Marv & Ben

"The young owners bring plenty of enthusiasm to this little restaurant, where dining is split over two dimly lit floors. Organic produce features in seasonal cooking which displays purity and depth of flavour. They produce 6 dishes each evening, which are priced individually or as 4 or 6 courses." - Michelin Inspector

"Simple Fancy Food Marv & Ben has become famous within Copenhagen for its focus on simple classics served in an artistic way while still remaining packed with flavor. As with most New Nordic restaurants, the menu is highly seasonal and draws heavily from what is available in Denmark. The restaurant states that everything used on the menu is Danish and that they make an effort to source things from as close to Copenhagen as possible. This includes growing a lot of what they use in their own garden. The wines served are biodynamic and organic. Marv & Ben aims for a relaxed feel which has, at times, been described as a gastro-pub ambience."

Marv and Ben is easily one of the top three restaurants I’ve ever been to—all things considered. (Honestly, even better than some three-Michelin-star places I’ve tried.) We opted for the six-course menu, and it did not disappoint. The food was exceptional and wasn’t too filling with perfectly balanced flavors—nothing was too overpowering, and everything just worked together beautifully. One thing that really stood out was the fish dishes. They were incredibly fresh and didn’t have that fishy taste, which made it enjoyable for everyone. Now, the real game changer was the juice pairing—super unique and way more interesting than I expected. Each juice was paired so well with the food, and it just made for a really fun and different experience, especially for those who don’t want to drink alcohol. As for service, it was accommodating, and the staff were flexible with our food requests. I mean, it was good—casual, friendly, and what you’d expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Nothing too special, though. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would definitely visit again. Honestly, based on taste alone, I’d say Marv and Ben is deserving of a Michelin star.

My partner and I had a fantastic experience at Marv & Ben. We opted for the à la carte menu and would recommend ordering at least 4 dishes per person, as the portions are similar in size to the tasting menu. We tried basically everything from the tasting menu: to start a super fresh dish with raw Hamachi, elderflower and green strawberry. Then we tried a velvety, super intense dish with Mushrooms egg yolk and ramson (absolutely mind-blowing). As main I tried a very interesting dish: it looked like a mousse of leek that hides a trout roe and walnut core. We continued with a Raw beef tartar served with chanterelle, tomato and charcoal. My partner had the Pork–celeriac–parsley as main, the dish is assembled at your table with its delicious gravy. Finally we had the Rhubarb–parsnip–woodruff dessert to end on a high note. Every dish was innovative, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. We paired our meal with two signature cocktails, both well-crafted and balanced. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and the atmosphere was intimate yet stylish — perfect for a special night out. We spent around 1500 DKK in total, which is definitely on the pricey side, but well within the range of fine dining in Copenhagen and absolutely worth it for the quality.

Google
Only good things to say about our experience here. First time in a fine dining type experience and the staff made us feel comfortable and welcome. We had the 6 course menu and by the end we were stuffed! I typically don’t enjoy sea food but I loved all the dishes they served, including the ones with seafood! If I’m ever in Copenhagen again I would love to come back and try whatever is on their menu.

Google
Insane 6 course menu. Flavour combinations are creative but nostalgic. A highlight for me was the rhubarb dessert. Super fresh and unexpected. I loved every bite. I actually loved every bite of every dish I had lol. Service was superb too, you have a lovely team at Marv & Ben. Overall wonderful experience and a lovely last night in Copenhagen.

Very cozy atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food. I highly recommend wine pairing, as they have amazing selection of wines offered. I have eaten there the best pork tenderloin ever. Really worth visiting!

Marv & Ben was highly recommended by my best friend, and I was lucky to secure a last-minute booking for Saturday dinner. The team was incredibly accommodating, making the experience seamless from start to finish. I had the 6-course menu with wine pairing, plus an extra truffle addition to my main course—everything was simply excellent. Arriving slightly early for my 5:30 booking, I had the pleasure of enjoying the entire restaurant to myself for a while. The modern and elegant interior, with its thoughtful color palette created a cozy yet refined atmosphere. My corner seat was perfect—not only for a delightful dining experience but also for observing the ambiance and other guests. I especially loved their Royal Copenhagen tableware, particularly the espresso set, which added a touch of Danish heritage to the experience. The wine pairings were intriguing and well-matched to the menu, making each course even more enjoyable. A special mention to the warm and professional staff who went the extra mile—they even helped me secure a booking at their sister restaurant, Anton, for Sunday lunch, making my Copenhagen weekend even more memorable.

