"Massachusetts’s favorite grocery store, Market Basket, opens its first Rhode Island location on May 21 in Warwick (25 Pace Blvd.), with a second to follow soon in Johnston. The chain — which has its roots in a small grocerette in Lowell opened by Greek immigrants Athanasios and Efrosini Demoulas in 1917 and embraces the slogan “more for your dollar” — is beloved throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine for its affordable prices and fiercely loyal staff." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Ughh I just bought this watermelon last night! Why market basket, why?? I haven’t been to a MB in a while, and it was 100% because of the produce going bad extremely fast. I was in the area and stopped in last night and less than 24 hours later (the watermelon was stored at a cool temp) I open it to find this science experiment. It looked and felt fine on the outside. I can’t feasibly hold into it and return it so it’s a loss…

Google
My favorite store for everything but fish. I'd give it a 4.5 iif I could for the few and only times I bought fish that was already bad, or went bad within a day before I could even cook it. So, I just about their fish now. However, everything else is on point to my knowledge, and best the prices in town for sure, on most items. They also have a very good selection of everything I've tried. I actually prefer their produce to several other stores in the area like Walmart and Stop and Shop, while it also costs less. They also have friendly service, and usually a good amount of staff that don't leave lines of customers waiting to cash out like many other stores do. Again, this store is a fine star to me, if only they had better fish.

Google
If you're looking for Christmas cookies, then you've hit the jackpot here. I was pretty surprise it wasn't too crazy tonight, and there was no line at the checkout. They were also having a special closeout sale on Xmas candy 2 for $1. I was quite pleased with my experience at this location. Great service from staff as well.

Google
As always super clean and organized, whilst being super busy the cashiers were quick on each lane and all the deals were clearly shown. The prices are very affordable and I can buy two weeks of groceries for around $100.

Google
Very disappointed in your own bagels I’ve bought it before and they were always really great. These were terrible. I love Market Basket still just wanted to tell you how I feel I’ve tried them twice already and twice that awful. There’s no taste, but I’ll try them again probably

Google
I love this marketplace. The fruit section is always full of fresh fruit on my last visit here it was a very windy and stormy day the gentleman outside that was doing the carriages. I didn’t get his name, but he’s always there early in the morning doing carriages. I had three cases of water and he came right over to me and put all the water in my trunk. I thanked him

Google
Great store. Prices are reasonable. Excellent grab and go items, as well as fresh made heat and eat meals. The staff are super helpful and polite. Clean sore. Really awesome every time I go.

Google
Seafood department was awesome! They custom cut my order to perfection. Love that this store pffers high end and discount products. Always busy though.

Yelp
Why did the kid put my crunch master bag of crackers on the bottom on top of cans Not ok he needs 2 be re-trained

Yelp
I'll never shop back at this particular Warwick location. The last time I was in there it was an actual joke. To make a long story short - I informed the bagger I wanted to bag my own groceries..she stepped aside for about 10 seconds only to basically push me aside and start shoving all my stuff into bags like a total a*hole. I reinstated I would handle it, she completely ignored me and was grabbing for stuff out of my hands as I tried to protect my fragile items from her dumbassery. It took everything I had to not freak out on her in the checkout I was so pissed off. Never had an experience like that ever before it was so bizarre. Stay away from this location it's SO GHETTO.

John A.

Yelp
Market basket is the best! I love their meats. The vegetables and fruits are always fresh. I think the real advantage is their turn-over. That's why everything is so fresh. I do a lot of Greek cooking and they have everything from phyllo dough (best price in Rhode Island) to various feta cheese, to olives, and jarred grape leaves. Their deli and sushi bar are wonderful and their ice coffee is really good quality and the most economical. They have tables available so one can purchase food and eat right there. This dinning area is clean and well attended. Some items are a little more expensive than Aldi's but they don't have the variety that Market Basket. Really, they are the best value. I would say that Dave's in Rhode Island has better meats but they prices are crazy high. And Costco probably has better meats but one has to purchase in huge quantities. Market Basket is the best all around deal.

