Great place! Everything was really clean and quiet. The service was stupendous!!! Our server, Tiffany, was friendly to me and my kids. The food was okay but had way too much gravy. Overall, next time someone is nearby, I recommend grabbing a quick homemade Bread Pudding and coffee in Marshall Diner before leaving the area!

Google
Nice little spot to stop in for breakfast, lunch or dinner. There are a wide variety of items to choose from, and you can get breakfast all day if you would like. The restaurant seemed clean, the service/staff were excellent and attentive, and the atmosphere is what you would expect in a quaint diner. Not far off the beaten path either, so it's convenient for hopping off I-66 to grab a bite. I recommend this restaurant if you're looking for some good "home style" cooking. We grabbed a couple of omelets for lunch. They have Coke products, so it was nice to be able to get a Coke Zero as well.

**Marshall Diner Review** 8453 W Main St, Marshall, VA 20115 Date: May 24, 2025 Time: 8:45 AM This review reflects a personal experience as a consumer and chef. **Overall Impression:** We started the day with a stop in Marshall, a small and pretty town on the route to West Virginia for the holiday weekend. Despite being 8:45 AM, the diner was packed, which turned out to be a great sign. We received a very pleasant welcome and excellent service. **Highlights:** * Welcome & Management: 10/10 * Waiter: 10/10 (Excellent guest service) * Coffee & orange juice: 10/10 (Good quality) * Breakfast platter: 10/10 (Eggs as ordered, good sausage and bread) * BYO Breakfast: 10/10 (2 eggs cooked to order, very good hashbrowns, well-cooked bacon) * Pancakes: 7/10 (a little greasy) **Atmosphere & Service:** The atmosphere was calm, even though the diner was full. There was no pressure to rush our meal, which is always appreciated. **Final Thoughts:** The diner is conveniently located near the highway. If you're traveling in the area, it's definitely worth a stop.

The Marshall Diner is a typical greasy spoon diner. Nestled in a strip mall on the outskirts of Marshall, the curb appeal was a little lacking. There is a large step entering the diner that could be difficult for some. When we entered we were greeted by the staff and a slightly off-putting smell. We saw several patrons enjoying a meal, so we decided to stay. The staff walked us to a table and took our drink order. My water had a odd taste to it, ended up sharing my friends tea. The water probably is city water straight from the tap. I recommend they get a filter. The selection of food was vast, but our waiter wasn't able to answer simple questions regarding what came with a dish. I ended up getting the Marshall burger without the mushrooms and substituted onion rings for the frys. My friend got the grilled ham and cheese. The food was okay and it was reasonably priced. Not one of my favorites for the area but not bad. #OwlsTweet #BirdLife #worldtraveler #traveler #MeetMrOwl

Food was ok, the service was good. Nothing special, but still a solid place to make a stop if you're on the road.

Google
My hometown eating spot! Great place to eat with family and friends! The food is great the atmosphere makes you feel like home. Prices are responsible! The employees are very friendly! Just a nice down home feeling!

Google
This authentic small-town diner represents the Best of Middle America. Patriotic Immigrant-owned, always warm and welcoming, great food and community. They consistently go out of their way to engage with their town (Marshall VA--The Frontline of the Heartland!). Waitress Geneise always goes above and beyond. God Bless them all, at Marshall Diner!

Mary D.

Google
Nice diner with great food. Turkey and catfish dinners were super. Salad and dessert too. Another successful stop today - fish sandwich fries were the special today! Hot and quick! Will stop again.

Yelp
Went in while on a road trip early on a Thursday morning. We had to wait a few minutes for the diner to open, no big deal. The server was fantastic, seating us as soon as the door was open, and she kept our coffee hot and fresh. The food was perfect down home diner fare. I had bacon and eggs, my son had the sausage gravy. All was great!! The decor looks like what you would expect in a small town diner, just the basics. The menu was more than fair, especially considering the portion sizes. Plenty of parking out front, too.

Yelp
We stopped at a local diner. Fast service and decent food. I had a Denver omelette with nice chunks of ham and plenty of onions and peppers. The grits were a little lumpy and too much water added. The biscuit half's were grilled. Overall decent experience.

Yelp
This is a nice southern diner if you don't mind slow inattentive waitstaff, mediocre at best food, tired, interior and lite food poisoning.

Rajet L.

Yelp
Friendly service! Clean environment! Katie and Shayna are attentive and friendly! The food was great especially the French toast! Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Charles L.

