Mariscos Choix Review - Downey - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"With locations in Downey and Pico-Rivera, Mariscos Choix is our go-to spot for Sinaloa-style mariscos. Known for its aguachiles, meaty scallops, and Asian influences, Sinaloa has a strong seafood tradition that is unique from other Mexican regions. Our personal favorite here is their massive tostada de callo de hacha, also known as fresh scallop ceviche. This dish is a full-body detox disguised as a seafood feast, and while the scallops are silky smooth, the chiltepin packs a serious punch that always has us sweating, mouth breathing, and craving more all at once. And if that’s not enough, Mariscos Choix prepares a separate chiltepin salsa on the side that’s also seriously addicting and goes excellent on fresh scallops. Food Rundown Tostada de Callo de Hacha This scallop tostada is refreshing, with plenty of lime juice, buttery smooth scallops, chopped cucumbers, and red onion slices. However, the chitepín pepper sprinkled on top packs a serious kick that may or may not make your eyes water (in a good way). Aguachile Besides being one of the biggest aguachiles we’ve come across in LA, the dish’s butterflied raw shrimp has a slight chewiness to it after being lightly cured in the citrusy salsa verde marinade. The sauce also has a wonderful sourness that balances out its serrano chile heat. Get this to share with whoever is lucky enough to join you here. Tacos de Gobernador These griddled tacos are addictively good with their sweet-spicy chipotle salsa, oozing melted cheese, and shrimp filling. They’re very decadent and the crispy corn tortilla creates just the right amount of crunch as it holds all the cheese and shrimp inside. You can also add carne asada to these, but we think the shrimp really holds its own here. Coctel de Camaron The stock in this big shrimp coctel has a strong vegetable flavor that compliments the shellfish, cucumber, onion, and slices of creamy avocado. Overall, this coctel has a good amount of tang and acidity, with the chiltepín topping throwing an unexpected punch of heat." - Sylvio Martins

This place was less than mid. The food was nothing to rave about, I really don’t get the hype of this place. My parents have been here quite a few times but this time our party was 4 adults and 1 child. Customer service was great but we got a $53 mandatory tip tacked on and I’d be happy to pay that if the restaurant offered a fancy and unique experience. Drinks are expensive and again, nothing special. A simple lemonade costs $10! A small margarita was $15. Overall, I think it was very overpriced given that the food and drinks were barely mid. The only thing I can say was great, was our server, Margarita. She was very attentive but anyone would expect great service if you are paying $53 in tip. I personally would not be back. I’ve tried many other places that have delicious food and reasonable prices.

The food was delicious and the service was amazing. It’s a small place but the server was very friendly. We had the camarones a la diabla, NY steak fajitas, “sin nombre” sushi roll, a ceviche, and the kids had chicken nuggets. The michelada was delicious.

I ordered so much food it's hard to list it all here, but the highlight of the night was Margarita, she made the night worthwhile. Her customer service along with the delicious food was a perfect combination for a Friday night. I recommend the Sushi and the Mariscos. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu everything was so fresh. Thanks to Margarita me and my friend Samuel are coming back often!

We had such a wonderful experience here! The service from Lily was excellent—she was attentive, kind, and made us feel so welcome. The general manager also checked in on us, which made our visit feel even more special. The mariscos were incredibly fresh and flavorful, some of the best I’ve had. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. I fully recommend this restaurant and will definitely be coming back!

It was our first time and they didn't disappoint us. Monique our server was VERY polite and professional. She provided us with great food choices. We ordered the octopus tacos, marlin empanadas, shrimp, & the golden shrimp roll. All the seafood tasted fresh. OH!! Gotta try the Jasmin tea & their house lemonade...

Food and service was awesome. George did a wonderful job, attending to my wife and I. Our first visit. George tour guided my wife and I through the menu and dietary restrictions. I ordered Tacos De Pescado, Marlin Empanadas and my wife ordered whole wild fried Talapia. Great first experience. We visited the Mariscos Choix in Pico Rivera. I also love the fact, the Pico Rivera store is a fusion with brunch items such as French toast, sushi and typical American style desserts as bread pudding. No dessert this time. Maybe next time. No room in the stomach.

Parking was simple. Wait time for the weekday is great. Weekend does get a tad bit busy. The staff is super friendly. They have a jukebox so you may request music. The food was delicious. Price wise was ok.

Came here on a Saturday night, 40 minutes before they closed. Luckily they still let us sit and order. I got the scallop (calo de hacha) tostada and a michelada. The tostada had great spicy flavor but I feel there wasn't enough scallops on their for the price. The scallops are fresh and not fishy. Under the scallops there was a bunch of diced cucumber. The michelada also had good flavor but I don't think it had a full beer in it. The service was great, our server was very attentive.

They were having issues with the phone so we had to go and drive up there and order the food. We want to think it was because of the internet. Because they usually answer. But it's sooooo worth the drive! The mariscos and sushi are fire !!! the tostada rebelde and the guachimilito sushi are my go to! Love it here ! The place Is always clean and the music is always good. The staff is friendly and very willing to help out.