Yelp
Many people that I know love Market Basket and when I drive by or stop by, I always see lots of people shopping in here. It reminds me of an old fashion grocery store that has slowly come into the 21st century.....many of the aisle signs have that "old county" style and letters, so that helps with the nostalgia.....but the offerings are all contemporary and plentiful. I was looking at their produce and I was happy to see their chayote squash for $0.99 each...not a bad price for them...but keep an eye on the sale items...they really can help you save...for example, this week the seedless grapes are $3.99/lb but next week they will go down to $1.99/lb. Next week it will be time to get some grapes and save ! So besides the usual tomatoes, apples, celery and onion, they carry some ethnic and specialty produce, which is a great thing for those who enjoy ethnic cooking. Lots of cash registers open to allow for quick checkout.

Danielle B.

Yelp
BUYER BEWARE!!! They are not rotating their meats! Purchased ground pork on 12/18, expired on 15th, date was scratched off! Disgusting! Stop cutting corners. Your stuff went up high! Not cheap

Lisa W.

Yelp
There are many great things I could review about Market Basket, but today it is about the bakery department, specifically the doughnuts! They are giant, 1 is unfortunately enough! Get there early, the best flavors always go fast. It might take a little more time, there is no drive-thru (!), but they are definitely worth going into the store !!

Ashley P.

Yelp
My new go-to grocery store, I love this location. What a giant establishment! The selection here is just phenomenal. Each department has so much to choose from. So much in fact that I'm still very much learning where everything is in the store and spend much time perusing my options. I swear, every time I walk in, there is something new that catches my eye. I especially like their prepared foods section. They even have a sandwich shop (think Subway-style). The customer service here is top of the line. There are always lots of employees out in the aisles restocking and rearranging. They are very helpful when searching for that needed item. Checkout is usually very quick. There always seems to be a cashier and bagger on a number of registers. Large parking lot. Easy access from Bald Hill Road.

Pia T.

Yelp
suffocating not comfortable to confusing the way the ails distributions of items i suggest making more open and organized space

Kenneth C.

Yelp
This supermarket isn't perfect, but one thing they really excel at is service. The level of service feels like 1955, not 2023 (yes, that's a compliment). There are even plenty of employees on the grocery floor, so I never have to look far to ask someone for help. The best thing, to me, is that there are no self-service checkout lines. And, every cashier has a bagger. Lines move quickly. Prices are also lower than many other markets, so I buy the bulk of my groceries here. Usually, I go elsewhere for deli, though, because it's usually very busy. I'm also not a big fan of their prepared foods, sandwiches or baked goods. Meats and produce are decent. Only other drawback is that it's often very busy, with a nearly full parking lot, and having to negotiate aisles crowded with other shoppers. This can be mitigated by going during less popular times, such as Saturday evening.

Jen W.

Yelp
Is it totally weird that I'm excited about a new grocery store? Well I am. I've shopped at Market Baskets in the past and when in the area of one, often stop in for anything we 'may' need. Now that one is nearby, I am thrilled! There are plenty of grocery store options in our area, and we shop at several, but this one makes me so happy. The staff are always polite and helpful, the shelves well stocked and the prices good. We stopped in on opening day and every aisle has managers and other staff available. Every shelf was 'faced' (all the items pulled to the front so they look nice), every register open and the store busy. Out front they have a large selection of annuals and other plants for your garden and there is a register out there so you can purchase them separately before or after your food shopping. There is also a small fresh flower selection inside, over by produce. The set up is just like most other Market Baskets if you've been to one. If not, Aisle 1 starts with dairy, eggs, bacon, hot dogs, with cold cuts, cheeses and seafood along the back. Meats run along the rest of that back wall and in refrigerator cases in the middle of this wide back aisle. Produce is located in the last couple of aisles, just past frozen foods. At the front end of produce are pre-made food items including sandwiches, pizza, salads, and others. This store does not have a liquor license like some MB's do. It's a state thing. There is a limited number of organic produce items, a large wall of bread items and so much in the middle one lovely woman I chatted with was so overwhelmed she was beside herself with the available selection. It's the prices that get me excited, especially on their own MB items and the quality is good. I definitely have a 'favorite' store for grocery shopping, and as I was already sourcing items they don't carry from other neighbors, I don't think they will mind if I make MB my new 'go to' for those other things. I'm really quite excited they are in the neighborhood! You should go check them out.

