I recently dined at Marisco and Submarino, and I can honestly say it was an unforgettable experience! The ceviche was hands down the best I’ve ever tasted—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The tacos were equally amazing, bursting with vibrant flavors that left me wanting more. To top it all off, their selection of tequila and margaritas is everything you could wish for. Each sip was a delight, complementing the delicious food perfectly. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, thanks in large part to the incredible staff. The manager Fernando was especially kind and attentive, making sure every detail of our dining experience was on point. I absolutely recommend Marisco and Sub Marino for anyone craving authentic Mexican flavors in a welcoming environment. You won’t be disappointed!

This is definitely my favorite new restaurant in Jersey City and we are lucky to have Mariscos el Submarino in our backyard! Mexican seafood is amazing and this place has fresh, fairly priced, and excellent quality food with a spicy kick - all served with a smile. After several visits, we have tried: shrimp cocktail, which was spectacular with a good portion even for the small version, with a tangy sauce and avocado; an out-of-this-world good tuna tostada; and yummy fish, shrimp, and craken (octopus/pulpo) tacos. The craken got the best reactions of the tacos we’ve tried. I also love the caldo de camarón, especially on a chilly day. Cocktails are great, too. The mezcal margarita with passion fruit was tasty, not too sweet, and refreshing, I’d love to see a pineapple option. The paloma is also a good drink. Service is super friendly, genuine, and efficient. Servers are proud of the excellent food they bring to the table. Next visit we will try the camarones Zarandeados, the grilled shrimp look mouthwatering on the menu. Last tip: a medley of hot sauces is on each table. Try the habanero with pineapple salsa, it’s so good that we bought a bottle to take home with us.

10/10 menu. i’ve ordered almost everything & nothing ever disappoints. the staff is so friendly and attentive. joao and christian both are so special 💗 my favorite menu items are the grilled shrimp, octopus guacamole, the shrimp burger, and the oysters are so fresh. seafood heavy menu but it’s all fresh and delicious. get the steak tacos if you don’t wanna have a seafood overload :) thank you guys!

We have been meaning to check it out for awhile and we were not disappointed! Everything was fresh and flavorful. The staff were very friendly helping us with the menu and with their recommendations. This place can a place for a quick bite or relaxing spot for eating with friends/family.

Currently our new obsession. Been back several times now. The foods amazing. Good portion, amazing quality, the cocktails so delicious and the service is top notch. Everyone is so welcoming. We came back the other night and Fernando was so divine. Great place for date night as well!

The food was great. Service was to the top. I had the caldo de camaron and it was delicious. Sorry I forgot to take the picture but it was great. Drinks were just right. I had the strawberry margarita. My husband had the shrimp quesadilla and tacos de pulpo. My daughter had the dozen season shrimp. Would definitely come back and recommend.

Edit: (I went again recently craving the steak taco and tried all the other tacos on the menu, it was so good! Each one is unique and the soft homemade tortilla wraps it up so nicely. I also tried the El Submarino ceviche and it was so fresh and jalapeños added a good spice. Washed it all down with a modelo.) Just stopped in for the La Exotica and Fish Tacos(Pescado). I’ll start by saying the fish/shrimp/octopus, and tuna tasted so fresh and the spice gave it a nice kick! It’s a lot of food and looks incredible so for two people it was filling. I appreciated the homemade tortilla on my fish taco. The fried fish was so soft, airy and crispy. I added some hot sauce half way thru for more heat. They have a bar as well so I got a corona with lime and made the meal that much better. The atmosphere was casual and the food was 10/10. The service was also really friendly. I would recommend this to others.

I’m Mexican… and this place made me feel home! So nostalgic!!! The music, the setting and the menu! Food is authentic and fantastic… go for the Kraken tacos! Mind blowing! If you don’t like spicy hot food, stay away, but if you like being burning hot and wanting more… go for it!!

