I ate at Marufuku in SF many, many years ago, but today was my first time visiting the location in Cupertino. Marufuku is on Stevens Creek near Wolfe in the same center as Daiso. Marufuku is next door to the Brazilian steakhouse. I arrived a little bit before 2 o'clock on a Saturday, and the restaurant was full. There was one open spot at the counter, so I was seated right away, yay!
I ordered Karaage Chicken to start my lunch. The fried chicken came out really fast! It was served with a lemon wedge and a spicy sauce (surprise, no Kewpie mayo). I thought the color was really light, and after a couple of bites, I realized why. The chicken was raw in the middle. Eww. To Marufuku's credit, my server quickly took the chicken back to the kitchen and said they would make me a new batch--no fuss, just fixing the problem. My replacement batch of karaage came out with a more golden brown color and was cooked through, phew.
For my ramen, I went with the Hakata Tonkotsu Deluxe, which came with chashu, egg, green onion, woodear mushroom, bean sprouts, corn, pickled ginger, and pork belly. I was so happy to see my big, fat piece of fatty stewed pork belly. The broth was very rich and flavorful. Marufuku was super thin noodles.
Other than the chicken snafu, everything was really good. I will definitely be back. Thank you Marafuku Cupertino!
