From the minute I walked in, I knew I was going to like this restaurant. So much so I've been here twice in two weeks. Once with my guy friend, and once with another couple who are good friends, were all foodies. There is seating outside In front. Each table had their own fire pit. If you want to bring your dog you can do so if you sit outside in front.
The bar is directly to the left as you walk in. The hostess is right there too. She was friendly, and immediately greeted me and brought us to our table.
I highly suggest making a reservation. This place does get very busy, and if you want to sit outside you need to have a reservation, those tables fill up quickly.
The cocktails here are made well. I especially love the play on names they gave them.
I ordered their Spring Thyme Lemon Drop- citron vodka, Chambord, limoncello, lemon, and thyme sprigs on top. I really like this cocktail. My friend ordered their Pear Way to Heaven- vodka,Pear purée,Lemon, honey syrup. The other cocktail he tried was Martine's Vaccine- tequila,Honey ginger syrup, lemon, candied ginger. Both cocktails were great and throughly enjoyed.
In my opinion, this restaurant is doing everything right. The staff is extremely nice. My waitresses Erica, and Tayna along with server Mo who brought the food to all the tables was amazing. Mo was very pleasant when I spoke with him. Both ladies explained all the specials, and brought my food out promptly, and made good suggestions the two times I was here.
My original plan was to sit outside but due to the incliment weather we sat inside both times. There are still beautiful views of the Delaware River from inside.
The ambience was lovely. Dimly lit lights, fresh white linens on all the tables with a votive candle in the middle added a nice touch.
I started off with two appetizers my first time here. First The Deviled Eggs- they had truffle salt, capers, and cayenne which gave it nice flavor. Next, The Fried Calamari with Shishido Peppers. I could tell the calamari was very fresh. I even got tentacles which you don't usually get anymore, I kept eating it and the peppers.
Upon my second visit for appetizers I ordered The Fried Green Tomatoes with Shrimp, Bacon and Chipotle Mayo on the side. I really enjoyed this dish. The fried green tomatoes were very light and very crispy. There were grilled shrimp all around and the bacon added a smoky taste along with the chipotle mayo.
Again I ordered The Fried Calamari with Shishido Peppers it was just as I remembered it. The calamari was light and crispy and the spicy Shishido peppers gave it a nice bite.
The escargot was served out of the shell with crimini mushrooms, herb butter, on crostini. This too was very good and flavorful. Since the escargot was served out of its shell, this made it very easy to eat and share. The flavors of the butter the mushrooms and the escargot together made the dish rich and delicious on top of the crostini.
For my entrée on my first visit I chose their Filet au Poivre cooked med rare. It was really, really good. I felt it ranked up there with a good steak house. Served on top was grilled asparagus along with olive oil mashed potatoes, and a black peppercorn, brandy sauce. I ate every bite I couldn't believe it. My friend chose the exact same thing and he cleaned his plate. We were both so full that this time around we did not have any dessert.
My second time here I chose the New York Prime Strip Steak. I had it cooked medium rare and I must say it was perfectly cooked all the way through pink from one end to the other, (see picture) I didn't want to eat french fries so I subbed it out and got their olive oil mashed potatoes which are heavenly. It also had grilled green scallions on top. My guy friend again ordered their Filet au Poirve, and so did my other guy my friend. It cut like butter and was thoroughly enjoyed. ( FYI- don't order it past medium rare if you want to be extra tender.)
My female friend ordered their Ricotta Gnocchi with heirloom carrots, peas, tomatoes, asparagus, pesto parmesan. She got grilled chicken on top. It was a nice size and she enjoyed it. It needed a little more salt, but was good.
For dessert we all shared because we were full their Chocolate Mousse. It was rich and delicious.
Martine's offers some vegetarian and GF food. Parking can be somewhat of a problem. If you can find a spot on the street great if not you will have to walk.
I really enjoyed my two times here so far, and I'm looking forward to returning soon and when the weather is warmer sit outside.
