42 Notable San Francisco Restaurant and Bar Openings to Know This October 2024 | Eater SF

"This Kyoto-based, matcha-forward cafe — backed by its own matcha farm in Uji, Japan — opened a Palo Alto location at 250 University Avenue offering matcha-forward items like matcha pistachio gelato, matcha tarts, matcha lattes, matcha lemon soda, plus non-matcha drinks." - Justine Jones

Google
This place deserves five stars in my opinion for the matcha quality alone. Always packed and glad they are expanding. I got the Black Sesame Hojicha Latte. Great texture and drink-has the grassy flavorful taste towards the end (bottom). Menu is pretty big. Beginning taste is pretty sweet. There's no outdoor seating, but plenty of indoor seating. Place is packed and I came in during the middle of the week. There's a line, but orders go by very quickly. Well staffed.

I Didn’t like the taste of my cold matcha latte with soy milk. It was sweetened at my request but, really (?), did they do it? I was half way through and it stopped being sweet and became bland. Is this high quality Uji matcha? Pretty green color to the latte. I prefer the places in San Francisco I frequent: Matcha Café Maiko (Chinatown or Japantown - outstandingly delicious) and Shoji (on New Montgomery/Fidi SOMA - premium matcha and coffee drinks) or even the teahouse in the Japanese tea garden in Golden Gate Park. Ambiance: obnoxiously loud music playing in the café Service: not very enthusiastic to help; there is a self service screen right next to the cashier but it can be blocked by patrons in groups Tables: laptop patrons occupying too many tables too long :( Not likely to visit again.

Google
After visiting Japan last year and becoming obsessed with matcha, we’re harsh critics. This is authentic, high quality matcha. The matcha latte is perfect and all you need, but my husband also liked the cream foam matcha. Would return every day if I lived nearby. Super busy at all times, but worth the wait! The matcha ice cream was good, but not sweet enough. Would not buy again. But the milk ice cream was 8/10.

Google
Tasty drinks and quite popular. Got the matcha latte with the Hokkaido soft serve ice cream on top and it was pretty delicious. Though there was a line to both order and pick it up. Might make more sense to order online ahead of time than in the kiosk inside? I like the soft serve a bit might be good to try and get it by itself along the drink, to make it easier to drink. Overall though the end products is tasty and worth trying out.

Google
I ordered Matcha Latte +OkinawaBoba. My friend ordered Matcha Latte and she got it first. I’d been waited for like 15mn. It wasn’t that busy that time and then I decided to come up to ask for my drink. Barista didn’t seem to know my order and then ask to check my receipt, I showed them the receipt and then he went in and come back to tell me Boba is not yet ready. I need to wait like 20mn until it’s done. I told I had waited enough please make me different drink. They should have at least check what customer order and informed and not keep quiet like that until someone comes up to ask. Also I want cheese tart but after seeing the flies flying around and laid on different cheese tarts, I passed.

Google
They had many options of matcha desserts from ice cream to coffee lattes to little tarts! I got the matcha and milk soft serve swirl which was a the perfect balance of sweet and grassy! Unfortunately, the line was super long and the wait after we ordered also took a while. Also, some of the options, like peach soft serve were unavailable.

Google
I always thought matcha was overrated & overhyped but this place proved me wrong. This is my first time trying matcha ever and I’m glad it was this place. Visited twice consecutively. Definitely visiting again!!! Update: This is my go to place for Matcha now. Tried other places too but nothing tops this. Got to know from the cashier that they use cane sugar. I wish they had options for sweeteners and ice quantity too like they have for sweetness %. I’d still have it anyway though :)

Google
Maruwu Seicha is a charming tea spot with a cozy, homey vibe. Their matcha lattes, made with creamy Hokkaido milk, are smooth and flavorful, and the matcha scoop is a must-try for any green tea lover. A great place to unwind and enjoy high-quality matcha!

