Martin’s Downtown is a downtown Jackson, MS staple. They have the best food and tunes around! When you go to Martin’s- you will always see a friendly face or meet someone new that seems like you’ve known forever. Post pandemic, they are thriving and came back bigger and better! Bigger parking lot, bigger event stage, better food!! My fave is the steak bites medium rare with a side of Lima beans and mashed potatoes and gravy! They even have pork skins for sale now! Patrick, one of the assistant managers, is always happy, smiling, and helping all of the Martin’s staffers who need him!

Food is good. People there are great. Bend over backwards to make you happy. I will be back.

Google
Came on a Sunday so they didn’t have live music but the music on the speakers was superb 1960’s style which was the perfect vibe. Boss hawg fries were amazing and the fried pickles were better than most I’ve tried. Customer service is top notch. Would definitely recommend to a friend

Google
Come on Martins I love your food and order a lot from your restaurant. But tonight was ridiculous cup of cup rice on side. And all the rice I got was a tablespoon full like really.

Google
My first time here today and the cashier/server was super nice! So as you see I got the ribs. They were very, very tender. Falling off the bone tender, but didn't have alot of flavor to them. Could stand for a little more seasonings. I could not taste any. The potato salad was the kind where they leave some of the skin in it my first time having it that way wasn't a fan of that but it tasted ok other that that. The beans were very tasty. Will I go back sure I will!

Google
My first time visiting Martin's and it exceeded my expectations as far as the food. I only gave 4 stars because I didnt sit down and experience the service. I got the fried catfish with green beans and French fries and everything was seasoned to perfection. I will definitely be back to experience more items on the menu.

Google
What a treat!!! Martin’s was recommended by our hotel and it did not disappoint. Food was delicious, and what a wonderful local watering hole (think Cheers with a whole lotta Southern Sass). Marsha, our waitress was AMAZING! Funny, brassy and had us laughing and feeling like a “regular” in no time. Please please please check this place out, you will be happy you did.

Google
Martin’s was recommended by the staff at our hotel (The Old Capitol Inn). We really enjoyed our meal! The 1/2 & 1/2 po boy was delicious with a side of fried okra (other sides available if okra isn’t to your liking). Hubs the hamburger steak with French fries and Mac & cheese. No leftovers. Ample portions. Fabulous waitress (Nadia). Would recommend it to others.

Yelp
Food was awesome. Service was great. Really neat place to eat. The waitress was very attentive to our needs

Yelp
Meh. We made a pit stop here for lunch during a road trip. It was crowded with a good mix of people from all walks of life, so it must be really great... maybe our experience was just off. The atmosphere is laid back and casual and while we weren't there for live music, the stages looked really fun. Service was very good! I was surprised because it was crowded and said seat yourself... I wasn't sure how long it would take for a server to realize we sat down but it was super quick. She was so friendly and very prompt even though she had several tables. The food on the tables surrounding us looked really good; the southern staples were probably the best thing to get here, ideally. Me and my husband got the burnt ends pork sandwich and it was honestly the driest, saddest meat I've tasted. It literally looked like chunks of dry dog food. Thank goodness the bbq sauce was good because it made the meat somewhat edible. We got the jalapeño and bacon stuffed hush puppies for an appetizer, which turned out to be overly fried and dry. The white queso it came with as a dip wasn't great either, I found it pretty bland. The fried okra was delicious though, and my daughter liked her grilled ham and cheese sandwich. Can't say I'd be back, but if I did I'd definitely try their southern food. They have a daily blue plate special and I'll bet it's good! (It's Friday - fried chicken and mashed potatoes, dang!)

Yelp
Martin's is a local favorite. Food is tastes good, prices are good and service is great. It's a great date night location, dinner with some friends or lunch with coworkers. It used to be considered a hole in the wall but it's anything but that. They have a section for late night live performances and a nice patio with inside dining too. My favorite dish are the steak bites. Seasoned well and cooked to your liking, you can't go wrong with this plus you get two sides!

Boyo 7.

Yelp
Good location downtown. Beer was good and cold and they had a good selection. As far as the food, I can't say everything is bad but the queso with the chips and queso may be the worst I've ever had in my life. Not sure how you can serve that if anyone on staff has actually tasted the stuff.

