Marriott Grand Chateau: Guileless
Recently, we have experienced five very different Marriott properties. In December we selected our annual owner's week at Marriott Ocean Pointe in Palm Beach; in January, we attended an international conference in Orlando and exchanged into the Marriott Grande Vista Resort in Orlando; in February and March, we attended a national conference in San Diego, and were able to exchange into Marriott Newport Coast Villas in Newport Beach, CA; in March, we used an owner's week at Marriott's SurfWatch Resort in Hilton Head Island for spring break; and, in April a national technology conference permitted us to visit Marriott Grand Chateau near the Las Vegas Strip. We have chosen fifteen different timeshare properties for the annual Las Vegas technology conference during the past fifteen years, and we have never experienced disappointment. We have exchanged on the Strip and off the Strip and have had memorable experiences. For several years we have observed the construction of the Marriott Grand Chateau. This property is located at 75 East Harmon Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89109, (702) 862-5600. Marriott Grand Chateau is east of I-15 and is east of the Strip. Marriott Grand Chateau is located directly east of CityCenter (hotel, shopping, dining, and entertainment complex.) The MGM Grand Hotel and Casino is directly south, and Paris Las Vegas is directly north of Marriott Grand Chateau. Marriott Grand Chateau is one very long block east of the Strip; the Las Vegas Blvd. area road grid is a series of parallel and perpendicular roads, and novice and regular visitor will soon develop a linear thinking pattern to navigation. Very often the parallel roadways (including I-15, Koval Lane, and Paradise Road) will provide easier access to various attractions on the Strip.
Marriott Grand Chateau is a premier Marriott timeshare resort. There seems little rationale in comparing Marriott Grand Chateau with Marriott Ocean Pointe in Palm Beach, Marriott Grande Vista Resort in Orlando, Marriott Newport Coast Villas in Newport Beach, or Marriott's SurfWatch in Hilton Head Island. All five of these Marriott timeshares offer superior accommodations on two different oceans and in Las Vegas. The geography of the Great Basin is vastly different from the geography of Pacific southern California, or central Florida, or the Low Country near Savannah, or the Atlantic Palm Beaches. Our two bedroom and bathroom condo is listed as 1252 square feet; this is not spacious, but very congenial for my wife and me. The villa has two king beds and two sofa beds. Because the Las Vegas Blvd. area is highly developed with timeshares, hotels, motels, and the recent CityCenter, Marriott offers elegant, guileless refinement. A tiled floor foyer extends to the kitchen and bathroom area. A full kitchen (smaller than some other Marriotts) is very well equipped with appliances, cook wear, and service wear. We tend to prefer morning coffee and an American breakfast taken in our villa, with options to prepare lunch or dinner as we consider various opportunities. Granite counter tops in the kitchen and bathrooms compliment the walnut cabinets. The villas feature the standard industrial grade carpet; the furniture and accessories tend to resemble French provincial and are comfortable. The combination living room and dining room features a large, wall-mounted HDTV and DVD player with a broad selection of TV cable channels. Cell-phone reception is fine. The all-important Wi-Fi connectivity is complimentary, truly high speed, and flawless. Marriott's designer (decorator) service is an expression of sophisticated elegance. Several framed mirrors and pleasant framed prints add some stylishness to the villas. The HVAC system is totally functional, and the mandatory washer and dryer enhance the vacation experience.
Depending upon floor level and tower, there are varying views. We prefer exterior balconies, however, the very large bedroom and living room windows invite the outdoors into the villas. We had a partial view of the Las Vegas Blvd. and a full view of the Springs Mountain range. Given nearly 300 days of annual sun, the Springs Mountain range may be vibrant near dawn and early evening. We find the Springs Mountain range to be a pleasant alternative to Las Vegas Blvd. It seems that several guests are not timeshare experienced and are surprised at the many amenities that a timeshare provides. Do expect the obligatory phone call from the "friendly" sales representative. Expect show tickets for your two-three-hour sales presentation. We always "just say no to timeshare presentations!" However, Vegas shows are world-class entertainment, and are integral to our holiday. Because of hotel "guests," the Marriott Grand Chateau has a large formal lobby that resembles a hotel lobby. There is a full bell staff. Expect several receptionists to keep the stream of check-ins advancing. The receptionists are highly trained, skilled, proficient.
