Why Is ‘Mickey 17’ So Obsessed With Sauce? | Eater

"The leaders' private quarters are presented as the locus of culinary privilege: Ylfa is obsessed with sauce — “Sauce is the true litmus test of civilization,” she tells the ship’s crew — and her meals are far more elaborate than those available to ordinary crew, with steaks adorned with vibrant sauce and garnishes. She asks crew members to taste iterations from her pinky and smothers her own dinners in the stuff; when she and her husband invite the protagonist to dinner, his gooey-looking steak sits in more of a pool of its own juices while the hosts and officer Kai enjoy proper sauce, underscoring the film’s point that Mickey is expendable and that sauce is reserved for the select few. This behavior is read as a deliberate signifier of class and hierarchy: the production of pleasure for a privileged minority on the backs of an exploitative system. That cultural coding of sauce is anchored in culinary history here — the five French mother sauces codified by chef Auguste Escoffier at the turn of the 20th century formed the foundation of fine dining — which explains why these private meals function as markers of refinement and power rather than mere nourishment." - Jaya Saxena

All the cashiers were very kind and implemented superior service towards myself and my family. ❤️

My kids instantly found what they wanted for back to school, no second stops. I do wish I would have checked the backpack more closely, since to strap was cut off and I need that for hanging. Oh well, still a fairly good deal

Cluttered and poorly merchandised. Aisles ard too narrow. They better hope they dont get an ADA audit. Those aisles are nowhere 3 feet wide.

It's always a great place to visit. Love the treasure hunt thrill.

I don't go into Marshall's a lot, but I stopped in and found some nice chairs. I may strip the wood to be lighter, but nice and in great shape. The furniture associate was so nice to help me put them in the car, and she scratched nothing...

Very nice store and great selection versus other locations!!

It is Marchall's. If you have never been, they have a slew of items! The product was mostly in the area where it belonged. The thing I will highlight is the pricing. Nike hats are lower priced than competitors and great snacks are displayed near checkout. They also had a large seasonal section.

The manager of this store is a very rude person. I have never returned anything to this store. On Saturday, we bought some things with my family, several of them, including a basket that my husband grabbed. It had to have a piece in the middle and another on top. He didn't notice that. It was missing a piece. I went on Monday to return it and she was very rude, telling me that it was the only time they were going to accept me returning a piece like that when I have never returned anything. I told her that she could keep the piece and not give me the money back. I am a person who does not get angry easily but I do not understand how they can have a manager like that in that store. I love shopping at Marshalls but from today I am going to be forced not to go to that store.

Yelp
This rating is based off of the great service I received and not the merchandise in the store today... I was in the area and I decided to go into Marshalls to get look for dress socks and upon going to that section I noticed they had nice designer suits, which I've never seen there before. I thought It was a great bargain once I looked at the tag price and they had my size so I snatched one up. I didn't try it on in the store ( something I never do :/ ) especially with suits, due to me knowing my size. Upon trying it on, the suit was to tight and short on the sleeves. It wasn't to big of a deal due to the fact that I just stumbled upon the suits and I was really looking for one in particular. I am convinced that Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and Ross sell material that didn't pass the quality check at the manufacturers, but are still saleable at a reduced price. That suit felt like it was 2 sizes to small and 2-3 inches short in length. I'll just stick to getting socks and other accessories and buy suits from suit retailers.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite Marshall's. Not all of them are great though. The selection of clothes rotates very quickly! So if you see something you "Might" want buy it right then because it probably won't be there later. I bought a cute Michael Kors summer dress regularly price $189.99 for $29.99!!!!!! I also found a blue and white jumper on clearance for $15.00. Of course I bought that too. It was regular price $99. I love a great bargain.

Yelp
Charlotte, the manager was absolutely RUDE. My family and I usually shop here for all and any events, however that will change. I bought some boots on 10/28. They obviously had tried on marks from previous clients which is totally understandable, I took them home tried them out and did not like them. I returned to the store on 11/07 to return them WITH TAGS ON. The cashier helping us (cashier #1044) was fairly nice, she said she'd have to get a second opinion on those shoes just to do things correctly; which we totally understand. She turned to a young lady behind her which said she would call the other manager instead. (Both the elderly lady and young lady looked uncomfortable having to call their manager) The Head/Floor manager quickly came over with an immediate rude attitude snatching the shoes from cashier 1044, and saying they definitely looked used. I explained that yes they have try on marks and some marks were there before I purchased and she stated "Uhh so you would buy used shoes!?" My husband stated that the tags were still on, that I wouldn't wear shoes with tags on. Her comment was "That's easy to do" (take off tags and put them back on?) She threw them back into the box she stated "just take them as a return I will THROW THEM AWAY". The cashier nicely finished helping me which we greatly appreciate. However this seems to be an HR issue, first and foremost you can tell that the Work environment is toxic and second of all CUSTOMER SERVICE is not this managers top priority.. NOT returning to this location, the manager needs LOTS of training on what the priority is. All the reviews here are based off of horrible management!

Yelp
Would not be coming to this location again , My mother and sister and I went in to get bags for our spring break trip coming up and just felt to uncomfortable. One of the worker working in the bag section was just watching us and following us in the section. Then the manager came over while I am mid conversation showing mom a bag on my phone . Talking bout do we need help we said no and the worker continued to follow us . Yes we are black we come in to that location sometimes never in my life have we stolen or gave someone that impression. When we proceed to go to the register to pay the manager and the worker who was following us around came behind the register. Like that was so unnecessary there was more customers in the store who could've needed help or who probably stole because they was to busy harassing us . Do better every one doesn't still so stop treating people as if they do .

