Boutique European style market next to Rockridge Bart. I don’t shop there because I’m a online delivery person but my husband loves patronizing the different vendors especially the wine for unique selections, seafood, and meat. I like their tastings they do with different themes.

Today was my first time going in to this gourmet food market, even though I have driven by it numerous times This market carries high quality foods including freshly made pasta (I saw them actually making it, and the prices are less than another store that makes their own). Cheese lovers--if you live in the East Bay you got to see what they have--an impressive bunch of cheeses. I know that they are expensive, but if you are in to gourmet foods, you got to check out what they carry. Mid-January, 2022, we had to wait in line outside the store (which I appreciated). There was hand sanitizer available, and they don't let too many people in at one time. Tip: be sure and take a number if you want to buy any ready made hot dishes to save time.

Market Hall is like my pantry and refrigerator! I have been a regular here since its inception and the quality never varies from excellent. The staff is extraordinarily competent and friendly, even at the busiest times of day. Love this place!

Google
Lovely place for a great neighbourhood like Rockridge. I live in Oakland Lake Merritt area but have come across this place couple times while in Rockridge so finally gave it a try. Lots of pasta options and also available by the pound (loose) for approx. 5$ a pound. I honestly found prices to be quite expensive here compared to Wholefoods where you can get organic pasta for less than 2$ per pound. Definitely seemed good quality and like I said, LOTS of different pasta options! I honestly like to support locally made stuff because that's the whole point of being environmentally friendly, right? :P Many things in this store are imported, which is great but I wouldn't come here just to buy stuff and bring it back home to Lake Merritt. Including the 4$ return BART ticket, I would end up paying a lot for groceries so not worth it for me personally on that front. We picked up couple different cheeses, cold cuts salamis (4 different types), couple jams and dark chocolate that had a good price tag on it - happy me :) I was happy to see they had Bulgarian and Greek feta available loose by the pound and not super expensive - these are the stuff that's hard to find and would make me come back for. I wish this store was closer to my house to make it worth the trip here. Definitely recommend for all those around the area - great selections of cheese, meat, cold cuts, wine, pasta etc and a lovely bakery section and coffee and their restaurant.

What a breath of fresh air in a city that usually gets a bad rap! Pleasant, with a great way to meet the many amazing neighbors in the surrounding neighborhood. Just a little bit of heaven!

Live across the bay in SF, but love to come to Rockridge shop for unique Europe's items. Their deli and cold cut were always superior! The price range are in the higher side, but quality never disappoint you. Whenever on the way to Berkeley, it became a must stop and happy place for me! :)

Google
Undeniably the best in the Bay Area, according to visits I made all across metro SF couple years ago. May not be true today but it’s still shockingly fab. Go every couple weeks to Oakland store to stock my larder. 🧀🥩🍷

Market Hall Foods is the heart of Rockridge and the most vibrant food marketplace in Oakland or perhaps the entire East Bay. Let’s get it out-of-the-way: you don’t shop there for bargain eats. You shop there is a substitute for traveling the world for yummy food. For more than 30 years Market Hall Foods has imported some of the best sweet and savory foods from Europe and other countries as well as being famous for their locally made pastas, which are sold in other stores as well. Market Hall Foods is a great place to go to pick up salads or other deli food, cheeses and charcuterie for lunch or a picnic. They also try to find the most interesting and delicious food gifts from local, small producers as well as artisan food makers from around the world. Unlike most reviewers of this very special food store, which is across the street from BART, I am delivering you “insider” knowledge as someone who has worked there in the grocery department helping customers pick out perfect foods. Message me if you would like any more information or suggestions about shopping at Market Hall Foods which includes not only specialty foods but wine, fish, meats, produce, and an incredible bakery.

Yelp
My favorite is the butcher shop. The crew there are so nice and always ready to help. I have met great people there. Louie is my go-to guy. The place is always clean, meat is so fresh and taste so good. I highly recommend this place to anyone. If you are in the area, check this place out. Tons of variety here.

