"Don’t come to Mark Twain’s expecting trendy Neapolitan-style or crispy, NY-style thin-crust pizza, but rather chewy, thick, and sometimes curiously-topped pies, like the Creole, topped with shrimp, andouille, crab meat, and zucchini. Or, skip the pizza altogether and stick with old-school New Orleans classics, like the seafood gumbo, muffuletta, or a po’ boy (though the meatball option isn’t exactly a New Orleans tradition). Though it’s has been around since 1985, this old dog can learn new tricks — its gluten-free and cauliflower crusts are both favorites with the wheat-intolerant crowd." - Beth D'Addono

Yelp
Well this was a delight. Went there with 15 of my buddies for lunch and what a treat. The service was excellent, they had these special table extensions and easily accommodated us. And you'd think asking for individual bills would be an issue but no problem. Of the people eating, probably 11 pizzas were ordered. Not a single complaint. Everyone enjoyed their choices. Of course I was a non pizza order. So with that in mind I selected a meatball poboy. It was delicious. I got it dressed. Very tasty. I'd recommend it to anyone. All in all a great experience. I'd go back again soon.

Yelp
I haven't had Mark Twain's in years and my family and I decided to see if it was as good as we remembered it. I will say it wasn't bad, but in my opinion it was pretty mediocre pizza. There was just nothing that made me say wow this is a really good pizza. It was kinder thicker dough and it was overall just alright to me. I do love the old fashioned kind of place that it was and the service was great, but the food kind of felt short for me.

Yelp
I really hate giving poor reviews and its not very common that I have a true mediocre experience but unfortunately, we did the other night at Mark Twain's. Drove from uptown Nola, because as a pizza connoisseur from the north east, I want to check off all the spots I haven't yet tried! Upon arriving, we were pleasantly surprised that the seating area extended into two rooms as I thought it only held a few tables. Definitely enough space for large parties. We were instructed to sit wherever and once we did, we waited on our server for 10 minutes. No menus were given during those 10 minutes and the restaurant wasn't busy (2 other tables were already eating and 1 was waiting on their order). 10 minutes is truly a long time to have entered a building and not be greeted with menus or waters. Once the waitress stopped by, we ordered 2 soft drinks and 2 waters. The soft drinks were brought over but no waters and still no menus. It was our first time so we weren't sure how the place worked. We asked for menus and began reviewing. We ordered the french fries with cheese appetizer and (2) medium pizzas. It's a small town pizzeria so the pizza took some time which is understandable but now we are at 35 minutes before any appetizer arrived. The fries were uniquely shaped which was neat and had a tasty seasoning. Unfortunately, the cheese sauce was very cold which made for a funny taste. Might've been better warmed but as we were still waiting on waters, we didn't want to request anything else. Pizza's arrived hot hot! The sauce is sweet so it's definitely not your typical tomato basil sauce. We weren't in love with it but that's ok. We tried! Decided to order wings to go and the menu states market price but wow I had no idea market price was so extreme. Had we of known the price for 9 wings would be $18.99 we would not have ordered them. Overall, even if I liked the pizza, the poor service and high cost will keep me away from Mark Twain's.

Yelp
Food is good but expensive for pizza. A glass of Abita Amber was $10.00. Unfortunately I did not know this until check was presented. $20.00 for 2 draft beers is crazy. Took my grandkids for lunch, spent $70.00for large pizza 2 beers and 2 iced teas. Unreal! Inside was recently updated, guess that's why the price was so high?

Yelp
Services has gone down hill. Ordered via Grub Hub. Order not even in their system when we walked in per lady behind the counter. 3 ladies working. 1 sitting when we told her we had a To Go to pick up, no movement.5 minutes later she gets up to make some pizza. Other lady behind the white computer Monitor just sits down. I'll give my money elsewhere. Not worth it. Lady said 10 minutes and got it in 30. Just not worth it

Yelp
I used to LOVE Mark Twain's before they recently changed ownership. Now they've completely gone downhill. First of all, they changed their classic logo to one that looks like you would find it at a tacky casino. Their staff now are very unfriendly and UNPROFESSIONAL! When eating dinner I could hear them complaining by the register and dropping f-bombs and other curse words every few minutes. Just overall such a huge dip in quality.

Yelp
The pizza never disappoints....the crust is crispy and the toppings are generous. Everyone in the location from cook to server is committed to giving the customer. Great customer service, and a wonderful dining experience. The restaurant itself is small and quaint the parking is a challenge, but worth the effort.

Jay K.

