Stevie Wonder Makes a Low-Key Appearance at Eggy’s Diner Following His Minneapolis Show | Eater Twin Cities

"For Halloween, I’d head to Marby’s — the pop-up at Marty’s Deli on Thursday, October 31 — which will be serving a pop-up menu of beef n’ cheddar sandwiches and curly fries, plus desserts from pastry chef Elli (oatmeal cream pies, cosmic brownies, and nutty buddies) as she strikes out on her own with a “Little Elli” pop-up." - Justine Jones

Three DFW Bars Slapped With Liquor License Suspensions After Failing to Maintain Capacity Limits | Eater Dallas

"This Dallas venue was cited during the TABC's undercover Operation Safe Open for failing to adhere to reduced-capacity orders under the state's Open Texas plan, specifically the 50 percent occupancy limit. As a first offense it will lose its permit to serve alcohol for 30 days, with stiffer penalties for repeat violations. The action was one piece of a statewide enforcement effort that targeted bars in several cities, and TABC officials emphasized a zero-tolerance approach to noncompliance." - Amy McCarthy

This is the absolute worst—nothing but a money scheme at large. If you’re going to have a patio meant to entertain guests, and then a so-called ‘restricted area’ that looks like it’s still part of the patio, at least have the decency to outline it properly!

Been coming here for years and each time the staff shows nothing but LOVE.The shows are off the Chain and the back patio atmosphere is just gorgeous, wonderful, and the crowd just beyond Beautiful.

Hands down one of the best dive bars in Dallas! Great vibe, service and drink options! Lots to do, live music, dance floor, pool table and amazing patio!

It was my first time and it has a nice vibe and the music is good. I felt safe and I’ll definitely return. HOWEVER COMMA the drinks were a 0/10 . I had 1 shot and 3 drinks and felt NONE OF THEM. Idk where they get their liquor from, but they need a refund. It was 6 of us fresh off the plane looking to get a buzz and it did not happen! Everything else was great, I’ll pregame next time!

I didn't get a chance to eat. However, I partied till the lights came on. From the time I walked in the door till the lights came on nothing but entertainment and fun. Can't wait to come back for their talent show

Yelp
Last night was literally one of the most perplexing experiences I've ever had. And what's sad - it was over parking. My friends and I arrived, found a parking spot and were promptly told that we were not allowed to park in THAT spot because we would be blocking another car in. When we inquired about a spot right next to the first, we were told that THAT spot was also out of the question because we'd be blocking ANOTHER car in. Now, for context, there were certainly other cars parked in tandem in the same manner we were attempting to. So, not necessarily understanding the parking attendant's logic, we complied anyway and found a spot on the street where other cars were parked - a street lacking ANY signage mandating anything concerning parking. Looking in my rear view mirror, I see the same attendant approaching my car, only for him to tell us that we also couldn't park THERE. When we inquired as to why, we were told it was because the neighbors had complained about patrons parking on the street and the alleged littering that was a consequence of said patron parking. As we were in the middle a second discussion with the parking attendant about a THIRD parking spot, we watched two cars pull up, park, and several men exit and walk towards the entrance with no push back from the attendant. Overhearing the escalating debate with parking attendant, the incoming patrons even noticed the discrepancy and tried to convince my friends and I to park elsewhere because they feared the attendant would have us towed if we stayed parked on that street - the same street that had NO signage and that we'd literally watched others park on. The parking attendant also made sure, at this point, to call out to the front door bouncer to let him know that if we were unwilling to move from that street parking spot, we were not to be let into the club. Now, I know you're thinking "damn, y'all REALLY wanted to get up in Marty's!" And I mean, touché, because at this point, I'm ALSO unsure why we didn't just hang it up. But I guess we were craving a healthy dose of overpriced drinks and boundary crossing bouncers, because we gave it ANOTHER try. Circling the block gave us the much needed time to vent, cuss, and shake it off. We found a brand spanking new parking spot, free from threat of towing and took the walk from around the corner, back to the club. As soon as we walked up, we noticed that a car was backing into the FIRST spot we were told was off limits because we'd be blocking another car in. So, as any good-sense citizen would, we inquired as to what the difference was. The parking attendant had no answer. Deer in headlights. So, enter the driver of the favored car, whose Big T chain was really the star of the show, who decided to explain to us that it probably had something to do with the "size of the car", continuing the mediocrity of his argument by adding that "some cars are bigger than others". Bored, I let him know that I also drove a compact sedan, because WHAT?! Now we are ready to speak to a manager, because, well, who wouldn't be? One friend enters the club, as she knows someone in management. Myself and the other friend stay outside debating the parking attendant and the Big T chain crew. After a few moments, we enter the front door, looking for our friend who'd gone to speak to management, only to be met by a host, a man who I assume was the owner, and two members of the security team, one of whom is the same bouncer who was told not to let us in if we refused to move off the street. Before I knew it, we're in a shouting match with security and within seconds, I'm being grabbed by the male bouncer, prompting my male friend to intervene. The other security guard, who was female, took over and began to force me out of the door, prompting me to defend myself. I see red. I go blank. I gotta go. Because at this point, I've worked too hard to end up in somebody's jail, losing all the things I've built because of a single moment. And to be honest, I'm not built that way. Prison isn't really my thing and I really don't wanna be anyone's b**ch. But I digress. So, after being manhandled by security, the man that I presume was the owner walks out with the Big T chain crew, as if he's going to rectify the situation. He doesn't. Instead he hops in the car with them, for what I assume was a circle around the block to appease the optics. Long story short, this place isn't for anyone who refuses to be talked to crazy and disrespected. This is not my first rodeo at Marty's either. The security staff has been problematic and disrespectful, ESPECIALLY towards women. I suggest that if you have any morsel of self-respect, govern yourself accordingly and stay away.