Yelp
There's a reason why I liked the location on 4th street in Berkeley. It was nice and compact and had all of the basics. This place is a bit larger and cramped in a different way which isn't cute when you are looking for something specific. I never found the pasta we wanted, but I know that they have it. I didn't want to spend my whole day looking for it. The cheese section isn't huge. The people working there are fine, they are so busy that they don't have time for things such as greetings, but it's all good. This isn't a destination spot, like their late brother, however, if in the area and in need of something specific, I'd probably drop in.

Yelp
This place has a wide variety of food options. Groceries, butcher, deli, produce, and household items. Tons to choose from and very high quality. Do you enjoy fresh fish and lean quality meat? This place has it all. Unfortunately, the prices are far more higher than the standard grocery store or even independent grocery stores. Bring a fat wallet !

Yelp
Great selections, fresh ingredients and knowledgeable staff. And there is free parking!

Yelp
I love this market 3 times over!! My dad and mom brought me here after grabbing lunch nearby to pick up some fresh ingredients for dinner and everything ended up tasting super good! We got fresh pasta, pesto, red sauce, and a couple other jars we grabbed while perusing the shop! Definitely get the ravioli if they have it when you go -- it was some of the most fresh and delicious pasta I have had. Check this place out, it will not disappoint!!

Al K.

Yelp
Best slices of pizza when you need a pick-me-up! Generous sized slices served hot and crisp. The toppings are of the best quality and super tasty. So difficult to to choose which one you want...so pick 2. You'll be full and satisfied!

Peter N.

Yelp
This is truly an urban cornucopia of food and drink offerings, including a butchers section, many fruits and vegetables, and all sorts of other foodie selections. It is located in a vibrant part of town right next to public transportation. You could easily spend a couple hours here grazing and shopping.

Yelp
Best place to get a quick lunch in Rockridge. Love the deli counter, fresh pasta, and selection of cheeses, olive oil, honey, chocolate, and jam. Great place to pickup some picnic items. Other favorites include: orzo and feta salad, kale lentil and olive salad, linguine and shrimp, cauliflower, grilled salmon. Everything here is good!

Yelp
This review is heavy on one topic . . . . .other than some imported from Italy dry pasta there is nearly nothing that's gluten free in their bakery, nor is there gluten free fresh pasta. Hello Market Hall . . . .this is 2023. The gluten thing is real. It's not a "fad." It's been real problem for many years now, it's not a new from neurotics. Our numbers are growing by the day as people realize they have some form of Celiac or gluten intolerance. Your one ugly unappealing almond cookie was a "why bother." How hard is it to craft your own GF pizzas and breads - there are recipes all over the internet and in many books. A little experimentation and you could be truly serving the community.

Yelp
I would just like to say I really like the bakery department. Everything always looks delicious and tastes just as great as it looks. However, the last time I went I had to purchase a birthday cake. I asked if they wrote on their cakes? She says yes and asked what I would like written on it? She gets a piece of paper and writes down what I want it to say, I say "Happy birthday, Andy." She quickly writes down what I want and says to stand over there it will just be a min while the chocolate melts. Okay. I see a different woman test the chocolate, and write on the cake. She brings it over to me and shows me the cake and says "how's that?" The woman wrote on the paper "HBD, Andy." If I hadn't just paid $50 for the cake it would have been funny. No, I didn't say anything because I was in a hurry and it would have taken some time to fix it. Market Hall, please train your people how to pipe with chocolate. It was a crazy lopsided mess. However, the cake was delicious!

Yelp
Was craving something sweet and searched bakeries and Market Hall came up. My dog and I walked to Market Hall and found a line out the door and as you know, any place with a wait has to be good! I secured my pup outside and got in line for the bakery side. The staff was friendly and the line moved quickly. When it was my turn the choices seemed endless. The cases were full of delicious-looking baked goods. I picked out a slice of carrot cake and Black Magic Cake. The carrot cake was moist and the cream cheese frosting light and smooth. The Black Magic Cake was chocolaty goodness. Layers of devil foods cake and chocolate mousse all covered in dark chocolate ganache. I would recommend both to anyone looking for something sweet and delicious.

