Mild, unassuming restaurant hidden off the freeway delivers excellent Mexican-style seafood. The staff is beyond par, with attentive, thoughtful, and genuine service. I had a ceviche tostada as an appetizer, and it was great. Super great! Main dish was the Seafood Special, and it delivered a cornucopia of fresh, well prepared seafood that was balanced with spices. Great margaritas! Only complaint is that it's too brightly lit inside, but that's just me. Will come back next time I'm in town.

I really enjoyed myself at this fine establishment, I ordered the Al Pastor Taco plate, it was very delicious. The rice and beans were great as well. I will definitely be back. This might be my favorite place in town! UPDATE : I came back to try this place again and it did not disappoint, everything was spot on, I got the specialty plate (Fish, Octopus, Shrimp) with a side of rice and Guacamole, I also got the Aquachile with Chips and Salsa, everyone was top notch, this place will be added to my rotation when I’m craving some Seafood. I will definitely be back! 👍

Haven't even left the restaurant yet, but had give this place a 5 star review. Best food we've had in the last week we've been in New Mexico.

Always great food and friendly service! Leo is always so friendly and helpful. I recently had the pleasure of being served Leo at Alta Mar I must say, the experience was outstanding. From the moment we sat down, Leo greeted us with a warm and genuine smile, making us feel right at home. Throughout the meal, they were attentive without being overbearing, ensuring our drinks were always filled and checking in at just the right times to see if we needed anything. What stood out the most was their knowledge of the menu. They took the time to explain the dishes in detail and offered great recommendations based on our preferences, which made the dining experience even more enjoyable. The pacing of the meal was perfect, and everything came out exactly as we ordered. Not only was Leo professional and efficient, but they also had a wonderful sense of humor, making the atmosphere feel relaxed and fun. It’s rare to find a waiter who strikes the perfect balance of friendly and professional, but Leo did just that. Overall, I couldn’t be more pleased with the service. It truly made our evening special, and I will definitely be returning to Alta Mar again, hoping to be served by Leo once more. Highly recommend! The chocolate cake was amazing also!!

Our server, Coila, was very helpful & friendly. My favorite dish is the shrimp & crab enchiladas; my husband likes the combination plates. The aguachilies are so delicious! We love our dinners at Mariscos!

Yelp
I found this Mexican restaurant called Mariscos Altamar, which was about half a mile from my hotel, the La Quinta hotel suites. I did not want to walk far or call an Uber for such short distance. Plus, it was raining. And so, I decided to come here for lunch after a rainy morning that lingered into the afternoon that day in November 2024. It was a Monday of course. But I was on vacation in Albuquerque, so I tried to find something authentic and something interesting for me to have for lunch. But that said, I came here around 12:45 PM and the place was not really crowded, so I got a table almost immediately. My entire experience was about one hour or so. I ended up getting two strawberry margaritas, during that time I was like why not. I looked at the menu, which was pretty expensive and extensive. What caught my eye was the oysters. I ended up having that just to try. For my main entrée I got the Carne Asada tacos. The entire tab was close to $60 if not more. At the time I didn't care. I was on vacation. The vibe here was interesting and the ambience was quite enough to where I could just enjoy the mood of the day here at this restaurant. Not sure if they have Wi-Fi here but it is what it is. I enjoyed myself for about an hour eating my way through the oysters and the Carne Asada. The oysters Was pretty good actually. It never gave me an adverse reaction after the meal, which was so good. Thank you to the people who cooked and prepare the oysters. It was definitely a welcome treat while on vacation. Also the margaritas as well, those are tasty. The overall experience here at Mariscos Altamar Mexican restaurant was good and uneventful. It would have been better with someone I know accompanying me for lunch, but that's moot now. I myself enjoying the Carne Asada tacos. Although the margaritas were top notch, it blended well with the oysters. The restaurant itself was clean, and the staff was very friendly and got the order to me within 20 minutes after ordering. Even the decor of the restaurant was kind of festive. They had paintings and other Mexican themed items on display. The good news is that they have also a restroom. I actually used it before and after the meal, which was good. For the most part, it was a good lunch for sure. I may have gone a little overboard with the alcohol, but it was definitely in the moment kind of thinking, and the check clearly showed it. And so, if you're ever in the area of Albuquerque, New Mexico near the airport, and crave authentic Mexican food, or just maybe a few rounds of margaritas, consider coming to this rocket spot at any time of the day. They will be glad to have you for sure. It's too bad that I had to leave, or else I would have or more margaritas and just be flatline for the rest of the day. Thankfully, I stopped lol. I'm sure this place is a hidden gem especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Mariscos Altamar authentic Mexican restaurant is located at 1517 Coors Blvd NW, near the Albuquerque Sunport. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. As far as parking goes, they have a generous parking option for you all who drive. If you're like me, best bet is to find Albuquerque's public transportation system, and see which bus routes are applicable to your situation. As for me, though, I ended up walking half a mile from the La Quinta in hotel and suites, which I was staying the night before my experience. After my lunch experience, I took an Uber out of the area. I decided then to spend the afternoon at the New Mexico Natural History museum in E Albuquerque. Pretty cool after having 2 strawberry margaritas in you to partake in some history and culture of New Mexico! With that said, if you love Mexican cuisine or margaritas, swing on by, they would love to have you. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. I don't care about prices. Good food and alcohol. On vacation. Support local! A+