Yelp
The service was wonderful, everyone working there was very nice. We had a group of 8 and was able to find seats almost immediately. Unfortunately, some of our food came out earlier than others but overall everyone enjoyed their meal. Sadly, there weren't many vegetarian options and the vegetables they do have as sides I was warned are cooked in some sorry of meat broth? My group who ordered meat said they really enjoyed it, just wish there was a few more veggie options

Jason B.

Yelp
There was a nice, tall, young, handsome man who helped me out tonight and he was so helpful. I can't remember his name but I believe it started with a J. Y'all are very lucky to have such an incredible employee!

Yelp
Located in the heart of downtown Jackson offering nice large menu with full bar and great food options. Lots of parking. Service was good.

Yelp
Martin's Downtown is a good enough place to grab a drink if you are around the Jackson, Mississippi area. The staff was friendly and the drinks were cold. Isn't that all we could ask for? It also had a pretty cool vibe. I would definitely recommend a visit to Martin's Downtown.

Yelp
This is a bar restaurant we sat inside on a hit Sunday afternoon, there was outdoor seating for cooler days. My husband had the steak gyros. I had deep fat fried Oysters, ok very crispy breading. The onion rings were delicious probably because the comeback sauce is one of the best I have had in Mississippi! We got to set ourselves and got a very efficient and friendly waitress.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent service and food was delicious and serving size was plenty!!! Our server was on the ball

Jeff S.

Yelp
Food is good. There is a guy that works there with long teeth. You will know what I mean when you see him. I go in often to eat. I don't drink but I do buy drinks for my friends. He told that I was banned because I wasn't drinking. What an idiot. To many other places to go.

Yelp
It's been well over 20 years since I've darkened the door of the place and boy was I pleasantly surprised. We went as a large group for Sunday lunch. They have remodeled and it looks great!! The service was amazing. Every single person who came to the table to help, and it was a lot, were fantastic. We were a group of 16 and you know how they say you can't expect good service with a large group? Not true here. From the ordering process to food delivery and drink refills, it was flawless. The checks even came quickly. I had the hamburger steak with gravy, a baked potato and salad with house made ranch dressing. the hamburger steak is not hand pattied but it was good. The gravy wasn't homemade, but it was ok. The onions could have used more cook but that salad and potato were fire! A fresh baked potato is hard to find outside of a nice steakhouse and they have it here. The salad was crisp mixed greens with a pepperoncini pepper and tomao wedge. Mike got the steak bites, house made onion rings and a classic southern Mac and cheese. All were great! Our friends had a variety of things. All looked good and they said tasted great. I'm getting the fried green tomatoes next time. They looked incredible. This place is an old local place and a true hidden gem.

Yelp
Loved my first experience at Martins. My server, Marsha, was polite, personable and just great in general. Food was great and I had a problem trying to make a choice from all of the excellent dishes.

Whitney M.

Yelp
Our first time but definitely won't be our last. We stopped in for a quick lunch and were very surprised with the service and quality of food! We had the grilled chicken nachos, redfish with mac and cheese and the Mardi Gras pasta (not pictured) it was all delicious and very generous portions. Especially for lunch!

Yelp
Literally just called down there to see if they could do a trifle order for my mother's birthday .When she picked up , I asked the lady if they did trifle. She seemed confused but I happily repeated the question 3 times. Finally she said they didn't serve that . I asked was she sure because they have trifle on the menu . Then she said they only have blueberry or a strawberry trifle. My response was so " So the answer is yes ..." She must have felt some type of way about being corrected . She proceeded to say "well it's not really a trifle it's just sponge cake, cool whip and berries" .... I paused " I believe that pretty much sums up a trifle ma'am" . I then asked if can they do it in a traditional trifle dish. " We don't do custom orders it comes how she makes it " she said with a gruff, clearly agitated. " It just comes in a regular pan" . I didn't think asking for it in the dish ( which I was 100% ready to pay for )the way it's normally served was customized but I could see she was already irked and irrate and wasn't worth mentioning. Before I could barely finish thanking her for checking on all this and her time she hung up on me ! If this woman is who they have answering the phone about their food having attitude AND being dead wrong they might need to fix that. That might turn people off before they even step foot in the door . I know it did for me and I will never attempt to call them again about a clearly stated item on the menu.