Yelp
I've been here twice already. There is usually a line out the door. And once you get your order, there's very limited seating space inside. The matcha soft serve is so good! I also tried the cheese tarts and recommend them also. They have many flavors to choose from and some are seasonal. My favorite was the regular cheese one.

Yelp
I went here on Wednesday before 11am and it was not busy at all, but as lunchtime approached, the cafe started to be at capacity. Definitely go weekdays to avoid the long lines that people are saying. I tried the Christmas bell special matcha ($9.90) which is a matcha latte with strawberry ice cream on top. Fairly cute presentation but a bit steep in price. The matcha is good quality and the overall drink even factoring in the ice cream is not too sweet, my preferred sweetness level. I also got 2 tarts - the Hokkaido cheese and uji matcha cheese tarts. The tarts are of excellent texture - fluffy, and I liked the Hokkaido cheese more. The uji matcha cheese is mostly matcha flavor and it was hard to taste the cheese. I would recommend getting the Hokkaido cheese tart to pair with any matcha drink.

Yelp
Finally. A local matcha spot so I don't have to drive too far! If you love matcha this is the spot. Not only do they have matcha coming in different forms, ice cream, drinks, gelato, tea, they have it in different intensities ! Like what? That's amazing. The gelato hits out of the park at a higher intensity because that's the same degree and depth that I've tasted in Korea. There's always a line (as expected) but it goes by pretty quickly and the vibe is busy as it's in downtown Palo Alto. Overall: 10/10 recommend I'm coming back here for sure !

Yelp
Ordered a few times for matcha americano with matcha jelly and boba. $8.50 for a large is on the pricier side. This area is extremely tough to park during peak hours. Friends have been getting it via doordash...they pack it better, and don't need to bump and grind in downtown Palo Alto. Although it could jump to ~$11 a drink, it is definitely worth it to not deal with the traffic and parking. Seating inside is available but limited. Self order kiosk and in-person available.

Yelp
Maruwu Seicha is a Japanese cafe shop serving tea drinks, soft serve, and pastries. They specialize in matcha and source their matcha from Uji, Kyoto the most renowned tea region. They have multiple locations across the San Francisco Bay Area and are expanding to other cities in California. This location is minutes from Stanford University and supposedly usually has long lines; however when we went we only waited a couple minutes. We ordered the matcha latte + soft serve ($8.90) and the matcha latte + snow top ($7.50). The soft serve was sweet and creamy and I liked the latte and its level of sweetness. We also ordered the Hokkaido cheese tart ($4.20) which was pretty pricey for a small-ish tart. I don't know what I expected but it was too cheesy for me; it was basically like a mini-cheesecake.

Yelp
Pretty packed on Saturday. There was a long line but not sure why because you order using the QR code then the drink comes out pretty quick. Seemed like a lot of items were not available though. Lots of indoor seating but it's so crowded I'd rather walk around outside. Parking was easy a couple blocks away. Ube Matcha Latte with almond milk and boba - this cost me almost $10! very good with quality matcha but way too pricy. maybe once a year I will treat myself.

Yelp
This was my first time ever going to this matcha soft serve place and goodness did it ever impress me! I loved their Hawaiian Guava topped with matcha drink-their poster sold me! Then they had Ube tartlets!!! Yummmm perfectly balanced between soft tartlet flavor of ube and cheesecake crumbly crust! Yummm Service was fast and helpful! I'm lactose intolerant, but I truly wanted to matcha soft server, so I got my drink to go- so I was surprisingly okay! My normally stupid overally sensitive stomach was fine with their grade of soft serve ice cream which was perfectly matcha based and balanced out the sweetness of the guava Hawaiian boba drink! I was surprised to see so many working people in this cafe on a Monday around 11a, but I guess in Palo Alto more people work from home. Hee. The ambiance was nice, relaxing chairs, yet crazy high energy EDM music. Hahaha I'm just a different generation, but I got my drink as take out anyways. The youngins seemed to enjoy themselves! Hee

