On the Grid : Martha's Country Bakery

"With three locations set up throughout Queens, Martha’s in Forest Hills is the busiest. This bakery is known for the best Berry Napoleon and has customers lining up out of the door. They must have hundreds of different kinds of cakes and pastries, all made on premises - daily - around the clock! They’re always improving upon old recipes and creating new ones to add to the menu." - Rachel Kaminetzky & Nicole David

Nice place for take out pastries and coffee or sit down. So many options will have you coming back for more. We decided to have a sit down bite with the little one and found the location to be very cozy. The seating is nicely spaced so it’s ideal for any occasion. There are plenty of places to park on the street at least the time we had gone around noon.

I have tried Martha’s before thru other people who brought cakes from there (always delicious) but this time I got to check it out in person. Stopped there for dessert after lunch. Great service, well organized place….you can get food to go or see the hostess to be seated. The 4 people in our group each got a dessert and we all enjoyed them! I think the mini passion fruit mousse cake that I tried is one of the best things I’ve ever tasted…not overpoweringly sweet but sweet enough, a little tart, light and small enough….it was exceptional! Their berry napoleon was also delicious. So many things to try, can’t wait to return next time I am in the area! Very reasonable prices considering today’s economy!!

Martha’s Country Bakery is hands-down one of my favorite spots in all of New York City. I’ve been a loyal customer for eight years and have visited multiple locations—and they never disappoint! Their carrot cake is truly unmatched: moist, flavorful, and generously frosted. I also adore their linzer tarts, although I have to admit the ones at this location aren’t quite as good as the Williamsburg branch—the texture here is a bit too thick for my taste. Still, the service is always warm and friendly, and the quality of most baked goods is consistently excellent. Definitely worth a visit if you’ve got a sweet tooth!

⭐☆☆☆☆ Disappointed with the service experience I visited the Martha Forest Hill branch today with my family for dinner. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the service we received. While the staff were checking in on other tables, no one came to our table for a long time. I had to ask a waiter just for water, and even then, he seemed annoyed and brought only one glass instead of four. Later, when I asked the same waiter for takeout boxes for our leftovers, he kept asking how many I wanted without first letting me know what sizes were available. When I tried to clarify, he seemed irritated and unhelpful. The food was actually very good, but the lack of basic courtesy and attention from the staff—especially from this one waiter—really affected our overall experience. I couldn’t help but wonder if we were being treated differently because we are Asian, which was upsetting. I hope the management looks into this and trains the staff to treat all guests with equal respect and professionalism.

The best in the town. They have huge varieties of sweets and all of them taste so nice. The seating environment is also very good and cozy. I came here so many times and would love to come back.

A classic spot for dessert and coffee. This location is always crowded but for a reason. I got the red velvet (9/1) the strawberry nutella creme brûlée (6/10) and the warm chocolate cake with ice cream. Be warned the cake is so small almost like a lava cake very misleading.

I am SO disappointed and infuriated with the lack of attention to my order. I ordered a cake for my birthday and the cake decoration was horrid. You can see the uneven lines of frosting on the cake, the writing wasn’t even centered in the middle of the cake and ON TOP of that, I payed $100 for a cake that looked NOTHING like the reference picture I sent. The cake was sloppy as hell!!! I wanted a rosette ombré cake and they said that they were unable to do it even though they have done it before (rosette cake pic attached below). The quality of Martha’s has gone down drastically and it’s extremely disappointing that I will not be ordering again from here.

The waiters and seater were extremely exceptional and sweet, the seater let us put our bikes and scooters at the front. We ordered 2 oreo cheesecakes, 1 brownie cheesecake, 1 mixed fruit, 1 cupcake, and 1 Nutella hot chocolate. All were extremely filling and heavy.