Yelp
Great pizza place. We love thin crust and they will make any of their pizzas thin crust. Last trip we had the "Life on the Mississippi ". Cooked perfectly. Very busy place Thursday through Sunday. Extra parking in the evening across the street. Enjoy!!

Yelp
I was very disappointed with my experience eating at Mark Twain's. It was especially disappointing considering this is a local restaurant that has been in business for many years, and I grew up frequently dining here. To start, our server was very unprofessional and rude. She was curt and started fussing at "high schoolers costing her tips," a sentence that should not be said to her customers. Additionally, my drink was never filled up and the food came out at three different times (there were 6 of us there). Half of our group got their food, while the other half did not. If it's a bit behind then I'm usually like no problem, but it was over 10 minutes of waiting. When we finally got our food, it was delicious, but overall the experience was highly disappointing. Also, I'd pay in cash to avoid a 3.5% additional charge on credit card transactions.

Yelp
love love love this local business . pizzas are always fresh and memorable . more importantly the staff and owners see first class !

Kim D.

Yelp
The worse service!!!! Employees don't care they just lollygagging!! I stopped going here because after Ida hurricane, I went and ordered a pizza and I sat there for about 10 minutes people walking in ordering pizzas and getting theirs before me so I finally got up and said where's my pizza he said we didn't even make it yet!!!!!!

Madeline C.

Yelp
The food was great. Service was very good for our takeout order and they asked about a loyalty card, we signed up on the spot. Didn't have time to appreciate the old school ambiance but it's definitely worth the trip

Sam L.

Yelp
We heard good things about this place so decided to try it. When we walked in, the front of house didn't even look up to acknowledge us. After awkwardly standing there for a minute, we asked if we can sit anywhere and he said yes, so we sat down. They brought us waters and a menu and then we didn't see them again for 15 minutes, even though there was only one other party in the whole place. They eventually came to take our order and we got the Cheese Sticks and The Mysterious Stranger Pizza. It took over 30 minutes to get our appetizer, which ended up tasting pretty good. Another 20 minutes went by before we got our pizza and it was terrible. The spinach they used was completely wilted and black and the sauce tasted like it came out of a Walmart can. Our stomachs hurt afterwards, likely from the old spinach. It ended up being almost $40 and was very, very mediocore pizza with even worse service. Would not recommend.

Apathy ..

Yelp
This place is such a rip off these days. Used to be a great place to get pizza but at these prices, you're better off going elsewhere. The quality was so bad last time my mother got pizza from here she called and complained. I was dumbfounded at what she paid for it when I saw she had to put it back into the oven to cook it. She had the Deluxe, it was barely even cooked. Horrendous.

Mona C.

Yelp
The BEST pizza around! Fantastic barbecue chicken pizza. A definite treat. Good service

Vincent G.

Yelp
Pizza itself wasn't bad. Our table of 6 ordered 2 individual pizzas, 2 medium pizzas, and 1 shrimp Caesar salad. Everything came out at different times. 3 of us finished our food before the other 3 got their food. Our waitress blamed her losing tips on "a bunch of high schools working in the back." She screamed at them from our table which was all the way by the front window several times. She was rude, unprofessional, not attentive, and served us with her earbuds in her ear - all reasons why she is probably losing tips not the high schoolers. I came here a couple times a month with my family growing up and have the best memories. It is unfortunate that this experience has me not wanting to return again. ALSO BEWARE TO USE CASH IF YOU GO BECAUSE THEY CONVENIENTLY PUT ON THEIR CHECKS THAT THEY WILL CHARGE AN EXTRA 3.5% IF YOU USE CARD. When I got my bill it said $24.99 I asked why the menu said the deluxe was $21.99 and she said "You must have gotten an old menu because we just raised all of the prices." I say get rid of the old menus or charge what the menu you gave me says.

Yelp
Excellent Food. Great Old Metairie establishment. Good service. Generous to the community.

Kim S.

Yelp
The best pizza in Jefferson Parish! Friendly and welcoming employees. Will recommend to all families, children are welcome.

Rhonda M.

Yelp
Very good, very meaty pizza! While if search of a meal when there's limited spots open since the storm, they were open! Phone order, and walk in to grab your pie 45 mins or so later! My husband enjoyed it as well.

Felicia N.