Yelp
I've been coming to this spot for quite some time. Solid matcha, although seating can be crowded a lot of the time. It's a nice grab and go little spot. Strawberry Matcha Latte - 8/10 - My go-to! The strawberry bits are really nice. I love how it's not just a syrup like some other places. Lychee Matcha - 5/10 - Not my favorite. It was my first and last time ordering this drink a few months ago. It was like blended lychee jelly with matcha :/ Peach Guava Matcha Latte - 9/10 - It's a little thick because of the purée but it tastes soooo good. My fav so far.

Yelp
Every time I find myself in Palo Alto, I have to stop by here. I typically get the matcha taro latte but they didn't have it when I was there yesterday :( I got the matcha latte with the snow top instead with full sweet and it was pretty good! I would say it's still a bit milky which is my only complaint. I've gotten the pistachio one before with half sweet and boy do I not recommend half sweet for that. It was way too nutty. When I went yesterday they had a QR code to scan to order instead of lining up which sped things up. I got my order within a few minutes! It did create a brief line of people trying to scan the code though... I've noticed people actually sit inside with their laptops to study. I typically sit inside to chat with friends and it's been nice to do that. With a larger group, we just went to a nearby park area.

Yelp
Quite possibly my favorite matcha place in the Bay Area. I went here during the summer, so I caught their seasonal Peach Matcha and ordered it with matcha soft serve on top and matcha jelly (drink maxxing much?). It delivered, with a rich matcha flavor and light fruitiness from the peach puree. The second time I visited here, I was heartbroken to discover my beloved Peach Matcha was a seasonable item and was no longer available, so I opted for the matcha gelato. And yes, I still think about that matcha gelato to this day. It's the perfect amount of earthy and sweet, and I thoroughly enjoyed every spoonful. A solid choice for matcha lovers anywhere.

Yelp
Maruwu Seicha is located in the heart of Downtown Palo Alto. It's a small cafe that offers drinks and desserts. There's inside seating, free WiFi, and is a great spot to study/work at. It's constantly busy, but the wait time for drinks isn't long at all. There's street parking and parking garages that offer 3-hour free parking. I got their Strawberry Matcha. Their matcha seems to be of good quality and doesn't have any clumps (the bare minimum haha). They have options to choose the sweetness (if you get strawberry, regular is way too sweet and this is coming from someone who LOVES sugar). I wish the matcha to strawberry ratio was better (way too much strawberry), but otherwise I would recommend this spot!

Yelp
Love matcha and loved matcha before the matcha craze. Matcha Latte + OkinawaBoba - The Okinawa boba added a very unique sugary taste to the entire drink. Matcha Pistachio latte - Strong pistachio taste. There's a handful of tables and one unisex bathroom. We came around 11am and dang the tables were really grimy and dirty. I do want to try their other lattes.

Yelp
This place has really good matcha! I have been here a few times before and it does get a bit busy throughout the day. If you're lucky you can find a spot to sit and enjoy the cafe. Their matcha cheesecake tarts are actually really good. Full of flavor, has good texture, and not too sweet!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been wanting to try the drinks from here because I heard so many good things about not only their matcha but their tarts. I was hoping to order the pistachio matcha which was a seasonal drink but just barely missed it so it was no longer available. I opted for the peach guava matcha instead which I was so excited about because I generally enjoy fruit in matcha, and I love peaches and guava. In all honesty though it was underwhelming and kind of gross. The fruit was way too gritty, sour, and chunky, almost bite-sized. The matcha to fruit ratio was also off. I felt like half of the cup was just fruit as if I was eating canned peaches. I could barely taste the matcha and I've definitely had stronger/better matcha, but the fruit might have also just been overpowering. All that said I clearly ordered an unconventional seasonal drink so I would maybe be willing to return to try something else and give this place another try. Did not enjoy the peach guava matcha whatsoever and would not recommend.

