At first glance, the white linen cloths, small table lamps, and crisply-attired waitstaff present a fine setting and ambiance-- but the illusion upstaged the food.
Instead of a small basket of bread, we were served only 1 slice-- sourdough OR multi-grain. Yet, for a $$$ menu, why skimp on the bread?!
I expect that a $68 pasta entree (Diavolo) will entice me to eat every bite, or at least take the leftovers home. I did neither. Sadly, the most exciting part of my fried calamari was reading the menu blurb. My partner's Scampi was tasty, but his soggy lettuce salad missed the mark. Apparently, Martorano's gives a high-priced designer image but serves a clearance-item cuisine.
On a more positive note, our waiters, Salvatore and Aniyah, were both very personable and attentive.
The meal (2 appetizers, 2 entrees, one $18 cocktail and a beverage) cost $197; $240 with tip. For coffee and dessert, we walked next door to Dunkin' Donuts. There, we spent $8.10 and weren't disappointed.
Given the quality of food we tasted, I can attest that this Martorano's is poised to rival any 24-hr diner.
IHOP better watch out!
