Family-friendly Lisbon Hotel: Martinhal Residences and Martinhal Lisbon Oriente

"In June, Martinhal Resorts announced the opening of Martinhal Residences and Martinhal Lisbon Oriente, located in Lisbon’s Park of Nations neighborhood. It’s a bit outside the center of Lisbon, but still well within reach of major attractions by both public transit and taxis. Most importantly for parents, it boasts a few amenities that are so family-friendly, other hotels in Lisbon can’t even come close to comparing. Inside the hotel, guests will find 82 rooms that will fit their Goldilocks needs — from studios fit for solo travelers and couples all the way up to three-bedroom, self-catered apartments that are ideal for families on longer stays. It’s these larger spaces I’d recommend for those with small children as they come equipped with full kitchens perfect for preparing kid-friendly meals and snacks; washers and dryers for when accidents happen; and separate living spaces, so when the kids go to bed, parents have a place to unwind, too. But it's not all about the rooms. There are common spaces galore, including an indoor and outdoor heated pool where everyone is welcome to splash around, a fitness center brimming with the latest equipment, and the all-important Martinhal Kids Club, known as the Raposinhos (which translates to “Little Fox”), a fully decked-out playroom with board games, video games, mats, cozy chairs, and anything else a kid could desire. Best of all, the Kids Club also comes with available child care programs, and the hotel boasts its own Family & Baby Concierge. Come meal time, families can sit down together at the hotel’s signature Terrace Café Bar Restaurant, which provides ample indoor and outdoor dining. Pick from a menu inspired by the Middle East, India, and Japan, with flavors bound to appeal to everyone, and every age, in any travel party. And, thanks to the walled-in garden in the back, kids can get up and roam around without parents worrying. Of course, it’s a good idea to get out of the hotel and explore the area a bit too. Within walking distance, families will find some rather spectacular activities, including the Oceanarium, arguably one of the coolest aquariums on Earth (don’t miss the otters and the octopus), the Science Museum, and the panoramic Cable Car. Or just head to the river's edge and stroll together as a family for as long as you wish, before you inevitably book an extra night or two at the hotel, because I promise, you’ll fall for Lisbon just as hard as I did. Who knows, maybe you’ll end up loving it so much you buy one of the hotel’s residential properties and become my neighbor too." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists. My wife, my two children and I have been living in a long-term residence since August, 2024. We have had nothing short of a perfect experience thus far. The size of the apartment is ample and the furnishings are both comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. We have a nice city view and can see the river from our balcony. As someone who works remotely, the dedicated workspace on the second floor has been incredibly beneficial. All four of us have spent a lot of time in the play space, the well-equipped gym, the two swimming pools, and the new Spa on the top floor. The Terrace restaurant downstairs has yet to disappoint. We have enjoyed coffee with friends, family breakfasts, couple's lunches, room-service dinners, sit-down dinners with friends and family, and the wonderful Sunday Brunch. We have yet to have even an average meal; everything has been fresh and delicious. The icing on the proverbial cake for us has been the friendly and accommodating staff. To a person, we have receiving nothing but the highest quality service. Their duties are always performed with aplomb, professionalism, and a smile. There is a strong and positive culture around customer service at the Martinhal, and it shows. We continue to be thrilled with our choice to call the Martinhal Lisbon Oriente home.

I had an amazing stay at Martinhal Lisbon Oriente, a modern and family-friendly hotel in a fantastic location. My apartment-style room was spacious, beautifully designed, and fully equipped, making it perfect for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The kitchenette was a great bonus, especially for longer stays or traveling with kids. Everything felt luxurious yet practical, with a stylish and cozy atmosphere. The hotel is located in Parque das Nações, close to Oriente Station, shopping centers, and the waterfront, making it easy to explore the area. The staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive, always making sure I had everything I needed. Prices were on the higher side, but considering the top-notch facilities, excellent service, and great location, it was absolutely worth it. If you're looking for a high-quality stay with comfort, style, and family-friendly amenities, I highly recommend it!