Yelp
The matcha and Hokkaido milk soft serve swirl was great and really hits the spot when I'm craving soft serve. The tarts are also really good - fluffy and delicious with a buttery crust. Wished they kept the tables cleaner.
google avatar

Ashley Y.

Yelp
The matcha here is not as strong, but the milk tastes really good actually lol but know that their matcha drinks are definitely more on the sweeter and milkier side. This is a cute spot, but because of how crowded it gets, it can feel cramped and loud. This place has been super packed everytime I've been. There are a few tables available and I think it's generally easy to find seating since most people just grab and go.

Yelp
Yuzu Sorbet 5 rich yuzu flavor, not too sour but makes your mouth water White Peach Gelato 4 limited edition, seasonal flavor, creamy & consistent texture; the wagyu of ice-cream, too rich, hard to finish one cup; the white peach flavor is way too subtle, wouldn't be able to tell if I had my eyes closed; very pricey, $7.90 per scoop Ambiance 3 really long line that extends throughout the store and out the front door, which makes the place seem really crowded Service 3 there is a self-service iPad to place the order right next to the human cashier, but nobody knows about it until they get to the front of the really long line; may be able to find a better placement of the iPad to spilt the queue and make wait times shorter
google avatar

William V.

Yelp
i got the lychee matcha, and wow i could only have a few sips due to how sweet it was. I didnt really taste any matcha at all. the lychee was overpowering and tasted like i was drinking those lychee jelly cups, if you know what i mean. Pistachio matcha: The texture was rough and the taste was just ok. The pistachio flavour was very present, but again, overpowered the matcha. I was unable to taste the matcha flavour at all, but the aftertaste was bitter.

Yelp
Thankfully, we came at a good time and we were able to fully experience the café! The line is always out the door and there is never anywhere to sit inside. Although the line moves pretty fast, there usually is just way too many people. I really love the vibe of the café! Super modern and pays homage to Japan well. I will always add a star when they are playing Japanese city pop! We ordered the hojicha latte and finished it within minutes! The Hojicha was very rich, savory, smooth, and nutty- so much flavor, yet not overwhelming! Everyone loves matcha, but the hojicha is my fave! They have sooo many different goodies here! I will definitely try the tarts soon! I drooled over them in the display window!

Yelp
With all the matcha spots popping up in south bay, this spot fits right in. My friend and I went on a Sunday afternoon, and there was a line out the door! We had to wait about 10 minutes in line and another 5-10 minutes for our drinks/ice cream. I'm personally not the biggest matcha fan, but the Yuzu Matcha Soda I got was good, it had mix of yuzu syrup(?) and matcha, with a fizzy texture. My friend had the soft serve, and said it was pretty smooth. They also seem to have a lot of seasonal items and flavors, such as ube and yuzu. In terms of ambiance, it was pretty crowded, so I'd expect that on any weekend. There are a few seats you can sit down at, but space inside is limited. More of a takeout spot though, and the surrounding area is nice to walk around anyways. Would probably come back if in the area and want matcha!
google avatar

Joanna T.

Yelp
Finally a sit-down café to drink matcha. The Uji matcha latte that I ordered was quite smooth with the alternative soy milk I chose. Beautiful green color! The ambiance is VERY noisy with overly loud music (not conducive to conversation). There is NO free WiFi. Yet there are still people with laptops occupying space with a limited number of tables :( The order counter does have a self-order screen which is next to a staffed ordering station. It can get crowded in the space when people are lined up since groups often show up (families or couples); it defeats the purpose of speedy ordering. The soft serve for Hokkaido milk was in the midst of churning when I arrived so it would be a 30 minute wait if I wanted to get it. Not going to try it today. I will just have to go to another location.
google avatar

Iris H.