Yelp
Yesterday, Friday, was my first time every coming. Full transparency, I'm not an avid club goer, but I can have a good time when I'm with good people. This club gave me and my friends just what we needed. Arrived around 12:30a and it wasn't packed at all. We did question if that was normal or if some other events in the city were going on, but the later it got, the more folks started to come. Dallas Black gay scene can be disappointing by most standards, but it's all what you make it. Between the drinks, staff, drag show and music and folks actually out on the dance floor, we really enjoyed ourselves. I'd come back for sure! It's very unpretentious, which was refreshing for a Dallas spot...everywhere seems to be gentrifying and trying to glitz it up. There's power in having somewhere you can come as you are and just have a good time. While I probably won't be out again soon, Marty's can be added to the list of places to go!

Yelp
Hennessy taste watered down. Second round, same taste. Watered down taste. From outta town, definitely a disappointment.

Yelp
It's A really fun gay place I went on Friday with a few friends had the best fun ever.

Yelp
The clientele is trashy The location is sketchy The smell of the bar is no bueno. The only reason they remain open is because the neighborhood hasn't fully gentrified yet. Once that fully happens, this place will be code violated out of business.

Yelp
Marty's is ridiculous. They don't post when they are charging a cover on certain theme nights. You show up and get charged for a crappy show in a bar with poor turn out. I wanted to like you Marty's. 3 Strikes and now you are out.

Yelp
First time at Martys Live- we came in for the DILF (which was sold out) party on 4/7/2018. So we didn't know what to expect here because this was our first time going to this Dallas Bar. From the outside the club has a decent facade. Road construction, directly infront of the bar was a real draw back at first sight. Road construction all over Dallas is a headache- so the club is at the mercy of Dallas city I guess. The club parking lot had major craters (not pot holes) on the noth side- tire eating, ankle breaking craters! Not what you expect for a bar that has people leaving at 2AM. So with the parking lot and construction- who knows where all the People ended up parking- we went early expecting a parking problem. We arrived at 8:30 to get parking- once inside, we asked to bar tender where the clothing check was at and he simply didn't know. The "happy hour" crowd was still lingering it seemed- they were all asked to leave and we were checked in. At some point we were directed to the back corner- yea a corner. Clothing check was good and efficient! No problem and it went fast. The club is extremely "dated"- seriously in need of modernizing for this type of event. It's also SMALL for one of Joe Whitakers events- certainly, when he can sell out Los Angeles clubs much larger. The drinks were small- and EXPENSIVE compared to other clubs in the area along the strip. The sound system and lights- really were a disappointment- certainly if you have been to other parties like this elsewhere in SoCal, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago, NYC, Palm Springs, or other urban areas. While not a "circuit party"- you go with that in mind. This was a serious let down and most of it fell upon the venue itself- simply not being modern, larger, and updated. It was a decent night out- but I honestly cannot say I would go back or buy tickets like this again for something like this in Dallas. On a positive note- the crowd was well behaved and not a bad crowd. We have been to purple party before-yeah, twice we made that mistake- you didn't see any of the drug nonsense here at DILF- so that's great! Yeah, it was a good "attempt" but missed badly. Sadly, most of this rest squarely on the location itself

