"And if you’re in Amesbury in the morning (because you got there early, or because you did the responsible thing and didn’t drive back to the city after all of that indulging), grab a coffee and a pastry at the Market Square Bakehouse or Ovedia. A couple of damn fine cups of coffee in a damn fine little city." - Terrence Doyle

Google
Love this little bake shop. Good atmosphere and very fast service. The hot drinks are always delicious, hit or miss with iced for some reason. Still love to come here with my family, but it is small and can get crazy especially on weekends. During warmer weather it’s awesome to come sit at their outdoor space!

Google
Literally my favorite place to go and grab coffee and a snack or a full lunch! The breakfast wraps are fire and if you haven’t had the ham and manchego sandwich then you have to try it!! The staff is so friendly and and make the best lattes in the Amesbury AND Newburyport area. I once sat at a table on a Friday morning and just read a book for a couple hours. The vibe is the perfect space, it’s like what you see coffee shops are like in the movies!!

Google
lovely coffee shop in Amesbury at the roundabout; delicious breakfast treats and coffee is A+; the lunch sandwiches are not bad either;

The Hot Chocolate was so amazing. My only complaint was it wasn’t filled up to the top because it was so good.

Google
A five-star review to a well-deserved location Market Square Bakehouse! Great service and the invigorating turmeric latte and delicious Swiss and Ham Croissant just made me feel so happy and delightful. What a treat! Especially a day like today that it rained most of the day. Thank you Market Square Bakehouse!

Google
In a charming town with hanging baskets and friendly locals we discovered this bakery for lunch. Lattes was great and the paninis were crusty and eclectic. Blueberry muffin was excellent . (I took one star off as we stared at the huge menu board for 5 minutes , ordered then were told actually none of them were actually available and to only pick from the display unit lol ). Has a very nice outside area and inside area. Parking around the corner . Nice Staff and Dog friendly :) .

Google
An enjoyable little cafe that serves all types of coffee ☕. Pastries, 🥪 sandwiches, tea 🍵 and canned and bottled drinks available. Friendly service! WiFi available. I had the medium roast coffee with three donut muffins to wash it down. Both tasted good. This place can get very busy! People were using the outdoor seating to enjoy their purchase. I liked the lighting fixtures. Large mason 🫙 jars with a small 💡 lightbulb inside. Bathroom is handicap accessible and has a baby changing 🚼 table. Prices reasonable. I recommend a visit.

To start off, I’d like to say that I have really enjoyed my past experiences at this place. The sandwiches, coffee, and pastries are top notch. However, I was served by someone clearly ill today, which is disgusting and unacceptable. I no longer feel safe coming to Bakehouse with my mother who is immunocompromised. I’m shocked at this utter disregard for public safety by management in the wake of a viral pandemic. This is shameful and dangerous behavior and I hope in the future this business will keep their sick employees at home where they belong.

Yelp
Amazing unique sweets. Delicious and baked fresh smells great inside. Owner is friendly

Yelp
Great coffee and a delicious breakfast sandwich Great ambiance! Give this cozy nook a try

Michael W.

Yelp
It's fine. Just fine. The sandwiches are premade. Just sitting in a case waiting to be reheated. Point at the cold sandwich made 5hrs previously and they will put in a panini press until the outside is hot and the inside is tepid. Nice coffee.

Yelp
The Bakehouse was an absolutely wonderful stop along our journey back from a ski trip. Located right off the highway in the town of Amesbury, it's easily accessible. The space is very warm and inviting with rustic undertones and plenty of patio space outside for those New England summer days. Must haves include the breakfast sandwich, spinach feta croissant, and honestly, all the pastries are phenomenal. The Bakehouse is a must visit!

Yelp
Aesthetically my dog and I are drawn to "Market Square Bakehouse", after we walk the Amesbury Riverwalk, we can sit in an outdoor cafe with a fantastic view of downtown. They do have indoor seating but it's nice in the summer to sit at a patio table, with an umbrella for shade, with all my fellow dog lovers. Market Square gives complimentary dog cookies and has a water bowl on the patio for all thirsty pups. I'm not a fan of the taste of the coffee from Market Square something just tastes off to me, but I do enjoy the quiche, kouign- amann and bagels in the morning.