Yelp
Heard lots of hype about this place, so I decided to try it. Line was pretty long when we arrived on a Sunday afternoon after lunch. I don't mind the line but there isn't enough space to accommodate people waiting after order and those who are still lining inside to order. It's also a narrow one lane and space just seemed super cramp. I got the yuzu matcha soda. Love the concept of mixing matcha with soda: super refreshing(sometimes I'm just not feeling latte). But even the half sweetness was too much for me. I also tried the lychee matcha, which is insanely sweet. It definitely overpowered the matcha. I suggest getting 25% sweetness or even % in the future.
google avatar

Yelp
I've visited Maruwu Seicha a few times now, and while the matcha drinks are decent, the real standouts for me are their soft serve and gelato. They have a wonderfully creamy and rich texture, especially their Hokkaido milk flavors. Unfortunately, getting to try them has become a challenge. The shop is busy on weekends, which is understandable. But on my last few visits, they've been consistently sold out of the soft serve or the Hokkaido milk gelato and soft serve flavors. This has happened even in the middle of a weekday afternoon. It's a shame because when they are available, the soft serve and gelato are my favorite items on the menu. I really hope they can get a better handle on their stock in the future, as it's disappointing to make a trip and find my favorite items are unavailable.

Yelp
Matcha americano - had a nice dark green color to it, but didn't taste as rich as it looked, tasted a bit lighter or more watered. Sparkling yuzu matcha - very refreshing on a hot day, nice yuzu flavor in a sparkling carbonated base. Yuzu soft serve - also very refreshing on a hot day! Overall decent matcha but not as rich as my standard (Matcha cafe maiko), when I compare based on a basic matcha tea drink. Prices are a bit higher and portions smaller. Inside is quite crowded.
google avatar

Maggie W.

Yelp
Maruwu is still a fantastic choice for matcha in the Bay. I came again and ordered the matcha float (50 sugar) and taro matcha latte (0 sugar) with my friend, and we were both happy with our orders. The taro matcha latte with 0 sugar was perfect, the barista told us that the taro paste had no sugar but we were doubtful... When we received our drink, it was sweet enough from the taro! I'm glad we went with our instincts. I wish I went with 0 sugar for my matcha float and relied on the soft serve to sweeten my latte, because I mixed it all in for a nice and creamy textured drink. The workers here are nice, especially since this is always such a busy place. Don't let the long line deceive you, when we finished ordering we received our drink within the next 2 minutes. Seating is also relatively easy to snag now that the hype has died down a bit. I love coming here to try different drinks and haven't decided on my favorite just yet...
google avatar

Cheryl L.

Yelp
If you have ever been to Disneyland and stood in line without a fast pass, that's pretty much the experience here at this very popular dessert place. In seriousness, the line does move quickly and even though we were literally out the door in line it probably took us around 20 minutes to get to the front. There's only one cashier and then an iPad where you can order your own items. I've been wanting to try this place for at least a month since I've seen it on yelp and I finally got my opportunity to try it. I did not regret my decision. The desserts, drinks and soft serve are delicious. We got the Hojitha latte with soft serve, matcha green tea soft service were fire!!! of course parking in downtown Palo Alto is always a challenge. But always well worth a trip.
google avatar

Belinda C.

Yelp
Love the matcha soft serve ice cream! Really strong matcha flavor, not too sweet. It might be too earthy for some, in which case the yuzu soft serve is really nice too - subtle, citrus flavor. Or go for a combo and get a swirl of both. Service is fast, but ordering is not efficient. There are self-service kiosks at the back of the room, as well as someone taking orders directly. There's usually a line, but it's hard to tell if people are waiting for their order or in line to order. Pick up is at the counter near the entrance. Not a lot of seating - indoor tables only, and they were all taken. Recommend if you're in the area!
google avatar

Eva C.

