurant is located at 1517 Coors Blvd NW, near the Albuquerque Sunport. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. As far as parking goes, they have a generous parking option for you all who drive. If you're like me, best bet is to find Albuquerque's public transportation system, and see which bus routes are applicable to your situation. As for me, though, I ended up walking half a mile from the La Quinta in hotel and suites, which I was staying the night before my experience. After my lunch experience, I took an Uber out of the area. I decided then to spend the afternoon at the New Mexico Natural History museum in E Albuquerque. Pretty cool after having 2 strawberry margaritas in you to partake in some history and culture of New Mexico! With that said, if you love Mexican cuisine or margaritas, swing on by, they would love to have you.
5.0 stars for the overall experience. I don't care about prices. Good food and alcohol. On vacation.