Yelp
Today starts our Christmas vacation and we wanted to grab a quick lunch before doing some last minute Christmas shopping. We wanted pizza but didn't want the same ole places so we headed to Mark Twain. Our server was so sweet and nice!! She was wonderful and friendly. We ordered the bread stick and OMG it was so delicious. We ordered 2 ordered and devour it!! We then ordered the Samuel (meat pizza) and the BBQ chicken pizza. The only downfall is they don't have sweet n low for our tea lol If you are looking for a different place for Pizza you should give Mark Twain a try!! Definitely TRY THE BREAD STICK

Patti B.

Yelp
The best family friendly restaurant with great food and wonderful staff! If a big group, call ahead for reservation. Creole pizza a real treat, pasta salad yummy as well as Caesar salad. Life on the Mississippi another fav! Mark Twain's is our go to party place, promise you won't be disappointed!

Shazia W.

Yelp
I just love this pizza place!! I placed an order on a Sunday evening close to 6 pm. It literally took them about 15 min to have my pizza ready . They then told me about their loyalty program, which of course I ended up joining and on top of that I got about 4 dollars off of my pizza! Can you say winning! The quality of the pizza is so delicious as well! If you are looking for good food, and great service this is where you have to come! I have also dined in before and the service is just as great as when you're picking up! I'm supposed to be getting a coupon for joining the loyalty program as well! So you def know I will be coming back to enjoy some more pizza! Only con I would say is the parking but that's just because it is located off of Metairie road. Other than that you can always park across the street which is no biggie!

Rippon R.

Yelp
waited 5 minutes to be acknowledged by staff. three people standing around though to be fair one was taking a call in order. when we were finally acknowledged they could not find our order and my wife had to show them the online order. we have been coming here for 15 plus years and sadly this will be our last time. we are waiting now for the order to be made.

Kris C.

Yelp
After eating here many times now, I come to really love their pizzas. The Innocents Abroad pizza with the white sauce is probably one of the best pizzas they serve. The service is always quick and efficient. Keeping our drinks filled is very important to me. They do serve a variety of bottle beers and do have a couple of them on tap. Certain nights of the week, they have half price pitchers of beer. Parking can be a pain during the busy times, but there is a parking lot across the street. Also if you plan to visit frequently, do sign up for their rewards card. I get coupons and rewards in the mail frequently. It's well worth it, because it's free.

Skye D.

Yelp
A great old school pizza joint. Good tasting freshly made pizza. Owner is on site, good prices

Christy A.

Yelp
They did an awesome job of accommodating and serving our whole baseball team and families with awesome food!

Christian K.

Yelp
The service here is amazing. The people who work here make you feel very special. Their gluten free pepino is amazing. They literally let you make the pizza so that it isn't around regular flour. The owners are super sweet. Would 100000% come back here

Mitchell J.

Yelp
By far my worst Metairie pizza experience. My family has been ordering mark Twain's since it was owned by the original owner, Danny, back in the 90s. We ordered a pepperoni and bacon half with jalapeños and half with meatball... I guess it's my fault for trusting the restaurant because we got a pizza half pepperoni with artichoke and half with pepperoni sausage. I would much rather order from a chain with someone that can hear versus a local restaurant and someone who can't hear.

Arthur E.

Yelp
Pizza was not good. Crust was too thick and doughy. I ordered a large pizza margherita style and a large sausage pepper and onion pizza. The margherita pizza should have basil and garlic on it but they used dried basil flakes and what looked like garlic powder rather than minced garlic. The quality of mozzarella could have been better and in my opinion they used a cheaper less quality mozzarella and added too much cheese. I will not order from them again.

Landon D.

Yelp
Pizza was very expensive for a pizza joint so we expected it to be delicious but we're sorely mistaken, ordered pizza to go and when we got home to dive into the food it was very disappointing. Pizza was very undercooked and the wings had little to no sauce on them and were cold... won't be ordering from here again unfortunately.

Felix L.

Yelp
Great pizza, cooked to order, and outstanding service. Fantastic dining experience right in the neighborhood.

Carol K.

Yelp
After reading all the reviews I was excited to finally try pizza from here. The flavors are good, but the dough isn't cooked enough. We got mysterious stranger with the hot sausage and olives, and an order of cheese sticks. Appreciate that they provided both ranch and marinara sauce with the cheese sticks. A couple of others mentioned not being able to fold their slices in half, and I had the same problem. The middle of the pizza was limp and soggy, and not crisp on the bottom. I think it must be their style as the cheese sticks weren't crisp on the bottom either. I preferred it when we reheated they pizza and it was crisper on the bottom. I just want to be able to pick up my slice of pizza. I don't think I'd order from here again, just not my preferred style. The staff wasn't very friendly or welcoming when I came in to pick up my order. There were no other customers and it wasn't a busy time.

