I’ve been to Market North End several times and the food is always good, this time our service was just okay. My biggest complaint was after receiving our food we were not checked on at all by our server until the end. This is a pet peeve, and thankfully our table was okay and didn’t need anything. We started with the house bread, which was great! So fresh and warm. The pesto dip was a big strong on garlic but overall good. We also ordered the Burrata, I wish the mushrooms had been cooked a bit harder. They were soft, with soft cheese and soft onions. Wanted more texture. The bread served with it was nice, but didn’t add the texture needed. The chicken sandwich was great! Highly recommend. Also loved the house made chips. Those were great. Ordered the beet avocado salad. There was very little avocado in the salad. That was disappointing. The chicken Cesar salad was good, average and exactly what you’d expect to get.

First time here, our server was fantastic. Food was great, wine too! Great place to hang out, have a date or catchup with friends. Will definitely come back!

Okay- let’s get down to it! The food here? Is PHENOMENAL. Been coming here for years and I have never walked out unsatisfied. Highly recommend their beet + arugula salad, any side dish of their potatoes is incomparable to anywhere else, however their arugula potatoes are top tier. Salmon and chicken always come out perfectly cooked and fresh. In terms of starters- im a sucker for their eggplant which is ordered as a side but I enjoy it to start- as well as their tenderloin tips! Love their pizzas- the bread/crust is ideal if you don’t want something super thick. And then finally I will say their Brussels are good although last time I was here they were slightly underdone. In terms of environment? Social, social, and more social. Not a place to go if you want to be lowkey. Bar is always packed to the brim and typically the same for tables as well- this says a lot about how great it is here, although it often gets overcrowded/too busy for my personal taste. But in terms of food? One of my favorite spots of all time in Bham. If it wasn’t so crowded/if they had more seating I would be tempted to eat here daily. Cheers!

Google
We had a great experience here, per usual! The house bread could have been my whole meal it was so delicious! I had the chopped chicken salad which was phenomenal! My friends had the pizza roll and one got the beet salad with salmon. The salmon wasn’t amazing but the salad was great! They also had the lentil soup and said they loved it (I’m not a lentil fan so I didn’t try it) The ice cream cookie for dessert was enough to share between 4 girls.

Google
Placed a pick up order in person. We were waiting for it inside the restaurant. They weren’t busy at all. The lady forgot to give us the whole order if we wouldnt tell her she wouldn’t even pay attention. The pizza was cold, the cheese was rubbery. The portion of grilled octopus was funny and too much oil. The price is $24 which’s nuts for that amount. Didn’t give us any napkins or plastic silverware. Didn’t even ask us if we need some. The dessert we got was cinnamon apple roll didn’t taste good at all. Tasted like a bread

Google
Phenomenal food. Amazing drinks. Try their garlic soup and you MUST have some of their apps - bread, hummus, kafta, salads. All amazing and great for larger groups. Be careful about going here on a busy day - aka the holidays or the weekends. It gets a bit slow, so if you’re looking to sit and hang for a while, that’s all good. If not consider somewhere else b

Had a great time here. A little loud, but the food and drinks were amazing. Shawn, our server, was great. 10/10

Google
Came in around 5pm on a Wednesday without a reservation and was able to get a table right away. Place was definitely full around 6. The overall vibe of the place is very cool and earthy. The fresh bread was recommended and it did not disappoint. The green dip and labneh was so delicious that I dipped the steak from my entree in it. Server was very attentive and sweet. Definitely coming back soon!

Yelp
Great food and prices! Cute downtown Birmingham restaurant off old Woodward. Relaxed atmosphere. Recommend the market bread!

Yelp
5 stars across the board!!!! From ambiance, to service, to the food, everything here give an excellent Birmingham experience. A good friend and I decided to come here in a Saturday evening with no reservation. Upon arrival for two, our wait was 40 mins but the table was ready for us in 15 mins! I unfortunately didn't get any photos because we were starved but it was a vegetarian night, so we had Brussels sprouts, roasted cauliflower, and fries, and a few drinks and it was chefs kiss. Please guys give them a try, FANTASTIC!