Yelp
Ok, we went her just recently and I have to say it was absolutely awful. The french toast was the worst I have had on a long time, no flavor, very bland, barely grilled. I don't know what was up with the bacon but it is a solid No. We absolutely will not be back. The waitress was very nice and the coffee wasn't bad but they were the only good things. I would suggest if you are looking for tasty food, go somewhere else, this is not the place, sorry. If you want to talk ambiance, it is about as bland as it can be, no life to it, no character . . . design = None.
google avatar

Robert A.

Yelp
Our second visit here, wasn't as good as the first but overall not to bad. We went with the French Toast combo with two eggs, hash browns and sausage. The sausage wasn't the greatest and the French toast could have been better, lacked a little flavor. Overall the service was great and the eggs and hash browns tasted great and the prices are really reasonable. Nice little spot with a small town feel.

Yelp
Had breakfast there the other day Hair in my eggs Long black ones More than one What's going on there Most employees I saw in there had head coverings I just don't understand Never go back
google avatar

Larry C.

Yelp
It was a great all American Southern style breakfast. Only negative would be the bacon, the cook couldn't get it crispy. So the 3 of us we left the bacon on our plates. Very wasteful.

Carol B.

Yelp
Best cup of coffee in the state of Virginia. Food is always delicious and service is excellent. Breakfast is served all day. The best of the best.
google avatar

Jenny T.

Yelp
Exactly what my friends and I needed after a long hike. Staff was really friendly, the coffee was hot and flowing endlessly. I got the grilled cheese with soup that I was craving. The potato soup was decent, the grilled ham and cheese although thin, was crispy and buttery with a side of potato chips. It's a local diner- lots of options on the menu -- it's not a Michelin star restaurant because it's not trying to be and that's completely okay because the prices were really reasonable too. We'll definitely stop by again if we're hungry after a hike!
google avatar

Matthew F.

Yelp
This is everything you'd expect in a small town diner. All day breakfast - check. Meatloaf on the menu - check. Nonstop coffee refills - check. Case of slices of pie - check. I've been here a few times and my experience was always pretty good. Service is typically good and the food is filling, if focused on staples. This isn't a place to be fancy, but the price is right.
google avatar

Lucy G.

Yelp
Everything was delicious! I had the homemade lasagna with a side of their homemade bean and bacon soup. It did not disappoint. Then I was pleasantly surprised that it came with homemade bread pudding for dessert. Wow! Chris, our server, was the best! If you like diners, you gotta try this place.

Neal S.

Yelp
Always full up here when deer hunting up in Marshall. Friendly folks, good food, and fast service.

David C.

Yelp
A great old-fashioned diner with a terrific breakfast -- we went there after a morning appointment. Service was impeccable -- friendly and quick. Prices were great. The biscuits are not to be missed!
google avatar

Monica A.

Yelp
Typical diner options with a very out dated dining area. Affordable food and service was courteous.
google avatar

Adam A.

Yelp
Great little diner! Big portions and friendly staff. I had the country scramble which was delicious.

Daisy R.

Yelp
Service was great and our waiter was the sweetest! The French toast is really good definitely recommend!

Aaron B.

Yelp
Wow! This is truly home cooked, real food done so well. I had the special this evening, homemade meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy and mixed veggies that were grilled on the grill, full of flavor. Family owned, family feel, personal service that is hard to find these days with prices that remind you of the old days too! Clean, nice dining room (and bathrooms!) with artwork and pictures that beg your attention. Bring the kids and the whole family, if you haven't experienced this place you're missing out. A hidden diamond you will not forget.

Ester G.

Yelp
Great dining experience. The food was so delicious and our waiter Cris was amazing. Will definitely come back. Thanks, from Texas!!!!

Patricia S.

Yelp
Found this little gem by chance. As my daughter had to use the bathroom on our way home to TN. Cute, quiet place with great service and great food. Great prices everything you could expect from a small diner experience. We will definitely be back if in the area.

David A.

Yelp
Beef bacon!?! Really? I was at their Strasburg Diner. The service was fine as were the eggs, BUT, they have an issue with PORK. No pork in the bacon, nor in the breakfast links & patties (chicken!?!). At least let the patrons know before they order. Put it in big letters on the front of the menu if you're really opposed to pork. Religious reason? It's not advertised as a Kosher or Halal dining establishment. What gives? The bacon was terrible as were the links & patties.

Rachel B.

Yelp
Not quick, not clean, not tasty and not inexpensive. Sorry, because it was clearly family run and we wanted to like it, but won't return.

Devin D.