Yelp
I love stopping by to pick up some of the pre-packaged main choices, it is such a nice way to treat yourself out of a cooking chore. They also have good meatless options like the butternut and kale lasagna. Or go hog wild with St. Louis style ribs which come with mashed potatoes and sprouts. There is always something new or seasonal to try. The cheese shop also has great selections and the available condiments, chocolates, pastas are all fun foodie fodder.

Yelp
Market Hall Foods is the cornerstone of Rockridge Market Hall. With a range of offerings from fresh (made-to-order! as well as pre-portioned) pastas to hot and cool gourmet deli foods and accoutrements to local and fancy ice creams, this place has just about everything you'd want in a gourmet food store. Have a particular palate about something? Are you expertly discerning about olive oil, mustards, balsamic vinegar, etc. Yes, they will have 15 different varieties to offer. I'm not exaggerating. Be careful though; this place can get expensive quickly. OK, it is pricey to begin with, but you're paying for convenience, location, quality, and ambiance. That said, if you're just looking for any old balsamic vinegar, check which one you're buying. You'll may want the $10 one, and not the $200 one. Downsides to being so awesome are that they can be busy and (pre-COVID) quite crowded. Prepping for a holiday celebration? You definitely want to get a jump on the crowd. If you're ordering from the deli and want to avoid the plastic containers, just ask them to use a paper container. Pro tip, if you want to further avoid waste and don't want a separate container for each thing (maybe to make it easier to carry, or if you're ordering a meal for yourself and everything is compatible), ask to put it all in one container and have the person helping you "tare" the box between items. Do you like cheese? No, seriously, do you like cheese? This place puts other cheese shops to blame. They have a tremendous variety from sheep, goat, and cow (and blends) and the people who work the cheese counter are incredibly knowledgeable. Have a particular cheese in mind? They'll find it for you, or suggest something similar. Don't know what to get? They can use your preferences and palate to figure out cheeses for you! Best part (also pre-COVID), is that they'll cut you a sample of whatever you want to try. Seriously, you can make a meal just on cheese here, with an ACME (or Semifreddis, if that's your preference) baguette or Pain au Levin. (OK, ok. . . I'll confess that I've done that at least once. Or twice. or . . . OK, I'll stop counting.) This place is amazing, and they've done a great job limiting clientele with the pandemic. It takes a while to get in if there's a line, but once in, you're no longer bumping into people as you shop.

Yelp
This place was a great little find for me . First time visiting on a Sunday afternoon bustling with customers but good vibes from the people working there . When you first walk in, there's a coffee shop I had a cappuccino it was stellar. My friends and I browsed around . We made our way over to the cheese counter The gentleman there was so nice and giving us all of the suggestions for the things we may like. Lastly, we visited the deli counter we ordered a plethora of items to take home . Let's not forget the baked goods everything was fabulous. I like this place must visit. Oh almost forgot KALE salad 10/10 highly recommend..

Yelp
I shop here quite often even though I live 2 cities away. I don't even work nearby. I walk up in there sometimes like I run the joint and I so DO NOT, can't blame a sis for always amusing herself. My hand is raised because that would be I. Lmfao wit a wooo-wooo-oooooo. Market Hall lures you in with the specialty merchandise and the merchandising of the specialty merchandise- that part, a mouthful. When I am feeling extraordinarily ignorant I go buy the 40.00 teas and 90.00 advent calendars with the 20.00 jams/confits. This market is a purveyor of imported foods and truly well curated with delicate little things everywhere. Just make sure you eat after you shop here because if you come with a full belly you gonna be knocking shit down everywhere you turn. Yea it's tight up in that curated money trap. But hey, I wouldn't have it any other way. I prolly would think that they were going out of business if items were merchandised where people could walk through freely. ‍

Yelp
Wonderful place for hard to find groceries. Wide deli selection, as well as a great bakery section. Oakland location is far larger and has a much better selection of products .