Yelp
Born and raised down here, I was excited to be back although so much of Bham has changed. Waahhh!! We walked in yesterday to grab a quick bite. Sat for 15 minutes before we were acknowledged. Yes they were busy for a Thursday at 3:30-4 but we were at a table that everyone walked passed- in the way-- if you will. I think that soured me. I seen 6 different servers and a manager and not one stopped to see if he had been helped. Nonetheless, finally ordered. House bread was best. Nothing comes out hot, just warm. The speed that which they came, coupled with the warmth of my dishes-- they had to be done in large batches and kept under a warmer. Nothing seemed fresh if that makes sense. Another thing, this is Birmingham I expect the restaurant to be kept up. The restaurant is dated and the baskets they have as lights are all askew. There is one to the right of the bar that was literally like a spot light on someone. But don't worry, they keep the place darker so.. All this for $100. Thanks but no thanks.

Yelp
Came here around 6:45pm on a Tuesday and we were able to be seated immediately. Place is very cute and was buzzy even on a weeknight. Service was friendly and the pacing of the food was perfect, our mains came out just as we were wrapping up with our appetizers. We split a few dishes, starting with the chopped salad and the house bread. House bread is realistically a bit overpriced at $9 but everything else was very reasonable. Salad was good but a bit one-dimensional. We also got the cauliflower (decent, but missing something - a squeeze of lemon could have gone a long way). The buttermilk chicken sandwich ($19) was delicious but the fries were just okay. Portions of everything were large. Bill was very reasonable. I probably wouldn't rush back for any of the food, to be honest, but the vibes were nice. Maybe a good spot for a drink/app before getting dinner elsewhere.

Yelp
Never had a bad experience. Everything is amazing from the pizzas to the pastas to the salads. Apple walnut salad and watermelon salads are my fav, but all are great. Busy atmosphere and nice ambiance. Great service and staff.
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
It is absolutely mandatory to make a reservation otherwise you will wait over an hour for a table. The food is very good however it is small inside and very loud and dim. The service is not rushed which makes it nice for catching up with friends.

Yelp
Over the years, Market North End has consistently migrated towards being a singles bar. But we still got carry out for the best risotto ever. Now they stopped making any risotto. So sad.
google avatar

Sophie B.

Yelp
My experience here was pretty average. I had a pizza and it was good, not pretty. I loved the vibes of the restaurant - it was very fun and inviting!

Yelp
Another great night at Market North End! Loved the food and good service. Be prepared for no AC when you go.... It was hot!!!

Stephanie K.

Yelp
Came in for a meal, noted we were vegan and vegetarian and the waitress had little idea of what to recommend. We ordered the bread, Brussels, Pappardelle and the chopped Greek. The Brussels sprouts and bread were great. Both our mains were super lacking and not big portions. I asked for a mocktail and they only said something sweet and fruity, something citrusy, something herbal. No ingredients or names. What gave me the ick is that we were sitting by a table of three younger women and this older guy who seemed to be the owner was only talking to them and was giving major ick vibes and skeezeball energy. Bragging about the restaurant and honestly it was unfortunate to witness. Left a bad taste in our mouths and likely will never return.

Yelp
It has been a hot minute since I was here and I'm not sure why I've been away so long! Food truly blew me away for the price point- some of the newer Birmingham spots have me expecting to be gouged for just OK food but I ordered the Branzini and it was fab! ($40 at Mex, $25 here) You should NEVER skip the bread service ($9 and sooooo worth it) but here are a few other surprises: Garlic Soup (comes out looking like French onion only prettier) was so good my friend said she's coming back just for that! Watermelon, feta & mint salad meant for sharing but finished solely by me! Tuna app can be a meal! Service was fantastic- so many places in town have unhappy staff (which points to very poor mgmt) but the vibe was light & comfortable here
google avatar

Vanitha C.

Yelp
Good ambiance, friendly staff, reasonable prices. We will definitely visit next time. Highly recommended! Five stars

Yelp
Delicious, refreshing lunch at this spot juts away from the heart of Birmingham. Went with a friend and we ate outside. We started with the bread service - which was very tasty. And then had the chopped salad which hit the spot. Plus left overs for tomorrow as the amount was plentiful. The patio was great. The service was friendly but not timed quite right. Overall we enjoyed our meal.

Yelp
Ambiance is busy and alive, food is amazing and the service was great. I got the bread and a friend chicken sandwich which was amazing. I need to come back to try a few more options.
google avatar

Rita G.