Yelp
The food was delicious. I got the country fried steak and my wife got the turkey Rueben, both of which were great. The waitress was so super nice. It was everything you'd want out of a small town diner. Stopped here on a trip and didn't regret it at all.

Yelp
Exactly what you think it should be- classic diner food for the masses- now I am just typing garbage to me the 85 character limit

Mike Z.

Yelp
This place needs a good scrub-down! We have stopped here previously on weekends and this will definitely be our last time. The lack of cleanliness is apparent by the dried food stains on the floor, food scraps in the corners along the walls under the seats, dust-encrusted ceiling air vents, dirty light switch in men's room, dirty walls and floors in the restroom, and disgustingly filthy toilet in the men's room. There were no paper towels in the men's room (and none were restocked after 20 minutes when the staff was alerted) and an empty hand sanitizer at the front door (why even bother to put it out?) exemplifies their lack of focus on sanitary conditions. These are items that are not the result of a rush that came in and overwhelmed the staff, these are just nasty conditions that have lingered for quite some time. If this lack of cleanliness is so readily apparent to the customers in the public areas, I can imagine what the kitchen and back of the house look like....

Ann C.

Yelp
Really there is no excuse for such mediocre food. We did not order Chateaubriand and truffles. Is it that difficult to make turkey gravy that is not thick and lumpy? Or to not overcook french fries? Or to bring half sweet/half unsweet tea with lemon? Never again.

Yelp
Got to pop in here recently and glad I did. We had planned on going to Red Hook but it was closed for the season. The diner itself was exactly what you'd expect in a small town. They had a little bit of everything and I went with the corned beef hash with eggs and a biscuit. The food was nothing special but wat really stuck out to me was that it was not greasy at all. It tasted fine and wasn't overly salty. I was actually able to finish it off w/o hating myself afterward. The coffee itself was room temperature at best and didn't exactly hit the spot. The cost was very reasonable. The server was very personable and nice--I really liked her. The space itself is what you'd expect, plenty of booths, a few tables, fridge up front with various pie slices available. It was as clean as expected. I'd definitely pop back in for breakfast again or try their lunch, though I believe their entire menu is available all day.

Yelp
We stopped by this local diner on the way home from Front Royal. It is a small hole-in-the-wall type spot located within an equally small strip mall. The ambiance is pretty plain. Compared to the other hole-in-the-wall where we stopped the night before (Knotty Pines), Marshall's was lacking the small town/local/historic kind of character. It was just an undecorated room with tables and chairs and a few pictures of local sports teams on the walls. Not very memorable. The price was also a bit higher at Marshall's compared to Knotty Pines. I mean, it was still under $10 but a little more than other hole in the walls I've been to. On the other hand, I thought the food was pretty good. The steak and cheese was moist and flavorful. I would definitely get it again. Three stars for decent food and service.

Yelp
French toast with sausage links was not good. Served with half a stick of butter (literally!) and run-of-the-mill Log Cabin syrup. Sausages were cooked (read: microwaved) so long they blistered...looked like they were covered in warts and left a funny taste in my mouth. The bread used for the French toast was thicker than I expected but not as caramelized as I wanted... Tasted more like bread than French toast, you know? Probably not soaked long enough... Disappointing meal. Saving grace was my two eggs, which were poached perfectly.

Kaia m.

Yelp
Loved! Recommend the Marshall Burger, and the Cheese burger with bacon. We had spaghetti, and the breakfast. Our waiter was very nice, and the food tasted great. I recommend if you drive by to get something to eat. The atmosphere is just what you think when you hear diner. I recommend.

Yelp
I've driven past this location for years and the parking lot always seemed to be full so I gave it a try this weekend for breakfast. Not sure why it as popular as the parking lot implies. Food and service were okay but the place feels pretty run down. The back of the booth I was sitting in was loose, the cap to the Log Cabin syrup was broken making it hard to open without getting my hands sticky and when I went to the restroom to wash them off the restroom looked more run down than the front of house. I guess locals are used to it and may find the charm but for a visitor passing through it won't entice me to return.

Yelp
Very good homade tomato soup and balsamic vinegar dressing. The Chicken fried steak was very good as were the homade mashed potatoes and white gravy!! The grilled vegetable medley was incredable. Kat loved her roasted Turkey dinner and homade Turkey gravy. Server was very good and had a great smile. Leave Interstate 66 and have a good home cooked meal!! You will love the town .
google avatar

Yelp
Best bacon EVER!!! All the food is fantastic and reasonably priced. Try the BACON!!!! The wait staff are super nice and very attentive.

Michelle W.