Google
The restaurant is simply perfect. A special shout-out to the non-alcoholic pairing: a clever infusion of fresh juices and botanicals that perfectly complements every dish. The staff are attentive, genuinely welcoming, and eager to hear your feedback. Yes, it’s on the pricey side—but it’s absolutely worth it.

Google
Incredible value for this quality, especially for the 6 course. Hamachi was incredibly fresh, brined well, and rich enough to stand out over a great tart undertone. The leeks were creamy yet well balanced texture wise using walnuts and roe. Also one of the best breads I’ve ever had. Ambiance is warm and inviting with well spaced tables. Staff was large, but uncluttered especially given the size of the restaurant. 30 page wine list speaks for itself

Yelp
Vibes were lovely, chill ambiance with nicely designed interiors. Quite cozy actually. The food was enjoyable but not particularly memorable. The most memorable thing was the unlimited bread, which I ate a lot of. I think I could've just eaten bread and been satisfied. Not sure if this is possible, but given the price point I might recommend coming for bread and a drink rather than a full meal.

Yelp
We stopped in for dinner on Sunday night and had a pleasant experience. Although we arrived early and our table wasn't ready, the host kindly assured us he'd notify us as soon as it became available. True to his word, he let us know once the table was ready. After being seated, our waitress promptly greeted us and took our drink orders. The drinks were fantastic--my boyfriend enjoyed an espresso martini, while I opted for a non-alcoholic beverage that was incredibly refreshing. We then began our five-course meal, which we thoroughly enjoyed for the most part. The first course, hamachi paired with a tea broth, was probably our least favorite, though it was still quite good. As the courses continued, our standout favorite was their creative take on beef tartare. It was perfectly prepared and bursting with flavor. The rest of the dishes were enjoyable, though not particularly memorable. The hanger steak, while flavorful, was a bit tough, but it was accompanied by the best Brussels sprouts I've ever had in my life. Overall, I'd definitely return to explore more of their creations.

Yelp
Our last night in Copenhagen deserved a notable visit to Marv og Ben. My boyfriend made us reservations in advance and we were looking forward to this restaurant to be the highlight of the trip. We arrived and were warmly greeted by the host. You can see the kitchen right as you walk in. We were taken to the upstairs floor, people were both dressed in casual attire but others maybe dressed up a bit more - either way, it was a relaxed atmosphere. We went with the Fast Four each, my boyfriend opted to include the wine pairing. True Nordic gastronomy. All from top tier ingredients from local small producers, which is always the way to go. Our waiter, Sebastian, was a GEM. He elevated our dining experience with his sense of humor, knowledge, and passion for food and wine. Thank you, Sebastian! My favorites: Chicken - romain lettuce - sage The bread bun and butter Pea shooter I can't think of the name, I'm telling you, peas in Denmark are so delicious and crunchy Least favorite: The cheese course We closed down the restaurant so it was special evening with great conversation, lovely service, and full bellies.

Yelp
Our family ate at Marv & Ben for our last dinner in Copenhagen. They have had a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide for many years (per their door). And it is definitely deserved! Their bread is apparently a crowd pleaser (per their IG), and we were not different. We even asked for a refill which they do offer. We could have asked for a second refill but wanted to save our appetites for the tasting menu. Every course was delicious. We especially enjoyed the potato, langoustine, and desserts. I also got to try the dessert wine pairing that was made with blue grapes and it was amazing.