Yelp
Driving though this area on our way to Fort Worth, we decided to stop for a late night dinner. So happy we did. We sat at the bar and lucky for me they had their Fish Bowl drink on special for Thursday night which was a great deal!! Chicken enchiladas were seasoned just right and we so enjoyed the experience. Wonderful experience!

Yelp
The flamed oysters were ok but not quite what I was hoping. They needed more flame. The cheese on top was barely melted. The el Diablo sauce needed help from a hefty dose of hot sauce to live up to its name. The place was pleasant, service good and friendly. I will come back and try other items in the large menu.

Yelp
Never new much about Mexican seafood and regrettably avoided this place out of pure ignorance I'll admit. Once you walk in, the ambiance, the smells, the awesome Tokyo tea, the food! Oh my goodness absolutely fantastic! Definitely swing by this gem!

Yelp
This was really really good Mexican food. I would totally recommend this place. I absolutely loved it. Wish I lived there so I could go back.

Yelp
Some of the best Cevice I've had in NM! I would get the Ceviche Nachos to share with someone because it comes with a lot! The chips served with this dish are so good and it has a small kick and a lot of flavor

Yelp
Chile tells no and tacós and tamales are great. Service is exceptional and it's a nice cozy place to eat

Yelp
Fresh food and prompt service. Very busy so I was expecting a delay, none at all. I was very pleased. Only complaint my allergies were activated by the overuse of Fabuloso.

Yelp
Very good hidden Gem in ABQ! Got a tip from a local and glad we listened! Place was open and clean! Service was real good! And food was beyond expectations! Pretty traditional Mexican food! My Shrimp Entree was great and the Queso Dip was Super Cheesy!
google avatar

Maithili S.

Yelp
Their drinks are good. The ceviche nachos are nah. Ambience js good. Feels like a traditional restaurant but food is meh.

Yelp
This place is fantastic! Super busy on a Friday night but the food was hot, fresh and delicious and the service was great. The live music was a bonus! Neighborhood is a bit iffy but this place is great!

Francesca O.

Yelp
We had a wonderful dinner. The line was long but worth it. The mariachi guitarist was a treat.

Al Y.

Yelp
This place has really gone downhill. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants for seafood. The mojarra was our favorite. Now their mojarra is over fried. I mean really over fried. Fried to the point where there is little white meat. It's like they're making fish chicarrones. It's dry, hard and basically not edible. My wife had flautas which had little meat and were about 50% hollow. Both of our dishes came out cold And now they charge for chips and salsa which used to be complimentary. Needless to say , we won't be returning.

Yelp
After a couple days in Albuquerque, I needed a green chile fix before returning home. Yelp led me to Mariscos and it was pretty good. The green chili pork had great flavor. The meat itself was pretty tough and grisly. The refried beans were some of the best I have ever had. The service was friendly and fast and the prices were pretty cheap. The neighborhood is pretty rough. I would not take my wife or kids here especially at night. Homelessness and drugs up are nearby this location.