Food (5/5): Wow such an amazing Mexican seafood place. The aguachile, octopus tacos, ceviche grilled shrimp, and all were delicious. Only issue was that the aguachile was very spicy even though I have very high spice tolerance. But overall still tasted great. My favorite was the grilled shrimp. Not sure what they did but I've still been thinking about it. Service (5/5): We came as a large group of 8 and they were able to gracefully make space by coordinating with another party. The food came at a good pace and overall friendly service. Ambiance (5/5): You can tell this place is legit by the vibe and the fact that the menu is in Spanish. Not the fanciest interior but still nice decor and good music. Gives you a bit of a chill, beachside vibe in Jersey City.

Went here for dinner and we got in at just the right time. It gets really busy and by the time we were seated, there was a line outside already. The Ceviche tropical was a great starter. I actually saved the sauce so I could use it on my tacos. Perfect hint of heat. The Sinaloa tostada was also fantastic. We had a variety of tacos but the Gobernador was my favorite. Also, there is quite the selection of hot sauces on the table and the habanero one with pineapple was my favorite! Will come back again to try more items on the menu!

La comida tan fresca y llena de sabor como si la preparo mamá. I ordered 1/2 dozen of oysters, one octopus taco, the craken, and El submarino ceviche; good amount of food plus the friendly energy from the employees made this good experience. For those who dont trust much, You can actually see the young man making las tortillas right from your table and they have Square machines which they bring to you for you to pay, you dont have to give your credit/debit card away. Sorry I didnt take pictures, i was so hungrrrry.

Loved it! This is a new spot-only 3 months old. Great food and service. Very authentic and homemade tortillas on their tacos. This place is all about seafood. I got ceviche with shrimp and fish so tasty with lime and red onions. The steak taco was excellent- first time I can say one of the best tortillas ever. Grilled shrimp was very good. And the inside was great too- tender steak and filled with toppings. We tried the green sauce aguachiles. This is like a cold soup- the broth was green and creamy tasting of lime and cilantro. Really amazing flavor. 100% returning to finish sampling more of the menu. Recommend for great ceviche and standout tacos. Also tried the mango margarita with mezcal. Refreshing. Service was great. Christian was very helpful in navigating the menu.

Prior to feasting on Mexican seafood in Mexico, we decided to get the teaser version at cult favorite Mariscos El Submarino. What's not to love? The Aguachile Mixto Verde came in a super-sized mortar (more like a stone cauldron) filled with fresh, generous cuts of fish and shrimp, all swimming in a chilled broth of lime-flavored glory. It was everything you could want in an aquachile, and if you don't finish it with tears of happiness brimming in your eyes, you have no sole. If you loooove tuna tostada as much as I do, you'd be disservicing yourself by not getting La Consentida, which comes packed with salsa macha--not to be confused with the over-exposed Japanese powdered green tea, macha is essentially Mexican Lao Gan Ma (chili crisp oil) but with peanuts instead of garlic crisps. Mariscos' version is an ample marriage of spicy, crispy, fresh, and umami, and I would happily eat this every day for the rest of my life. Finally, we got a half dozen of the Camarones Zarandeados, which were perfectly grilled and lightly seasoned. Unless you're allergic to shrimp, I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't get a platter of these beauties. Mmmm......shramp!

Run, don't walk. Everything was so fresh and so delicious. Mariscos has a few locations in NY and I'm so happy that they finally opened in NJ! The space is bright and inviting. At noon on a Friday there were plenty of tables, and it was no problem to pull two tables together for our group. The first thing I noticed was the full bar! East Flour used to be in this space and did not have a liquor license, so it was an exciting surprise to see one. After all, who doesn't want a cold beer to wash down some spicy ceviche? The menu is a little overwhelming because there are so many options, from ceviches to aquachile to tostada and tacos. We started off with a green aquachile which came served in a huge mocalate and had so much fresh shrimp and octopus. The guacamole was also standout. For mains we tried a bunch of things like tacos, ceviche, a shrimp burger and some tostadas. We ate so much and literally nothing was a miss. The tacos are a bit small, but all other portions were huge. The tostada is basically an an entire ceviche portion on top of a tortilla shell. I really enjoyed everything and it'll be hard to avoid coming back next time I'm in JC.