Yelp
Great place if you are looking for a club catering to the black gay community. We went on a Sunday and there was a $10 cover. Thought this place was a strip club but it seemed to actually be just a dance club. There is a dance floor, pool table, and patio.

Yelp
This is the most horrible club I've even been too. I'm sorry to say. My experience there was horrific. The bouncer kicks me out for dancing on the stage . That no one was even dancing on the bum ass stage. "I'm like Where are the dancer " . Anyway I didn't even get a warning for it. The bouncer man handled me out and it was Aggressive force. Which in my opinion was unnecessary. Because I would have been compliant. I warn you avoid this place for doing a good person wrong

Yelp
Love the patio. Great staff. Great dancers. Come on Wednesdays afternoons around 5 and they have a potluck cook out. Love the music and lights. no matter when you go you will have fun.

Yelp
$12.50 for a small shot of patron is outrageous and you really should be ashamed of yourselves ...then the manager threatened to put us out if we didnt pay $25 for two shots ; luckily it was my bae's 50th birthday because we most certainly would have walked right up out of there! but never again!

Yelp
- I went here for the first time this month and have been back at least three more times. I just keep forgetting to check-in! The drinks are strong, or maybe that's just how I like them, since I get a hurricane everywhere I go to test the bartender. He made it like a Katrina (too soon?) and I was good-to-go after only 2. They have drink specials like $4 You-Call-It and it makes sense to start here on a night out, but don't forget your designated driver or ride because it's not walking distance from the strip. The crowd was lacking and I joked about whether the place was open or not. It could possibly be due to the holidays but in my experience, I met up with a lot of friends that showed up eventually so it was fun. It all depends on the company you keep. The music was good and the DJ kept the vibe going with pop remixes intertwined with occasional dance music. That's my favorite type of stuff to listen to so I may be biased but I enjoyed the music. They play all the hits here. There are both male and female (and maybe a few going through transition, haha) dancers here. They were all nice although I admit I didn't tip because that's not really my thing. I am giving it 4/5 stars because I felt comfortable there and everyone seemed to be getting along with no drama. The drinks and music were great. I would only take away one star based on the lack of a crowd and how it started out feeling like a hole-in-the-wall bar beyond the strip, but I ended up having several fun nights there. I would recommend going here at least twice and will be back with my friends again after the holidays.

Chuck P.

Yelp
I can't argue with many of the other reviews regarding the location (a little sketchy), the inside (a little dated), and the drinks (a little small for the price), but I had a blast...! It was nice to happen upon a great Sunday night drag show and the crowd was a good time. It was also nice to see that a club catering to the black and brown gay community is still hanging in there, as they are becoming extinct nationwide. I would definitely go back...!
google avatar

Ilexa S.

Yelp
If they get someone beefy or more cowboyish I would go in more often. My friends say they only go in for the specials but it the lil bois he's after....now when Eric from Austin is there I'll support him!

Yelp

Yelp
I paid with a 20$ dollar bill and they tried to say I only paid with a 5$ bill. I asked for a manager no one would help me. I asked for a supervisor and the bartender said they don't have one. I pulled out my bank statement and it shows I paid with a 20 from the atm and no one would even look. I'm here now and clearly I'm not drunk. This is a shady shady shady place. Do not go here

Yelp
Very interesting place. Decent drinks, friendly dancers. And on occasion a drag show.

Yelp
Have known bar staff and ownership for a number of years. This is a nice bar to enjoy entertainment and talk to friends. Bar staff will help with any request. Once dancers get to know you, it is easy to talk to them or they will entertain. Have had many good times here. Please tell your friends. If any of them look good dancing here, please let them know to apply...

Yelp
Great patio and sound system. Best to take an uber there from the strip as parking may be tight on the weekends. They have you call its which are my fav times to go :)