Kurt L.

Yelp
Love aunt pollys salad. I thought the pizza guy was OCD, but it turns out that "consistency is key"- he probably would never franchise out of fear they would ruin his creation.

Lacey D.

Yelp
This is a solid choice for a meal- the pizza is good, the salad is very good and the service is excellent. Nice combo, we will certainly come back. So far, I have tried the: Mark Twain salad, Caesar salad, Antipasti salad, Mississippi Landing pizza, Innocents Abroad pizza, Mysterious Stranger pizza, Creole pizza and Pepperoni pizza. The only thing we didn't love was the Creole pizza, but have heard many other people name it as a favorite. When you get the small pizza, it is a little thicker and therefore a little more doughy/less cooked through. In the future I would ask them to make it thinner/cook it longer. Overall I am consistently impressed with the fresh ingredients and attentive service we receive. would recommend them!

Chet J.

Yelp
We love this place. It's locally owned, and is sort of a classic old school pizza joint. It's usually pretty crowded, but a table for two is usually available. Larger than 3 or 4 could be a problem at peak times. The pizza is really good and there's a decent variety. I've also had a meatball sandwich, and enjoyed it. The service is friendly but usually rushed, and they're usually pretty young and not very...polished. On our last visit, the waitress had to be careful to not knock over my empty beer mug when she brought the pizza, but didn't seem to notice that it was empty. And then seemed a little....surprised, or inconvenienced when I called her back so I could order another. But, the wonderful pizza makes up for the so-so service.

Andi F.

Yelp
I am impressed at the interest in dietary issues of the customers. They have gluten free options for the crust. I do not have a need for any dietary concerns, but it is nice for those who do. Parking is in front, and is the diagonal parking. It can be difficult to leave, because even if you pull in and you think you will have a clear shot leaving, you might not, depending on the size of the vehicles around you as your trying to back out. Keep that in mind when your coming in as Metairie Road is quite busy at times. You walk in, there is a sign to seat yourself for table service. On the day the St Patricks parade was going by, they had limited options, and you ordered at the counter for your food, and they were cash only for that day. The interior could use a deep cleaning, as could the restrooms. The restrooms are single, so I imagine that they could be gender neutral, but they are not specifically designated as such. There are gambling machines in the corner, walled off. During the evenings, it can get packed with families and kiddos sports teams celebrating or just walking it off and eating. The pizza itself is good, the crust is not greasy, it is thick (how I like it) and not soggy from what I have experienced. I came recently as a reminder as it had been awhile since I have come. I have never not had a good food experience. I would come back for the food, I just hope they give the interior a good cleaning.

Lana M.

Yelp
Love this place !! Pizza to go is awesome . Love the sauce and the crust is cooked perfectly. Amazing ! I recommend Mark Twain's one of the best pizza places to take home and enjoy . Anchovies on the side is an added touch to make it tasty... Life On The Mississippi is a 5 star pizza

David G.

Yelp
When it comes to pizza it's really about the crust and the sauce. Mark Twain hits a home run on both fronts. It's a thicker crust pizza, but not too thick, and has a great taste to it. I feel like alot of the pizza places I've had in new Orleans puts a huge emphasis on the toppings not realizing that a great pizza is in the crust! And the sauce is as good as the crust. A plain slice of Mark Twain pizza is an experience in itself, which is how I know the pizza is on point. Under my small pizza was a little pizza peel which I though was really cool. And the mints you get at the end are some of the best. You should definitely grab a couple of extra as you leave. I'm a sucker for places that give attention to detail. In my to go box they even put aluminum foil on the bottom. Mark Twain does a great job going the extra mile. I will be back often!

Jerry G.

Yelp
Have not eaten there in over 10 years my how things have changed. The pizza was not even as good as Red Baron in the supermarket section. My wife asked if the wings were spicy and the waitress said no they are mild.My 6 year old granddaughter who cannot eat spicy foods bit into a wing and it was extremely spicy! How can the waitress of this establishment not know whether the wings are spicy or not?The smaller waitress of the two that were working was walking around the restaurant broadcasting that they call her the white girl that drinks Starbucks all day including other color related comments guess that was supposed to make her cool!Overall awful experience and will never return!Sorry we didn't go to fat boys up the street!

Pat A.