Yelp
I would like to share my recent experience about customer service at the Market Basket Warwick store .I usually go to this store every week for my groceries. Yesterday, 7/26/2024 I was at the store at noon time for getting a BRYER'S Ice cream - Cookie & Cream. There was none left in the freezer ice cream section. As Peter was loading the shelves, I requested him and he got it out from the inside the store. Peter brought it to me while I was waiting in the check out line. Peter went the extra mile to provide better service to customers. This is an example of excellent customer service. Such employee should be given some incentives for his effort. Market Basket is a big store with wide selections of products at a reasonable price.

Yelp
I love that market basket is family owned, very clean, iland the store makes you feel like you're back in the fifties at your favorite grocery store. That's about as Good as It gets. Trying to shop there is a nightmare. Most of the help doesn't speak English and if they do they do not know the locations of anything. The first time in there about 2 and 1/4 hours to do 45 minutes worth of shopping. It was a nightmare. But I gave it a shot yesterday again. After about 45 minutes I had had enough. It's really too bad because the rule is family put a lot of money and a lot of effort to restoring this chain to its Glory Days. It's very sad their employees don't feel the same way. When leaving I was talking to the store manager explaining how things were he interrupted me and told me I was wrong. That's right I replied, the customers wrong. I'll never go back

Catherine S.

Yelp
No matter which door I seem to go to I find 95% of all the items like went to the store for they were reasonable prices about average. The good thing was the other day. I got a dozen and a half of eggs of organic range free eggs for 349. The only thing I seem to have trouble finding is the apple squash soup it's made by Market Basket in their fresh food department and every time it's on sale or even when it's not on sale, you never can find it I love getting a rain check each time and going back to get it at a later date. I was in that things usually a pretty consistent. There are some things at a higher price as with other stores in matter where you go, you have to shop in more than one store for groceries.

Ken H.

Yelp
I just waited 40 minutes to buy four things. The cashier was taking her time to milk it out before she left everyone in line was mad. Then they switched cashiers and another wait. I will never go back to this terrible location. Stop and Shop all the way!!!!!

Matt R.

Yelp
Absolutely love Market Basket. The prices here are insanely good and the selection is beyond any other chain around. The produce is always super fresh also. Shopping at Market Basket weekly is like shopping at other stores except everything is priced like it is always on sale. Market Basket really does charge value prices but I feel like the caliber of their items is higher or just as high as other places. Only downside to market basket is the meat selection is usually so-so. Sometimes you can spot decent looking, somewhat tender meats with nice marbling but other times they are sooo tough and chewy. Favorite part of market basket is by far the wide selection. For example, MB has an entire freaking aisle of yogurts with every brand, flavor, etc you could ever think of. Chances are if you eat a less than common brand of something they have it. Market Basket is also friendly for vegans, people shopping for organic, or gluten free. I always see these types of options through the store. Hands down Market Basket is my favorite grocery store. Thrilled to see this new Warwick location!

Miguel L.

Yelp
I recently moved into the area and started doing my shopping at this location. I expend hundreds of dollars every week for groceries for a family of 6 people. I used to do my shopping before at the Market Basket in Chelsea MA. Unfortunately this location doesn't carry a particular bakery then other locations in MA. I emailed the store and I got a really rude response and they stated to me that they will never accommodate my request even though they have this particulate product in many of other stores. With the Spanish population around this area I can image why they haven't bring some Spanish bakery items to this location. Adela's Bakery is the only bakery my old grandmother likes so in the meantime. I will not shop in this location anymore since they don't carry some other items then other Markets baskets and also need to improved customer services in this location.

Debbie M.

Yelp
My boyfriend got me a Ceasar salad today and there was a few pieces of chicken in it! So much for being a vegetarian.

Jackson K.