Yelp
Was super excited to end our Copenhagen journey with Marv & Ben. It didn't disappoint by any means but it didn't so much blow us away. The highlight is service. The staff are so friendly and accommodating, both in terms of seating, checking in, and the meal service. The space itself is fine, the upstairs can be quite nice if you're sitting next to a window, as we were. The course menu is pretty good. It certainly was not the best course menu we've had, even in the city itself, but it was interesting. Some of the dishes were more experimental than others, which we appreciated. It started off exceptionally well with the bread, which we asked for again. The other dishes were all pretty good, not rounds I would necessarily call necessary if visiting the area. The tartare was certainly a highlight for me. There was a lot of upselling of various add-ons, which was a bit unsettling to me throughout the meal. And there were no kitchen add ons without fee as there are at other places.

Yelp
Marv & Ben was recommended to us by a couple of locals, and their high Google review rating caught my eye. Overall it's a nice, casual-yet-upscale dining experience with high quality food. The dishes were very pleasant and the bone marrow bread is uniquely tasty. Nothing that was very wow like you'd see at Michelin starred places, but nice enough to have a good time. Not to mention the ambiance was cozy and the service was friendly and efficient. The decor inside is really cool too. Drinks were good, and I'm impressed with their absinthe drink as it's normally hard to get an absinthe drink to be so sweet and easy to drink. One confusing part was the waiter asked us after we chose the 4-course meal, if we wanted the "snacks" option. We thought he said "they are free snacks", but after the meal it turns out he had said "three snacks" (not free) and we misheard. They came out to be about $20 USD/each so it was a surprise on the check. But they were really good snacks (amuse bouche style), I just wish it was more clear what they were and how much they cost. We spent $200 for 2 people which included a non-alcoholic pairing, 2 cocktails, and the "snacks" option. A bit much but we did go for many of the "options". Tip - ask them what Marv and Ben actually means!

Yelp
Really amazing experience. One of my favorite coursed dinners ever. The service was phenomenal. The espresso martinis were memorable. The wine list recommendations were on point. It is a quaint little spot where they clearly prioritize service over everything else. They told us they are not going for a Michelin star (tho I believe they are Michelin reccomended) because that would require them to change specific things like price and table spacing which they do not want to do. Great last dinner in Copenhagen. If you're on the fence about if it's worth it go for it you would regret it.

Yelp
Absolutely an amazing experience. Got the 6 course experience. The scallops were my favorite. Combined with the tomato sauce, they were so refreshing. The potato dish was a little weird. The fried potatoes were crunchy but with the cream, they were a little greasy. Loved the monkfish too! The dessert was delicious and very light. Upstairs was cozy and cute! The service was amazing too!

Yelp
What a wonderful meal. Plating of each dish was original and engaging, each course was delicious, ingredients clearly high quality and service impeccable. They give you the option for reservations after 8 to stay at your table for 3 hours which allows for a leisurely meal without any pressure to turn the table. Every course was well timed and we never felt rushed. We booked this dinner as our "fancy" meal to celebrate our nephew's graduation from medical school in London at the end of 12 days in Oslo, Bergen and finally in Copenhagen and it was the perfect choice. A memorable evening and a memorable meal to celebrate his great achievements!

Yelp
One of the better fine dining restaurants in Denmark for a reason. We got the meal set of course, but I totally forgot how many courses there were. We also added the wine pairing, truffle, and caviar. I thought this place was pretty expensive even on the fine dining side of things, but it was still worth it. The food was 10/10 accommodating to any type of dietary restrictions as well as food continuity and wine pairings. I think it was also very diverse in what they served you and how they created such simple tastes with complex techniques is very notable. The service was 10/10. Although it was a fine dining restaurant, we were still able to have a conversation and joke around with multiple waiters/waitresses that explained our food perfectly. They answered our questions about the food and why it was made this way. 10/10 experience all around.

Yelp
This restaurant is a must try if you're in Copenhagen looking to fine dine! This restaurant is small but very cute with an aesthetic interior. We did the tasting menu and the wine pairing to go with it. The staff came out and carefully explained the wines that were paired with each dish. The pairings were incredible and the food was even better. My personal favorite was the Hamachi, but honestly everything tasted so flavorful. If I'm ever back in Copenhagen I would definitely go back to this restaurant. Clearly, a too tier Michelin restaurant. 10/10 would recommend. Looking into reservations ASAP.

