The 18 Best Restaurants in Budapest, Hungary | Eater

"Historically, Hungary has been a wine-drinking nation, and today there are 22 wine regions in the country, most famously Tokaj in the northeast. At Marlou, a sleek wine bar hidden on a side street behind the Hungarian State Opera House, you can try Tokaj’s sweets and dries, along with other local and French wines. French proprietor Jean-Julien Ricard works with small, conscientious producers, and many natural and biodynamic labels appear on the menu." - Tas Tobias

tasty wines, a bit less extrovert waiter/owner, okay dishes missing some extra. otherwise a lovely place with lovely atmosphere. very well curated furniture, cutlery and everything. the playlist was really good. recommend visiting it, if you’re up for natural wines

We have been there for wine tasting. They had most of the wines and a really good tasting. The prices is reasonable. The bar man speak English very well. Such a cosy place.

Natural wines for fair prices. The owner is a little hard to crack, but helps you if you have some questions. The wines we tried ranged from good to spectacular – the bábel red was incredible. Atmosphere is nice, even though it was a little cold.

I’d never been to Budapest before and came ready to explore the whole city… but I ended up going to Marlou three nights in a row. No regrets. 3 reasons I kept coming back. #1, JJ - the owner is flat out awesome. Super friendly, passionate about what he’s pouring, & actually takes the time to explain the wines. Felt more like hanging out with a storyteller than just being poured a drink. #2 the food is way better than you’d expect. I had the schnitzel with lemon, so simple, but honestly one of the best things I ate on the trip bc the ingredients were fresh. #3 the overall vibe is casual, intimate and fun. You can buy wine to go or drink it at the bar. Plus he has an awesome rotating selection of wines from small producers. #4 AI or chat gpt didn’t write this…it’s real just from a guy that drinks too much wine and knows good food and service when he sees it. If you’re in Budapest, put this place on your list. It’s a gem.

I had a really sweet chat about wines during my purchase. I love how cosy this place is and waiter so easily assisted me. Ended buying two bottles and enjoyed them back home. Worth a visit...next time with some wine tasting on spot 😊🍷

Fantastic Hungarian wine tasting experience. The owner is very knowledgeable, will educate you, and won't lead you astray. The atmosphere is excellent and I would recommend this spot for any level of wine taster!

My favourite wine bar in Budapest that offers a wide (WIDE!) selection of the best natural wines from the Central European region, but also France. The spot is owned by a French wine connoiseur and lover, so you could definitely tell that there’s been quite a know-how invested. It’s a place to come back (which is exactly what I did) - you end up wanting to try more, and there’s nothing better than knowledgeable staff who can advise keeping your preferences in mind. The selection of snacks is fantastic. It’s on the pricier side, but everything is top-notch and delicious. The only problem here is that you might not know when to stop :)