When my friends suggested we meet at Mariscos El Submarino, I asked, "Is that like a fish sandwich shop?" (Like an idiot.) It's not. It's a Mexican gem that specializes in seafood. Ceviches, aguachiles (I'm not entirely clear on the difference), tostadas, caldos, tacos...the menu is huge, and all in Spanish, but just about everything we ordered was delicious, so if you don't know Spanish, just point and you can't really go wrong. Just kidding, it's 2025. My younger counterparts clued me in that I didn't have to spend decades learning Spanish food words because now you can just use Google Lens and it will literally just translate the menu right before your eyes. Science, bitch. Truly, just about everything was outstanding. The only thing that was just OK was the ribeye taco, so I would stick with the seafood. After all, Mariscos is right there in the name. Things I Would Highly Recommend (basically anything with shrimp): 1. The Rosarito tostada (has shrimp). 2. The camarón taco (camarón means shrimp). 3. The hamburguesa (it's a shrimp burger). 4. The ceviche tropical (has shrimp). 5. The aguachile verde (again, shrimp). 6. Bringing five friends so you can share lots of stuff (mostly shrimp). 7. Making one of those friends bring her new baby because she's the cutest (little camarón that you ever did see).

Mariscos El Submarino is a recent and very welcomed addition to downtown JC. It's close to the Path (so if you are coming in from the city or another neighborhood, it's incredibly easy), has plenty of seating, a full bar, and an incredible menu. Our group stopped in for lunch on a weekday and had no trouble getting a table. We started with the guacamole and aguachiles verde. The aguachiles, which was basically like a Mexican ceviche, was a big portion and a great starter for a group. It definitely had a little kick to it, so beware if you don't love spice. I got two tacos, "the cracken" which was octopus and a "pescado" fish taco. Loved both of them but would absolutely need to get the octopus taco again on my next visit. My friend ordered the Rosarito tostada and just the towering pile of seafood that came out had everyone's eyes wide. It was so tasty and probably one of my favorite bites of the meal. If you are looking for a new taco/seafood spot, this is a place to try.

I had heard about Mariscos El Submarino and read the reviews form their original location in Jackson Heights. When it opened in Jersey City. I knew I had to visit. We tried the aguafresco negro, ceviche tostada, and all the tacos except the ribeye. We loved everything. I think I'd like to order the aguafresca verde next time around. Make sure to try the ceviche tostada, which offers the same classic ceviche, but a smaller portion on a tostada. If you enjoy fresh seafood, ceviche', and margaritas, you have to pay the newest Mariscos el Submarino a visit.

Went for the first time today for lunch. It won't be the last time. Aquachile Verde, steak taco, octopus taco, and 1/2 dozen grilled shrimp was the order. Aquachile came with the freshest sauce packed with lime and cilantro with fresh fish, shrimp, and octopus just swimming inn that delicious green sauce. Steak and octopus tacos came simply dressed with cheese and the best corn tortilla I've ever had. Grilled shrimp was perfectly grilled and lightly seasoned to let the taste of the shrimp and the char on the shrimp shine through. Passion fruit margarita with mezcal to wash it all down was delicious. Service was great. Employees were warm and engaging. Lively music made the setting very festive. Food is from the Sinoloa region of Mexico and well worth the 40 minutes and difficulty parking.

Run, don't walk here! Mariscos is new to Jersey City, and as much as I want to gatekeep this place, it is too good not to share! Every single dish I got here, I was in heaven! The place itself is very casual. You seat yourself, and the servers come and get your order. The menu is in all spanish, but if you've taken Spanish 101, you'll be just fine figuring it out! They specialize in Mexican seafood dishes so that is exactly what I went for. I started out with the octopus (el gobernador) and shrimp (el enchilado) tacos. Both sets of seafood were so fresh! And of course, the tacos were out of this word. I also loved that there were so many hot sauces on the table to try, which elevated the tacos as well! I also go the ceviche tropical. Again, the seafood was incredibly fresh and I loved the kick this ceviche had. To finish, I went with the Michelada de la casa, which was also extremely spicy and tart. Overall, incredible experience! Be sure to check it out before they become popular and it is hard to find a seat here. I guarentee they will soon!