Yelp
I had to write a review just for the gluten-free bread. I died. Had to request a second. Unbelievable. So good. I would return just for another little gf loaf please. I'll never forget this bread. The rest of dinner was great too. Staff were warm & attentive. Restaurant was packed but peaceful. I had a lovely time. Come here & get the GF bread, even if you can eat regular bread. It's very good.

Yelp
What a great dinner! Made a sick video on it - https://youtu.be/XHok0JgNHRA This is a local, intimate and inviting danish restaurant with a fun and creative tasting menu! Every dish had so many elements to it, which allowed the dishes to be complex with layers of flavours. Each dish was quite theatrical as well, which elevated our dinner. Everything seemed to come from local farms and producers and all organic. All the dishes had every element we love, it was buttery, there was crunch, there was delicious sauce and crunchy vegetables, we loved everything we ate. The staff/team was also amazing, so friendly, so warm and inviting! We'd definitely recommend coming here for really beautiful and lovely dinner!

Yelp
A long time since I had such exquisite food delicate well pair food wine. Staff knowledgeable about the food cordial friendly and not pricey at all for the ambient and the selection of 6 plates Kudos to the chef and everyone in the restaurant; enjoyed the time and experience!

Yelp
Service was amazing. No one walks past table without helping pick up or drop off. Was the best meal we had ever had. The bread is out of this world!

Yelp
The four of us were excited for our "fancy" dinner here at Marv og Ben. And boy was it a letdown. When we recapped the meal, we all agreed that the best part was the bread. This spot is clearly very popular so make sure you have reservations. We ordered the "Four Favorites," which was almost the same price as the much better and substantial dinner I had the next day at Host. Here were our four courses: -Halibut, tomatoes & pickled pine: Cold starter, not bad, but pretty bland -New danish potatoes, lovage & smoked mackerel: Served with a mousse like topping. My friends really were not feeling this -Chicken confit, pickled rhubarb & fermented garlic: I guess this was ok. -Roasted hazelnuts, sourdough & lemon herbs: This was the dessert and it was a weird, pasty texture. I didn't love it and my friends hated it. Not worth the price. Find another place to go.

Yelp
I ate here on vacation 4 months ago and I still think about it. The Six Favorites menu with wine pairings was a culinary experience that I will never forget.

Kate C.

Yelp
Wonderful experience, with pleasant surprises as the night went by. Super pleasant and knowledgeable staff made this a delightful experience beyond the very creative food. Interesting combinations of flavors and textures, colors all wonderfully paired with wine, which drew from the dominating flavor of the dish. The in between small "breaks" were a pleasant surprise too. Favorite dish plum dessert with out of the world vanilla ice cream in a "floral broth" paired wonderfully with Moscato D'Asti. Overall, our experience was a delightful combo of creativity and value for money.

Yelp
We originally wanted to try Noma and Geranium, but our lack of planning months ahead cancelled those plans, so we decided to try Marv & Ben, Such a wonderful experience! We chose the Almost Everything with wine pairing, we added champagne with snacks to start then a small cheese dish in between the 4th and 5th course or just before the last course. They change the menu depending on season I believe. From the moment we walked in we just knew the night would be awesome. Service, food, wine, friendliness, knowledge of the food and wine were great. I definitely recommend this place also the overall value is tremendous!

Ri R.

Yelp
A hidden gem of fine dining Copenhagen. The food was creative and tasty and the wine list is excellent. I highly recommend ordering the set menu and preparing for a long fulfilling meal consisting of several small plates. The staff were passionate about the food being served and very accommodating to certain dietary needs of the members in our group (created gluten free and vegetarian options). I wish I had taken more photos to attach of the food - I encourage locals and tourists to experience Marv og Ben.

Ivan M.