Yelp
Terrible service and mediocre food. The server never came back after delivering our drinks. After waiting 30 minutes and flagging down 2 other wait staff, we got our food and one meal missing

Rick J.

Yelp
What a wonderful time we just had here thanks to Eric...what an asset he is to this place or anyplace he goes...! Service with a smile and a happy face....NoVa needs more people like him...EVERYWHERE!!

Danielle M.

Yelp
Servers were very friendly, food was great, and the beef bacon is a must try! All around a great experience!
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
Food is pretty good and the waitresses were polite but sit inside if you care about the environment.
google avatar

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
Amazing food in a unpretentious place. I had the gyro platter today and it was generous, well plated, and more iimportantly flavorful and one of the best tasting Greek entrees I have ever had including a trip to Greece years ago. Our waitress was efficient and attentive to our needs and the positive energy of this place was appreciated.

Adam K.

Yelp
As soon as you walk in, you're greeted with multiple friendly hellos. The ambiance is very calm and comforting. The food was delicious, especially for a diner. I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Ive eaten here a few times and every time its delicious! I order the Country Fried Steak with Scrambled eggs, hash browns and a biscuit! Best breakfast! 10/10

Yelp
After the debacle at Main Street Deli, driving further west on Route 55 brings you to the Marshall Diner. I'm thinking to myself - Diner coffee! And maybe some breakfast as I have not eaten anything today - it's about 11:00 am - so this is a bit of a late breakfast. I go and sit down - the waitress brings me a menu - the front cover advertises a couple of specials - creamed chipped beef or sausage gravy and biscuits. I've not had Sausage Gravy and Biscuits in a terrible long time - so I order that, along with two eggs over easy, and a side of bacon. Now in my humble opinion - there are certain things diners need to and should do well to be considered a diner - and traditional, greasy American breakfast foods rate high on the capabilities list. You need to be good at things like Corned Beef Hash, Hash Browns, Sausage Gravy, pancakes, and such. This Sausage gravy could have been anything. It looked like Sausage gravy, it had the right consistency - but it had almost no flavor. It was like a flour paste/gravy. I loaded it up with Black pepper, salt, and hot sauce in order to give it some flavor. A big fat zero stars on the Sausage gravy. I sure hope it's not like this all the time. I sure won't stop in and order it again unless someone else comes along and tells me it has changed. The fried eggs were decent, as was the bacon, and two cups of coffee, which elevates it up to two stars.
google avatar

Joseph R.

Yelp
A good stop for a decent burger and fries. Love the bread pudding when it's same day fresh. Nice breakfast but prefer burger and fries when I go here.
google avatar

Jon L.

Yelp
Probably not a bad place overall but my 1st impressions were kinda on the low rent divey side. I stopped in for an egg sandwich since it's a quick and easy on and off I-66. I got a fried egg sandwich on whole wheat toast. It was OK, nothing too special but adequate for a quick meal on the go. Better than a MacDriveby
google avatar

Steavi S.

Yelp
Very cute and quaint little diner. The service was super friendly and very quick! Meat lovers omelette and Reuben sandwiches were superb!
google avatar

Dave K.

Yelp
A good little home town restaurant. The soup was very tasty. I ordered the chop steak with raw onions as well as a cup of their chilli. I put both on the on the chopped steak and it was amazing. This was a nice little find and I am so glad we stopped on our trip. We are not local so without Yelp we would had never known or found the place. I truly recommend trying it out for a nice home cooked style meal.
google avatar

Yelp
We travel to Marshall often and always wanted to stop in to try. It's your typical small hometown diner with a friendly environment. The menu is huge with 4 pages of options. Our food came quickly and tasted great. Our waitress was also efficient and friendly. The restaurant was not set up to be pandemic friendly, therefore we had people sitting in tables on all sides of us which was fairly surprising but didn't bother me personally too much. Overall, we will be stopping in Marshall Diner from now on!

Sharon B.

Yelp
Great variety on the menu. They also serve breakfast all day... I love restaurants that serve breakfast all day. I had the hot chicken salad sandwich. The waiter was very accommodating. In fact, the restaurant had closed for the evening but he saw us in the parking lot and open the front door and told us to come on in and they would serve us.
google avatar

Preston W.

Yelp
For comfort food, it's the best in town. Lisa is amazing and always very attentive. They bend over backwards in their efforts to please their customers. Breakfast is the best. Always outstanding!

Yelp
The Marshall Diner is conveniently located just off I-66. It's a great place for breakfast lunch or dinner and they serve breakfast all day long. The food is wonderful the service is great and the prices are a good value. I wish this place was closer to where I live.