Yelp
It was dark when I hurried inside out of the rain but I figured it was the weather. The bakery is located in an adorably historic part of Amesbury. The staff was efficient but really didn't know answers to queries about methods for production. They were merely there to give you your coffee and danish. The pastries looked yummy & I was hopeful with such unique flavor choices for scones. Sadly, when I got back to the car and took a bite of the scone ... it was too hard to bite into and I had to break it difficultly. I began choking on the dryness of the scones and could not help myself even with water or my coffee ... so much so ... that when I arrived at my second stop that day I was still choking a bit and my voice sounded graveling from the uncleared tiny dry bits of the Scone. A friend I saw later in the morning grabbed the Scone out of the bag and said it was probably fine ... but then they too were soon struggling to breath because of the dryness of the Scone. The scones are very hard, very hard to break and very hard to eat. Although cute in location ... I'd find another spot if you want quality.

Yelp
I ordered an iced coffee, regular, w/ cinnamon syrup and an everything bagel w/ plain cream cheese on it. I got an iced coffee, asked about the cinnamon and was told I could add it myself at the cream and sugar station..Bagel came back plain, w/ cream cheese on the side. It's a full blown bakery and coffee house. Should have just gone to Andyman's.. ‍

Dan S.

Yelp
Excellent coffee, smooth and flavorful. The scones are outrageously delicious. In fact, all baked products are excellent, especially the spicy ginger molasses cookie. They have paninis and capreses sandwiches. Plenty of outside seating that is dog friendly

Yelp
This sweet Bistro in downtown Amesbury Mass was nice to sit and have a special drink w pastries. Many come here to get their special brews, sit and chat, or read. Nice location on the corner, to people watch. On same street are a nice boutique shop and an industrial complex museum to explore if looking to do more. I loved it, and will definitely go again if in amesbury.

Michelle W.

Yelp
Wonderful cafe with outside seating with umbrellas. Tasty fresh sandwiches and many drink options. Owners leave out water and treats for dogs. Changing local art displayed as well.

Amanda K.

Yelp
We stopped in on recommendation from our Airbnb hosts. The tea we ordered was flavorful, and the croissants were incredible. Perfectly flaky with the right blend of softness, crunch, and buttery goodness.

Ashley L.

Yelp
Great breakfast wraps and lattes! Staff is friendly and willing to accommodate requests.

Joy A.

Yelp
Market Square Bakehouse offers a wide variety of prepared paninis, ready to be toasted and taken to go or enjoyed slowly at one of their cozy wooden tables. The roast beef and blue cheese panini was well worth the price for the quality, flavor, and portion. I tried a 12oz decaf whole milk latte which was brewed perfectly, but when I came back the next morning to try a cold brew (dark), it didn't live up to my expectations of a rich, strong cold brew. It was a bit weak and more bitter than I expected, so I added a little simple syrup and cream although I usually take it black. I would love to see them introduce nitro cold brew next! The employees are friendly and efficient, and offer a genuine sense of interest with a smile. It's a lovely community space bustling in the morning with many different people. Good thing I was taking my coffee to go in the morning--there were no available tables/seats at 10am on a Thursday! I'll be back again when I'm in the area.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick warm up (when will spring arrive??) and loved this place. Turmeric Latte was the best! A little spicy, very tasty, and so pretty with the matching yellow saucer!! Husband got a mocha and he said it was really good also.

Kathryn G.

Yelp
I love this little coffeehouse. They have great flavor options and a good selection of baked goods and sandwiches. My latte was delicious, as was my biscuit breakfast sandwich. They also have a bit of outdoor seating

Western Queens S.

Yelp
On a roadtrip found this place on a search and it was well worth the detour from 95. My gf said it was "the best egg sandwich of my life": smoky bacon, moist eggs, and the perfect touch of sirarcha. My blueberry scone was also awesome. Will make this a regular stop when we drive north again.

Alison K.

Yelp
Just...... YUM!!!! Great place to meet a friend and hang - sipping and eating. You will be so happy you did!!! Everything is delicious!!

Emma G.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! It's what I look forward to on the weekends. But it's not just because of the coffee (which is delicious) or the pastries (best in the area) but because of the staff. Sarah Beth is one of the people who works here, she makes my morning that much better. Remembers my name and my order and just is always polite. When I first came here there was some younger individuals working the counter who were not personable. I was kind of turned off. But I kept coming back because the coffee is so good. Once u met Sarah and also another worker (man who is tall but forget his name) I realized that the staff is actually so great! Now I'm excited to come because it had the whole experience.

