Martha's Daughter

We arrived at a quiet point around 9:15 and received service promptly, but ended up waiting almost an hour for our order of food. Our ramen ended up being a little soy-heavy and didn't quite justify the price tag for me. The non-alcoholic hibiscus cocktail I had was excellent, though, and I enjoyed the aesthetic of the space.

Our first dining experience with Martha's daughter was ok but unexceptional. I deducted points for the cut of chicken, the noodles, and the broth depth. There wasn't really any flavor in the broth and I found that disappointing. The chicken had bones and cartilage in the thigh. I had no where to put the bones or cartilage so this also lost some points, the meat should be able to be eaten without worrying about picking out refuse from the food. The last and most important part is the noodles. They weren't even ramen noodles... Not sure what defines something being ramen if not the noodles but this was quite disappointing also. I would eat here again perhaps but the ramen would not be a first choice for me. I tried the Rose panna cotta for dessert also. The Rose was very strong ( read as drinking perfume straight from the bottle ) which was a bold choice but it was the skin on the surface and the old looking pistachios that struck me. I was told that this was a 5 day old serving of the dish after I inquired as the pistachio seemed soggy and starting to turn. The resolution I was offered was the dessert charge was removed which was a non sequitur considering it was at least 2 days past being really eatable but I was given 10% off my ramen. Rather than making a stink I paid my bill and left but I'll vote with my wallet at 19$ for a bowl of ramen I expect to at least receive ramen. I would return again perhaps and try something else but it's unlikely that a return visit would be at my suggestion. I am sad to give this restaurant such a low review as they have a lot of potential but to summarize the entrees are priced at a cost that quite significantly exceeded the quality of what was served. The drink cost was grossly over priced and if I return I would most certainly not buy drinks on cost alone.

Friendly staff and fun environment, the inside of the restaurant is beautiful! I love that they have seasonally inspired dishes and it’s one of the few places you will find locally foraged food like wild mushroom toast!

Super disappointing!! We called ahead to ask if we needed a reservation for 2 at 5pm on Saturday. We were told no, but when we arrived we were told we had to wait to see if they had space for us despite 3 open 2-tops and a completely empty bar. Then our waiter couldn't find more than one menu, so we waited longer and were finally seated. To start, the thyme spritzer that I ordered was good. But all drinks here are non-alcoholic, which we we're not expecting. Our appetizer was the walleye cakes. They weren't bad, but nothing to make a special trip over. For dinner we ordered some lamb chops with Sichuan sauce served over rice. We asked the waiter how they we're cooked and he said, 'Medium, is that how you'd like them?' What came out of the kitchen was slow cooked lamb (bones included) in a SUPER SALTY, greasy Sichuan sauce. The fat had separated from the rest of the sauce and pooled unappealingly under the rice. Unfortunately it was so salty we could barely eat two bites. I ordered the Stroganoff on special, said to come with skirt steak, mushrooms, and cream sauce. What I got looks like it could be served at a nursing home. There were no mushrooms, when I asked I was told that they we're pureed into the sauce. Not only was the steak chopped into small pieces, in my opinion ruining a nice cut of meat, the 'cream sauce' was more a bland, unsalted flour based gravy than something creamy and full of mushrooms. Mix that with some over cooked noodles and you have my underwhelming dinner. I was expecting a frenched skirt steak, that was seasoned before cooking, on top of all dente noodles with some discernable mushrooms and actual cream sauce poured on top. After a half dozen bites we informed the waiter, paid for everything and left. Food was uncomfortably bad, there are so many other better places to visit in Duluth. If you're a foodie, I wouldn't waste your time with this place. With the trendy decor I was expecting way better results. It seemed like the chef was reaching past their talents/abilities; you could tell the vision was there, but the execution really fell flat. Boo.

Food was amazing. Porkbelly ramen was excellent. Service was great.

The ambiance is great in this place, it feels cozy and has a cool bar. My wife and I were not a fan of the service, the host and server were pretty flat, and the food was enjoyable but not great. The dumplings were delicious, but the Asian beef special was just okay. I might try eating out there again sometime.

Food was delicious. It would of been a 5 star rating if it wasn't for our waiter. He knew the 8 person table next to us and spent most of his time talking to them. A two person table on the other side of us was given complementary chips & dip. We didn't get any. Over all I love what they are doing and definitely will be back.

My girlfriend and I were excited to try this place since it was brand new. When we got there, it was one of the worst dining experiences we've had. Like the other review stated, half of the menu was unavailable. The wait wasn't long, but it took us about 40 minutes to get our food. And I don't know if it was the intention of the dish or not but the chicken curry dish I ordered was supposed to come with potatoes (which it did) but it was literally a brick of potato within the curry (which I'm still okay with) and it was cold (unacceptable). It was pretty disgusting in all honesty. For the amount you pay, the quantity is unbelievably small. I would expect a restaurant that's new, with such an eloquent atomsphere to have half decent food but it was awful. This place is set up for failure if they don't get their food quality under control after all the "new restaurant" hype is over with. 2 stars cause they didn't somehow ruin the beer.
