Maruwu Seicha - SF Japantown

The cookies have beautiful colors and a moderately sweet taste, making them delicious. The packaging has a fancy, Japanese-style design. The tea offers a balanced blend of bitterness and sweetness, giving off a healthy impression. The place is always crowded with people waiting, and all the prepared tables are fully occupied. The tea is reasonably priced, but the cookies are somewhat expensive.

I definitely would recommend this location over the Palo Alto one. It is quite busy, but not as busy as the Palo Alto location. The line moves fast and your food comes out quite quickly after you order. So if you want to try Maruwu Seicha I would recommend going to the one in Japantown. Service: There’s 2 lines, one for the self serve kiosk and one to order via a person at the register. Ironically the server line moves faster because people use the self-serve kiosk to browse the menu and decide what to order. Even so, I only waited about 15 min in line to order and got my drink in less than 2 minutes. So I really appreciate the fast service here. This is much faster than the Palo Alto location, where on a busy Saturday afternoon I’ve waited 30 min to even order and 30 min for the order to be made. I got a medium strawberry matcha latte for $6.90. I liked the sweet strawberry filing at the bottom. The matcha itself is a very intense flavor, so it tasted grassy to me, but I think I don’t really like a strong matcha flavor in general. Still, I am curious to try their matcha tarts and matcha ice cream. The inside is very warm and inviting. I like how beautiful they’ve made it by lining the walls with wood panels and adding dark green highlights. It is basically a small shop, but there is tables right outside of the shop you can sit at.

Maruwu Seicha has pretty good matcha! They have lots of drinks to choose from even if you don't like matcha or want something else! Their tarts not only look pretty but they're also pretty good. I tried the regular and the matcha and both were tasted yummy! There are seats directly infront which I love because many places in Japan Town don't allow drinks inside their store. I love ordering the iced matcha latte and it always never disappoints! Every staff who has taken and given my order have always been very nice and pleasant. There's always a kiosk at the side too if you don't feel like talking to people!

Matcha soft serve -- 10/10. The matcha was very intense... definitely the strongest and best matcha l have tried in all of SF. Note that the matcha's intensity will be different every single day. The matcha in this photo was the darkest green they have ever sold. Nowadays, their matcha is a lot lighter. But even when their matcha is not that strong, the potent, rich matcha flavor is still there... most likely because their matcha (as they claimed) came from Kyoto. Uji Matcha Cheese Tart - 2.5/10. Tasted weird. The cheese and the matcha did not go well together. The flavor pairing did not make sense. Strawberry Matcha Latte - 8/10. The matcha was strong. The milk was well balanced and sweetened. The strawberry puree was something special. I believe the strawberry puree was made from scratch. The three combined together makes it very harmonious, as the sweetness from the strawberry puree and the milk contrasted very well with the bitterness in the matcha. Hojicha Snow Top -- 9/10. The milk was a bit too sweetened for my taste. The snow top was unique --the umami-ness from the cheese was concentrated and very unlike other cheese foams. The snow top here is a cheese foam that was very dense, but very light -- the dense flavor profile was there, while keeping the texture light and fluffy - something that is very tricky to get right. The hojicha was strong, rich, and aromatic. The snow top is a must have, as the umami-ness from the snow top is very much needed to bring the sweetness and bitterness of the hojicha together.

best matcha I’ve had in SF! everything was strong, decadent, & earthy with just the right amount of sweetness. The matcha cheese tart was my favorite but the mango matcha latte and the soft serve were both equally phenomenal.

Maruwu Seicha always has a long line for tablet orders, but ordering at the register is much faster. Once you place your order, the drinks come out quickly. And you can't go wrong with any of their matcha options.

I usually don't enjoy matcha, but this place is great! I loved the soft-serve ice cream, the little dessert tarts were fantastic (all of the flavors), and I even got a drink! I fell in love with this matcha because everything looked amazing, and it lived up to my taste expectations!
