The Best Restaurants in West Chester | Eater Philly

"From the street, you wouldn’t peg this unassuming corner spot to produce some of the best breakfast items you’ve ever tasted. But take one step inside their pop-art studded dining room and you’ll find what you were missing. Dig into extravagant daily specials like brisket-stuffed omelets or sample menu favorites like chicken and waffles topped with spicy andouille sausage gravy." - Sam Herring

Google
Great little breakfast/ lunch place! Quick, friendly service. Kept the coffee refilled, small detail but important. Specialty seems to be eggs Benedict, many different types. I tried the Donny. Eggs Benedict with creamed chipped beef on top. Very interesting....liked it!! Will go back to try other styles on the Benny!

Google
Great spot. Has a diner feel and look about it. The service was fast and very nice. He had great recommendations. I had the Willow breakfast burrito and I loved it. They definitely did not cut corners on the ingredients. Overall a nice experience.

Google
Market Street Grill offers the best Florentine eggs, and in general delicious food. The place is always crowded. The staff is cheerful, helpful, and fast. The prices are very affordable. Very positive experience all together.

Stopped here for lunch on a Saturday. Both my wife and I had wraps with chicken in them. The flavors were good but the chicken was National Lampoon turkey level dry. Server brought us more sauce to try to make up for it but I just couldn't eat more than half and the wife ate only a quarter of hers. The sweet potato fries were good. IF we ever try this place again we'll probably just opt for breakfast and hope it is better. It's also very loud and the tables are close together and everyone is trying to talk over others so the atmosphere isn't the best.

I ended up in West Chester. I have heard very good things about Market Street Grill. It has a 4.7 rating on google maps. Fun spot. If I wasn’t going to video my food I would have gladly dined in. The wonderful young man at the host desk recommended their signature breakfast burrito and I am glad he did. I liked it. $11 but it is big and tasty.

Atmosphere was great. Christian and his crew were awesome to interact with. The price of food vs the portions was on point. Left the restaurant feeling full in my tummy and full on the vibes 😎

Google
Best breakfast in the area and amazing service. Since it’s so good, It's a long wait sometimes. I got a Bruno, a breakfast burrito with eggs, hashbrowns, cheddar, and andouille sausage gravy. It was really good! A nice bit of sausage and a touch of spice in the gravy. Very filling. There are a ton of specials that rotate in and out. They get super creative with their food. At the same time, they have the classics on the menu too so if you’re not a risk taker, you’ll be equally satisfied.

Google
What a spectacular place! Eggs Benedict with short rib is a masterpiece 🤤 the staff is super nice and sweet. Christian is a sweetheart. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
First off, this is just a breakfast and lunch place. We do like this restaurant, but the food can be hit or miss. It's a matter of trying it a few times and finding those dishes that you will want to order again. The restaurant is small inside and depending on the weather, has a small amount of outdoor seating. The service has always been good, but if ambiance matters to you then this won't be your go to place. I loved my French toast, but my husband thought the avocado toast was just ok.

Yelp
Will be back! Huge portions, old school diner style food, staff were so genuinely friendly. Was packed! For a good reason. We got lox and bagel platter, chocolate pancakes and a baconeggandcheese sandwich with home fries. Every was great

Yelp
If your in the mood for a real man's breakfast in a throw back, old town grill, then Market Street is the place for you! It's loud, it's fun & most importantly it's delicious! The servers are helpful & they get you in & out! Love this place!

Yelp
Despite being packed with a line out the door upon our early Sunday-afternoon arrival, we were seated within five minutes and the service throughout brunch was very quick. The diner's atmosphere was lively, and comfortable. My friend and I got cappuccinos, which were very creamy but perhaps overly sweet and bordering on hot cocoa. I ordered eggs over medium with bacon and sourdough toast, and these all came out perfectly--importantly, the bacon was not too fatty. My friend ordered a pulled-pork sandwich which he enjoyed very much. The food was uncomplicated, quite tasty, and filling.

Yelp
This place is always packed so make sure you get there early enough to grab a table or put your name in to wait. The servers are all very friendly and attentive. It's clearly a team effort as they help each other with tables when super busy. Really fun diner vibes with tons of artwork all over to look at. The food was delicious. It's a really cool southern comfort food menu. I wasn't feeling my best so I went safe with eggs over easy and they were perfectly cooked. The bacon was thick and crispy. I did taste my friends Bullotta and it did not disappoint. It was a great combo of salty and sweet. Super savory flavor and very filling. I also tried her side of sausage gravy and that was delicious. Slight spice kick with the andouille but not overpowering. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Hands down one of the best restaurants for breakfast in the area. The food is so good and comforting. The place has a unique style and our server was so friendly and kind.
google avatar

Yelp
Down home style breakfast. My burrito was a bit bland, but I'm used to TexMex. Service very good.

