After the debacle at Main Street Deli, driving further west on Route 55 brings you to the Marshall Diner. I'm thinking to myself - Diner coffee! And maybe some breakfast as I have not eaten anything today - it's about 11:00 am - so this is a bit of a late breakfast.
I go and sit down - the waitress brings me a menu - the front cover advertises a couple of specials - creamed chipped beef or sausage gravy and biscuits. I've not had Sausage Gravy and Biscuits in a terrible long time - so I order that, along with two eggs over easy, and a side of bacon.
Now in my humble opinion - there are certain things diners need to and should do well to be considered a diner - and traditional, greasy American breakfast foods rate high on the capabilities list. You need to be good at things like Corned Beef Hash, Hash Browns, Sausage Gravy, pancakes, and such.
This Sausage gravy could have been anything. It looked like Sausage gravy, it had the right consistency - but it had almost no flavor. It was like a flour paste/gravy. I loaded it up with Black pepper, salt, and hot sauce in order to give it some flavor. A big fat zero stars on the Sausage gravy. I sure hope it's not like this all the time. I sure won't stop in and order it again unless someone else comes along and tells me it has changed.
The fried eggs were decent, as was the bacon, and two cups of coffee, which elevates it up to two stars.