Daryl S.

Yelp
Great quality food, but kind of expensive. I've been going here for many many years and never disappointed on the quality of the food. it's nice and convenient that there are so many different components to this Market Hall- produce, deli, meat, market, coffee, wine and bakery.

Cynthia L.

Yelp
First time checking out this market from recommendation and I must say it's quite cute. They offer a lot of stuff you normally won't find like European imported teas, cookies, spices, etc. On top of it all, their deli is expansive where you can get meat of multiple varieties, side dishes, as well as fresh made up uncooked ravioli pasta. Right now due to Covid, they've sectioned off parts of the store so that if you're going in for the market itself, that's one entrance. The butcher/seafood section can be entered through a different entrance. And the last one is for the bakery/baked goods/cakes/desserts. To try out their products, I bought a slice of tiramisu cake and two mixed berries panna cottas. The panna cotta is a bit sour since it's lemon flavored but it's super thick and creamy, similar to a cheesecake texture. The berries are fresh too which is appreciated. I didn't try the tiramisu as it was for my dad but he said it was alright. However, he did mention the bottom being a bit soggy. Perhaps the lady fingers absorbed too much of the liquid? All in all, definitely looking forward to coming back and trying more baked breads. Some looked absolutely delicious. Be forewarned, parking is a hassle since it's street parking in a block with a bunch of other shops and restaurants.

Regan T.

Yelp
Love this place for an artisan higher-end ingredient trip. During COVID, they're only allowing 10 customers in at a time with a socially distant line and hand sanitizer outside. The line moves quickly though as the shop itself is quite small and there isn't much room to spend too much time in there! Their fresh pasta was my main attraction. We got half a pound each of porcini & mushroom ravioli and garlic pappardelle. They were unfortunately out of the lemon pasta even though we went in around noon. The ravioli costs more per pound and you also get less because the filling takes up weight. The fresh pasta sheets are cut to order based on your preference of thickness, ranging from thick pappardelle to thin spaghetti strands! There were other flavors like whole grain and spinach and they were only $4.95 per pound. Pretty affordable for what it is. They have some imported jarred pasta sauces as well as fresh made ones in the fridge. We opted for the porcini tomato sauce, which only came in one size for $5.95. Again heftier in price than your average jar of Prego but also way fresher and more flavorful. They also have a pretty extensive meat section (hams, sausages, cold cuts), hot bar (mac and cheese, rotisserie chicken, etc), and salad bar (chicken salad, pasta salads, noodles, beets, etc). Their cheeses seem to take up a large part of their store but we didn't get anything. Next time!

Hazel C.

Yelp
I left work early after the Shelter In Place directive was announced. I needed coffee beans from Highwire so I decided to stop by Market Hall to get some prepared food and pantry items. They are limiting the number of shoppers in the Cheese Shop and prepared food area to 18 people at a time, so there will be a line outside. They need to keep people 6 ft apart even when they're in line though. We have a lot of food at home already so we got some other goodies you can only get here. Their Rotisserie Chicken is great so we got a whole one and had them cut it up in 8 pieces. We also got my favorite San Daniele prosciutto. I don't cook pasta all that often but their dried pasta from Italy is very good and the spaghetti was on sale at $2.99 a lb so I got some. They ran out of my favorite Truffle Mousse Pâté so I got some Chicken Liver Mousse instead. Their pie crust is very flaky and buttery so I got one. They were almost out of Acme baguettes. I got one of the last ones. My favorite cheeses here are the Challerhocker and the Époisses de Bourgogne. I get them here pretty regularly for an easy dinner and for parties. Their fresh goat, ricotta and mozzarella are also fantastic. Their prepared foods here are much better than Whole Foods and Safeway. You can't go wrong with any of them but I love their Thai Tofu Salad, Dragon Noodles, Kale Caesar, Meatloaf, Meatballs, Orzo Salad, and Curried Chicken Salad. I didn't buy any baked treats but it looked their bakery was almost wiped out except for cookies. There are separate lines for the Hapuku/Marin Sun Farms/Wine Shop area, and Market Hall Produce area, so they can control the number of people shopping in those areas as well. Be prepared to wait a little bit to get your shopping errands done. We will be back!

