I'm in Brooklyn. I get their products delivered. Gladly so. The overnight shipping charges are modest and the uni diversity delicious. Granted, it's San Diego/southern Cali uni, which tends to be mellower and milder than its Bay of Fundy counterpart, and it certainly doesn't give you the five second nitrous like high on your palate that great sushi joints like Taro (Brooklyn) and Yasuda (Manhattan) will give you when they have their A-Game Uni going on, but the uni, plain and flavored, is quite a few notches above "good enough" so it's worth waiting for FedEx Overnight. My two faves are the Ika Zuke and the salmon roe mix. The Ika Zuke is a blend of low temp cooked seasoned uni and raw squid, which really tastes good on its own and can be eaten like pasta, while the salmon roe tastes like the uni sushi you get in a good restaurant. The plain, raw uni in saltwater is good, but IMO, probably loses some flavor during the packaging process. It's not a slight on Maruhide, it's more like Nature reacting to its environment. If you're looking for some kick, then get the uni packed in EVOO. The olive oil starts burning the back of your throat a few seconds after you've consumed the uni. If there are any old-school Jews, Russian/CIS or folks who love smoked cod livers, any Maruhide flavor uni is a great ingredient to mix with the cod livers. Get some Saltines to lay it on top of, and you're in great shape. Additional toppings like horseradish is up to you.
Maruhide is good stuff. My only complaint is there never seems to be enough. Very addictive seafood.