Yelp
Love that their opened another location after the SF one! It's pretty crowded on the weekends but I will say that the line moves at a decent pace and the drink comes out in a timely manner. The drink pick up area was a bit crowded, which made picking drinks a bit difficult because there were too many people in the way. There are seatings available and they also have a gender neutral bathroom. There is street parking and public parking garages available. They also provide wifi at the place, but it's not a great location to get work done since it could get pretty loud and noisy. Their seasonal white peach matcha latte exceed my expectation. I thought it would be a bit weird but it actually tasted pretty good and it's not overly sweetened. I usually go for their matcha jello latte with half sweet and hokkaido whole milk.
google avatar

Bethany W.

Yelp
This review is purely for the cheese tarts. We got a taro one and it was 10/10 for sweetness, cheesiness, texture, taro-ness. So good. Cost was also fair for the quality. Only complaint is that service wasn't great. All the workers were on their phones and weren't the most friendly. Despite that, I'll be back to try the matcha and maybe work inside because it's super cozy!
google avatar

Mark N.

Yelp
I always saw lines for this place and decided to try it out. I ordered an iced matcha latte with a Hokkaido soft serve on top and have to say the matcha and milk quality were good, comparable to what you would taste in Japan. The environment was quite crowded for a Thursday evening, and the way the line is set up is such that you order at the far end and then walk back to the entrance to a roped off corner to wait. The price is more than I would want to pay for a sweet treat like this but to each their own in Palo Alto. Service was fine and I got what I ordered, but not sure if I would necessarily go back and wait in line for this. Try it out for yourself!
google avatar

Kat D.

Yelp
Love the matcha latte with the Hokkaido snow top! The "snow" is more like a rich, creamy whipped cream, and it pairs perfectly with the matcha. Pricey add-on though... an extra shot of matcha will run you $3 and doesn't taste like extra matcha. There's one kiosk for self-ordering and another spot if you'd rather order with a staff member. The system keeps things moving; the line feels like it takes forever, but ordering is quick and drinks come out even quicker. Pro tip: Go during off-peak hours if you don't want to wait in line. The inside is super duper cramped and small. Definitely more of a grab-and-go vibe than a place to hang out.
google avatar

Dave D.

Yelp
Maruwu probably has the best matcha in South Bay. Located in a small shop in University Ave , they specialize in matcha based drinks, pastries and ice cream. The place is clean but crowded. The flow is a bit strange since you place your order at the back and pick up your food at the front. The staff is friendly and the orders come out fast. We got the matcha gelato and it was fantastic. Great rich matcha flavor without an overwhelming amount of sugar or cream. I highly recommend. I'll be back soon.
google avatar

Sue F.

Yelp
Stopped by for my matcha fix and the lines for pickup looked long! The line to place orders was pretty minimal though. I was initially confused, as their signage was small and it looked like one line. Upon entry, if you go to the left, there are employees and a tablet to place orders. The other line was for pickups and they stand near the entrance. They have machines mixing the soft serve, cheesecake tarts, and plenty of staff working on orders. Seating is a tad limited, as that area is not too big. I ordered the following: ube tart- just ok yuzu tart- I liked this the best matcha tart- good flavor but just ok Yuzu matcha soda (seasonal)- Good flavor but I am not a fan of carbonated sodas Matcha strawberry- drink was perfectly balanced between sweetness and matcha. Oat milk matcha latte- another solid matcha drink Soy milk matcha latte- delicious matcha drink Ube matcha - just ok but needed more taro flavor
google avatar

Trinh P.

Yelp
Lychee matcha!! Two of my favorite things however I felt it wasnt as good as the other drinks I have tried here. How a powerful matcha taste. I could tell by the dark matcha color that it wasn't going to be as tasty. Boba was okay but I did love the matcha jelly! Lines can get long but service is quick. Matcha tarts are always a must!
google avatar

Allison S.