Yelp
We hadn't eaten here in quite awhile so with some friends in town we decided to stop here for a change of pace. The parking lot was full, but it's a small parking lot next to the buildings. It was busy, but we were seated right away. Drinks and Queso Fundido with chorizo were ordered for starters. For entrees it was Shrimp/Crab Chimichanga and the Taquitos. The queso came out thick with plenty of chips. It had good taste but skimpy on the chorizo. After a long wait our food was delivered. The chimichanga came lightly fried vs the usual crispy wrapping. The crab & shrimp There was plenty of guac and sour cream. The beans were smothered by cheese. The taquitos were deep fried crispy. The chicken was dry in spots. Again these came with ample amounts of guac & sour cream and cheese covered beans. Our server rounded frequently which helped keep our drink glasses full. Delicious food + excellent service = great meal

Vic M.

Yelp
Great food and awesome service from our server. We went about 2:30P for a late lunch great ambiance and very quiet at that time.

Yelp
Started with the chips and salsa and cheese dip. I found both salsas a little spicy for my taste (I'm a gringo from NYC), but the cheese dip was delicious - creamy, complex, satisfying. I had crab and shrimp enchiladas with green sauce for my entree. Outstanding. Incredibly flavorful and fresh. Service was attentive and efficient. Not lacking in any way. Restaurant was full, but didn't feel crowded. Would definitely recommend!

Jennifer L.

Yelp
The atmosphere was great. Our server Sylvia was amazing and our food was delicious! Highly recommended

Yelp
This place is crazy busy, but it is well worth the wait. Taco's are so good and so were the tamales. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Always so many tasty options but I tend to always pick my favorites! I enjoyed the ceviche mixed seafood tostada with a small order of shrimp cocktail and a delicious cold michelada. Service is always nice and prompt. We were seated immediately, no wait. The restaurant was full and busy but it's nice that there are several dining room areas or the bar to have many seating options. My friend had the seafood caldo, it looked delicious and I'll definitely have to try it next time.

Doug M.

Yelp
Food was just kind of warm at best. I'm from northern Minnesota and I think we have better Mexican food than that was!
google avatar

Thomas G.

Yelp
Always exceeds food expectations. Great service and the everyone is friendly. Let's go!

Yelp
We stopped overnight in Albuquerque and this was close to our hotel. Mariscos had a nice family atmosphere, lots of laughter. Might be due to the fact that it was fishbowl night, where drinks are served in a small fishbowl! I had an Ocean Water drink, it was delicious and coconutty and strong! The food was tasty and came to the table quickly, our waiter was training, and his trainer stopped by several times to check how he was doing. Overall, good Mexican food at a good price.
google avatar

Stacy R.

Yelp
Mariscos is a great spot to celebrate Hispanic heritage month. They have amazing drinks and great fresh seafood.

Michelle Ed J.

Yelp
Paco gave fast and efficient service. I told him I did not want to drive to my hotel after dark and he understood. We discussed the local homeless issue while he delivered my wine and salsa/chips. They had a problem with people camping on the property but the police cleaned them out and it is now business as usual. I had shrimp enchiladas in green sauce. I really liked the green salsa and the beans were delicious. The meal was good and came out impressively quick. As promised, I was fed and paid before dark (within 40 minutes).
google avatar

Yelp
Always been busy, I can tell you my faves are the lobster and the shrimp! If you love seafood and some spice in you life? Give ''em a try! Muy delicioso!

Erasmo C.

Yelp
My first time this restaurant and was disappointed I'm ordered fish soup no flavors 2 pieces of fish very greasy foods I'm not recommend , great service