Yelp
Very good cafe. Quite a large selection of dishes. We chose "Market street grill" and "Western" omelettes, waffle with fruits and whipped cream. Everything was very tasty and made from fresh products. The service was also very good. The cafe has a very pleasant atmosphere. I recommend it for breakfast and lunch.

Yelp
It's increasingly rare to find a throwback gem like West Street Grill, especially without all the fancy advertising you see elsewhere. THIS is the place to be, in all the right, subtle ways: fresh, healthy food, creative dishes, excellent service, and cozy ambiance. Before taking my partner here for her birthday dinner, we noticed locals and passerby's exchanging pleasantries, and checking in with staff members as if they were all long-time friends. Odd (and so refreshing), I thought, to see such genuine friendliness and camaraderie between a local restaurant and the community it serves-- that feeling set the tone for our experience. We arrived early for our reservation-- yet they seated us a few minutes before they even opened, and immediately filled our glasses with delicious wine, as we relaxed from a lovely hike earlier in the day. We were immediately delighted by a fresh tomato basil appetizer, and parmesan flatbread. My partner is a self-described bread-snob, and this flatbread ranks in the pantheons of all-time delicious breads! We could hardly contain our excitement when the smoked salmon was presented on a charcuterie board alongside goldened crustini bread, capers, creme fraiche, and two perfectly soft-boiled eggs. Next up, Pasta Sergio. We were all over Italy a few months back, and this vegan dish, paired with the white wine, transported us back in time. Flavorful, healthy, and creative-- that's how I'd describe the pastas we had in Italy, and how I'd describe this dish as well. Many pasta dishes in America leave you feeling bloated-- not this one. Every bite packed a dynamic, healthy punch. We followed that up with the exceptional Organic Scottish Grilled Salmon. We cook salmon more than any meal in our household, and have never come close to this level of flavor. The salmon skin was grilled perfectly, and the broth lit up our taste buds. We ended our night with three desserts-- chocolate mousse, and chocolate/passion fruit sorbets. You won't find a more delicious, healthier desert anywhere else. Like the pasta, this desert was refreshing and tasty, and did not leave us feeling bloated in the slightest. While the food was outstanding, it pales in comparison to the wholesome experience we had, along with the perfect service. The intangibles of West Street Grill are what sets it apart. We were taken care of all night, thoroughly enjoyed interactive with the staff, and adored the ambiance. West Street Grill was the perfect setting for a night we won't forget anytime soon, and I can't wait for our next meal. Bravo!

Yelp
The food is delicious. I only wish they took reservations because it gets so busy on the weekends and the wait can be long. Plus, with how busy it can get, the service seems a little rushed and chaotic at times. But other than that, the decor is fun and the options are wonderful!

Justin F.

Yelp
Good food. Friendly staff and was reasonably priced. I'd definitely return. The interior was like a diner with lots of interesting Stango contemporary art paintings on the walls.

B J.

Yelp
Greasy spoon breakfast was outstanding! Great service and atmosphere. $50 for 3 breakfasts - good deal! Gravy was spectacular on the Christians & Waffle. Would return in a heartbeat. Go Dawgs!

Yelp
I don't post reviews often but the sausage gravy was so darn good I needed to say something. Incredibly unique and flavorful, as well as satisfying portion for my fat self. Absolutely must try

Yelp
This place is adorably quaint. It has the ambiance of a diner. Every server we had was very nice. We came with our baby in a carseat, and they seated us in a booth seat near the window away from all other customers. I was very grateful since I was nervous she might start crying. But she didn't and the server even spoke to her. The food was all delicious. We ordered the frenhtoast with cinnamon bread and carmalized bluberries. We didn't know we could get them caramalized! Hubby got the french toast with peanut butter and banana (I forget what it is on the menu...bullatto?), and he added caramelized strawberries to his. Both were great but we wanted more but not alot, so we got a side of flank steak and an egg an hollandaise sauce. I was so glad you could get each of these a la carte. The flank steak is so bangin (this is why we came here, actually). A great place to do brunch during the week.