Yelp
I have enjoyed every single experience here. The food is always fresh and delicious. Great appetizers, especially the waterfall feta salad when in season. Mushroom pizza is my favorite and don't sleep on the bread. Lovely ambiance with windows all around. Friendly and caring staff.

Yelp
I've been a few times, and this last time it was just okay for me. The seating with the warm spring breeze was amazing. Our waitress was very good as well...but those were the highlights. I got a dip, but apparently, the dip does not come with anything (I mean anything) to dip in it. So you have to get the $8 bread, which was good but literally just one large piece of pita-ish bread. I also got Brussel sprouts, which were covered in sweet chili oil, maybe like 1 cup. If the oil was drizzled on, it would have been good but sweet Lord it was a lot. My friend got the chicken, which had been cooked within an inch of disintegration. The waitress took off the chicken, as well she should have. It was just ok for me. The drinks looked good...maybe that's where it ends.

Yelp
Solid lunch/dinner spot in downtown Birmingham. Really enjoyed the pizza salad combo - thought it was a good price for what you got. Ambiance is cute inside and would be a great date night spot or place to catch up with friends!

Paul C.

Yelp
I had a really disappointing experience at the restaurant today. The service was incredibly bad from the moment we walked in. The girl at the door completely ignored us and made no effort to acknowledge our presence. When we tried to ask for assistance, she acted like she didn't want to help and was visibly uninterested in providing any kind of customer service. It felt like we were bothering her just by being there. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable, and it left a really negative impression. I definitely won't be returning anytime soon.
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
It can be very loud in this restaurant. But, the food is consistently good. The house bread is light, fluffy, and simply DELICIOUS.
google avatar

Jeremy N.

Yelp
Cute little restaurant & bar in the heart of downtown Birmingham. This little restaurant is pretty cool. They offer a great bite to eat and drinks to make for a great evening with your significant other or a group of people. It's pretty dark in here, but the ambience lighting makes it look pretty cool inside. The restaurant seems like a narrow hallway but it goes back pretty far. We've been in here a few times in the evenings and it gets pretty jammed after 7pm, so plan accordingly! It'll get really loud too inside.

Yelp
Met up with a friend and enjoyed our dinner. Started with the calamari which was fried nicely and had spicy peppers. The Otto pizza was also very good with leeks, goat cheese and mushrooms. It has very good flavor and a nice crust. The mushroom pasta was a special and very flavorful. The one downside, is we wished the portion was a little bigger. I liked the decor and was popping on a Thursday night. Our server was very personable and helped by making suggestions on what she preferred and was very attentive the whole time. Definitely would go back.
google avatar

Rachel T.

Yelp
We went here for a friend's birthday outing. We sat outside which was nice! It was a little cramped but not a problem. Our server was so nice and thoughtful. We tried a few things for the table: house bread, garlic chicken soup, chick pea soup, kale salmon salad, and arugula potatoes. We also tried the strawberry fields cocktail and the server suggested to me a blueberry mule mocktail. Everything tasted great. We also had a surprise cake for a friend that we asked if they could keep in the back. We will definitely recommend this place to others.

Yelp
Wanted to try a new spot and a friend recommended Market North End. I'm so glad I listened because this place did not disappoint! Went at lunch time so there was a decent crowd but nothing too crazy, which I like. Got a table right away, hostess was friendly and welcoming, server was just as friendly and helpful when it came to questions about the food and drink items. Love the low lighting and chill vibes inside. Most important, the food is perfect. Everything from the starter to the dessert was so fresh, and it all tasted amazing! I will definitely be back to try the dinner menu out.

Yelp
Vibe of this place is so fun! Service was great as well. Food was okay! Would definitely come back and try something different.
google avatar

Jimin H.

Yelp
The pizza (not pictured) and the pasta were really good! Loveddd the pesto pasta! It gets veryyy busy so I would put your name down as soon as possible or go when they open! They also have a bar area that you can sit at. Good spot to go with friends but maybe a bit loud for a date night?
google avatar

Deena S.

Yelp
I've been to Market so many times over the last few years and it is so consistently amazing. I could eat here all the time because there are tons of great options. The prices are great, staff is always really friendly, and the atmosphere is fun. One of Birmingham's best!
google avatar

Rebecca M.