Yelp
I don't like to get too personal on here but I don't know if that's possible to avoid when it comes to talking about Market Basket's Warwick location. Picture a Saturday night just after getting dark. It's Cold, raining, and a dim moon centers the sky. There's an ominous energy building in the air tonight. Right now people are deciding what to wear. they're considering whether he or she will notice them. They're wondering if he or she will look them in the eyes tonight. Butterflies flutter their stomachs as they imagine he or she gazing into their eyes and saying "yes". I see a line of cars leaving the liquor store on bald hill road. I too start to feel the intoxicating vibrations of this Saturday night. It's the love that keeps me coming back. The rotisserie chickens here are unbelievably good. I don't understand how a chain like market basket can put glowing burning love into everything they do. In this case the glowing burning love is the seasoning they put on their chicken because it is so delicious, but there are many other instances in which Market Basket's keen attention to detail takes my experience to the next level. Like their low priced name brand products or the red and white checkered tiles on the floor. few other supermarkets even season their chickens these days in an attempt to cut costs. All the while Market Baskets old time quality stands the test of time. Sometimes when I go here I start blushing and I have to remind myself it's just a chain. I am so taken care of here it's entrancing.

Kris W.

Yelp
as i mentioned in previous reviews, i like to eat food. the market basket sells some nice looking food i liked the display case in the bakery department with all these fine looking cakes. this is a nice looking grocery store with good prices.

Kristen S.

Yelp
Wow! I was overwhelmed walking into this gargantuan store but so glad I popped in. There is not one self checkout register in this place. All 20 registers were staffed with a cashier and bagger. There was a worker in almost every single aisle ready to answer any questions you had. They have a massive produce department, meat department etc. I did not visit the deli on this trip but I will be back.

Jason B.

Yelp
It's Market Basket. Always busy no matter when you go, but always enough registers open. This location is a little bigger, and its nice to finally have one in RI.

Michele N.

Yelp
I am hooked on this place! Incredible deals with no app or sign up to save money! Just shop and get the deals!

David H.

Yelp
Best quality and service at great prices. Better prices than Stop & Shop and lower prices than Daves. Highly recommend it.

Rick G.

Yelp
Wow, this place is the absolute worst. Workers are super ghetto and unprofessional., talking and laughing in Spanish...Cashiers are beyond rude. The store shelves are so disorganized with regard to product placement. Pasta isn't near the sauce, cereal isn't near other breakfast items like pancake mix, etc. I counted sausage in 4 different isles!!! It like taking a time machine back to 1978 as far as the decor goes. No gourmet items, no good prepared foods. Just a step up from price right I would say! Don't expect good customer service, unless you shop at price rite. Then you're in luck

Stephanie S.

Yelp
I am originally from Massachusetts so Market Basket is nothing new for me, that being said I am thrilled they're now in Rhode Island which saves me a trip to North Attleboro. "MB" has a vast selection of fresh produce, prepped meals, and a bakery section with items hard to resist. I think it's important to note they have a good offering of gluten-free, dairy-free, Keto, and vegetarian options. Prices vary but tend to be equal or slightly lower than Stop & Shop or Shaws. It has unique variety like a Whole Foods with the home town market feel like a Dave's. The only negatives...With all this goodness comes higher shelves. I find it difficult to reach certain items-thankfully there's always a sales associate around to help. The parking lot is huge but can be tricky to maneuver due to the long Starbucks lines. I suggest using the side entrance on the road to Home Depot...

Steven K.

Yelp
This happens every time i go to fish dept Seems like tde help is stressed out and annoyied with me and other people yesterday they literally gawe me a dirty look as the woman placed lobster in my cart day before gawe my lobs ter to another man after waiting 25 minutes very disappointing!

Alan M.

Yelp
I was in Market Basket in Warwick today. Apparently they are not enforcing the mask mandate issued by the State. I saw several people unmasked, and had a small confrontation with one person at the deli. When I asked the associate if the mandate was being enforced..she just shook her head. Later on I saw a manager walking around with his mask down under his chin. Market Basket is too dangerous to shop there. I'll shop elsewhere.

Lori L.

Yelp
First time shopping at Market Basket, Warwick, RI store was spotless, isles clearly marked and staff was super friendly and helpful. Found everything I needed and then some. Bakery was awesome for items. Fruit and produce has a wide selection. Prices are average. I liked the MB brand for the items I bought and am quite pleased with the quality of everything. I will definitely be shopping there again.

Laura W.

Yelp
This new supermarket is immaculate and well organized. It carries an above average selection of international products, an expansive selection of freshly made sushi, and well priced butcher cuts of meat. This supermarket is definitely worth a stop if you find yourself in Warwick. Market Basket is a Massachusetts company that is expanding. Hopefully, more Market Basket locations will soon be available in Rhode Island. The new location I visited has ample parking. It's next to Best Buy and Savers- a quick right off of Route 2.