Yelp
Prior to this experience, I enjoyed Marshalls and appreciated the deals they offered on a daily basis. However, that has changed and I doubt I will support this company any further due to them causing my mother, yes, my beloved mother, much embarrassment when she was attempting to pay for her goods. An elderly lady named Carla was working the register and gave my mother a pretty hard time about an Arian Foster jersey they were selling for $7.99 (you would think they would be handing those jerseys out for free, but whatever). Instead of allowing my mother to pay for the Texans jersey at the advertised price on the unaltered Marshalls price tag attached to the said jersey, Carla continued being condescending towards my mother by calling her, "babe", repeatedly and felt the need to hold up the line for 5-10 minutes to verify the price of the jersey as if my mother was attempting to commit a theft. Typically my mother does not complain, but the service Carla provided was so subpar that she asked to speak to the manager on duty, Patrick, whom did not apologize for the poor service or attempt to clarify what took place. In other words, Patrick (manager) failed to rectify the situation and served no purpose in that particular instance. In the grand scheme of things, it may not mean much, but Marshalls has lost my family's business.

Yelp
angels work here had the best experiencing purchasing an extra large rounded beveled mirror & all the ladies were so sweet & special with i! Also the man that helped me was so sweet as well & helped me laughing with a smile on his face carry this big heavy mirror out to my car & so gently put it in! I also ended up having like an emotional connection with a lady that worked there and she was so sweet & hugged me. I really appreciated today & this experience & everyone who spread love & affirmations here today I love you all thank you so much so many blessings so much luck coming your way!!!!

Yelp
This is the slowest workers I've ever met! And there's four cashier and the line is not moving at all!

Yelp
Just FYI, our friend went to this Marshalls and had the same problem with the same manager. Just rude as they freakin come.

Yelp
This location is one of my faves when it comes to shopping for my son. Their selection seems to be better & not as picked over as most places. I find things for myself here & there as well. They tend to keep this one in pretty good order & the staff has been friendly for the most part. I've never had to return an item here, so not sure if they give you a hard time or not, but I'd be really suprised if they did. I wish their ladies shoe section was a bit bigger, but that's about my only complaint.

Yelp
The worst ever. This store is so small it doesn't make sense to be open. Customer service is the best either. Never again.

Yelp
Found an amazing painting that is perfect to hang over my bed!! Lots of stuff on display in this store yet it's not cluttered. The store was clean and organized. No long waits to check out at the register either. Lots of cool things at this location!

Yelp
I've been shopping at this Marshall's location for several years now, and I've never had a problem until now. This young lady named Angie kept giving me attitude when I asked for help. I asked to speak to the manager, she told me she would get the manager but never came back. I had my children with me so I decided to leave disappointed after waiting a significant amount of time. Hopefully this is the first and last bad experience.

Yelp
A step up from Ross. More organized with more designer brands like Michael Kors purses and Ralph Lauren. They do not carry maternity clothes. So that is a bummer. A lot of department stores have this same prejudice against pregnant women. Please reconsider as a lot of women would shop here for maternity clothes if available. Overall very clean and orderly. Kudos

Yelp
I'm a pretty avid Marshall's shopper. Yesterday I spent a pretty hefty amount at the Deerbrook location. Came to the Willowbrook location to do some returns. Half the items have tags on them, half of them I took off, however, kept in case of returns. I called this location prior to coming and doing the returns just to ensure bringing tagless items would be okay. The cashier had to get her, who I am assuming, manager to approve the whole situation. The manager, who I haven't gotten her name yet, came and had a snarky attitude for no reason. Told me it would take her SOOOO LOOOONG to do, it would be at least an hour. I said ok, I still need to do the return. She then rolled her eyes and snatched the bag. Excuse the heck out of me for making you do your job. Maybe it's a little more work than what you're used to doing, but you can take that attitude you have and go work at the McDonald's down the street where that attitude is expected. Never returning to this ghetto location AGAIN!!!!!!

Yelp
I purchased a Fitbit Alta for $79.99 on 12-23-2018. I was unsure if the specific watch I was buying was the watch my family member asked for, but the associate and store manager assured me that returning the watch would be easy in the event it was the wrong model and convinced me to buy the watch because there was no way to guarantee it would still be available later on. Later that day I discovered the requested watch was a different model (Alta HR), which I bought and gifted my mother on Christmas. I left the original watch untouched, in its packaging prepared for its return, which I had been assured would be simple. On Jan 2, I went to my local Marshall's (Katy Mills; Store Number 768) and the nightmare began. I attempted to return the watch, untouched and unused with a digital copy of the original receipt and was denied the return because there was no barcode on the image of my receipt and told to come back the next day (today, Jan 3) and it would be resolved. So, after being embarrassed by your employees and told to return, I did so today and the experience was worse than yesterday. There was a whole new staff on shift and the humiliation started anew all because the image of my original receipt is missing an obscure barcode. I turn all my receipts into my firms accountant, who uploads a digital image of the receipts to my document cloud in the event I need to make a return and I have never had the slightest issue making a return. There is no place in Marshall's return policy detailing anything about a barcode needing to be presented upon return and there is no warning of the humiliation your employees seem trained to exact. All I ask is that Marshall's keep their word and follow their displayed and published policies and accept the return of the watch I was harangued into buying. If there were an option to rate it zero or minus, I would.

Yelp
This particular location is not as big or well-stocked as other locations. They have every department but just in smaller scale. The lines can tend to be a bit long to pay and employees working the registers are never in a hurry to get you out the door. I only come to this location when I have a gift card.

Yelp
this Marshalls is generally very nice... it always seems to be one step up from TJ Maxx and Ross. the store is cleaner and more organized. The checkout line can get long but seems to move quickly. I love to shop here for gift items, seasonal items and linens.