Yelp
Really great place So many great items here, olive oils, balsamics, fresh produce, bread, pasta items, love it & spend way too much here. Now my TROLL loser followers will say that this review is FUNNY! Pay NO attention to that TRASH! This is a great place to indulge. YUM!

Roshan S.

Yelp
This place is amazing! My fiancé and I picked up some delicious pre made ravioli for a wedding celebration and had plenty of equally awesome options to choose. Big shout out to Matt (the self proclaimed cheese monger) for taking extra time to offer his advice on what sauces paired well with pasta, and what crackers to pair with the dips we got.

Catherine R.

Yelp
The cutest European style market in all of the east bay. Such delicious food on deck at all times from the hot/cold bar.

Josh N.

Yelp
Great prepared foods. But $11 for a small box of mazzos? Normally $3 or $4 in any store. Total price gouging, and to people celebrating a religious holiday no less. Not cool.

Jane C.

Yelp
Kudos to Market Hall for their Thanksgiving dishes and pick-up system. I ordered Brussels sprouts, cranberry sauce, gravy and pumpkin pies (don't judge - I'm 73 and hosted 12, plus another 15 later on) - everything was great. Especially loved the sprouts. As promised, a table in the parking lot was staffed w/ cheerful people happy to trot inside for my order @ the schedule time. Contributed to a slightly less exhausting, extra-happy holiday. Thanks, Market Hall.

Cheryl M.

Yelp
I've been shopping here over the years and surprised I never wrote a review...Anyhooooo, I love their variety of specialty pastas, sauces, cheeses, hard-to-find items, meats, prepared food and of course, the BAKERY section! Sadly I love it a little too much! This review is for their: :: SPICY BEEF TURNOVER - Helllooo?!! Ground beef with carrots with a Latin flare... Sadly that's all I remember as I scarfed it down so fast...no shame! Loved the flavors of this bad boy and the flakiness of the pastry...Pricey yes, but worth it. Makes for a nice meal accompanied with a green salad :: ALMOND RICCIARELLI COOKIES - O-M- 'almond' GAWD for the yumminess factor and sticker shock ($20/LB)...um worth it! These are some of the best...if you love the flavor of almond you gotta get...I'll even go with.... :: LEMON CHEESECAKE - lemon - check!...cheesecake - check! creamy, decadent, slightly tart but not overly sweet...check! check! check! One of the best in the area IMO... They used to carry an angel food cake that was heavenly...yes pun intended for this cake! Light, slight almond (I'm sorry I love almond goodies)!) and pillowy....which is only offered on certain days or special order. The rosemary foccacia and other freshly baked breads.... what more is there to say?! Definitely worth a visit to pick up and go or take a leisure break and chill at one of their tables. Of course these items are not cheap but so calorie and debt-worthy to impress friends/family with a special brunch...and at these prices, heck you must be close to bestie status or blood-related to get any! ;) Plenty of street parking and next to Rockridge BART...place gets busy after work and weekends

Leonora R.

Yelp
The lines are crazy BUT it's for a reason, food is great, service is as fast as it can be but most of all friendly and respectful. Love their curbside pick up and their Ranch dressing

Rochelle F.

Yelp
I had the honor and pleasure of ordering a breakfast spread for a going away party for a work colleague. They requested a place I had never been before, Market Hall Foods, from first contact the catering manager was a dream to work with, explained things in detail, maybe wonderful suggestions and was kind when we had to create a few changes in the initial menu. When I went to pick it up, I got lost, and this lovely young woman, looked at maps and landmarks to help me find my destination and when I arrived with the food, cups, plats, cutlery and tent cards for our beautiful display was carefully packed away for us. It was such an incredible spread, I can't wait for another opportunity to taste their catered delights. Thank you Market Hall Foods for being one of the best parts of our wonderful party for a very cherished friend.

