When my friends suggested we meet at Mariscos El Submarino, I asked, "Is that like a fish sandwich shop?" (Like an idiot.)
It's not. It's a Mexican gem that specializes in seafood. Ceviches, aguachiles (I'm not entirely clear on the difference), tostadas, caldos, tacos...the menu is huge, and all in Spanish, but just about everything we ordered was delicious, so if you don't know Spanish, just point and you can't really go wrong.
Just kidding, it's 2025.
My younger counterparts clued me in that I didn't have to spend decades learning Spanish food words because now you can just use Google Lens and it will literally just translate the menu right before your eyes. Science, bitch.
Truly, just about everything was outstanding. The only thing that was just OK was the ribeye taco, so I would stick with the seafood. After all, Mariscos is right there in the name.
Things I Would Highly Recommend (basically anything with shrimp):
1. The Rosarito tostada (has shrimp).
2. The camarón taco (camarón means shrimp).
3. The hamburguesa (it's a shrimp burger).
4. The ceviche tropical (has shrimp).
5. The aguachile verde (again, shrimp).
6. Bringing five friends so you can share lots of stuff (mostly shrimp).
7. Making one of those friends bring her new baby because she's the cutest (little camarón that you ever did see).