Yelp
Came here because I saw Maruwu Seicha all over social media. It's a super cute place, but the experience was kind of mixed. I got the strawberry matcha, which looked amazing and actually tasted pretty good! The matcha was good quality, and the strawberry added a nice sweetness. That said, the ordering process is confusing. There's a tablet next to the cashier where you have to place your order yourself but it's not obvious. I saw a few people waiting in line at the counter thinking someone would take their order and people going in front of them to order through the tablet. Some signage would help. The space itself is cute and definitely Instagram worthy, but the overall experience was mid. I'd probably come back just for the drinks, but only if I'm already in the area

Yelp
Was there Saturday and back the following the day for more! We ordered the original cheese, drinks and went back to have more cheese and tried something new- taro. Everything was yummy. Love the lightness of the cheese tart! Service was fast. Lines were long but quick. Place is cute but can be chaotic. We had nice staff encounters. If they don't hear you it's just because it can get loud inside with the music and people.
google avatar

Wanda V.

Yelp
Overall, the matcha latte was good. I wouldn't say it was the best I've tried. It is definitely more on the lighter side and easy to drink. I've waited about 45 minutes. The place is small and there's usually a line. The waiting area is by the entrance so it can get really tight in that area. I also would recommend coming earlier to find parking as this is in downtown Palo Alto. There is usually one self order kiosk and one person working the cash register for drink orders. The wait for the actual drink isn't long. Majority of the wait time is spent on waiting to get inside to place your order. They have a variety of cheese tarts as well! I personally enjoy the original, matcha and strawberry! I would definitely come back if I happened to be in the area but definitely not a place that I'll go out of my way for.

Yelp
Parking: located in downtown Palo Alto so streets are quite busy. There is a free lot to park at which made it convenient. Interior: space is nicely designed but a bit small. Not good for large groups. Wait Time: around 20min wait during weekend lunch hours. Items Order: 7/10 Hokkaido Cheesetart $4.2 - I think it's a standard cheese tart. Cheese flavor is light so not a heavy dessert. Creaminess is medium and sweetness is also at a solid level. Shell is lightly buttered. Overall flavor is average and for a tart it is quite expensive. 9/10 Ube Cheesetart $4.5 - ube flavor was solid. Not too strong but mixes well as a cheesetart. 8/10 Matcha Cheesetart $4.5 - matcha flavor was also good just personal preference for ube! Would rec this for matcha lovers 7/10 Hot Matcha Latte $7 - Matcha was super smooth but taste wise it was light. Overall felt like a standard drink so not too special.

Yelp
I love Maruwu and this location didn't disappoint. It's busy - with lots of indoor seating, but it was packed on a Friday night. The decor is adorable. They have amazing matcha lattes and AMAZING matcha soft serve. They also serve ice cream and usually have 2-3 flavors + 1 seasonal which is currently a tart Yuzu.

Yelp
Great place to get matcha in peninsula/south bay. The line is crazy (especially during the summer) and usually goes out the door and down the block, but it does move very quickly. There's plenty of seating inside, with large tables (think cafe sharing style). We ordered the classics, a matcha latte with soft serve, a cheese tart, and a matcha cheese tart. The matcha flavor is heavy and delicious. Great stop when you're craving a matcha dessert!

Yelp
Recently started making matcha at home (kinda good at it) so when my friend and I were looking to grab some dessert in Paly, I thought maybe we shouldn't stop here because the line was really long and I can make it just as good at home, right? So glad I doubted myself and stopped here, this place was fire. My home made matcha is not nearly as good, so along with all the delicious desserts I got a free slice of humble pie :D We grabbed the matcha cheese tarts which were sooooooo creamy and the crust was buttery to perfection. I'm a big fan of yuzu and so had to grab the matcha yuzu soda which was actually to die for. If I could figure out how to make it at home I might actually achieve lasting happiness. Needless to say the yuzu matcha soft serve was also fire... It was crowded and the line was long, but once we ordered -- and we ordered A LOT -- it only took like five minutes to get our food, so I think it was worth the wait! Now some might find it a bit pricey which is fair, but you're in Palo Alto so it's kind of par for the course (my friend also treated me so... my wallet wasn't feeling the pain hehe)