Yelp
Five stars, solid. It is a bit crammed inside but I can see why! Stopped in this morning with my husband to check it out, as it's known to be the best breakfast in West Chester. It's definitely true! Despite being packed, we really didn't wait long. My husband got the pinky eggs benedict - the brisket was sooo tender and flavorful. Literally just the perfect level of sweetness and moisture mixed in with the hollandaise. I ordered the avocado toast BUT instead of poached eggs I got smoked salmon on sourdough. So fresh and satisfying paired with the balsamic and fresh tomatoes. A 10/10! If you want a comfort breakfast and to leave feeling full, this is your spot.

Yelp
Tasty Reuben and fries. Good French toast. Delicious coffee. Service is quick and friendly. Parking is metered outside and takes app /card

Yelp
Went for breakfast with the family on a busy Sunday. Only took about 15 minutes to get a table. Usually a good sign when there's enough people that warrants a wait. Our server was super friendly and brought out or drinks quickly. The food was unfortunately really disappointing. I got the pancake special which sounded great. "Sweet potato, corn fritter and apples". What I got was a pancake with chunks of sweet potato, chunks of apple and some corn kernels thrown in. It was not good. I ate half and couldn't force myself to eat any more. The egg sandwich my kid got was fine but everything costs extra. Want anything more than the bagel and one egg? That's extra. Want cheese? Extra. My wife got French toasts with bananas and bacon. It was bland and overly covered in sauce. Honestly I have no idea how we managed to spend over $60 for breakfast and came away completely disappointed. Don't think we'll give this spot another try. There are too many good spots right around it.
google avatar

Julie M.

Yelp
This place is clearly popular (it was packed and buzzing the morning we went) so this is a minority viewpoint ... but I don't entirely get it ... I had a signature item which was a breakfast burrito ... which while not bad, was bland and tasteless (the scrambled eggs were unseasoned as was the pico de gallo), it came with an unappetizing side of shredded hash browns, which were equally unseasoned. My table mates had a banana blueberry pancake which was tasty but a little tough and overcooked. An omelette with prosciutto and provolone was a better choice, but still accompanied by those uninspired hash browns. The coffee is reasonably good and the service was friendly and efficient. The space is a little uninspired -- but they keep it clean. There is definitely a fun and busy energy at this joint, but for truly delicious breakfast treats I would go elsewhere.

Yelp
I'm a huge brunch lover and always up for trying somewhere new. I've known about this restaurant for a long time but never ended up going. Today we decided to stop in for brunch. We were seated right away and there were plenty of seating options. The service was really great as we were served waters right away. Orders at our table included the gyro, Camacho's nachos, the mainline with sweet potato fries subbed, cheesesteak, the brown sugar cinnamon swirl French toast stuffed with blackberries and cream cheese and a couple coffees. Now onto the food reviews. The French toast was good but I was surprised that being stuffed with cream cheese literally meant slabs of cream cheese as opposed to some sort of cream cheese spread. Otherwise the bread was flavorful. I was really disappointed with the mainline. Instead of mashing and spreading the avocado, it was in chunks on top of the corn bread. Also the poached eggs weren't runny either and there was way too much hollandaise sauce. The gyro was enjoyable but the sweet potato fries weren't very good and seemed burnt. The cheesesteak was okay but a little dry. With all the raving reviews about this place, I was really disappointed with the food. The service was excellent though. With all the brunch options in the area, I can't say I'd go out of my way to come back here.

Yelp
We dropped in here unexpectedly for breakfast and was disappointed considering the 4.5 star rating. Decor here is tired. First impressions were not positive. Smelly restroom. Broken soda fountain. Waitress and hostess dressed and coiffed like they just rolled out of bed. Hostess was imposed upon to give us a booth and rather than one without neighbors we got one next to the chatty table. Both the hostess and waitress on their phone. The food was equally not impressive. Over easy eggs cooked in oil. Poached eggs overdone. Sausage not drained of oil. Home fries without seasoning. Was it ok? borderline. Was it good? No. No refills were offered on the coffee. We had to ask even though the waitress passed by with the pot for refills for the chatty table and another couple that came in. Needless to say, no lingering here. Paid and left, never to return.

Yelp
Great people, a wonderful atmosphere, friendly folks and excellent food. A great discovery while traveling in PA. This is a very traditional diner in many ways but the level of friendliness and service along with the quality of food and general atmosphere really make it a great spot. I had eggs, hash browns, toast and pork roll...the first time for this. Really enjoyed the pork roll...it was almost like a piece of ham but had a slightly salty and sour taste...it was excellent. If you find yourself in the area, I'd stop in.

Lyss C.

Yelp
The service is always quick and the food there is great. I love the decorations and the fact that you can get breakfast or lunch options. I usually order the Honey Mustard Wrap and instead of fries I get their pasta salad. It's been good both times I've gotten it. Highly recommend
google avatar

Yelp
Another really good breakfast at Market Street Grill. They continue to have the right touch. Arrived on a Sunday morning, promptly seated and served. Menu augmented with specials, and I tried one of their unique eggs Benedict variations. Very tasty. Recommended.