Leah V.

Yelp
Market Hall is a food lover's dream! They have so many unique and artisanal items. Their prepared foods section in the deli is my absolute favorite. The Kale Caesar Salad and Chicken Curry chicken salad are divine. I crave that Chicken Curry!! I took a gamble on their cheese seed bread and was not disappointed. Make sure to grab a deli ticket number at the door if you want to order something from the prepared foods section. They have an incredible and expansive cheese assortment as well. I splurged on a truffle cheese from Sardinia and loved the strong truffle flavor. During covid, they have several lines outside for different parts of the store to help limit capacity - the meat counter, produce section, Market Hall foods, etc. Market Hall foods has the longest line on a Friday evening, but the line moved quickly. The smaller produce area did not have a wait. Employees are kind and very knowledgeable. Every employee - from the security representatives to the cashiers - provide excellent advice on pairings and ingredients. Tap into their expertise if you have any questions!

Willette I.

Yelp
I come here so often when I don't feel like cooking. MH has a huge prepared food section with hot and cold options that they change daily. My standard order is the kale Caesar salad and any protein that looks good that day. We usually order the meatballs in tomato sauce or the tequila lime rotisserie half chicken. They had a braised chicken with pomegranates that looked good today but I didn't have time to taste it. Did I mention that you can ask to taste anything before you commit?? My daughter loves their tofu salad, roasted eggplant salad and chocolate pudding. They have a very knowledgeable cheese shop and a great gourmet sectIon for those hard to find items in your international cookbooks. Highwire Coffee is located at their College exit so get a coffee and peruse the bakery as you leave.

Jan H.

Yelp
This place consistently leaves out food items from the basket the order has been designated to be in. Before checking out, be sure to not be distracted in any way because whatever you thought you were bringing home for dinner won't be in your bag. Disgusted with this place.

Gayle G.

Yelp
We love this market. They always have unique food items, great selection of olive oils , vinegars. They have a fantastic deli area, fresh pastas, Italian prosciutto, speck, good variety of cheeses, they also have many take out ready prepared foods.

Bernadette F.

Yelp
Love this place... great finds especially at the bakery! One of my favorite items at the bakery are the tres leches and chocolate cake! Both cakes are rich and moist! Also, there has been several times I have came to the bakery for a tres leches cake, and they have sold out, hence how I ended up getting the chocolate cake. This is exactly how I discovered their chocolate cake is just as wonderful! So, highly recommend calling the bakery and asking if the tres leches cake is still available if that is what you plan to pick up. As for their pizza from the bakery, it is a little too greasy! It definitely requires a pat down with some napkins! And parking has never been a problem, I somehow get lucky in finding street parking easily!

Mutant O.

Yelp
Being in the neighborhood and having a bad case of the slows today, I queued for entry to Market Hall. It was worth the wait. The salads were very fresh and well-seasoned, the chicken hand pies exceptionally tasty. But best of all, the peach galette was exquisitely peachy! (Better than Market Hall on Fourth!!)

Lanny B.

Yelp
Imagine the everything-you-need-in-a-pinch convenience of 7-11 mashed up with the gourmet opposite of everything 7-11 represents...and that's Market Hall. Their prepared food is excellent. Well-made, great ingredients and options that change all the time. Huge highlight: the rotisserie chicken is amazing. The cheeseshop is excellent, with countless great selections that turn over fast so it is all super fresh. Great fresh pastas, huge selection of top grade oils, and all manner of tasty salts, mustards, sauces. The fish market has tons of fresh options, and the meat market/butcher has premium meats. There's a small grocery beyond the gourmet hall where you can get fruits and veggies, eggs and basic staples. Wine, flowers, coffee, bakery. I mean...done and done, again and again

Ivy Z.

