On the Grid : Marjan Hill

"Marjan Hill sits at the end of the penninsula of Split. Covered by dense Mediterranean vegetation, the hill serves an expansive recreational park with beaches, trails, museums and the occasional ancient church. I have spent an entire day exploring Marjan, but even if you only have a couple hours, you can still get a beautiful dose of nature. Take a short hike up to Cafe Bar Vidilica to stare at the beautiful city over coffee or continue up for another 20 minutes to the peak where you can take in views of the coast and the islands, especially breathtaking during the sunset." - Leslie Yeh

The highlight of visiting Split, beautiful place with amazing views all around. It's possible to get there using the Marjan Steps or through the beautiful mountain park surrounding the place.

Marjan Park is a true gem for nature lovers and those seeking a tranquil escape, often referred to as the "lungs of the city," this area offers a serene retreat from the bustling city center. The beaches around Marjan Hill, such as Kašjuni Beach and Bene Beach, are less crowded compared to other popular spots in Split. The secluded coves offer a peaceful environment where the sounds of cicadas can lull you into a state of relaxation better than any lullaby. One of the best ways to enjoy Marjan Beach is by setting up a hammock between the trees, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty. For those who prefer a more active holiday, the park is perfect for jogging, cycling, and hiking, especially in the early morning or late evening when the temperatures are cooler.

An interesting walk of around 3kms one way to the small church (turn left) just after after the pathway joins the paved road. Although it's not marked in any way this area was where the old zoo was once located some decades back.

Marjan hill is a wonderful place to get a panoramic view of the city of Split. The climb is quite easy and the view is worth it. The park is huge and one can spend a lot of time here! Definitely something to do while in Split ! Don't forget to carry food and water and wear comfortable clothes and shoes as Split is quite hot in the summer months !

It offers great view of Split Old Town. We went at night and it looks very romantic with all city lights. Amazing spot for Old Town City photography.