Kevin L.

Yelp
Great place for breakfast/Sunday brunch with delicious food and prompt, friendly service. Comfortable booths and fun decor. Best brunch spot, for sure!
google avatar

Mal D.

Yelp
Go here! Fast! Run don't walk! The food portions are out of this world. The prices are so affordable you want to eat more just because. The service was very small town local feel. Needless to say, this will be our new breakfast hot spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Market Street Grill is a West Chester favorite and let me start by saying I am not a diner person. This is a diner. The food is greasy and made with low-quality ingredients. It doesn't taste horrible; it tastes like cheap diner food because it is. My issue with this establishment is the way the staff (and customers) treat this place like it is immune to the pandemic. I have been here twice recently because it is my best friend's (who is on a budget) favorite but both times I felt extremely uncomfortable. Many staff members are wearing masks incorrectly or not at all and people feel comfortable walking around with no masks on. Plus, even before the pandemic, I didn't really trust the extremely young and unsupervised staff handling food.
google avatar

Yelp
Visiting from California. Dropped in for breakfast and decided to order the "C-Mac" which is two poached eggs and scrapple on biscuits topped with spicy andouille gravy because, why not? I can only describe it as an out of body experience. One of the best breakfast dishes I've ever had.
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
Best of the best in town! Staff is warm and welcoming - always happy. I want to marry Darla's Andouille Sausage gravy! This place better be on your bucket list!

Andy M.

Yelp
Great food and service! Darla's breakfast specials are the absolute best! From the normal menu the Pinky Benny, Willow Breakfast Burrito, Puebla Omelette and Western Omelette are my regular selections. If you're still not sure what to go with, any of the Eggs Benedict choices will be a solid winner.
google avatar

Caroline C.

Yelp
I can't stop thinking about the Bullata (I think I spelled it right?)- it was a French toast platter with peanut butter, honey, bacon, and banana and it's what will lure me back. Service was quick and the food was h o t. Omelet was cheesy but not too cheesy, and it held the perfect amount of veggies and sausage... I recommend getting the 2 egg portion size unless you are absolutely starved.

Ree G.

Yelp
Italian pulled pork gets an AMAZING and that is from an 11 year old. You can't go wrong here
google avatar

Zachary B.

Yelp
I was here one time 5 years ago and decided to go back because I couldn't stop thinking about the fried pickle omelette. So good!! 10/10 recommend and my girlfriend loves it and she's tough to please sometimes!
google avatar

Peter D.

Yelp
I have two rules: If there is ever scrapple on the menu, I order it. If there is ever andouille gravy on the menu, I order it. These are weird rules to have, because until I ended up at the Market Street Grill: I didn't know what scrapple was.* I'd never seen andouille gravy on the menu. But a man has to have a code. And mine forced me to order The Telly, which is three eggs, hash browns, peppers, onions, and cheddar all scrambled and topped with andouille gravy and scrapple. This literal mountain of deliciousness only costs $10, because Market Street Grill is the best. I couldn't even finish it, and I don't know if I've ever said that about a breakfast plate. Everything else about Market Street Grill is awesome as well. The service is friendly and helpful, the mugs have bacon sayings, the place is clean, bright, and comfortable, and they are FAST. Don't worry about the wait, they turn tables over more efficiently than anyone I've seen. Also to the little kid I walked in on in the bathroom, I'm sorry. I didn't see anything. You should start locking the door though. _____________ *I thought I did, but I was wrong. I thought scrapple was like pork scraps...like some sort of hot dog shavings. Scrapple actually a loaf made of pork scraps mixed with cornmeal and wheat flour, and godknowswhatelse. Sounds quite unappetizing, but tastes delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place, very popular! The portions are generous, and the menu items are all so tasty. My favorite is a mushroom omelette with brisket added. Go for brunch!
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
Hey go ahead and be a hater. I know one of the owners. F**k haters. Ok, I fulfill the 17 characters that I need to finish. Darla makes great breakfast, period.

Yelp
Ambience was great and absolutely loved the food . Ordered Thai Potstickers omelette, French Toast. Everything tasted great with good portion size . Definitely recommend their French toast .

Yelp
This is one of the best Sunday brunch locations that my family have been raving about to return. We had a wonderful experience here and all the foods we ordered were all deliciously prepared! The staffs here are very knowledgeable, welcoming and friendly! This is our go to spot when we are in town!

