This San Francisco Deli Chain Is About to Close Its Final Two Locations | Eater SF

"Closing for good on March 9 after 22 years on Market Street, Catch is known for serving petrale sole and is ending with owner Sanjay Gujral—who at 62 is ready to retire—shutting the doors; Gujral said the closure will be both sad and a relief, and he expects longtime patrons and LGBTQIA+ activists such as Cleve Jones to stop by before it closes." - Paolo Bicchieri

The portion of the food is fine, but compared with the one I ordered in Australia, it is slightly smaller. But the size is good enough to make you fill full. I have ordered several food, including Chowder, Rigatoni, Roll.... etc. We have 5 person to eat. The portion is okay except I feel the Chowder can be bigger. The Fish Fry Basket is good. But it got slightly too much french fries. But it is okay.

My boyfriend and I came here for the first time, and the place is nice and cozy! The ambiance felt super right for a seafood restaurant, and we came in the late evening, so there were a lot of seats. Service was quick and all the employees were very kind! Here is my review of the food: Haddock Fish Fry with fries: * Large portion * Lots of fries - they were so amazing, I love that it's shoestring cut because it makes it easier to eat lots of it and doesn't overpower the fish * The fish was crispy, and there wasn't too much batter, which is nice because it doesn't take away from the fish * The fish itself was not dry at all, despite being deep-fried Lobster roll with Caesar salad: * A good portion of lobster * You get 1 roll, and I wish it were bigger * Lobster filling was a little dry, but still tasted very good Will come back here again to try more of the menu

FOOD: • Fish & Chips: I love it so much. Fish is crazy crispy but so moist inside. The fish is fresh and doesn't taste fishy at all. Comes with huge amount of fries and coleslaw. • Crab cakes: taste good, unfortunately it's a bit salty. This dish also has a lot of salad. SERVICE: decent service VIBE: The place doesn't have many tables so it's full most of the time. It's hard to get table for bigger groups.

Gourmet delicious seafood in a casual atmosphere. We had the Tuna sandwich and lobster roll and found it to be worth every penny. Very fresh and the fries were a nice added touch. Will not disappoint.

Great portion sizes. If you like Busters Sea Cove at St Lawrence market then you’ll love this. Owned by the same people. They have 4 tables on the patio and plenty of seating inside. This is a more relaxed restaurant and they don’t provide table service. You pay at the counter and if you need anything extra (takeout box) you have to go inside and ask. I loved the vibe. I asked for tap water and they never brought it. While I was eating I was observing the vibe and realized maybe they don’t provide tap water? All things aside food was great, portion size was great and most importantly price was great. The bill for 2 people was $44. Ordered the halibut fish and chips and the calamari with cries. I would go back. 👍🏼

For a place to be right next to a market and still serve not so fresh food is something. We got the tacos and the fish was old and very dry and the taco bread was very old. Overall I wouldn’t go back specially since I know the market has very similar food for much better but we just wanted to give this place a try.

Market Street Catch is a nice seafood restaurant located by the St. Lawrence market. The food was delicious and seafood tasted fresh. For the price the dishes are a good portion size and generous amounts of seafood. Highlights were the grilled calamari, crab cakes and clam chowder.

3.9 / 5 I’ve been here 10x and finally doing the review. Good- service and people are amazing. Location is awesome in the alley street of St. Lawrence market. Especially in Summer. Food is great, just portions are never consistent. Example. Got the mixed grill (shrimp, calamari, octopus and swordfish). Swordfish is always great. I get it on its own sometimes. Today, I got 1 small shrimp and 2lbs of calamari. I got the pico de gallo for $2.75 and we got a 16oz soup container. Huge. So I’m disappointed the consistencies are always suspect. See the pics. I recommend it, but some items like the salmon sandwich is huge, and now I’m stuck with this much calamari.