Cal H.

Yelp
Buh Bye Dave's! Beautiful New Store, big, clean, no bendy aisles where you crash into other's carts constantly. Have shopped with MB for many years the past in MA and NH and they have really stepped it up with an impressive array of quality choices. Ethnic varieties, Organic selections, unusual grocery items other stores charge a ransom for. Meat and chicken cases did not disappoint. Their fish dept. is a bit thin. Dave's is better for fresher seafood, more selection. But the rotisserie chickens are delish. Don't be put off by the plain Saran wrapping. They appear small because they don't package them in the plastic totes like the other stores, which saves landfills from additional single-use plastics. Bring insulated bag if you like, or maybe they sell those too... My shopping cohort loves the sangwiches made to order and the salads. The produce is nice. No green (aka OLD) potatoes to be found. [pet peeve] Nice Bakery. What would really be a bonus though is a Wine aisle :-D Their sales seem to start on Sundays v. Fridays for the other usual suspects. Go early in the day because later in the afternoon it becomes Old Home Week with aisles blocked by chatty seniors: friends and neighbors. But that's the charm with a new store in town.

Danielle G.

Yelp
I was happy when they first opened. However, I noticed that the prices increased, less cashiers, more waiting and very disorganized. I think I will stick with Dave's

David M.

Yelp
Great store to shop in. Love the prices compared to other chain grocery stores. Will always shop there.

Courtenay B.

Yelp
Was my first time going to the new store , very clean and all the staff friendly, courteous, and helpful.... spent way less than I have at other grocery stores.. will be going back to do my shopping

Wayne P.

Yelp
the place is enormous. has an over abundance of all the regular stuff. BUT Vegetarian and Organic....meh.a little bit here and a tiny bit there. they could definitely par down some off the regular selections and make half an aisle vegetarian etc. right now i get better selection of these type of items at my local (as in within a mile) Stop and Shop and the Shaws.

Janice W.

Yelp
My wife today did her shopping as usual and always buys around 60 to 80 dollars worth. Today an elderly woman was in front of her and the cashier had problems with her card. After she was done my wife's bill was 280 dollars!!! My wife said this was impossible , she only had 4 bags! The cashier called the manager who argued with my wife and said that's the total and pay it. My wife refused and demanded it be rung up again. Afterward the bill was 75 dollars. The new cashier apologized but the manager didn't. Poor customer service. Obviously my wife was gonna pay for the previous order also. The employees need more training and more competent front end management.

Carmen H.

Yelp
Bad customer service at the hot bar I was waiting for a long time one person comes in cuts everyone she got what she wanted and none of the workers who were there didn't even ask if we needed help until I said out loud" I've been waiting a long time someone just cut everyone". Never coming back again I should've just went to Dave's like I usually do

Little B.

Yelp
One of the workers was caring carts outside and I was walking inside and he hit me with the carts and never said sorry my feelings are hurt

Fran O.

Yelp
WOW. ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS NÉW MARKET BASKET. Excellent job. It has everything. Even a coffee shop. I am from Massachusetts and usually shop the Bellingham store. But recently bought in Warwick and I will be a regular at this Market Basket. Can ya build one of these in Vero Beach.

Lynn J.

Yelp
Love this store. The guys don't have droopy pants, no long hair, the women are very neat also. One problem I have, is the continuous overhead paging, especially the guys who are so muffled and aggravating, as though they have the microphone in their mouth, and no, it's not because of a mask, if so, lower it when you speak.

Domenic D.

Yelp
What an extraordinary, state of the art Grocery experience RI is in for.  I was fortunate to receive a tour from the gracious, excited Arthur T. Demoulas, President/CEO, as he was ensuring everything was perfect for the grand opening.  What a great person. People are what the store is about and it shows from him down. The store is incredible, the standard of freshness, cleanliness, convenience, quality, variety, and service were all beyond expectation.  All with a commitment to providing the community with products, they want and need.

James G.

Yelp
used to be a great store when they opened but now nothing but nightmares prepared foods is the worst i've ever seen. lines, no one has a clue what's going on. take your order after waiting 30 minutes for your food they then tell you there out. just very poorly managed. come on market basket
