I love a good bacalhau a bras, a traditional Portuguese dish made from shreds of salted cod, onions, thinly chopped potatoes, all bound with scrambled eggs and garnished with black olives. I was looking for a good place on the west end and came across Martins Churrasqueira.
In the time of COVID, they offer take out options, ranging from Portuguese roast chicken, cod (bacalhau a bras, da d'avo, a gomes de sa, a lagareiro), meat (leitao, carne de porco a alentejana, bitoque, etc.), starters and more.
I ordered bacalhau a bras for one person. The serving size was good value for the price. The texture and flavor were not as expected, unfortunately; there are better places in the city for this dish.
I also tried their snacks, which were good. Bolo bacalhau (cod cake) was nice, good flavor and texture. Rissol camarao (shrimp patty) had good flavor, but not much filling. Rissol leitao (suckling pig patty) was moist and had a distinct flavor (beer?). Rissol carne (meat patty) had good amount of filling and strong black pepper flavor. The patties would be better if the crust was thicker and richer. Tip: if you ever go to to Porto, don't miss the Rissol de carne, cogumelos e trufa at Brasao; they are heavenly!
Service was good. Limited parking available on the premises. The area is served by TTC 79 Scarlet Rd and TTC 189 Stockyards.
TLDR; food could improve, good service