We have been here a few times and we always order something different so I can confidently say that you can't go wrong with anything at this restaurant! The food is so delicious, bursting with flavor, and made fresh to order. Fresh mariscos and yummy drinks to pair with it! A favorite of mine is their octopus tacos.. unique and amazing! The service is always fast and friendly. They can get busy and their parking lot is rather small so you make have to look for street parking. The restaurant itself has limited indoor seating and a small patio in the front but the ambiance is nice.

I am so happy I got to try this place out. The indoor seating is on the smaller side, but there's plenty of outdoor patio seating. I also really enjoyed the service here!! Maracuya Margarita - let's be honest, I got this because the drink is fuchsia. It's fuchsia and has some spice sprinkled on the side of the drink. Very memorable. Aguachile verdes - The shrimp is so fresh, but really the entire dish is fresh. Baked seafood dynamite - I wanted to try the sushi here and why not get it the baked dynamite. So good and a nice mix to the mariscos. Tacos Sinaloenses - This was so good. The shrimp, cheese, avocado go so well with the crispy taco. There's a small parking lot in the back or street parking.

We went in with our service dog and was told, he was not allowed. The law says different, they they changed their mind and said they would put us on the waiting list to sit outside. They would not accommodate us inside, the dog was not allowed inside. Needless to say, we will never do or recommend that restaurant ever!!!! Discrimination !!!!!!!!

Our first time visiting this establishment in Pico Rivera. My husband said the food was good in taste and the serving size of his tostada mixta was really good. He also liked the empanadas de camarón, but would have liked a bit more shrimp. I ordered the lobster taquitos they were good, but I was not satisfied with just the three tacos cut in half. Maybe a side salad would have been a good side to complete the meal. Service was excellent, friendly and courteous. Music was loud, but allowed for great conversation.

The location is small, casual and very clean. We sat down in front of the door that leads to the kitchen. We were able to see the dishes people ordered and they all looked mouth watering. Our waiter was very nice, insightful and attentive. She asked us if we liked spice on certain dishes and recommended things to be put on the side so we could enjoy the food. We appreciated the attention to detail! This is what we ordered; - tacos de pulpo 10/10 - tacos de pescado 10/10 - tacos de camarón 7/10 - aguachiles con camarón cosido y chile negro 100/10 - tostada de pulpo con jaiva 9/10 - horchata (free refills) Every plate was fresh, tasteful and good quality. Will be coming back!

The food is so delicious here!! We ordered the aguachiles, the Baja shrimp tacos, and the tostada de ceviche Cameron. The Baja shrimp tacos and the aquChiles were 10/10. The ceviche was good too but the others were my favorite. The servers were also very friendly and helpful. Our server Monique was very nice. The restaurant is really small and just a heads up, the menus are all in Spanish. But I can't wait to go back!! The food was so so good :)

The food is always delicious, we have come a handful of times all the way from the bay and it is always amazing. The portions are big and the quality and ingredients are great. The flavor is outstanding and not to mention the staff. They are always so attentive and Veronica has always treated us kindly when we visit. Definitely a must try!!

I've lived in Pico Rivera for 60 years and this is the first time I saw this restaurant. Out of town family selected it off of their Yelp reviews and they did not disappoint. We were greeted as we walked in, there was plenty of parking and we were seated right away. Service was on point and Monique was very attentive and helpful with our selections. I wish I could give more stars because the food was off the chain amazing and we will definitely be going back!

The food was ok really over priced but very photogenic. The service was above average but the waiter was very nice even letting me sit outside despite the fact that no one else was sitting there. The ambiance is nice and again very photogenic but that's kind of it. Overall this spot is nice but the prices are too high and the food tasted average. P.S. the one thing I really liked was the Limonada Preparada

We came here for the first time today after craving mariscos and it did not disappoint! Our servicer Margarita was super nice and accommodating. We had the Aguachiles Negro, Baja Fish Tacos and tacos sinaloenses - all 10/10! The manager working was also checking in and recommended the best dishes. We'll definitely be back!!

We got a variety of different thing 3 different tostadas, a ceviche, and octopus tacos. All of it was very good. Waitress was really nice and helpful. We are from out of town and found this place and the pictures made it look like it was worth a shot and they did not disappoint. Outside seating was nice and warm with fire and heating lamps.

It was recommended we try this place for dinner, and I esp was craving Mariscos. It's authentic Sinaloa style here, which I've never had and let me just say... this place is nothing short but amazing! What a hidden gem! We ordered soup and a tostada mixta. The soup had fresh fish, along with crag legs and oysters. Super fresh! You can taste how fresh it is from first sip. We were supposed to share it but I wanted it for myself! Lol The tostada mixta was about 3 inches high with super fresh fish. My Latino boyfriend was very impressed by this place, and he's super picky. The prices here are a little high, but we didn't mind paying extra. The ambience is nice outside as well, along with the service. The waitress was a sweetheart. Please check this place out! This is a true gem in Pico!

