LA’s New Restaurant Openings

"Setting up a mariscos spot near the steep competition in Boyle Heights seems like a bold move, but that’s exactly what Mariscos El Cata is doing. This East LA seafood stall inside East Los Tacos specializes in Sinaloan-style aguachiles, fish burritos, surf and turf quesatacos, and shrimp-heavy tostadas. There’s also a small shelf of housemade salsas for garnishing, including a habanero-piña one." - cathy park

Google
If you’re looking for the best mariscos in East LA, look no further. The seafood is fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. from their mouthwatering aguachiles to their deliciously loaded tostadas. You can taste the quality in every bite! The atmosphere is lively, the service is fast and friendly, and the portions are generous. Whether you’re craving a refreshing michelada or some fire ceviche, this spot doesn’t disappoints. Hands down, one of the best seafood spots in LA! Highly recommend I’ll definitely be coming back for more!

Yelp
Ate here earlier this month. Seemed like the business was quite new. Mariscos El Cata is located inside a food hall and shares space with other businesses including East Los Tacos. Tried the Aguachile Negro and several tacos including Taco del Cata and Taco Gobernador. The aguachile came in a large portion to share and was very delicious! The shrimp (raw) tasted fresh and the marinade had a nice, smoky, acidic flavor. Tacos are more expensive than your standard East LA tacos, but they were quite large so I thought they were fairly priced. Enjoyable visit - will try it again!

Yelp
Best Seafood of my life. I review many restaurants and enjoy seafood. This place is truly Next Level. Service is excellent. They make you feel like your home. In one of my trips to Baja California, a friend invited me to try this place out, only to discover this hidden gem of Sinaloa Style seafood. El Cata - the owner, and his staff will go out of their way to make sure you have the best experience while at Mariscos El Cata

Yelp
Amazing aguachile. Recommend to get with salsa negra. Freshes seafood I had in a while and cool food hall with a lot of seating

Yelp
If you're looking for fresh, flavorful mariscos with authentic taste, El Cata is a must visit. Every dish has vibrant flavors. from their perfectly seasoned ceviches to the rich aguachile. The seafood is incredibly fresh, the presentation is on point, and you can taste the passion in every bite. Whether you're a mariscos connoisseur or just diving into Baja-style seafood for the first time, El Cata delivers an experience that feels both elevated and true to its roots. Definitely worth the visit. W/ family Friendly service.

Yelp
We went on Friday March 7 th to have dinner I ordered a fish taco and a pulpo taco. They both were very good. My wife and the rest of our group ordered the shrimp campechana. The shrimp was raw and the shrimp that was cooked was deveined. Everyone of our group ordered the campechana got sick. They all came down with stomach cramps and diarrhea. It's Monday the 10th and my wife is still sick. I don't recommend this restaurant. I'm glad I didn't have any of shrimp campechana.

Yelp
I generally don't rush to write reviews unless something was totally awesome or awful. Unfortunately this experience was awful. We went here yesterday to grab lunch since we had to go to the County Recorders Office down the street. Ordered a couple of tacos and fish ceviche. The tacos seemed pretty expensive (over $7.00 each) for an East LA taco shop so I asked if there were unusually large. I was told, "yes, they were really big". When they came out they were not really big. Maybe slightly larger than some tacos but it was almost all pico de gallo. The "taco Gobernador" was horrible tasting. El Torito has these tacos on their menu and you get 3 or 4 for a couple bucks more and they are delicious. The fish ceviche was truly the worst I have ever had and I've been eating ceviche for decades. The fish taco was ok but like everything else, it was smothered in pico de gallo that didn't taste good or fresh. We only ordered from the mariscos menu (they actually have a different cash register that you have to order from if you are buying mariscos which was weird...what if you are ordering mariscos and non-mariscos? But my point if that we didn't try anything that wasn't seafood so maybe that is better. I want to be fair. But the combination of awful food (my stomach was messed up afterwards) and high prices made this a very bad experience.