Yelp
This place is fun. Rattan chairs and nautical decorations (ropes, anchors, etc) combined with sombreros on the wall, make for a fun, south of the border, island atmosphere. The service was excellent. Our waiter was so funny and attentive. He even hung up my coat on their coat rack! He made jokes, and was kind and efficient. The staff gave the place a very friendly vibe. The food was pretty good. I wouldn't say it was fantastic, but nothing was bad. My dining companions all really seemed to like their food, so maybe I just didn't order right. I will definitely go back and try again because it was such a fun place. The guacamole was good, and my friends seemed to love their nachos, so maybe that's the way to go! They have huge cocktails that I was worried might be sugary and awful, but were actually pretty tasty. The one I ordered said it had fresh coconut in it, and I think it actually did! My friend loved her bowl drink. Their beer selection is mostly Mexican options, and they have a few local beers, too. Overall, this was a fun place to spend an evening with friends.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is delicious! I ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp, shrimp ceviche tostada, and the carne supreme nachos, and the tres leches cake. Everything was phenomenal! I loved in Baja California for most of my life and this is truly authentic to Mexican food not to be confused to New Mexican food because they are very Different! I'll be back here time and time again because the food was great even after the 40 minute drive to get my take out home. I can't wait to try eating it there cause if it's that good as take out then I know eating in will be as good as it gets! Also I loved the salsas. The red was perfection! And the green was pretty good too! I'll update y'all when I try the shrimp Diablo and siete mares as well cause I'm eyeballing those too!
google avatar

Yelp
Walking into the restaurant the entrance was dirty and had plastic and pieces of paper just laying on the floor hadn't been cleaned in quite a while. We were seated and greeted pretty quickly. We had a table of 4 and ordered some appetisers that came out before we ordered our meal. The service on getting our drinks and appetisers were kind of slow but overall the food was great and we were not in a rush. Ordered Fajitas for my self and Oysters as an appetiser which were amazing. They didn't't have Cocktail sauce and they staff was baffled when we asked for Ketchup and Horse Radish and some limes, Made our own right there at the table and it was great. For the experience it could have been a little better and had faster service. The Bar took quite a while to make 2 margaritas. Overall it was a good experience and because of the food quality I did give it a higher rating.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the few restaurants in the city that will sit a large family/party quickly. Definitely the place you want to eat at if you are the normal, Hispanic family with a party of children and adults of mixed generation, extended family, etc. As we like to eat out with our Abuelos, Tio/as, siblings and children. Mariscos offers some of the most delicious and unique drinks. The ambience is nice, some great walls. You could take some Instagram pics here for sure. Usually have somebody singing or mariachi too. The owner is extremely nice and is always very helpful. Food comes out quickly and hot. I would recommend eating something on the menu with seafood as that is their specialty! It's disappointing when people order the odd items on the menu and then are disappointed. It's like going to a steakhouse and ordering fish. Eat ceviche! Or fajitas, you can never go wrong with fajitas!
google avatar

Benito V.

Yelp
Food is good but they need to change the fry oil so the fried food is not a dark brown but a great looking and appealing yet cooked fish shrimp and more. The service was good but they do need more wait staff to have happy customers and wanting to come back. I would consider going back in a month or so! The Ambiance is ok they need to consider sweeping and having the floors and under the tables and booths and seats and benches cleaned to be able to really enjoy there food and drinks and the company of others! The 3 star rating is as good as I would give this place it should be a 2 star but I am not a fan of it but for all who read this enjoy it if you feel it is good for you!! I will not be going back to put up with dark brown walnut color fried food !! No for those who will think about what I just stated I worked in the food business and as a consumer I will not tolerate this and you as a consumer should not as well , look elsewhere there are great places that do care about there customers!

Yelp
This place is delicious. Great Mexican food and great seafood. Get the whole fish. It's absolutely fire.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm giving this Resturant 4 stars only because of the decor it looks like a Mexican Resturant took over a seafood Resturant. That said the food was excellent, the waiter prompt. We were sat quickly and the place was large enough to accommodate large parties. Definitely worth a visit.

Melissa E.

Yelp
We went here after looking for a recommendation on Yelp. This place was very close to the motel we stayed at so that was a plus. I figured it would be like every other Mexican restaurant, but it wasn't. The food here is amazing! We had chicken enchiladas and shrimp enchiladas and they were delicious, a little bit spicy and very filling with the beans and rice. The ambiance was good and the service was excellent. We didn't have drinks, but the drinks we saw at other tables looked yummy. I will definitely go back when passing through town again.
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely delicious from start to finish! The Ocean Water Fish Bowl was a tropical treat & was like having 2 drinks in 1 - thanks bartender ;) WOW were the Flaming Oysters incredible! If you can handle spicy these are savory in flavor with a kick! This was the first time I've ever mixed Seafood & Mexican together & it was surprisingly amazing! The Shrimp & Crab Green Chile Enchiladas were so yummy & satisfied each kind of taste bud, plus kept me full!! The customer service was wonderful as well. I definitely would recommend Mariscos's, & we'll be back!!!