Yelp
There are only 11 Bib Gourmand restaurants in Copenhagen, so it is actually more rare than Michelin Star restaurants. For a good reason - one thing is making great food, another is to do it at affordable prices. Marv & Ben was spectacular food and service - and truly great value. With regard to the food, we had the six course menu, starting off with bread which was brushed with marrow in the middle of the baking. We bought several loaves (they actually sell it!). Everything tasted amazing, the dishes were melting on the tongue, beautifully presented. We came a a large party including kids and babies. The staff went out of their way to make things easy and comfortable for us, despite being in an upscale restaurant. They took our four year old son on a tour of the kitchen, just to entertain him. Service at this attention level in Copenhagen is very unique. Six courses this quality level at 600 DKK is a steal. Only thing to be aware of is that wines below 1000 DKK is somewhat limited here, so a recommendation is to stick to the wine menu, which is probably going to be a better experience - definitely better value. They just opened a sister restaurant, the Pescatarian, which must be the next one to try. Nevertheless, we will certainly be back here.

Yelp
We were really pleased by the poetic presentation of the appetizers, and the tasting menu is well balanced. Our waiter is not only such a pleasure to talk to, he is also so knowledgeable about the wines. We spent 4.5 hours there and it was a wonderful experience.

Yelp
It is recommended by Michelin bib gourmand and I am all in for good food. I did not call and make reservation as it is Tuesday and I thought there should not be too many people going early for dinner. ( I was wrong, Danish people eat dinner much earlier.). The neighborhood is not easy to navigate and usually people come by likely by food (or bike?) but not car. I drove. Luckily, the staff is very friendly and helpful. I went in asking for help on parking. She gave me a few pointers and I found the parking ticket machine at the end of the alley (do remember to place the ticket in the front window and put the parking clock at the right position) . She also said it is usually busy and she will look if there is a seat for me. There I was, sitting on the 2nd floor (or 1st floor, in Danish standard.) It is a cozy place. All staff are ready to assist and there is an atmosphere of casual and friendliness on top of their professionalism. The meal I ordered is 6 courses ( no wine pairing as I am not really a wine person), the first dish is cold dish and my guess the purpose is to fresh up your taste palette. It is some enjoyable sourness. The second dish goes with potatoes and more creaming context with crispy and chewing content. Then comes the fish with pumpkins nicely cooked with crunchy bites. Afterwards is a three formation of the same cheese expressing different flavors. Main course (or at least I thought it is), the tender veal and vegetable. Finally, the dessert surprises me. I did not expect much but the exquisite savor (lemon is one ingredient? I don't know.). The staff explains each dish with professionalism and ever patient answers. Sometimes, the chef shows up and do so personally. You can tell by their dress. Though the main chef humorously denies his duty; I do think their attentiveness is wonderful. It is probably interesting to see what customers they are serving and also taking a short break(?) from the every busy kitchen. All in all, I like this place, will visit next time in Copenhagen. Drive or not but definitely will reserve first. Ps: the house made bread is superb!

Yelp
After spending the past few months, literally eating my way through Copenhagen at what some people would consider the best restaurants in the world, I feel most compelled to write this particular review... Firstly, I look forward to Marv og Ben's first Michelin star (perhaps I can just add a little placeholder star right here * ... there you go!). I can't wait to celebrate that, hopefully with an excellent glass of Ruinart in hand from the excellent wine selection upstairs. Secondly, I cannot describe a more deserving crew to earn the utmost recognition for their fantastic food and wine, and most notably, their exceptional service that has me baffled every time (although, they may have just topped it last night)!! Thank you Johan, Mikkel, and Niklas for a most impressive show of excellence!
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
The staff, the food, and the wine were all top notch. From the moment the manager called to confirm my reservation to the moment we walked out we were treated with the utmost respect. Each dish on the tasting menu was meticulously crafted and delicious. The natural wine was refreshing and a great addition to our meal. It was a white that used green grapes. It was like a sophisticated vinho verde. The scallops and the lamb dish really stood out. It also was ironic that I ran into an old friend from high school at Marv & Ben. We played together at Beverly High in Beverly Massachusetts and we haven't seen each other in 20 years. Then we run into each other at Marv & Ben in Copenhagen. The world is still a Pangea.
google avatar

Angela M.