Yelp
Mark Twain's is a mostly very good pizza joint with a constant crowd that only becomes problematic when little league baseball is in season. Seems to be the place for team celebrating. One thing that's good but very annoying, is they make a wonderful roast beef po-boy but not after 5 and on weekends! Grrrr! All the usual pizzas are good but they have one with shrimp, andouille sausages, white Alfredo sauce and crabmeat that is sublime. And they are very Gluten Free friendly. They bring you the ingredients and you build your own GF pizza to avoid cross contamination. All told, nice hang out vibe with a life size paper mache Mark Twain in the front window. Heck, its worth it to see that. And if you went to UNO, let Jacques the owner know. He's a very loyal alum.

Mallory T.

Yelp
I realize judging pizza is very subjective, and while it's not bad pizza, it wasn't enough to make me rush to go back. I would try it again someday though. The service was excellent, and the 2 servers who took turns taking care of us were very nice and accommodating, and for that I will give MT a 4-star rating. I did find the restaurant to feel a bit unclean, but I know it's an older joint so I have to forgive that a little. My husband was grossed out by the bathroom. I know plenty of people who really love this place, so I'd recommend anyone to at least give it a shot.

Terry T.

Yelp
I had a medium deluxe pizza and it was so delicious! The service was excellent, quick with the drinks and the food. This is my new favorite place!

Bob E.

Yelp
Great local pizza place and I think one of the best pizza places in Metiairie. A family friendly owned restaurant with a good feel and food. The have all kinds of options for different platelets. My favorite is the Samuel Clements. Note: bar is limited beer and wine.

Bob N.

Yelp
If you know me or my reviews you know I'm a big fan of pizza, if you know me really well you know I'm a fan of Mark Twain. I've been by this restaurant many times wanting to try it but I was nervous that it would disappoint, not being able to live up to my standards. This is going to come off lousy, but I need to be honest, I was skeptical that a Metairie restaurant could have fantastic pizza. I am happy to report they do! This place has been here since 1985, serving up some delicious pizza. It's cheesy with a tomatoey sauce, not busy with spice. My mind was opened, so glad this place is up to par, I'll be back at the Landing before too long. Also try the garlic breadsticks, those suckers are bursting with buttery, garlic flavor.

Alex G.

Yelp
We paid $20 for a take-out pizza that was under cooked and too floppy. We had to put it in our own oven to give the crust structure to eat. The whole point of delivery was convenience. FAIL. I love this place because it is local. Please fix the quality control.

Pat A.

Yelp
Very nice neighborhood non-chain pizza house most notable for the life sized paper mache Mark Twain in its front window. Anyway, they do an above average job of making a variety of the usual pizzas but shine on special ones like the the Mysterious Stranger. It's a white sauce with shrimp, crab meat, boudin, and cheese. I was very skeptical at first but loved it. Another quirky thing... they make a great roast beef pie-boy but only before 5 pm. Strange, Also they have a great gluten free pizza that you make yourself.

Francis C.

Yelp
The pizza is good if you don't mind the horrible owner and disgusting restaurant. I turned a blind eye to the crazy guy and general stickiness of everything in the place for years because I love their Mississippi pizza. But a while back a roach crawled across my lap while I dined with my family, and when I brought it up the owner had a meltdown, screaming "what do you want me to do to fix it?!" in the dining room. Our waitress apologized profusely and refunded the meal, but the owner and roach ruined it for me. I gave them another try ordering to go during quarantine, but when I went to pick it up I saw employees not wearing masks or gloves and touching EVERYTH. I only made a yelp account to warn others.

Mike K.

Yelp
Great single location neighborhood pizzeria. Awesome pizza, not crazy expensive. Friendly waitstaff. The real winner is sitting down here and having a few draft beers (pitchers available) or wine with your pizza. The wine comes by the bottle of by these little 8oz carafes. Much more fun than just a glass of wine. The beer comes in frosty pint glasses that have sheets of ice sliding off of them when they hit the table. I don't know which nights they are, but one or more nights a week is 1/2 price pitchers. It's a real score. This place is just a chill friendly spot that has been an Old Metairie mainstay for decades.

Matthew L.

Yelp
This is my buddies favorite spot and I can tell you, he is right about this place. When you first get here you do not think pizza and Mark Twain would go together but it actually works! The pizza is pretty darn good and those breadsticks are out of this world. Have been here many of times and have never been upset with my meal! Parking can be limited in front of the restaurant but there is a big parking lot right across the street. You can not go wrong if you want to find a pretty good pizza in old metry by trying this spot. You will not be disappointed at all

Mel D.

Yelp
I have been coming here since my days at St Catherine of Siena. This is still one of my favorite pizza places in the city, if not my favorite!!!! I find the pizza to taste VERY FRESH!!! Plus I love the salads here also!!! Thank you!!
