Marugame (The O2) - Japanese Udon Noodles & Tempura (丸亀製麺)

Marugame Udon – Quick but Disappointing Stopped by Marugame Udon for a quick dinner before a concert. Although it’s a fast-food style chain, the price felt quite high for what you get — my meal ended up costing over £20. I ordered the large beef udon, but the bowl was only about half full, which was surprising. The dish is called “beef udon,” yet there were only a few small pieces of beef in it — most of the brown topping in the bowl turned out to be onions rather than meat. Taste-wise, the broth was quite salty and tasted heavily seasoned with MSG. I also tried the hot honey chicken, but the portion was very small — the pieces were roughly the size of KFC popcorn chicken. One thing I’d recommend is checking the cutlery before using it, as some didn’t appear very clean. On the positive side, the seating area is fairly spacious, so it’s comfortable if you want to sit down for a quick meal. Overall, it works if you need a fast bite, but the portion size and value for money were disappointing.

All the staff we encountered, from the serving counters to the till were friendly and helpful. There was a slight hiccup with my loyalty reward but the manger resolved this. The noodles were very good, especially the pork tonkotsu which was flavourful. I do prefer my food very hot in temperature, so the only other thing I would say is that tempura was just warmish. There is seating on the ground floor as you walk in and also upstairs. The dining areas were clean. Once you have finished eating, it is custom to clear away your bowls/cutlery back onto the tray and put it in the wheelie tower of trays. Overall a great experience and I would recommend this place.

Always good service and food quality at this particular branch of Marugame. Rarely waiting too long and food’s always hot and tasting good. Staff always nice and helpful. I’m a regular visitor when at the O2, because of all those things mentioned.

1st time been here. Service is great. Staff guide you how to order because it looks different with other restaurants. Foods are tasty specially Udon.

Nice selection of food. Cafeteria style, get your food pay first and then have a seat. I enjoyed the small side dishes but they do add up. The takoyaki tasted really good. There was no rice available. There was a queue. There were a lot of seats despite how busy it was. It can be a bit cleaner.

Don’t go there. The hygiene is very poor. The trays are not clean and have a bad smell. The condiments area has spoiled spring onions covered with flies. Disgusting

Delicious udon. We also liked the crispy fried side dishes (sweet potato, prawn, edamame, seaweed, etc), and chocolate dorayaki. We could add in condiments we wanted, and it was all good. Seating areas are available inside, and outside. Toilet for customers is available.

The new tom yum udon with fish was a complete disaster. The soup is far from what a Tom Yum soup should be. It’s lack of herbs and aroma. This was not the worst though, the fish (haddock) that came with the udon was really unfresh and stinky. I almost vomit eating it. I also had the haddock tempura at the same time so I was sure that’s not what a fish should smell like. I really should have asked for an exchange but I was in a hurry. I would strongly recommend people to avoid getting the Tom Yum Udon.