Throughly enjoyed our stay. Stayed over New Year’s Eve, A complementary bottle of bubbly was left in our room for 2025 celebrations.||The hotel is absolutely amazing, every member of staff are a credit to the hotel.||The location of the hotel is in close proximity to both the city airport & train station, the rooms & beds are of very high standard (extremely comfy), the breakfast choice & quality was absolutely amazing.||Thank you for a great stay, would certainly return & recommend this hotel.||Thank you guys!.

We had a family room which was a perfect set up. One large king size bed and then bunk beds in the hallway for the kids. The bathroom was small, shower only and would have benefited from some more hanging space. Not even enough hooks to hang towels for 4. There is a small kitchenette with fridge, stove, dishwasher and washing machine-dryer. This was helpful for days when just wanted bread and cheese for dinner. Room felt modern and clean.||Breakfast was OK. Didn't feel it was same caliber as other hotels of this price we have stayed in. For example there was one type of juice (orange), one type of yoghurt, just 4 cereal options. The pastries were tasty. There was "hot" food options but these were generally luke warm at best (cold would be a better description). You could order eggs to order, but noone ever explained what you could or couldn't order, seemed to just be expected to know what was available. ||The indoor pool was nice. Not super big but big enough for the kids to splash around. Similarly the outside pool is nice too and there is a trampoline that kids enjoyed bouncing on.||There is a kids club. What is very poorly advertised is that this costs extra - €35 per child for 3 hours I think it was! Unsurprisingly I never saw a child in it! There's also a play room with some consoles and a pool table, felt a bit sad.||Location I had mixed feelings about. It is 5 minutes walk from the aquarium and science centre. There are some restaurants there too. It is 10 minutes walk from oriente station (can take trains to Sintra and metro into town centre but for the latter it is quicker to uber and if 4 of you definitely cheaper to uber). Across from the station is a shopping centre with fast food restaurants and a supermarket. Otherwise the area felt a bit like a business district with not much business going on - mostly healthcare and dentists it seems, just seemed a bit soleless. Uber to the old town was €6-8. The set up of this hotel is perfect if you have kids and so we compromised on the location for that. If you don't have kids/need bunk beds, I'd stay elsewhere in Lisbon which has a bit more character.

Place this hotel in the center of Lisbon and it would be perfect. The rooms themselves have everything a traveler could want complete with a kitchen and washing machine. The housekeeping staff is top notch and will even wash your used dishes. The pools are so nice and are actually heated appropriately (many hotels claim heated pools, but do so minimally). ||||Sadly, the location will have you needing a car and even then you will consistently run into traffic getting to/from your Lisbon attractions. If you have business in Parque das Naçoes or plan to do a lot of sightseeing in the area, definitely choose this one.||||Breakfast is excellent, though it could benefit from some more variety of juices (just OJ). Breakfast staff are superb.||||Lastly, there is construction ongoing across the street from the hotel. The noise wasn't all that bad, but I was disappointed that despite a 5-day stay and a "superior deluxe" room, we were given a construction facing room instead of a pool/garden view (backside of hotel).

This place is a gem. I would certainly stay here again as opposed to central Lisbon. From service to the rooms, everything was great. It was a family stay and the kid loved the facilities as much as the adults. Not to mention the aquarium is walking distance from this hotel. Highly recommend.

This is a wonderful hotel in the fantastic Oriente location of Lisbon.||The rooms are spacious and luxurious, from the towels to the bed linen everything feels so luxurious. It is obvious from the attention to detail that the owners spend a lot of time thinking about the facilities, amenities and decor.||I highly recommend this hotel for both luxury and location. Book it you will not be disappointed.

This would have almost been a bad review but thanks to Sophia the one responsible for the kids department I’m giving it 5 stars. We booked this hotel with our 1.5 old baby due to the kids club and kids pool. The kids club is available until 2pm and after that you have to pay. A huge minus but we can handle it. The pool was heated and nice and breakfast was good too. The employees were nice although we didn’t get all the information about the kids club at first place, until we met Sophia.
