Yelp
I've been a loyal Marthan for at least a couple years now, and it took me this long to write a review because I've been selfish. I didn't want this place to get more popular/crowded. But it's already happened, and I love every bartender here, so it's time I paid some due recognition.
Martha's is just a gem - an especially sparkly one in the warmer months when you can enjoy the outdoor patio that overlooks a large off-leash dog park. I admit I was pretty bummed when they put up the fence last year between the patio and the park, but I have to just assume they were forced to go the Night Vale route. They would like to remind everyone that there is no alcohol allowed in the Dog Park. Fortunately, people and dogs are allowed. For now. Beware the voice.
Nevertheless, it's still an awesome dang dog park where you can watch pups of all sizes and floofiness steal each other's balls and then come hang out with you on the patio. Drink beer with one hand, give belly rubs with the other. What more could you want?
Okay, so actual cafe/bar review stuff that isn't about doggos:
- Amazing, friendly bar staff. Every single one is great. This is a rare find in this town and you know I'm right.
- Awesome selection of beer
- Tasty food, albeit a smaller selection than most pubs
- Decent WiFi and a TON of outlets! This is by far my favorite place to come with the laptop and do work.
- Plenty of seating options and a selection of board games
Only a couple minor complaints that I'm writing more as a heads up than anything:
- Music is totally touch and go. It's usually decent.. but.. not always. I love you, bar staff, but two hours of sad solo femme folk is two too many! And it's usually loud, so bring headphones if you're gonna work.
- Chairs aren't very comfortable. I still like doing work here, but I have to just accept that my butt will go numb in the hard wooden seats within the first half hour. Maybe I'm just old and need to bring a butt pillow with me everywhere.
Sometimes they do open mic nights (I think on Mondays at 7 or 8pm) but for the most part the crowd is a decent size unless there's a show happening at Rev Hall. So grab your butt and/or butt pillow, and head on over for a beer. And give Charlie a high-five. And some floofs their belly rubs.