Trixie F.

Yelp
Great little cafe I stumbled upon with the freshest and best maple walnut scone I've ever had. Ever. Period.

Dan S.

Yelp
Love this place. Even sitting outside is perfect any time of year. Also love that you can get an early morning mimosa or a BM to start you day.

David P.

Yelp
I have been to this coffee shop sandwich shop twice! It is always superb. Their in house baked goods are amazing! I highly recommend this place for a relaxing environment and friendly attentive waitstaff. They were super nice to my service dog and made us feel very welcome. You just can't go wrong here.

Rhonda M.

Yelp
Friendly service.Delicious every time . I just wish you could customize a sandwich. Always clean and sitting outside is such a treat in Amesbury .

Karen 2.

Yelp
this coffee shop is super cute and the ambiance is pretty cozy inside. staff were quick, helpful, and friendly. almond croissant was a tiny bit dry but very delicious flavors!

Pam O.

Yelp
The best sandwich and cafe in the vicinity! Worth my trip from Newburyport whenever I can find the time! It's all excellent! And they serve wine and cocktails now.

Jennifer F.

Yelp
Excellent menu! Out of this world baked goods! Adorable neighborhood gem! It is a great place to meet a friend for coffee. I travel 30 miles to there to do so. Great outdoor space too. Staff is so friendly. So many cute shops in the area too. Absolutely recommend.

Kitty C.

Yelp
Drip dark roast coffee was stellar & full bodied. The m&m cookie was heavy. I like a nice textured cookie that is crusty on the outside and chewy inside but this cookie was just heavy with dough that's tasted glued together. BTW this is a peanut butter m&m cookie for those with good allergies. The rating is for the coffee & great service. Btw I got coffee & cookie for like ~$4! That's like one cup of big brand coffee so I was happy.

Alex C.

Yelp
Great service. They definitely remember their customers and are attentive. Love their bakery section too..lots of great selections

S C.

Yelp
Perfectly brewed chai latte and very delicious veggie breakfast wrap. I stayed to do some morning computer work. Excellent location and relaxed vibe.

Caio D.

Yelp
Nice coffeehouse in Amesbury. Excellent location, perfect for us who work from home to have a change of scenery while enjoying great coffee and baked goods.

Kristen K.

Yelp
Next time you're in Amesbury, MA, stop in at Market Square Bakehouse. Delicious Counter Culture coffee, beautiful baked goods and sandwiches, and incredibly kind and knowledgeable staff!!

Alex C.

Yelp
Market Square Bakehouse is an intriguing cafe style spot to come into and take a seat in its inviting atmosphere. I love their options of coffees, teas, and selections of food / pastries. Great place to get some work done on your laptop with AC outlets to plug and charge. As an added bonus, their business hours operate on varies holidays, blowing the competition away around their area of other cafes that don't seem to be open as early as this Bakehouse. I enjoy coming here

Elayne L.

Yelp
A cute place for a cup of coffee or tea. In good weather a lovely spot to sit to watch the world go by(small world though, it is Amesbury). They do offer some pre-made sandwiches, pastries and soup.

Ava M.

Yelp
Limited options with mayo on all pre-made sandwiches. Yuck. This place succeeds at being overly trendy, which means it ultimately fails to actually produce a quality product. Trendy millennials who work here are polite, but that's where this place begins and ends. Your (canned) soup is refrigerated and then heated up in the microwave . Yuck. $5.00 for generic wheat bread with American cheese... seriously? This is what we are being reduced to?!? Next time we will not let a six year old pick where we eat, obviously his limited pallet of chicken nuggets and pasta needs some refining before he can be trusted with such a responsibility.

L F.

Yelp
I want to support more local places in Amesbury, but Market Square Bakehouse makes it tough -- only vegan option seems to be the whoopie pies? Please give us vegans a few more items on the menu! Until then I guess I'll have to stick to the beverages...

Diana P.

Yelp
I love it. Tie my dog outside run in for croissant and latte. Also can use my phone for Apple Pay. I don't forget my phone and I don't forget my dog when I go for a coffee and croissant! Only problem is my coffee is been tasting a little weird maybe thinking it's just me or my choices.