Imagine my surprise when I got here at noon when they opened and there was already a line out the door! Then when I left a couple hours later, the line was even longer!! This is probably because the food here is delicious, fresh, and unique for Jersey City! Ceviche-city now!! We tried the aquachiles, the guacamole, the octopus taco, the steak taco, the grilled shrimp and all of it had such great flavor!! I also really loved how chill it was inside, the servers were so nice, they didn't rush us, they brought everything out quickly, and we had a great experience! I'll definitely be back!!

A fun and vibrant seafood spot with solid flavors and a super friendly vibe. We tried the octopus and steak tacos -- both tender and tasty The ceviche tropical was a highlight: fresh shrimp, mango, and avocado in a bright, tangy sauce -- refreshing and flavorful. Loved the margarita, not too sweet, well-balanced. Oysters were decent, though slightly on the salty side. Service was warm, and the blue-white interior made the space feel very clean and breezy. Would come back for the ceviche and cocktails.

Service was outstanding! The food was delicious (highly suggest the Rosarito) and the drinks (Paloma w/ Mezcal) spot on! Only thing is the menu is in Spanish, so know it or have Google translate ready to go! Love it! Sorry the pics aren't in order

Genuinely everything was good BUT two orders were exceptionally spicy - the ceviche tropical and tuna tostada. I wasnt warned about the spice level - my dad just couldn't eat it; meanwhile I ate in tears. Also, the restaurant was cray busy so service was a bit slow. But again, the fish itself is delicious and fresh with great flavor, so I'd definitely recommend it and come back for other menu items.

Casual and fast dining spot! The tacos were soo good- I got the steak and octopus. The steaks had been charred so that it tasted almost crunchy. The fact that the cheese had been melted on was a nice touch and reminded me of shake shack's thin crunchy patty burgers. They drizzled a bit of spicy sauce on top which fit so well together. The octopus was absolutely amazing and something that is rare to find for that price in Jersey City. It was meaty so you really get your dollars worth. The ceviche plates were pretty big for about $15. I had always thought ceviche was more of an appetizer but you literally get an entire oval plate of ceviche with hard shelled tortillas which is pretty filling. I'd come try the burger next time

I was hype to finally try Mariscos El Submarinew's newly opened Jersey City location. I have wanted to eat here for years, but apparently not enough to trek out to Queens; finally, laziness pays off! We arrived around noon on a weekend and were seated right away. Our server explained the menu to us and pointed out the most popular dishes, which was very helpful since we wanted to order the hits. Our favorite dishes were El Gobernador taco, The Craken taco (octopus), Camarones Zarandeados (grilled shrimp), and La Consentida Tostada (tuna). We also had the ribeye steak taco and shrimp verde Aquachiles. We loved the aquachiles flavor, but didn't love the texture of the shrimp. I am looking forward to trying this dish again with fish instead of shrimp.

I was there 2 days ago and I'm already missing it. The place is brightly lit with a very casual atmosphere with white metal tables and chairs. Server was great, kind and patient, as I weighed my options. I went alone so couldn't try a bunch of dishes as I usually like to do. I got the La Chaparrita. It was a really sizable portion, and really fresh seafood!! Best ceviche dish I've had in a while (be warned though, it is pretty spicy). It contained cooked and raw shrimp, fish, octopus, cucumbers, topped with avocado and a fried shrimp thing. I wasn't a big fan of the fried shrimp, but the rest of the dish was absolutely amazing. I'll definitely be back whenever a seafood craving hits! Writing this review is making my mouth water, so I'll need to go back really soon.