Yelp
Me on the way to Market Hall: bready or not, here I crumb! My housemate sent me on a mission to retrieve some Market Hall cheese bread for her this past weekend. After arriving and seeing the cheese bread, I was drooling to purchase another one for myself. Every bite was filled with nice crispy crust, soft flavorful interior, and cheesy goodness! This boutique market is a treasure for sure, but stop by especially to taste their cheese bread!

David L.

Yelp
Whenever my wife asks me to pick up dinner, I go to Market Hall. There are so many options. What's extra nice is that they have options for people who have allergies. If you have a garlic allergy, you can ask them to go through the different dishes on display and they will tell you what has garlic and what doesn't. They also have items that you can have as your main or your side. And everything is really healthy. Of course, the food tastes delicious too. I went to pick up dinner there this past week and they have a lot of seasonal items right now there too. I was checking out and noticed a pumpkin whoopie pie. Whoopie it was!!!

Alannah P.

Yelp
One of my favorite markets ever! From the fresh pastas to locally-sourced meat and cheeses, this is a foodie haven. I've been able to find so many accompaniments and items that I've previously purchased abroad. The staff in the butcher shop are so incredibly friendly, and I absolutely love popping in to get something special to spice up my pantry or dishes. If you are looking for picnic fixings or gourmet gifts, this is definitely the place to go! Check out their other locations as well :)

Tomodachi B.

Yelp
I wish I was leaving a review for the amazing selection of baked goods I have yet to try from this business. Unfortunately, we popped in for Highwire coffee and ONE SOUR BAGUETTE. The baguette: rock hard and ultra thin/on the skinny side. My guess is the bread was days old. I've had Josie Baker breads and other traditional style sour batards but this loaf doesn't cut it. I think they should charge less for 'day-olds'. It was my fault for wanting to be quick and not touch too many surfaces in the shop. I was being careful (health-wise) but could have done better to select my purchase mindfully. We will definitely be back to try other breads and update the review soon.

Yelp

Yelp
When The Pasta Shop changed it's name & Yelp listing to Market Hall Foods (http://rockridgemarkethall.com/market-hall-foods/we-are-changing-our-name), someone at Yelp combined the listing with the Rockridge Market Hall listing, which is not the same thing! Anyway, I'll keep this short & sweet. I've shopped at The Pasta Shop and now Market Hall Foods for years since we moved to Oakland. They have a great cheese counter, fresh pastas, prepared foods, and an eclectic selection of international ingredients. Similar staple items may be pricier than at Trader Joe's on the other side of 24, but there's a lot of great stuff here that you'll never find at a TJ's. The workers have been very friendly and helpful. Shop local!

Yelp
This is a review for market hall cheese counter and deli. (The bakery has always been great and the service lovely.) Today, for the third time, when I paid with a card the cashier quickly grabbed the payment device and hit the $3 tip button without my authorization. I've seen them do this before. The first time this happened it was so quick I thought I was mistaken. The second time - some weeks later - it happened again so it confirmed my previous experience. Since then I avoided market hall for some months. But today, it happened again. The person ringing up my purchases quickly grabbed the scanning device and added the self-tip. This practice seems to be so consistent that it must be at least tacitly endorsed by the management. Market hall prices are already quite high but what amounts to a 30% tip (that the cashier gave herself) is ridiculous. And the workers are almost always rude and surly. So buyer beware: be sure to hold onto the card scanner before the cashier-scammer grabs it away and adds a tip for their crabby service.