Love the tacos. Only giving five stars since the dude gave me tostadas and salsa to start off as a complimentary appetizer that you don't have to pay for. Priced like Coachella food with their $23 for 3 shrimp tacos, but I'll admit, they are very good with the sauce or seasoning that I have never tried in regular shrimp avocado tacos.

Gave this place 3 stars because food is over priced and our lady server did not seem friendly or happy. Would say she could've been having a bad day but she seemed happier serving the guys. Food was good, but I ordered 3 shrimp with cheese tacos no beans or rice for $21 smh. I honestly didn't know how much this place would be. I just looked up the closest Mariscos, assuming they would be like 3 to 4 dollars a taco. Not to mention they charged my sister a $10 for a large lemonade(was is a shrimp cocktail glass) Server told us there is no kids drink size. There was a guy there not sure if he's the manager but he was nice. Not going back.

I've been here so many times since I moved to Whittier. It's my boyfriend's and I favorite spot and we've both brought our friends and family to try! Service is great and quick. Everything always tastes so fresh and they have the absolute best chile. This place serves the best shrimp ceviche!!

Wait staff. Awesome and attentive. Host. Quietly charming. Decor is inviting, and warm with a jungle charm. Food tasty, fresh, crisp and decadent (except pulpo). Problem. Price. Unfortunately it is overpriced by about 30% for each meal. Wonderfully marinated seafood for $40? Cheesy, crisp shrimp tacos (3) for $21? Additionally, the octopus needed to be broken down further and marinated, or charred in some capacity to build the flavor profile. What we had was slightly chewy and flavorless. Overall, come and have drinks. Buy food if you have the spare cash to throw around.

Here's Visited for the first time and was thoroughly impressed! We ordered the fish taco, fajita mista, and ceviche, along with some beer and lemonade. The fish taco was perfectly crispy with fresh, flavorful toppings, and the fajita mista came sizzling hot with a great mix of meats and veggies. The ceviche was fresh and zesty, the perfect blend of citrus and spice. The drinks were refreshing and just what we needed. The service was exceptional--attentive, friendly, and quick. This spot is a gem, and we'll definitely be coming back!

Such good little hole in the wall!! Small restaurant but great food. Not ideal for large parties! The tacos de marlin are so so good . So flavorful and delicious. Very smoky in flavor. The chips and salsa are good. The house made salsa is delicious as well! I recommend this place. Nice servers too!

The food here is very good and the service is always friendly and attentive. Small restaurant and no frills but I prefer this one to the Downey location by far. THIS one has the sushi rolls which I really enjoy. The tacos gobernador are tasty...and yes the culichi style sushi rolls are really good.

I was there on 7/27. Upon arrival we were greeted by smiles and good vibes. We sat down immediately; we chose the patio. Our server was Liliana. She was so sweet and helpful. We got the ceviche mitotero which she recommended (great portion for 2 people). It was really good. The micheladas are huge and perfect for this hot summer. At the end of the visit, the manager table touched and asked us a few questions about the visit. Overall, I would definitely come back here and try other things.

Great food! We love having breakfast here on the weekends, huevos rancheros are the best! This weekend we had Monique as our server and have to say she is such a wonderful young woman. Everyone is always so attentive and nice here.

YUMMY!!!!! I came here on a weekend day, so parking was not easy to find. Although they do have their own parking, which is small, so we had to park on the street, which was not easy but we managed. They were pretty quick to seat us down, and we sat outside which was great, since it was a sunny beautiful day. Outside they do have a TV, so don't worry folks you will be able to enjoy sports while you eat. The patio has shade so you don't really have to worry about the sun, as much. Drinks are pretty big, I did not need any refills as one time was enough. Their homemade lemonade was just delicious and fresh. When coming here we ordered a ceviche tostada and mixed tostada. One was honestly enough for me with the addition of saltine crackers (my preference and so delicious), it had a lot of ceviche on it, you could honestly order an additional tostada by itself and can make two. The flavor was just tasty, everything felt balanced. The only thing that maybe I did not like but it's understandable with it being seafood is the pricing. The pricing I'm in MY personal opinion was a bit high, but hey, the quality of their food is worth it. It is quite a small place inside and outside, so just be mindful on the day you go, as it will be packed. But overall I recommend any seafood lovers to try it out!

This is great seafood. We tried a little bit of everything here. We started with oyster and botana de camarón con pulpo. I ordered the shrimp fajitas, my party ordered tostada de agua Chile, fillet de Choix, and the Tierra y Mar tacos. Everything was delicious. I asked everyone how their dishes were and heard nothing but positive things. The service was amazing, lily was great! We sat outside in the patio so we had a nice calm conversation in a quiet environment. The air was chilly but they had heaters and I brought a sweater. I'm definitely coming back.

The shrimp tacos was oily from having the tortilla fried! My meal lacked flavor. Overpriced and a loud environment. The tables were too small to hold three medium size plates. Remove the hot sauce that is taking up too much room!!!! The waiters were very pleasant and the food came out a a respectable time. I don't recommend this place and will NOT RETURN!