Yelp
Mariscos Altamar 1517 Coors Blvd NW, Albuquerque NM 87121 May 30, 2021 Sunday- 5:15 PM  for dinner 2 Adults Atmosphere - N/A stars Food - 5 stars Service - 5 stars Background - Finished a long day of driving and crashing in the hotel room.  I do not know how I missed this place on Yelp.  I am blaming day 2 of driving long distances.  My wife found the place listed in the hotel restaurant suggestion page. Atmosphere - Not rating this as I only experienced the parking lot.  The parking lot sucked, different height levels, and the ability to reach the pickup window is a challenge.  The pick up window was probably an afterthought due to COVID. Food - I love burritos. To top it off they can be fried, making it a chimichanga.  A beef chimichanga please.  The chimichanga filled with shredded beef, quality meat and zero filler.  Some spices and that is it.  This was a very filling meal.  Guacamole was a side with the chimichanga.  Simply amazing.  I could have just ate that with some tortilla chips and been happy. Service - Placing the phone call was easy.  Pick up was easy except it took a while to notice me at the pick up window.  I do not think they have bell device to notify a car has arrived. Future - Love too, but not living in ABQ might be hard.

Yelp
A very unassuming place. It was walkable from our hotel, and who doesn't love a good Margarita! We were seated right away. Elizabeth was our server. She was very personable and attentive. We ordered the Cadillac Margarita. Delicious! The salsas were both very hot. Our server offered to bring some enchilada sauce instead. It was a perfect substitute. Our food arrived promptly. I had the Shrimp Tacos. Hubby had the Seafood Platter. Both were great on flavor! We ordered another Margarita and the Tres Leches Cake. The cake was melt-in-your-mouth scrumptious! Highly recommend eating here. I hope we are back in the area soon and can eat here again!

Yelp
Food was amazing as always !!!! The civiche nachos were amazing!! Can't wait to come back and order 4 more nachos

Yelp
I've been coming for years!!! The shrimp enchiladas never disappoints. I don't remember the name of my coconut with tequila drink but it was delicious. Chips and salsa are always a pluse in book. This place is full on the weekends. On Sundays they Mariachis playing.

Yelp
Ugh! I guess I have high standards? Please...go somewhere else. Torta is terrible! Burrito is bland. I can't.
google avatar

Brittany M.

Yelp
Highly recommend the ceviche nachos and a fishbowl (Tokyo tea) or a Cantarito! Always a good place for a drink after work!

Mark H.

Yelp
Service was excellent and the food was outstanding! I did feel like I was in a Dennys but the food was awesome!

Yelp
Honestly, I don't even know where to begin! My friend and I love this place, it is our go-to! The staff is on top of things, friendly, and always so welcoming. The food will leave you so satisfied. We typically share a dozen fresh oysters. they are fresh, large in size, and taste so good! I usually get shrimp (in a tomato sauce) refried beans, rice and tortillas. They're refried beans are my favorite in town. I cannot say enough good about this place. If you haven't been, it's a must try!

Darlene C.

Yelp
Eat here often. Today went with 10 other women. Our waiter was excellent, food and drinks were excellent. Didn't rush us out, got separate checks, all was great.
google avatar

Corina F.

Yelp
Easy plentiful parking, cold beer chips and salsa. The menu has a variety of options for seafood cooked in several styles. Prices are decent about $15 a person. The service was great from the moment we walked in and our waitress had a good sense of humor. It has been remodeled from the last time we were here and is more open with outdoor seating.
google avatar

Paulette D.

Yelp
Came here with a group of four we were sat promptly and offered water. We ordered drinks that arrived in a timely fashion. Our server was really kind and we had a nice time chatting with him throughout the meal. We ordered carne asada, sea bass with garlic and mushrooms and the 2 combo of a chile relleno and a cheese enchilada. The two who ordered the asada were both very pleased and finished the plate. The meat was tender and had a nice flavor and mixed with the veggies was perfect and filling. The fish was cooked well and had a nice flavor and well as the combo. The rice and beans need some work. They were both completely tasteless and the texture of the beans was a little off. All in all a positive experience!
