The Best Burger Buns to Buy That Aren’t Martin’s Potato Rolls | Eater

"This packaged-bread company, best known for its potato rolls, was thrust into controversy after its executive chair donated over $100,000 to far-right gubernatorial candidate and state senator Doug Mastriano, whose positions include no-exceptions abortion bans, claims of 2020 election fraud, COVID vaccine denial, and Christian nationalist rhetoric. The disclosure prompted immediate calls for boycotts and disinvestment; because its potato rolls are widely used in the food industry — including by a major burger chain for nearly 20 years — the situation has generated public pressure on buyers and suppliers and raised concerns about partisan counter-boycotts from the brand's supporters." - Dayna Evans

Why People Are Urging Shake Shack to Stop Using Martin’s Potato Rolls | Eater

"Popular as the go-to store-bought hamburger bun—praised for its sweet, squishy texture in taste tests by Serious Eats and Epicurious and long used by a major national burger chain—this potato-roll brand was founded in 1955 and remains family-run. The company has come under scrutiny after reports that its executive chair and other family members made substantial donations to far-right Pennsylvania candidate Doug Mastriano, prompting chefs, food writers, and some restaurant owners to call for a boycott. While the company stated it does not endorse political candidates and emphasized that individual donations reflect personal choices, many food professionals are considering alternatives—switching suppliers or baking buns in-house—and public pressure on large purchasers continues." - Bettina Makalintal

It's a fine local chain. Good options. Prices can be high on some items. There are produce options you can't find at Walmart. Their sushi isn't bad for super market sushi. One of the better chains for whole foods and dietary restrictions. Better selection of probiotic drinks. Also more alternatives available for families with food allergies or sensitivities. They have good deals occasionally if youre signed up with them or have their app, both are free.

Wide selection of products from grocery, hot and cold food, seafood, beer and wine, medicine, baked good and more. Staff is friendly. Not too crowded. They also carry wide variety of exotic fruits. They also have organic section. Flowers and balloons. Lottery and money services. Fresh seafood and sushi made in the house.

Customer service is always friendly Little on the expensive side, definitely get more food if you go to a smaller less expensive grocery.

Not Pleased! Came in for a few things and when checking out it would not accept the phone # associated with my store card. The Number is perfectly good ! Probably Parent Company Giant tech woes blending over! So instead of offering a store card someone I assume to be a manager says .... you're holding up the line the card would only save you pennies if you're lucky. Actually would have been 5 dollars and I hope Martin's Chokes on it! I'm heading to Weis Next Time!

Google
This store would have gotten a fourth star, however the women's bathroom needs a good cleaning, the stainless steel stalls are quite dirty and it doesn't smell clean in there. Besides that, a decent place to shop, and there is usually good items on clearance {check by the salad bar and by the restrooms}. The beer and wine selection is good, with a rotating stock of seasonal beers.

Went to buy a few things today and was not informed that they were having issues with credit/debit cards and was cash only until after paying and walking away. The ATM in the store was unavailable to get cash out too. Only sign they had up was on a piece of printer paper barely readable inside the front door.

Wanna give a shout out to the young lady at the checkout. She was very polite and helpful. She took her time and was so polite what a breath of fresh air. So please give her a good job from me. Believe her name was Naudia. Thank you

First, getting into the store leaves you wondering about the place, wading through cigarette butt's, paper and discarded bags.wind tunnel there, but no reason not to have somebody check for cleanliness. Selection is getting worse, The other day had to use restroom, caught a worker finishing up his busniss and walking out without washing up. Called him out on it. Maybe it's me , but it's a food store not a you pull it place, cleanliness should be a priority

Yelp
Every large town or small city usually has a bunch of small-time grocery stores and (of course) a nearby Wal-Mart. Some lucky areas (including Altoona) have another tier to choose from -- a somewhat up-scale but still affordable grocery store. For me, Martins fills this third category. Aside from a well-lit parking spot near an entrance, what do people want from a grocery store? -A coveniently close location. -A clean store, with . -Timely turnnover of old stock for new fruits and vegetables. -Helpful employees to answer questions or give info. -Clean carts with all 4 wheels working -Knowlegeable employees who can answer your questions on the spot Martin's has excelled in each of these areas for my family. In addition, a while ago I injured mu left leg and had a tough time getting around without assistance. That's when I discovered their whole delivery system. It was a Godsend. Few mistakes, good communication, timely delivery. Bob

Yelp
Just when you think they can't get any worse, they do. I don't shop at Martins much anymore based on past experiences that I have posted in previous reviews despite this store being close to where I live. I have however occasionally stopped in to grab a few items when there just isn't enough time to travel to a better store further away. I also have used their curbside pickup to speed up the process. However that service has gone down to the point where I won't be using it further. In each of the last three pickups there have been multiple dented cans in the order. From this I can only surmise that employees are being told to dump the dented cans on those using curbside pickup because they don't see the dents until they get home and aren't likely to complain. I know have received 8 dented cans in the last three orders. I no longer list any items as accepting substitutions because too often I wind up with things I don't want and aren't even very close to what I asked for. For example I asked for a package of a particular brand of flour tortillas and figured if they were out of that brand I'd accept some other brand...of flour tortillas. What I got instead was corn tortillas. That's like asking for steak and getting pork chops instead as a substitute. After all they are both meat aren't they? In two of the last three orders items were out of stock so after getting my groceries curb side I ran in to grab a replacement since I can't trust that the shopper will give me what I want. On those occasions I found items that they told me were out of stock sitting on the shelf, in plain sight, and there were lots of them. We're the employees simply listing things out of stock to cut down their workload? One has to wonder. So I anticipate I will not be using curb side in the future. I'm tired of getting things I don't want. I also am tired of having to go into the store to grab a replacement for out of stock items that I will accept, only to find they weren't really out of stock to begin with.

Yelp
Customer service at this story does not exist. Waited in line at the checkout, then waited for the cashier to actually start checking me out. No packers, so every customer is scrambling to pack thier own groceries. Even when the order was fully rung up I finished packing the my groceries alone. Cashier never even asks if you have a Martins Card and when you discover the mistake, and go to the office for a correction... the women there treats you like dirt. They may be understaffed, ( this is still a poor excuse for a bad attitude) but they need to be reminded my grocery bill pays their wage. BE NICE at least! WILL NOT go there again!

Yelp
Very pleased with martins. Clean well organized. Staff is friendly and very helpful. Being new to the area and store has its challenges maneuvering through the isles, the staff has been very helpful in directing me. Keep up the great work!!!

Yelp
Mediocre grocery store with ok selection. Chronically understaffed and always busy. Never my first choice for food shopping.

Yelp
So disappointed at the online service. Had to return to store for the rest of my order they forgot to put in my trunk. Substitutions unbelievably awful. Won't return. Covid response poor.

Yelp
Besides the fact that this place is always busy, it's still one of my favorite locations to shop. They have a great selection of produce, a nice cafe with more prepared foods since the beer and wine area were put in, and the aisles are usually pretty well stocked. The store associates are all nice and helpful with any questions you may have. I don't recommend coming here after 2PM on the weekends or you may never get out without a headache.

Yelp
Deli forgot to pull the coating on the pepperoni before slicing. Come one this day one stuff. Have you eaten a sandwich with this junk still on. Had to go cut it into bite size pieces. Amateur hour.