Christine L N.

Yelp
Excellent service very pleasant service delicious food absolutely fabulous We can't wait to go back next week! The place is so upbeat and full charm
google avatar

Courtney S.

Yelp
One of the best local spots for brunch in West Chester! But be forewarned: the wait is long and it's a little chaotic inside and hot! All in all I'd recommend this place but give yourself extra time for the wait. There's always a wait and it's not an ideal waiting situation! They do not take reservations and it is first come first served, so if you're starving and need to eat right now or else the hangry version of yourself will appear within seconds!! I'd opt for a different spot in West Chester. But if you can wait, wait! Because it's worth it. I am knocking off a star due to the there not being much room to wait. If you don't want to feel cramped and have others in your comfort circle, I'd suggest waiting outside. However, you might miss your name called. At least one person from your party will need to wait inside to listen for your table. I'm also knocking off a star for the mass chaos and confusion that seems to go on here. I'm all for supporting the college students with jobs but they need a little more training. The host/hostess isn't great at making sure they have taken everyone's name when they walk in or checking of the person is there for pick up and giving them their order. This probably contributes to the long wait times. I waited a good bit of time before they addressed me and took my name for a table. And I had to ask those around me if they have been helped yet so I didn't cut them in line. With all that said and done once my party and I was finally seated the food was great!! No complaints there. It did take a few odd minutes for someone to come over and give us a menu and take our drink orders. Nevertheless, the food did come out quick and was hot and ready! And that's what we're all hear for anyway right? Parking: The location is convenient, right on the corner next to the S High St parking garage. There is also street parking out front of the restaurant all along Market St. My suggestion for management: I think part of these wait time problems could be resolved with taking less take out orders from DoorDash, Uber Eats, etc. The drivers are running in and out and contributing to the mass confusion going on inside. These orders are also creating longer wait times for those coming into the restaurant to eat. If there was a way to limit the amount of orders that'd be great for those wanting to dine in. Train up your staff so they know how to shuffle customers around efficiently and quickly take their names for a table. A texting system would be super useful. Other restaurants will take the name and number of a party and text them when their table is ready. This way people could wait outside and not be in the way of those coming in to pick up orders or be seated.

Yelp
Great place to get some breakfast. Super cool staff, you can go inside and sit down and eat and it feels like regular times again! food is very good, coffee is just about average.
google avatar

Adrienne M.

Yelp
Market Street Grille is a great brunch place in the heart of West Chester. Took our freshman for a family brunch. Even though it was Sunday at noon, did not have to wait more than 20 minutes. Cute inside, tables are tight together and decor is modern retro. Food is incredible and plentiful! Husband and son had 2 benedicts- the Lew and the Donny. Both were delicious. Daughter had the 3 egg Weber, which was spicy and fresh. I had the Bullotta- just wow. Sweet and salty satisfaction. Will be back again!
google avatar

Nick J.

Yelp
Amazing place and huge value as all prices are very reasonable but still get large portions. Service was great and everything tasted awesome

Yelp
Exceptional breakfast. Eggs Benedict on cornbread with avocado. Delicious Hollandaise. Great service. Friendly people. Just sit at the bar and skip the wait. Oh and for dessert. Get you some French toast with roasted bananas, honey, and peanut butter. Then just go home and watch football. :) Great experience. Cute place.

Yelp
Outstanding service by Liz and excellent food. Everything is great here. We've eaten here several times and always had a good meal. Try it, you'll like it!

Yelp
This is my go to place for breakfast meetings. Great food, great service and a great family owned business.

Noah R.

Yelp
Just visited this fine establishment with a few colleagues and was left extremely disappointed... with the laundromat around the corner. Upon ingesting the exquisite cuisine provided by MSG (Market Street Grill), the five of us had almost instantaneously "creamed" our jeans. I wish this was just a figure of speech. The only person in luck was not a person at all, but our lovely corgi "Pipey Dog", who had just a nibble of hollandaise and creamed herself on the pavement outside. This incident was immediately spotted by a busser, who swooped into the area and sanitized it with haste. Excellent work. The food and service was nothing but exceptional, last time I was this aroused and this full was Cabo in '95 (all you can eat buffet with the Mrs. accompanied by an 8 ball of top notch Columbian "bam bam"). Great stuff.
google avatar

Kelly C.

Yelp
I got a very nice omelette here, shredded potatoes were great. Inside and small and expect a wait on the weekends!

Jenna M.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast cafe with almost any breakfast/lunch food available. Food is always delicious and quick. They're also very flexible and can customize any dish however you'd like.