Yelp
Came on a Sunday around 12 PM, and it was already pretty packed! Luckily, I found a seat, and the line moved fairly quickly. I got the matcha latte with soft serve and the matcha latte with snow top. Both were good, but the snow top had a lighter matcha flavor. I liked the soft serve one more as it was different from other matcha drinks I've had, and the matcha flavor was stronger. I also tried the matcha and taro cheese tarts, and both were creamy and tasty. Would come back to try their other flavors. The place has a simple, sleek, and clean vibe. Nice spot to enjoy matcha and get some work done.

Yelp
Good matcha shop in downtown Palo Alto that offers a nice variety of drinks, tarts & ice cream. The line moves pretty quickly and it doesn't take long to get your order at pick up. We had the cold matcha Americano which was decent quality & taste. One of the few tea shops we can get it unsweetened and without milk. They don't allow you to adjust the level of ice but it worked out with the drinks when the ice melted and the matcha stayed well-mixed to the last drop. We also had the matcha soft serve ice cream which was quite good but it was swirled into the cup such that it was hollow in the middle. That was a turn-off for us but otherwise it was good.

Yelp
I visited during their opening week 10/ 2024, and it was really packed even at 8 PM (def hype of a new spot) I ordered a matcha latte and requested it 1/2 sweet, it was way too sweet when it came out. I asked the barista if they could adjust it, but didn't seem like they wanted to fix it & told me "i'll ask the manager / sth". It took a really long time, I understand they were busy, but I'd like to be able to drink what I ordered.... After waiting quite a while, I had to leave, so I just asked them to add more milk so I could at least drink it & doesn't go to waste. Although I didn't have a great experience, the cafe itself had a nice cozy interior, plenty of seating & offer a solid variety of matcha drinks + soft serveice creams

Yelp
This is my daughter's new favorite matcha spot in the Bay and she wanted me to try it. I can absolutely understand why. I ordered the double matcha Americano with matcha jelly and it is very matcha-flavorful. The space has community seating and they have a variety of Hokkaido style cheese tarts also. Matcha soft serve if you are in the mood. The matcha menu has a little of everything for matcha lovers. Casual. Street parking and structures nearby. Good service. Please come and create your own adventure.

Yelp
My last trip to the Bay Area wouldn't be complete without any matcha. Maruwu Seicha was highly recommended by my friends who know I love matcha and told me it was comparable to matcha spots back in LA, naturally I had to give their matcha a try. Seicha was so good that I had to go twice during my short visit. I had the Matcha Latte with Snow Top, naturally high quality matcha from Uji, Kyoto made it great. I also had the Hojicha Latte with Okinawa Boba and also great. I got some financier for souvenir as well. Overall really great, just that line is so long... but it's understandable

Yelp
The store was crowded, but the line moved quickly. I got their ice cream and a taro matcha drink. No complaints about the ice cream--it was delicious. The taro in the drink tasted real and fresh, but it was just really hard to drink. It was also very thick. Pretty average place, everything is pricey tho

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about the matcha here. Some drinks are either really good or really bad depending on the drink. Lychee matcha: 3/10 Tasted so bad that I almost didn't come back. The lychee overpowered the bitter matcha and it tasted more like a sickly sweet lychee drink. Matcha tea: 2/10 Tried some of the matcha tea and it was overwhelming bitter. The color also looked dark compared to the expected vibrant ceremonial grade matcha. Peach matcha: 8.5/10 This is a seasonal drink so perfect for the summer. Very refreshing and while the matcha wasn't sweetened, the peach mixed together nicely complimenting it. Hokkaido matcha tart: 2/10 No. Just no. Do not recommend. Wouldn't go out of my way to drive here but if I'm ever in the area I would stop by.