Yelp
Very much enjoyed a night at Marv & Ben. The service was spot on from start to finish. The food was a tour of locally fresh ingredients and while presented with flair was unpretentious. The ambiance was intimate in a small room within a larger building. But all of the space felt inviting. Food was of course impressive in its diversity of flavor and had a few key ingredients that made multiple appearances to tie the meal together. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Matt T.

Yelp
Service and food was amazing, if you're from the states, they will charge you an additional 10 percent which I've never seen before with a Visa, no Amex..I felt like this was to strictly take advantage of us, being from the US. We paid and left, if you go bring cash or pay extra for no reason.
google avatar

Debi T.

Yelp
By far, one of the best meals I've ever eaten! The place is cute. The staff is wonderful. And the food is to die for! Even the NA drinks are great & unique.

Emilie D.

Yelp
Absolutely sublime. Came here for dinner with my family for our first night in Copenhagen after not visiting the city for a couple years, and what a wonderful reintroduction to the city! We had the Four Favorites menu, and every dish was so delicate yet complex, and of course delicious. Their bread is possibly the best bread I've ever had in my life. I mean it. The ambience was perfect- not stuffy despite being a Michelin recommended restaurant, and so cozy with just the right amount of lighting. The service was impeccable. The food was tasty and thought provoking. If you are looking for a great culinary experience that also is quintessentially New Nordic, this is an excellent choice.

Yelp
Really great New Nordic experience, great atmosphere and service. I enjoyed the location and the friendly service. The food was an absolute delight and I loved everything.

Yelp
Michelin Bib Gourmand rated, but gets close to 1 star rating from me. The best meal of our trip to Copenhagen (we had dinner in 3 different Michelin rated restaurants), such creative and complex dishes, layers upon layers of flavours that work. Amazing that I can book a restaurant like this on the same morning using my iphone, and end up getting a private room for 8 with superb service. We had the 6 course tasting menu, plus a cheese course as well before dessert. We ordered a few beers to try and share, and they poured it into smaller glasses for each person at the table to try, what service! They even asked us what pace we'd like our dishes to be served at, which is the first time any multi-course serving restaurant ever asked us that. The bone marrow brushed bread was amazing, crispy crust and warm chewy centre. Our kids were starving for more and they offered to bring out extra loaves for us and they didn't even charge us for it! My favorite was the yakitori grilled lamb rump with grilled romaine lettuce brushed with fried spinach puree and dehyrated kale over green strawberries and fermented gooseberries. Such a simple looking dish, but so complex in flavours. Anyone who says the meat was too small or the lettuce was too simple in this dish, clearly didn't listen to what ingredients were used and didn't appreciate the amount of labour needed to create such a fantastic tasting dish. Beware they do use charcoal smoke liberally in some of their dishes (which I'm a huge fan of).

Yelp
This place blew my mind. The food is just so so (SO) good - from flavors, to textures, to surprises in the spoon, to sheer gorgeousness on the plate. Full of quality, subtlety, thought and soul. I had the Four Favorites menu, with wine pairings (all 4 wines excellent), plus the optional cheese dish between courses 3 and 4. All small plates, so you leave feeling fed, not bursting. The staff were clearly really into what the restaurant is about too, but not overly precious. Great vibe. Will stick in my mind along with a handful of meals in my life. No joke.

D C.

Yelp
Wonderful experience. Went with a group of 10; service was impeccable and fast paced (later became apparent they needed to move us thru to open the table for the next booking, but we did NOT feel rushed - it was actually just perfect). We got the set menu and every dish was wonderful (albeit small) in both flavor and presentation. If it fits in your budget, it's worth a stop.

Klaus O.

Yelp
This is a must try restaurant if you are visiting Copenhagen because you are a "foodie" and enjoy great wine. A top quality menu accompanied by a great wine list - executed flawlessly and with amazing professionalism and individual care from the staff. Located in a cozy neighborhood in a well restored old building in the center of Copenhagen. Amazing they have not received their first Michelin star as yet...