Had Cerviche take out - could not believe how salty it was. Also, the raw tuna and shrimp were extremely fishy. Very disappointed and will not return

Visiting friends in JC and they recommended this place. It's a small cafe, new and clean. As others mentioned, menu is in Spanish, but google translate plus asking the waitress and we were fine. Originally I was going for the tropical cerviche, but I was distracted by these tall glasses of what looked like gaspacho. I was told they were coctales (shrimp cocktail) where shrimp were submerged in a spicy-sweet gaspacho you ate with a spoon. Amazing! I also had a shrimp taco and was completely satisfied. Friends got some other tacos and everybody was rolling their eyes in ecstasy at the fresh flavors. Not much for anybody who can't eat fish here. But for Mariscos fans, this is the place.

What a wonderful hidden gem! I had been reading about this place all over the internet and social media for quite a while- it was time to give it a try. My partner and I first tried La Exotica torre. It was delicious! The aguachile blended beautifully with the avocado and fresh tuna. For tacos, we got El Gobernador y la Costra. Both were delicious tasting. We were surprised they were served in two different styles. La costra was served like a normal Mexican taco, versus El Gobernador which was easily twice the size, twice the meat, and served like a quesadilla. Nothing on the menu distinguishes this. This may actually be a Mariscos menu hack!! Dive below the menu and find the best deals, haha! To wash these down we had a strawberry margarita (I had to ask for fresas as they are not on the menu), and un Pacifico beer. Both were delicious!! I thought it was bold to put tajin on the strawberry margarita rim without asking, but it ended up being alright. Some kudos to MES for serving Topo Chico from beautiful Monterrey! While the restaurant seemed full, there is adequate spacing between tables and parties that I never felt crowded. HUGE shoutout to the staff! Front of House staff is wonderful, and the kitchen staff give the place a name! I only saw three people making food in the kitchen for the whole restaurant. They were absolutely fabulous, looked to be making the food efficiently with care, and produced some very tasty eats! Definitely try out Mariscos El Submarino. I walked by wondering about it on many occasions, and am so happy I have finally stopped in to enjoy! Provecho!

The grilled shrimp was wonderful & I loved the octopus. Staff was friendly & helpful.

Amazing place! The food is so good and the prices are great. Our server was such a nice guy, he gave us great suggestions ! We even had our little talk about Mexican music. The guacamole was sooo good! We had a blast and will be back soon for sure. I also loved how clean is the place .

Tacos were good but they have no menus in English... ended up listening to to the waiters suggestion and no bueno

This place... is.... Insanely good. But I can't read the menu. But everything is good. So it doesn't matter.

Are these reviews serious and honest? Why would you open a restaurant investing thousands of dollars serving mediocre Mexican food and absolutely the worst customer service? Give it a try and I guarantee you won't be back if you have taste buds. They can't even make proper guacamole ... sooo SOUR. I can make better guacamole than that! When given the feedback about the food, they ask if we've ever had this kind of food before. Yes of course we have. Honestly, I'm more upset about the customer service than the inedible food. We had to go to another restaurant afterwards because we just couldn't eat the food as we were still hungry. Seeing that we had only 2 bites they just said sorry. No effort at all to make our experience a little better whatsoever. Advice to the owners: take this as constructive feedback, taste your own food and TRAIN your waiters/waitresses better how to handle customers better if you want to stay open in business otherwise you won't last long here. I don't recommend this place.

This place is excellent. Everything is fresh with plenty of vegetables. The octopus is excellent. Service was wonderful and friendly. Also, it's bigger than East Flour was so plenty of space to bring a group.

This place is a gem! I am obsessed. Every bite of every thing I ordered was a flavor party in my mouth. Run. Don't walk!

My son and I just went to this unassuming restaurant because of the menu which looked appetizing and the good reviews. The food was delicious and fresh. It is a stand out restaurant in Jersey City. Yes, the menu is all in Spanish but the waiter can help if you don't understand. Definitely coming back.

So so amazing! The tortillas were great and the seafood was very flavorful. Our server was a girl and she was so attentive and helpful. Will absolutely come back to eat at this location and try other items

Incredibly delicious food, delicious cocktails and super friendly staff. The interior is also bright with energy and the music is authentic. Highly recommend.