Yelp
Fantastic blue plates and classic southern food. Very clean and nice building, attentive staff and reasonably priced. You won't leave hungry!

Yelp
You will find this place just off the beaten path and near the Old Capital Complex. This is a nice dive bar with parking available in the back. Rumor has it that there are a lot of vehicle break-ins at night back there, so if you do park there, be aware. There is dining room seating, bar seating, and covered patio seating. The bar is a full bar and you will find televisions at the bar as well as around the dining area. The bar area is dimly illuminated and there is an ATM in there They do not have any signature cocktails that I saw. They do have a fridge full of bottle beers. I sat at the bar and the bartended and server was very friendly. I ordered the Martin's Signature Club. It was a ready and sitting in front of me in about 10 minutes. It was not the best club sandwich that I have had, but it was ok. The fries that came with it were decent. This spot is more of a 3.5 star spot, but I think that it is closer to a 3 than a 4. I would definitely try something different if I went back and would also try to catch one of their events like a band or DJ.

Anna S.

Yelp
The "bouncer" threatened to kick us out when we asked why he cut off our wristbands from the other bar, since we planned on going back there afterwards. He was a complete asshole. Bar tender was nice though

Leslie R.

Yelp
The lunch specials cannot be beat. I am addicted to the fried green tomatoes with the crawfish sauce on top. I like to go on rib day. Boss Hawg fries are Great to share. The bartenders are awesome!!!

Lanessa S.

Yelp
I love martins! Always have and always will!!! Such a friendly environment. Chris is one of the kindest bartenders... he has been kind to me over the past 20 years... even when I was a young WILD ONE! I appreciate good music and good people! Martins is a must for anyone visiting Jackson!

Matt H.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service. Reasonable prices. Had a fried chicken sandwich with a side of mac and cheese and both were tasty. The fried chicken was hot and crispy - could've eaten the chicken by itself it was so good.

Gonzalo G.

Yelp
Jessica and the cornbread sounding girl made this place really feel like home. Very welcoming and the hospitality was phenomenal. Plus all the drink are amazing and food is delicious. It's a shame the buckets went from $9 to $11. Dang ol inflation.

Ricarda M.

Yelp
Jessica has the worst attitude! She is not customer friendly at all. It's apparent that she never wants to be at work!
google avatar

mona m.

Yelp
We got carry out from Martin's while my husband was in the hospital. It was phenomenal!!! The plate lunch has lots of veggie options and everything was amazing!!! DEFINITELY will be back!!

Yelp
I am not the type to post reviews, but the way Cindy & Cj (the so-called "manager") treated me today as a patron, I cannot let it slide! I went in at lunch time, so granted, it was busy, but I feel as if they are busy anyway due to their location being downtown. I always order the fried green tomatoes with crawfish sauce (10/10) & I order quite often because I, too, work in the downtown area. Today, however, the tomatoes were rushed as in hardly any batter, not fried long enough, soggy, etc. I simply asked Cindy if I could get more because these are not usually how they come. First, she acted as if she really wanted me to take them to the back because she was busy. So that was pretty confusing. She took them to the back twice, and she stated that the "manager" said to either give me a refund or I could just keep the tomatoes because they would not be able to fry anymore due to other orders. I asked to speak with the manager & she stated that she "was not going to get a manager because they were busy" and that I was to either accept the refund or take the food. So I simply stopped talking to Cindy. I spoke with another server (really nice guy) & Cindy interrupts stating that "it didn't matter who I spoke with because I was going to get the same answer". Then she went on to state "well yeah go get the manager so we can get rid of her". I was taken aback and at this point became heated. Cj comes out the back & just begins talking. No greeting or anything. I politely tried to explain my situation & he kept cutting me off before he stated, "well you made her come get me out the back so you're going to listen to me talk." Definitely did not expect this type of response from a "manager". I explained to him that I always eat there and I've never had them speak to me the way that I was spoken to on today. He basically disregarded my order and stated that they "had other orders to fulfill and we cannot spend time on your tomatoes". He offered me nothing as a result. But I did call back before dinner and speak with Stephen, general manager, who was apologetic, but Cindy and CJ need to be dealt with. I am going to be speaking with the owner of Martin's about these two!