Yelp
I had lunch with colleagues at Market for the first time last week and can't believe I slept on this place for so long! The restaurant has a cute vibe and the service was friendly & efficient. I had the pappardelle with fried chicken and it was delicious! Parking is a little tough at lunchtime, just a heads up. I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was 7/10 and the service was great Dat! But very very slow. I think would come back and try other foods here ! I just hope the service isn't as slow next time.

Michele B.

Yelp
The food was fairly good. However - it is NOT worth the terrible service. The bartender was only interested in the heavy drinkers - repeatedly over-serving young party-boys who were clearly inebriated at 3 in the afternoon. The bartender rarely checked in and it took several attempts to flag them down when there were missing items from our order. Additionally, the hostess ignored the people vaping at the table behind her stand as they blew vape gases her way. There are better places to eat and spend your dining dollars. Find a restaurant that hires good people and trains its employees.

Yelp
Great place, was here for brunch on Sunday with girls, staff is knowledgeable and attentive. Drinks were very good and delicious food. Great inviting ambiance with lots of light all around.

Yelp
I have been here so many times in the last few yrs.. I gotta tell you it is one of BHAMS BEST!! Great service... Always greeted by the most sweetest, fashion hostess "Lisa"she's a smiling breath of fresh air! The food is always fresh & consistently delicious!! The "marinated chicken" I get every time I come here.! The House bread such a great starter! Wonsalads & lamb koftas!
google avatar

PJ S.

Yelp
Delicious and fun! I highly recommend this place for dates and beers with the boys, just make sure you can get in there ahead of time because they do fill up to capacity quickly most nights. Thanks market!
google avatar

DeMario M.

Yelp
Everything at this restaurant was good. We ordered a table full of food and it was . The hostess and waitress were super nice and attentive. The restaurant was packed and very busy but I didn't feel lost in the crowd by the staff. Highly recommend!!!
google avatar

Nour A.

Yelp
This was the second time I've been to market and both times I was so impressed with the quality of food, I'll always come back! First time I had the pizzas which were so crunchy and filling. This time I got the market chopped salad with added feta (which was whipped making it very light - the best way) and Rosemary potatoes which were to die for. My friend ordered the pesto pasta (not actually the name on the menu but) and it was delicious
google avatar

Leora G.

Yelp
Food, ambience and service always excellent at Market North End. Fantastic and diverse menu. Consistently excellent. Of note: If you're new to this establishment, there is no sign outside so it's hard to find. If you're there during prime hours, it's always jam-packed with people. Noisy, and difficult to get a table or spot at the bar. Definitely a popular bar scene. If you want someplace quiet to dine, this is not the place. Ha!
google avatar

Allyson M.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants. I love to come back for special occasions because I always know I'll have a great meal. We've tried a range of items and they're all a 4 or 5 out of 5. The hummus is one of our top shareables, and you can top with lamb, chicken, or a veggie option. We've tried both of the protein options and you can't go wrong! The house bread is also great to split. Whether it's my wife and I or we're with another couple, we really like splitting everything, even outside of the "shares" menu. We like to get a salad, a couple of entrees, and one or two veggies. I recommend the beet and avocado or the Caesar. You have to get a pasta (so fresh!) and something from the Plates section. The carrots, broccoli, or Brussels are great veggie options. We haven't tried a pizza or calzone, which seems crazy now that I think about it - next time for sure! Cocktails are wonderful, as well. Cheers!

Darian C.

Yelp
The food here was so great! We got the kale salad with salmon and a lamb burger and were so happy with both choices. Also a great vibe in here. It was very lively
google avatar

Natalie N.

Yelp
The house bread is delicious. Would highly recommend if you find yourself in Birmingham. Great ambiance too
google avatar

Melanie M.

Yelp
Second time visiting in the last month. Lunch menu differs from dinner menu. Tried the oysters ($3 each) and lamb burger. Fries were dry, which was disappointing. Had a Duvel to drink. Friend enjoyed the square brick oven pizza. Other friend had a handful of veggie sides and house bread. The house bread looked delicious. Street parking was easy to obtain. Service was slow, but the place was packed.
google avatar

Yelp
I went to Market North End around lunch time during the week. The food was delicious and they had lots of staff that would check in on us constantly, which was very nice. My favorite part was definitely the bread (pictured here). It was so fluffy, tasty, and delicious. It came out warm and the two dips were very good too. The rest of the food was fresh and it was brought out in a timely manner.
google avatar

A J.