Serenity M.

Yelp
We started going to the bakehouse 5 years ago today. We have enjoyed this place throughly from the yummy breakfast sandwiches to the fresh bake goods to the always perfect lattes. Today we had them cater my Mom's 80th Birthday party. They had great suggestions, were very accommodating and had very reasonable prices. Everything was delicious and everyone loved it!! Thank you!!

M S.

Yelp
I love this place so much! The staff i so friendly and attentive! Evrything is made fresh on site. This is such a gem in Amesbury , the quality is definitely there. I also love how CLEAN this place is. I love that you can see their "kitchen" and its always sparkling clean. My favorites are the Caprese Sandwich and their buttery croissant! To die for !

Elizabeth D.

Yelp
Went right as they opened, best coffee Ive had in awhile. And they had a really good breakfast burrito. The wait was not bad maybe 5 minutes. Would go again!

Jena J.

Yelp
A review from a coffe snob: this is no little wolf coffee. So don't come in expecting third wave espresso quality drinks. But! It's great for what it is: a local bake house and coffee shop. They serve kaha roasters most of the time which definitely leans on the dark side as far as roasts go. The cold brew is decent, and there are plenty of tasty baked goods available.

Maureen S.

Yelp
Fabulous place to grab a latte, or other fine beverages. They have amazing sandwiches, baked goods and the atmosphere allows you to sit inside or out! There is nothing you won't like!

Glamma 4.

Yelp
Great machiatto. We found this quaint little bakery/coffee shop on our travels to the east coast. We r west coast washington state (starbucks country) coffee fanatics so we know our coffee drinks and what we like and this place hit the nail on the head!

Kay V.

Yelp
We wanted to get coffee and something to eat before a long drive and stopped here. It was busy so we had to wait about 10 minutes, but it was worth it! I got an iced caramel affogato, Cuban panini, and a carrot cake muffin. My husband got a cold brew, roast beef panini, and a lemon poppyseed muffin. Everything was delicious!

Morgan R.

Yelp
WOW! They have so much to choose from! We were driving back home to IL from ME and this place was conveniently open at 7am. Service was great, everything looked super fresh - wish I wouldve grabbed one for their sandwiches for lunch on the road! Coffee was tasteful and the everything bfast wrap was perfect!

Bojana R.

Yelp
Very limited options considering how many people work in the kitchen. No fresh food, just pre wrapped sandwiches. Pastry is ok.

Samantha S.

Yelp
Love the feeling this place gave me. The Establishment itself was very uplifting and warming. Unfortunately the coffee I received very watered-down. My assumption and hope was that I received just a poor quality beverage they had no intention of actually giving me. The staff though was a very nice super sweet and did their best to give me what I requested. I will be driving through sometime in the future and we'll try this place again.

Dean L.

Yelp
Really great service and excellent food and drink. Plenty of parking locations. Try the chai.

Aaron S.

Yelp
I've always had a great experience at the Market Square Bakehouse! The staff is so kind and helpful, and the vibe of the location is perfect in downtown Amesbury. Prior to COVID, I loved sitting down inside, but I've been especially impressed at their ability to change to an outdoor only location. A sliding window allows you to stay outside while the staff does their thing inside, and there's a great sitting area outside. I generally stick to the lattes (iced and hot), but their hot coffee and cappuccinos are terrific too. I love their croissants and I today got a veggie wrap for the first time (delicious). I highly recommend if you are looking for the vibe of a coffee shop, even during these crazy times.

Joyce H.

Yelp
Great coffee. Great sandwiches. Great baked goods. Great space. I can only say good things about this local place I love. One pet peeve: If I just want a quick cup of coffee, although I think their coffee is the best locally, I go elsewhere because I don't like to wait that long for my morning coffee. My suggestion is when someone orders a plain coffee, try to do it right away. It's very fast to pour a simple cup of coffee. Don't put me in line behind the 4 lattes, 2 cappuccinos, and 3 heated sandwiches ahead of me. And if I order 2 sandwiches and a coffee, please serve me the coffee so I can drink it while I wait for my sandwiches. Just a thought!

Danelle G.

Yelp
Wonderful, friendly, super-accommodating staff who went the extra mile - thank you!!!