Yelp
During my first, only and subsequently last time visiting this bar, I will say that I did have a pretty decent meal and the beer selection was pretty good. However, during my visit, I arrived at 7pm and and parked in the bar's illuminated parking lot. I will note that the bar was quite difficult to find based on one way streets, but I eventually found it. After an hour, I left the bar and went to my vehicle in the lot and ultimately found my passenger side window smashed out. I looked around the parking lot and noticed three other vehicles were also burglarized. I called the police and while doing so, I noticed that there were signs in the parking lot indicating that there were surveillance cameras so I thought great, we'll catch the *expletive*. Police came and took a report and went about our night. The next day, I called the bar since the night before, I spoke with a bartender who stated that the owner would contact me and assist in anyway he could. I thought great, this won't be so back so the next day, I eventually spoke with the owner and he was nothing but... a jerk. The owner decided to tell me that a car burglary hasn't happened in awhile so they don't mention it to patrons, yet the bartender knew exactly what happened when I walked back in distressed; also, the owner told me the cameras don't work in the parking lot so hey, criminals, go have yourself a good time if you're reading this! Bar owner basically said "sorry", and we hope you come back. Dude, you just had four car break-ins in one hour! Moral of the story is that good luck going to this place since your vehicle and personal effects are fair game!

Yelp
We stumbled across this bar and grill while exploring downtown Jackson. It's and older building with lots of character. There are two bars, one in the front and one in the back in the buildings divided up into several dining rooms. They were fairly busy as it was a weekday lunchtime. We were able to get a seat right away at the bar in the bartender greeted us immediately. I had a cup of their gumbo which I enjoyed very much and my husband ordered a barbecue brisket burnt ends sandwich and french fries. We both enjoyed our meal and would definitely go back.

M B.

Yelp
Great traditional Southern style plate lunch during the week. At night the place takes on a totally different vibe with some of the newest and best rock bands entertaining patrons. Very, very informal atmosphere and free parking out front (or back). You enter from the rear parking across from Hal and Mal's!

MaKenna C.

Yelp
Food was pretty good. I'd come back fasho. The tarter and cocktail sauce was nasty but everything else was straight.
google avatar

Emma D.

Yelp
Update: went back and got the chicken tenders with mashed potatoes and gravy, and butter beans. Everything but the butter beans was delicious. The bean could've used more seasoning
google avatar

Terry W.

Yelp
Call little bar. The ambience is awesome. Would definitely recommend this place. I'm not from Mississippi, so it was hard for me to get here. But now I know how to get there so every time I'm in Mississippi definitely a stopping place for me.

Alli N.

Yelp
Music horrible. Tried to request a song he pause the music and said "im not taking requests bitch" and played the same no lyric same song. Ass bad. Not for college students .for 34 year old edm non taste people. Martins never again. Its the 3rd time Ive eating disappointed bad food bad music.
google avatar

Robert K.

Yelp
I enjoyed the remodel look and the service was excellent. The Tuesday lunch special was smoked ribs which were tender and very tasty. With a side of coleslaw that had a very unique and interestingly great taste. The lunch price was very good, affordable and being downtown even better.

Scott B.

Yelp
Advertised live music and charged a $12 per person cover charge. 10:31PM and still no sign of a band and the place is dead. What a waste of a night.
google avatar

Rodney R.

Yelp
First time going, came because of word of mouth from another friend. Excellent, excellent food. Best country fried steak I've ever had in my life. Mac n cheese was well above average as well. If I am ever back in downtown Jackson, I will be back!

Mike L.

Yelp
Still the best lunch spot in jackson, always a perfect blue plate special. Staff is filled with some of the best people in the world. If you looking for a great happy hour place well Martins is it. Live music on the weekends! Food, drinks, people they have it all!!!

Shaletha W.

Yelp
We've been missing out. We just tried Martin's a month ago and we've been every week since. The food is delicious and the portion sizes are great. It is also reasonably priced and affordable. The staff is also great and attentive.
google avatar

Ella J.

Yelp
Food was terrible. Ordered a salad! Got a cheese salad. Fake Bacon bits overwhelming amount of cheese. Shrimp were ok. Shrimp por boy awful. No flavor. Fried green tomatoes no flavor and greasy. Cover band not blues
google avatar

Lindsay H.