Yelp
Very interesting, diverse menu. The vegan chick pea soup was delicious and filling. My drink was made very well. We sat by the window and were able to have a nice conversation. The restaurant was full, but the noise level was ok. Alex, our waiter did a good job.

Yelp
Reservation ONLY? We have been going here for years and no idea why they switched to this new format?? I really hate writing this about a place our family has ABSOLUTELY LOVED FOR YEARS until this.... It seems like they are trying to be a "trendy spot" with this new change...? Even the girls at the front desk have gotten "snottier". I have a feeling more feel like me, but silently have moved on already. Very disappointing ***Would gladly update if/when they change back to a simple "walk in" system like 95% of the other restaurants in the area/world.***

Imad A.

Yelp
Friendly staff Great food and drinks , other then the long waiting to get a table i have no complaints.
google avatar

Stephanie K.

Yelp
Ate here yesterday...spur of the moment lunch with my husband. Walked in & seated immediately (1:00 on a Tuesday...still busy but tables available). Bread service alone is worth the visit. Our server recommended the chicken chopped salad & a sandwich. We split both. I had a delicious rosé. Will definitely be back soon!

Brittany H.

Yelp
Large portions for affordable prices. Servers are nice and the vibe is cute! Also have outdoor seating.
google avatar

Emily B.

Yelp
This place is consistently amazing! I could eat here every day because there are so many great options. Fun vibe. Does get busy on the evenings Thursday & weekend but you can make a reservation online if you have 6 or less (don't quote me). Great drinks, great food!
google avatar

Yelp
We had the time of our LIFE at Market North End for our team's holiday party. We ordered just about everything on the menu and it tasted great. Including: Pizza rolls House bread Hummus Potato spread Chocolate tarte Cheesecake Cookie sandwich (Maybe a cinnamon bread?) Salads Ribs Grilled Cheese Fried chicken sandwich I think we all left feeling satisfied, based on the way we waddled back to the cars. It was packed and it can get LOUD, but that didn't detour us. Only thing I can think of is the fried chicken sandwich isn't as crispy as you'd imagine, but still flavorful. The Apple salad also does not come with any greens, which was a surprise for me. That being said, you can ask them to add it in. Parking is always a hassle in Birmingham, but it's hardly unique to this restaurant. Hoping we will be back for lunch here again soon.
google avatar

Ben K.

Yelp
Came here for dinner. Made a reservation online prior. Was sat right away after walking to the front door. Sat in the semi outside area with heaters. But, my wife and I wish we were in the actual restaurant part indoors that wasn't near the heaters outside. It was definitely chillier by the windows. But, I saw someone ask if they could be moved when they were sat in a table near us and they said no. The restaurant was definitely not full as we were sat around 530pm. The house bread was great. My wife got the chopped salad and I had the fried chicken. The first piece of fried chicken was good but 2nd piece was all kind of fatty. The potatoes and carrots were very good. I've ate here before and had enjoyed my pizza and salad, so maybe I will stick with that next time. I'll def come again.

Yelp
I chose not to eat here after not being able to get outdoor seating. I won't be returning because of the rude hostess. I still wear a mask when I'm indoors and I prefer to sit outdoors when I'm dining out. To the majority of people in August 2022 who no longer wear masks, "you do you." This review is not a lecture on mask-wearing and social distancing. It is to make those who do still take Covid precautions aware that your concerns will not be taken seriously here. I told the hostess that I wanted to dine at a table on the patio. The hostess told me to sit at a table for two that was on the edge of the patio and the indoor dining area. I'd be crammed next to another table of diners and surrounded by other diners without access to a lot of circulation of fresh air, which defeats the purpose of outdoor dining for Covid safety. I pointed out an empty table that was furthest away from the indoor seating and had more access to fresh air. She told me she could not give me that table because it was a table for four and she wanted to save it in case a larger group came in. I was fine with her reasoning, but I chose to leave based on my discomfort with sitting near the crowded indoor dining area. I politely told her that I would rather not sit at the table she wanted to place me because I was trying to stay safe from Covid and that I would be leaving. It was her reaction that really took me aback. She dismissed me and said, "You've got to be kidding." She rudely turned away from me and did not apologize or say anything else to me as I walked out. It all turned out for the best because I went down the street and ate at Luxe Bar and Grill where there was outdoor seating, it was less rowdy, and I received a nice waitress. I recommend going to Luxe instead!