Yelp
My go-to for picnic supplies or a nice food-related gift for people since prices are out of a college student's budget most of the time. Well-stocked deli/bakery with a wide variety of high quality foods. They have a butcher, cheese, and readymade food section in the main section of the store. They also sell all sorts of condiments, chocolate, vegetables, and Acme and Semifreddi's bread. Tends to get much busier during the evening and on weekends, as expected. The employees here are super nice and will let you sample just about anything if you're torn on making a purchase or need some help with deciding

Yelp
OMG, company coming and your meeting ran late and you need to get dinner on the table. You don't want your guests to know you went to Whole Foods and got takeout? Go to Market Hall Foods instead and fool everyone into thinking you are a fabulous cook. Don't go at the very last minute because the good stuff goes fast. But go! I love just about everything they have. Honestly you can't go wrong. And frankly that place is a Disneyland for the foodies that cook like me. Prime ingredients!!! It's all about the quality. They have cheese, fresh pasta, fish stock!!!, pie crust (it's as good as homemade, trust me. I always buy my holiday ingredients at Market Hall. And gifts, don't get me started. They have jams and honey, candy, sauces, cookies - all that stuff that you can put into individual pretty bags for hostess gifts that will make you the favorite guest to invite. We buy our dry pasta there too. They even have the fancy stuff in bulk!!!!! And the cheese. That counter is evil. I never leave without something! I can't help myself. They really need to have a 12 step program for me. I get way too excited over the fabulous selection of gourmet items. It's like if you took Williams-Sonoma and removed the cookware and just concentrated on food. That's about the quality they are. Probably not the best description there but how does one explain one's biggest vice?? Gourmet food buying. It's a thing, it's real. And no one wants me to get help. Heh heh. Hope to run into you there!!!

Yelp
I've passed through MHF for years and being a local, you kinda take it for granted. I met up with Viyada S for coffee on a Saturday and rediscovered how quaint this place is. The Thai Chai at was great at Highwire! Kind service and the barista was very informative as to what's in my drink. Spent $25 on pastries at MH Bakery. Blueberry scones filled with fruit. Spicy Beef and Chicken pies were savory. A few samples were delicious, however sold out. I understand some delicacies are pulled at 1:00PM and donated to others in need. Nice. As I browsed other shops, there's quite a few of unique condiments and pantry items you don't find in many places. The fish and meat looked fresh. I'll need to prepare a shopping list and bring plenty of money!

Yelp
Market Hall is really a hidden treasure for so many people that don't frequent the Rockridge Oakland area often. I have been coming here bi weekly for over a decade now and the selection is so wonderfully overwhelming and delicious. You start out in the coffee shop/attached bakery. You can buy pastry, pizza, cheese bread, danish, cakes, everything from savory cheddar and chive biscuits and beyond. Once you walk through that section you will see all the lovely bottled oils, sauces, dried imported pastas and specialty items. Come here around Christmas time and there will be a plethora of Pannetone, German chocolates, imported Christmas items from around the world. Past the pastas and sauces you will see the dairy case which has a very thorough selection of cheeses from around the world, chutneys, crackers, etc... There is also a huge section of refrigerated items like sauces, frozen like soups and meals to take and enjoy later. The pasta case is one of my favorites, they always have little baskets of daily old pastas which are delicious as well and come in smaller amounts and are typically a totally different flavor than what they have presently. The other day I found a delicious truffle and porcini in the day old basket and I also ordered my favorites three cheese and lemon ricotta ravioli. You can also get fresh pasta sheets to make a lasagna, they will also cut the sheets into taglielle, papardelle, fettucine, bucatini, whatever you like. These cook super quickly and have a lovely doughy flavor. The best part though is their roasted tomato sauce, it is hands down the best sauce I have ever had. Get it! The rest of the deli case which is expansive, contains salads, noodle dishes, meatloaf, grilled marinated tofu, bbq chicken, the selections change daily. They also always have two good soups, usually one is vegetarian. The rest of the store carries all sorts of imported specialities, teas, candies, etc.. At the very back of the hall is a produce area with all sorts of veggies and fruits as well as a nice little wine section. This place has everything you could need for a fabulous dinner party, intimate date or just a nice lunch and dinner.

Yelp
It's a really lovely store. The cheeses are amazing! Pre covid they would let you try them and we always ended up buying them all. They also have great pasta, pastry (princess cake yum!) and so much more.