Yelp
Food was pretty gross- cold fries. Over salty fried pickles. Also, the owner has plastered everywhere (door, windows, menu, etc) that it is a veteran owned business, yet he does not give a veteran discount. If you're going to exploit your service in the military to lure veterans to patronize your establishment, you should extend that courtesy by offering a military discount.
google avatar

Charles J.

Yelp
Dive bar with regular live music, cold beer, and surprisingly great ribeyes and redfish

Yelp
- The takeout girl is back, and in a pandemic AND a snowstorm in fact! Okay, let's preface this one... Picture, this, icepocalypse 2021 where it's Wednesday and not only can I not make it to a grocery store but I also end up with burst pipes, power going in and out, and when power becomes stable.... an oven that breaks. What is a girl to do? She gets the dreaded "Waitr"...again. Now Martin gets immediate points for the following: 1. Being open during this mess. 2. Being open for pickups/deliveries. 3. Being SUPER attentive to the order that comes through. 4. Calling me to let me know something was out of stock and could I please pick a replacement. Even on the sunshine shiniest of the best day some of these restaurants don't do this when you order through Waitr. Now having said that, I ordered the following: - 3 Diet Cokes - 1 Hamburger Platter, add Cheddar, all fixings on the side, and include mayo, mustard, and ketchup. - 1 Grilled Chicken Sandwich Platter with sweet potato fries (and they put all fixings on the side as well as included condiments) - Side of french fries Now aside from being mostly cold (which they CANNOT be blamed for due to the freezing temps getting from there to here..) the dinner was pretty decent! If it were hot it would have been an 8. Because it was cold it is a strong 7. The buns tasted fresh, the fries had great flavor. The burger was a standard but good burger if not a little on the hard side and the chicken was seasoned perfectly. The condiments were on point. The lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickles were all fresh and not wilted. I will go back after the storm to compare it with a fresher, hotter experience but all in all, it's a success. Thank you, Martin's for not allowing us to starve! 10/10 would recommend.
google avatar

Amira J.

Yelp
a special thanks to this restaurant for being the only restaurant open in downtown jackson during the snow storm. i had no groceries and was heavily relying on vending machine snacks to get by. anyways, came here on a thursday afternoon and ordered the blt sandwich with pimento cheese. this sandwich hit the spot for sure and it had a great amount of bacon on it. decent prices as well. slower service but overall decent experience!
google avatar

Yelp
So this is definitely a bar setting. It's funny the set up kind of reminds me of The Alibi on Shameless! Let's get down to the MAIN REASON this place gets 5 stars from me (as opposed to the rating of 3 I would've normally given them)....this was one of the ONLY places open in the middle of a terrible winter situation. City wide my friend and I had been starving for days because we couldn't find anywhere open and food was scarce. This was the ONE place willing to serve in such terrible weather conditions and I am so appreciative for this!!! Hearing them say they were open was music to my ears. Our waiter was nice. For starters we had the queso dip w/ salsa (yum). I had the (fried) chicken sandwich with fries and it was good! The place was pretty packed even considering the dangers outside. Also I don't know if this was a theme but it's very custom for people to come with cowboy boots and hats (lol). All in all I would recommend this as a little chill spot with nice food and a (packed) bar.

Yelp

Yelp
I really loved the vibe here - felt like a modern saloon! Great beer selection (with sours which I love) and we loved the music venue space in the back too! Seems like an epic spot to catch a show!
google avatar

Suni H.

Yelp
One star because me and many of my friends went to the St Patrick's day parade in Jackson. Everyone got wrist bands outside of Martins (was told it was for the concert at martins, Hal and Mal's and the outdoor concert for $25) then they cut off access to martins after a certain time and required another $20 entry fee and wristband. They then said they were not associated with the Hal and Mal's wristbands even though they sold the wristbands outside martins and said it was part of their show with Afroman.

Geoffrey G.

Yelp
bad service. wouldn't recommend. couldn't even get a drink before the band was done playing.

Brooks H.

Yelp
Terrible service. We bought tickets to an event. They did not check IDs and refused our conversation or rebuttal when our tickets had issues. DO NOT GO.
google avatar

Justin J.

Yelp
Good dive bar. Older crowd at happy hour. Cheap drinks live bands on weekends. A rare decent dive bar in Jackson near the colesium. Smoking allowed inside but back seating area to chill if you want to escape the smoke.
